[Q] Got a Moga Pocket/Pro and a Xperia Z1? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Heya!
This is a question going out to the guys and girls that have managed to get a hold on a Xperia Z1 . What I would like to know is if the Z1 can be comfortably used with a Moga gamepad. And I mean centered! As in the clamp pressing down on the lock and volume keys. There are opinions out there about using it with the Xperia Z. But the Z1 has slightly different shaped sides which could make it better or worse. I would also like to know if the phone can be placed in the clamp at an angle . So that the risk for accidental keypresses are minimized. Kinda hard to explain... :silly:.
Thanks!

Not centred. Buttons in the way on Z1. Z1 is two thirds to one side. The moga pro can hold it but its weird and not perfectly balanced.

yea the buttons are in the middle of the right side so I put my phone in the moga pro between the volume and camera button

[Q] Loose noise while tapping on back

Hey guys!
Just noticed on my Xperia Z, that if I tap with my finger on the upper third (on the back) it sounds like something is loose on the inside. Is that normal? What could it be? Antenna? Sensors?
Btw, it makes it only while tapping on it....not when I shake it like crazy.

On a different forum, a user confirmed that his Xperia Z makes the same noise. While other start to post that theirs doesn't. Could be something normal than. Anyone any idea what it could be? Anyone here that could try it on his Xperia Z?
Sounds like the auto focus to me. Nothing to worry about if so.

Cheers for that! Was kinda worried because wasn't looking forward to get it replaced already
I think its something to do with the nfc connectors, my blackberry z10 does the same noise when taped and when I take back cover off it stops and you can see the connectors of the nfc. And if u tap them it makes the same noise.

Found this video which might shed a light if the noise comes from the nfc connector or the camera

At 04:39 it shows it a bit closer the inside. Small but at least very sharp
Just tapped mine & nothing.
It's a common observation across all xperia z units that I've handled thus far so I don't see it to be of any cause of concern yea I've had other phones making rattling noises when being shaked/waved/tapped, my xperia x1 exhibited maracas-like abilities which were attributed to it's vibrator
You mean common as in some devices making that sound and other ones not? Just been to the T-mobile store and we tested it on a Xperia Z they had on display. It did the same sound when tapped on the back
Yes, it isn't a manufacturing defect. Whilst tapping on the front or back (especially towards the upper area of the phone), you'd hear a higher pitched 'tick' sound in addition to the tapping sound, but it's pretty subtle actually on all xperia zs that I've used this far..

Thanks for confirming that. Any chance that you know if it's coming from the camera or the NFC? Just being curious seen that everything works as it's supposed.
And no wonder they start to be sold out in different countries! You have them
You work for Sony or how come that you have used that many Xperia Z

[Q] what are the cons of Xperia Z?

I'm going to buy Xperia z in a few days - months, my question is: what have let you down in Xperia Z?
I already know about screen.
I kindly ask people which don't own this phone to not answer.
As I've seen many of the devs are going to buy or already have Xperia z, (im coming from Xperia Play and I've had great developers, most of them have moved to newer device, so I I'm going to do the same).
So to make it quick: what you don't like in your phone?

The phone is amazing I am happy with everything apart from the camera quality in low light situations, the camera is excellent in outdoor good light photos but poor in my opinion indoors. I would definitely recommend this phone hopefully a update might sort the camera out.
- the phone gets hot when you use it to much
- Screen on time is about 3.5-4.5h
- backside is glass
- the screen doesn't work when full of water
- It is big, sometimes doesn't reach the whole screen with the tumb without moving my hand position.
- camera doesn't always make good pictures.
But how hard you want to value which con is your opinion! IMHO i dislike the glass back... and i wish i had way better battery... but this are dreams.
Get it because it's an awesome phone. Ignore the claims that the screen isn't good. I mean, how retarded do you have to be to complain about the fact that the viewing angle is crap when you hold it at like 5 degree. The colours are way better than on Samsung Galaxy Phones.

.
I don't know, how many smartphones you had before, but I can assure you that it doesn't get hotter than the competition. Actually, a Galaxy S 2 gets hotter than the Xperia Z. And listing the glass-back as well as the size as a cons (or saying you dislike that) isn't really fair since those features were well known before you decided to buy it. And why would you like to use the screen under water?
In respect to the phone getting hot, I would say this is the same for most smartphones of this ilk. My Desire, Arc and XS, got very hot, but this is considered to be quite normal and nothing to worry about.
The XZ is a wonderful device. It's a noticeable upgrade from my XS and a fair bit bigger, but all in all no complaints.
The only negative points I can think of is that the camera ap starts up quite slow and that you can't change toggles in the notification bar by default.
Those are 2 things that should/could be solved really easy though.
Main things:
1) Camera app is sluggish, as already mentioned
2) Speaker on side - gets blocked by hand so you have to learn a new grip in order to not muffle your music/phone call
3) Power button on middle of right side - if you take a call when the phone's in a car dock doing satnav stuff, the phone (according to how it's set) can lock and turn the display off after the call so you have to try and press the button - which might mean taking the phone out of the dock while driving (or not!). I ended up installing an app that wakes up the phone when I wave near its proximity sensor.
noticed only this when shootin video in dark places and you turn on the light. the light is bad. miss has xperia t and light on her device is much more brighter. also in call volume isnt that great but im sure devs or sony will fix this up (lower volume because water proof cover). camera app is
indeed slow when u run it but i think its because its same app as it was on xperia x1 and didnt get much love
about camera learn basics bout takin pics and set camera to manual you will get great results
about speaker on side .. no problem for me cuz im left handed
about screen dont belive those reviews screen is really great and i mean great

I've went to the shop to check it out, most of these cons can be software-fixed.
But my biggest point in cons is
- speaker is crappy when playing music (no bass, I'm comming from xperia play which had 2 stereo speakers and they were great) not fixable
Viewing angles aren't that bad actually, it may be a little bit worse than top phones from other manufacturers but it's not that bad
I'd like to have an opinion from somebody about the battery...
Thanks to everyone for giving me some more advices for checking it out myself
The battery is amazing, playing game for 10 minutes, downloading apps and games from playstore, web browsing, and xda app.it last for 6 hours screen on time.could last for a day with 4 hours screen on.

Battery at stand by is excellent can go for 35hr with light use.
Battery at Screen time is good, I can go up to 4 hours.
My only con is screen in bright sun

Odp: [Q] what are the cons of Xperia Z?
So by saying it lasts 6 hours with screen on this means that it will go from 100% to 0% after 6 hours screen on, right? Well that's not a huge step but it's not bad, thanks

Lcd 'wave' when pressing the border

Anyone is experiencing this tipe of problem?
When I press (very softly) the border of my phone I see a liquid crystal wave like when you press with a finger on a computer monitor.
This problem is localized only in one spot: on the left side about two centimeters from the bottom.
I.e. Put your finger just above the navigation bar or slightly higher and press to the right on the glass stripe of the side. Of course this is difficult to see on white background so maybe try on a coloured background.
Can this be eligible for a repair under warranty or this is not a real problem?
Thanks for your feedback!

Not a real problem.

Ok thanks, just bad construction i like very much this phone, just wanted to be sure it isn't only my problem

So every computer monitor is badly constructed? Try dropping a computer monitor in the floor outside and see how well that works.
The Sony reportedly uses a softer glass so that it is more flexible and bends instead of simply breaking.
Have to say this is the most sturdy phone I've owned. Stop pressing the screen in lol.
also they dont use the technology the other LCD manufacturerers use thats the air gap between LCD and the glass , thats the reason u get precision

I think you can catch the difference between the use u have with a phone and the use you have with a computer monitor, right? Or you keep pressing on your monitor hoping this will evolve to touchscreen?

I don't pass my time pressing that part of the screen i just noticed that playing angry birds
my last question is: this "waves" damage the screen/lcd or whatever else or i just don't have to worry about them?

[Q] Xperia Z back plate making strange noise (right corner down, where the speaker)

Hello guys,
I just have the Z for a few days, and today I received my Roxfit bumper, when I was putting it on my Z I felt something strange, the phone make some strange noise when I put some pressure in the left corner down of the back plate while holding the phone in the opposite corner in the screen.
Someone with the same noise? Is this normal?
I'm just worried because some users have reported that the back plate of their Z are getting loose.
See video: (turn the volume up)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnY5qS9qVu8&feature=youtu.be
Did you drop your phone before?
I never did and I have strange noise when I tap top left of the back ( left side of the camera )
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
No I never dropped the phone.
I just hope water won't come in the phone... And if it gets worse I will send it to Sony.
Those kind of things are very strange.

Tried it on mine and I do not have that noise. Seems like something is definitely going on with Ur xperia z.
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
its really hard to tell if water is going to sink in or not.
get a replacement if you can.
Thank you guys..
I tried to put the phone in the water, and no problem. but I'll keep in mind, if it get worse I will send it back to Sony, but first i need to wait my 8X to come back from the reparation..

[Q] Silver ring around the lock button came off

hi everyone, I've had my xperia z1 around a month now and I'm loving it, but just today the silver ring around the lock button has fallen off. I'll probably get it reattached at a phone shop but I just want to know whether the water proofing is affected in its current state. Thanks

this JUST happened to me aswell. Does anyone know if it affects the waterproofness of the phone or is it no biggy?
Can you also post a pic of how does the button looks without the ring.
I'm guessing that the ring is just glued from factory. In that case it seems like it's esthetic. On the Xperia V behind the physical button is the actual button well isolated. So I don't think it the waterproof is gone. But check with Sony to be absolutely safe.
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app
I saw many users complaining about lose it, unbelievable. I will go to replace it a soon as you can and even if it's an esthetic thing I will not risk to put it under water. Just to be sure.
