Back to Nexus. - Nexus 4 General

Yeah got pretty sick of my Galaxy S4 and it's mf3 update. Specs really don't matter to me as long as everything is stable. The only thing I'll really miss is the ir blaster. I debated on going to the htc one all the way up to the xperia z1. I'm just gonna wait. Can anyone recommend me some good roms? Something stable with features like Halo and Focal and all the good stuff? I know there's a lot and I'm late, but I'm sure there a lot of others looking for the same answers since google sold out of nexus 4s and theres a lot of new users. I should have mine tomorrow morning.

Shame on you for thinking there is anything better than Nexus were like the spoiled children of Google. The best of everything without all the bulk and sulk bundle they merge into the OS

Welcome back and I recommend crDroid. It's smooth and stable and has Focal and Halo and a whole lot more. You can find it in the Nexus 4 Android Development forum.

Well, HTC devices are very high quality, after you get past the carrier blocks to root, unlock bootloader, s-off and flash a custom rom, (aosp preferably because its always newer than sense).
But I'd rather get the updates first at the cost of a camera not being as good and ease of rooting.

I agree. HTC is my favorite when it comes to hardware. I've had the N1 and a One X+ from them. This is going to be my first LG. I know when Google works with companies on their Nexus phones they're usually top notch. My last one was a Galaxy Nexus and I was amazed by the build and it felt perfect in the hands. I can't wait to see how the Nexus 5 is.

Yes, I think you are right, but as we commented in another thread the other day (the sony nexus concept phone) there are some brands who could never work with google to make THE NEXUS. They can make google editions, as samsung and htc did, but the nexus, in my opinion, has to be a cheaper phone, so sony and htc should be out of this game...

Sony loves competition. They're all about competition. They're so addicted to it that just to combat the Nexus 7 they made a Xperia tablet Z, kitchen edition. What the hell? links below

True but the fact that it boasts about waterproof, build quality and parts, gaming controller instigation for Ps3 and PS4 it's almost like they know how to build a sturdy tablet. Nexus 7 just has a popular dad and a reliable company which makes it popular.

I actually used it a lot. I would use it when I lost my remotes and got too lazy to look for them. At the sports bars to mess with my friends and some other random things. The funniest part of having it was when people would ask what app I used. Mainly iPhone users. Then i would have to explain it needs an ir blaster! Maybe the next iPhone will have them (not) lol

Try Vanir ROM. It's the smoothest and fastest I've used, it has some unique features and a CM10.2 base. Also has Pie, Halo, Focal and tons of USEFUL tweaks.

Is It Worth Investing In?

I dont have a tablet so thats why i was thinking i should order it. Thanks for your reply.
Definately worth it.. Only downside is after using one for a bit you'll think your GNex is too small!
Technology is never an investment. Two, three, six months later the latest hotness is two years old and worth a fraction of what you paid. Don't buy something as an investment and expecting to recover any expenses in the world of Technology.
As far as being worth the expense of being a useful gadget you will enjoy, yes it is very much worth it. If you spend any time browsing the web, youtube, games, or movies on your phone, using the Nexus 7 will make it a more enjoyable experience and not kill your phone in the process. Tablets are still limited to being media consumption devices, i.e. dont expect them to do everything a PC can, but they do have a viable need in the gap between a smart phone and a laptop or desktop.

Nexus 4 for HTC ONE!

Hi
I have a friend who got the new HTC One and he wants to trade it for my Nexus 4.
Would you people do it?
Is it worth it?
I kind of like it, and i want a new phone but i want people's opinion in the matter, what would you do?
PS: I have no complains with my Nex4 what so ever, has not fail me even once. Just that i got that offer pending.
Do it. If you decide you don't like it, you can sell it, buy a new n4, and still have money left over.

I would never trade my Nexus for a non-Nexus device. Pure Google experience is not something I would ever want to give up..

I'll chime in with those thinking you should do the switch for the HTC One - I have tried two of Samsung's TouchWiz devices between my Nexus devices, and while I never kept any of them for more than one month before switching to a newer Nexus, I haven't regretted trying out "the other side".
And it helps that the HTC One seems truly awesome, if given the offer I would probably accept a switch just to try it out.

Are you still planning to get your nexus 4?!And what you like the most?

The latest nexus is always a good choice because you get support from Google for a good while and they're easy to resell.
I've had mine for a few months now and when you compare the cost to hardware/software combo of the N4 to any other phone, the N4 wins hands down.
Sure if your budget was unlimited I'd probably go INA different direction (HTC One).
The good thing about the Nexus line is that they hold their value. If you chose to buy a used one now, you can probably sell it when the N5 comes out and not take a significant lose.
My only gripe with the N4 is the camera. My wife's S3 takes better pictures, otherwise its an awesome phone. What device will you be coming from?

I go through Android phones like you wouldn't believe, I've had over 10 in the past 3 years. The Nexus 4 is the best I've ever used and the phone I've stuck with longest. I got one at release and sold it a couple of months ago to try an Xperia Z, sold the XZ after a few weeks and went back to the N4, it's that good.
Ive also had way to many Android handset's over the past 2 years, and even an Iphone 5.
I also had an N4 on release day too and sold that for the iphone.
Sold the iphone to go back to the Nexus 4.:good:
Its by far the best and purest Android phone I have ever used.
I love it so much, I now have a Nexus S as my work phone and a Nexus 10 tablet.

But the HTC one is riddled with QC issues and doesn't really improve much over the last Gen of phones. The next Gen has snapdragon 800, 3000 mAh batteries and whatnot. Plus, the 800s are really close. Like the G2 is already here.
The One isn't that good IMHO. The camera is overhyped really and the number of defects people are reporting make this phone worth skipping.
To stay on track with your question the CM experience is something I don't think someone in their right mind would recomend. Hell it has a tendency to burn up some phones and need replaced.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I agree if your sole decision is CM. Then wait. Cm was better on my gs3 than on here. It's pretty buggy and as has been said there are many reports of people's phones bricking cause of cm. To the quality control issue... I have had none, this phone has been great in that regard... But maybe I'm just lucky . In all honesty, overall this is the best phone I've ever owned. I don't think you'd go wrong with this phone.

My $0.02:
For the short while I was able to use CM, I wasn't exactly blown away. It was exactly the same as my GS2, but with better specs. There were no extra features or anything. It looked nice with Black Infinitum, but again, not really different from my old phone. There were some bugs, so...
And you do have to watch out for the max freq lock, which will burn up your phone as it sits.
EDIT: However, CM Nemesis is coming soon. I would still wait for for a new device with better specs, but hey, this is a fairly new device.

I really haven't had any issues since 10.1
Sent from my One using XDA Premium HD app
I used it for a week while on vacation and while it was nice to see a less bloated One with all the additional customization .. there were several issues and features that made me go back.
The biggest was GPS lock - I could not get a steady lock and if I did the radius was quite large, throwing me all over the map.
The phone actually seemed less responsive overall - including a slight delay when turning on the phone.
Missed the htc car app - google car and the ones from the market are not the same
and the IR - now it has only come in handy once, when my remote died; however, the remote can be fun at the bar
The HTCOne is a unique phone, the button layout is strange and is my biggest headache. Contrary to most posts above I like the CM experience on it better then sense, but this is my first (and only ever!) sense phone. I much prefer the AOSP experience. CM is lacking in a few places but core functionality is there and works good enough for me for daily use, for the record I'm on 10.2 20130819
Truthfully though I think I would wait for a new nexus device. I love the feel of the One in my hand but it's nothing amazing hardware wise.

Also, does the wake still take like a second? That was also a problem with 10.1.

If OnePlus One is successful would you vote for a Nexus version?

Imagine the OnePlus Two, if the One has as good build quality as its specs, do you think the Nexus of 2015 should be produced by OnePlus? I definitely think so!

I would personally like Moto-Lenovo and or HTC to produce it apart from that LG is already doing a great job..

Nope because i definately want different companies to build low priced phones, maybe HTC for next nexus phone but not oneplus, atleast i'll get more options to buy a cell phone within the same price range although oneplus looks promising but still why not give htc another chance

I think HTC is the only one I would buy right now too. If next Nexus truly is LG I'm passing. IDC about specs. I'm tired of RMA and shotty build quality. I at least know HTC would never allow such poor quality be released with their logo on it.

HTC. A metal unibody ala Nexus One would rock bigtime.

Because that's talking about replacing the N5. This is about a future NEXUS release OnePlus.

Yes +1 on HTC lol
The nexus one is still my favorite nexus ! Best looking one as well even with the trackball lol , HTC rocks! Nexus one and my touch 4g aka Glacier were the phones I've kept the longest

I'd personally prefer Moto/Lenovo not making one since they're pretty much there with their own devices, and apparently will be moving forward as well. Also, doesn't sound like this Oneplus device is amazing, but this is just one guy. Plus, he's referring a lot of his complaints around the software which the Nexus would replace anyway. That being said, I don't think I have seen any negative reviews about phones like the Moto X or the Nexus 5 so only time will tell how well Oneplus does.

There's plenty negative reviews on our speaker quality. That's pretty much the major flaw of this phone. Besides that the Nexus 5 is pretty solid if you didn't get a bad model. This is my first Nexus device and I enjoy it fully. Hoping the OnePlus One lives up to the hype. Oppo is known for its quality so I have really high hopes on that aspect.

Speculating about whether some new OEM should get the next Nexus doesn't have anything to do with this phone.
