Xperia T stock ROM Camera issues JB 4.1.2 - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Dear all, I have recently bought 2 Xperia T's one for my wife and another for my mother (they both seem to have the same issue).
They are currently running the most recent stock ROM 4.1.2, not rooted just how it came from the box with one big update to 4.1.2.
I have read in many reviews that the camera was good, at least better than the one in Galaxy Note (N7000) or Galaxy S2, nevertheless when I compare the pictures, specially in lower light (just not the ideal, in doors with some light) scenarios they are all extremely blurred.
Am I doing something wrong? I use the 2 stage button to take the pictures, press it a little bit to get it to focus and then I press it a little more to take the picture.
When comparing the pictures in the same conditions, my Galaxy Note 1 does a better job, which is a pity as one of the selling points for my wife was the 13Mgpx camera.
If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Many thanks in advance for all your input.

Thanks for the reply. What should I put? Normal or something else?
Another thing I always use the 9Mgpx settings as it gives the 16:9 instead of 4:3 with 13Mgpx.

Just try with different settings. Its just like any camera, you need the correct setting for the picture you are taking. Superior auto sort of just takes a best guess and is good for quick snaps, but if you want a decent photo then you have to go through the settings and set it up as you want it.
There is a thread in the general section about how to take decent photos, just search for it.

@Johev if you find the thread about good camera settings please share it with me also, I googled but didn't find (found similar threads but for other phones )
thanks bye!

Hi @moly82, I have found the thread and it was somewhat useful.
Please see here
As for the summary of the advice is not to use the automatic settings, and to use normal settings with image stabilization ON (it is off be default) and sometimes you can play with ISO, etc.
I did try it and it seemed to improve the pictures so far, nevertheless have 2 complaints:
1) You need to know what you are doing, like for example my wife does not care what the settings are, just wants the pictures to look well. On my Galaxy Note 1 the N7000 or on the Galaxy S2 the pictures on default settings look better.
2) There is no way that I could find to have the default settings in the camera be Normal instead of the automatic [iCamera picture] ones. Which means that after you press the camera button to launch the camera application, you first need to change the settings and only than you can start taking pictures. This every time you launch the camera.
If anyone knows how to change the last point I would be grateful, as I am tiered of hearing that her old Xperia Ray took better pictures than the Xperia T.

[Q] Soft skin bug in Camera

Have you tried it guys? When capturing images from front camera, the viewer shows a sharpened view. But when captured, it becomes soft even the "soft skin" feature is disabled. When you try to capture it with soft skin on, it has no difference.

I have only just purchased my Z3 Compact and am experiencing the exact same problems with the front facing camera. Is this a defect with my handset? My wifes Z2 used to do the same and we returned it for a LG G3.
I really dont want to return this phone as otherwise it seems really good but if this is a 'normal' feature of the phone i cant believe reviews didnt pick up on this and i would have to return it for a refund. Every review that i have come across seems to suggest the camera is very good but i have seen this problem highlighted on another website too.
Is there a way to turn this post processing feature off?
Any help will be kindly appreciated. Thanks
This is definitely a software bug. The outcome is the same with "Soft Skin" option enabled and disabled.
Hopefully Sony Fixes it in the upcoming updates.
I've also noticed that its only occurring in photos. When you capture video it is sharp.
same here, we all should mail sony about that issue, otherwise they will ignore that.

*Potentially Working* Google Camera port

Edit: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962021903579482902
Remember to activate camera2 API before trying the app.
https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?act=search&source=pst&noform=1&username=B-S-G
It appears bsg have release an ARM32 apk of an older version of Google Camera HDR. Should work on the G5Plus. Can't access the link to download though.
anyone able to help?
Focus doesn't seem to work
HDR+ port by defcomk
Here is something that works for me:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4UT4dU4LpjJZFZnbGJ1TXVJN2c/view?usp=sharing
Make sure CAM2 API is enabled.
If you are on stock ROM it can be done by adding this line to build.prop:
Code:
persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1
If on a custom nougat ROM use this module: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4UT4dU4LpjJRWY1dzBBUTdHbm8
If on Oreo custom ROM, cam2 is enabled by default.
To use the camera it follow these steps:
1) Open the app, change video resolution of back camera to 4K (VERY IMPORTANT, else there will be FC)
2) On the camera menu you'll notice it's not focusing, so switch to video mode by swiping left on the screen.
3) In video mode tap on the subject you are shooting to focus on it. ( May need to be tapped more than once, Zooming in with two swipe finger gesture helps to get perfect focus)
4) After you are happy with the focus switch to photo mode by swiping right, this will maintain the focus that was set in video mode, if not repeat step 3.
5) Do NOT press shutter yet. Lock AE/AF before taking shot by long pressing on the finger to form a circle on the screen. (VERY IMPORTANT, else there will be FC)
6) After you have long pressed, take the photo. A circle will be shown which takes 30 shots in one second.
7) Shutter will be grayed out until the photo is processed which happens in the background, you can check progress by taping the thumbnail.
8) You can take as many shots you like with the present focus lock, also repeat the from step 3 for changing focus.
That's it
Thanks to @defcomg for the port and @dhk.-(DhKDc) for the magisk module

I created a 4dpa account by using this guide to solve the captcha and I managed to install the apk. I found out it wasn't working as well as defcomk's port cause it couldn't auto-focus lock the image. The only new thing I saw was it supported raw image capture
If any of you, for some reason want to create an account and try it for yourself, follow this guide to solve the captcha: https://doorsgeek.blogspot.com/2015/08/4pdaru-loginregister-captcha-tutorial.html

WOW!! I thought the Google camera HDR+ was all hype. I had HDR+ on my Nexus 5 but apparently that was the old version not using the new API. I thought that took pretty good pictures but this new one on this phone is incredible. Every single thing I tried, every camera mod I could find, on any ROM other than stock, every picture looked over softened and blurry, or super grainy and still kind of blurry. Now it looks better than stock, impressively so. The color balance, focus, and sharpness is top notch. Amazing what a change in software can do to a piece of hardware.
A quick tip for people, the camera opens up with the focus set at infinite so if you take a picture of something 5ft+ away, there's no need to swipe to the video to focus. Just open the camera, long press to hold focus, and snap the picture. The camera also works in 16:9 if that's your thing.
Edit: open camera is finicky for videos, giving me reboots. Use Footej camera for quick non HD photos and videos.
Edit2: After messing around with it a bit more, it's not the just HDR+ that makes the pictures so much better, it's the new camera API. Install and use it with any camera app supporting camera2 API and the photos are much better all around.
Thanks a ton for posting this, both you, and OP.

Nokia 7 Plus, A few Questions

Hi All,
Newbie here so please be gentle with me, love the look of this fourm so thought I would join in!
I purchased the Nokia 7 Plus here in the UK (TA-1055 model) about a week ago and I am very happy with it, I do have a few questions tho...
What does it mean by unlocking the bootloader? what does this do and what can you do once you have done this?
Is it really worth using the google camera app instead of the stock Nokia camera app?
Other tips on getting more battery life (not that I run out, just curious as to what settings you can change)
Also I am not getting the notification dots come up on any apps and the notification dot settings is set to on
Look forward to hearing your wise words!
I have the same model.
Unlocking bootloader is necessary to make root access workable and change ROMs etc. If you don't know what that means then don't bother with it
Yes it's really worth to use Google Camera app for normal photos (not videos). The difference is unbelievable. Use APK and settings from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76834155&postcount=267
Don't know how you can improve battery life (never bother with this, Android does this automatically) and get your notification dots working (notification dots need special permissions if you use another launcher).

Hi mate,
Thanks for your reply, dont think I will bother with the bootloader stuff as sounds too complicated for me lol.
Ok thats great will try that camera app! and how come dont use it for videos? I have just upgraded to this phone from a Moto G4+ and was seriously considering swapping this for a Moto G6 plus but really want to give this phone a chance! as i do like it!
And as for notification dots I managed to sort that in the special permissions settings by turning on launcher 3!
Video will not work well with Pixel camera because mainly of sound. The Nokia uses a special sound system with several mics called Ozo Sound. So it's best to use it with the Nokia camera itself.
Ok thanks, and is the sound quality noticeable when playing the video back on the phone or on a pc?
And not sure if this is something I can change in settings but the gcam won't zoom in when I want to take a photo is this right?
I think noticeable on both.
There is no good zoom in gcam because there is no Google phone camera with an optical zoom or second lens (so no support for second lens).

Gives you square pics, instagram style
On a serious note, this is a thing! Something new I've learnt - may be related to most up-to-date ROM version/ region.
Have you checked under camera settings ---> camera modes (under useful features) --> Edit modes?

I just wish someone can bring the Instagram mode from the S10 to the Note 9.
Rules for the best Instagram story are the same no matter what type of post you're trying to pull off. It's all about selection and execution. It would be best to have something that will resonate strongly with your audience and tug at their emotions. Your goal should be to persuade somebody to follow you on social media, buy something from your store or send you money. To have that "instant viral response," you need to be ready to share as soon as you snap a pic. An excellent tip would be an Instagram frame. You can read here how to make it https://macpaw.com/how-to/white-frame-instagram. In this way, you will make your posts more beautiful.

GCam for Galaxy Fold (Snapdragon)

I actually tryed to get a working GCam mod and the best actually is the newest version of arnovas GCam mod. The pictures are more clear and sharp with less noise than with the original Camera app.
But the most important important improvement for me is the much better nightmode.
But the problem is that the UI will only work when you start the app in closed mode and when you unfold the phone without restarting the app. If you start it in unfold mode the shutter will be in the middle of the screen.
You can find all infos on the development and the downloads on arnovas tread here:

@Arnova8G2 thanks for your great work. Maybe you can help us fixing the interface on the fold.

browsing around, there are so many versions, that its difficult to keep up.
im currently trying the GCam_7.2.010_Urnyx05-v2.2.apk (Urnyx05, 2020-01-31), because it seems to be the most generic, and most up to date one.
unfortunately, im not seeing any improvement. still seeing quite a bit of noise, and the stock galaxy camera is giving me brighter photos.

Have you managed to find anything better? I've tried about a dozen different gcam apps so far, not comprehensively--just installing, launching to see if all the buttons/menus are in the right place, and if they're not, uninstalling. So far I've found UltraCam v3.2.3 to have the most working features (except telephoto). I'm a former Pixel user so it kinda sucks that Samsung's native camera app seems to be worse across the board, except for maybe videos.
Havent broken when use port. Mode
Please share the ui screenshot of this gcam
I'd like to see the comparison vs LG Dual screen
