(Q) QX10 owners - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so I've had my Z1 for two days now along with the QX10 lens I got free part of my deal with CPW, I've took more photos with the lens attached than the main camera as it seems to be able to take near perfect photos everytime!
One question though is there a way to use the Z1's dedicated camera shutter button when the QX10 lens is attached? So far when pressing it, it just launches the default camera app, I tried turning off quick launch but it just vibrates when pressing the camera key and nothing else.
I know there is a dedicated shutter button on the lens but I find it a bit difficult to press, for some reason it tries to take photos in burst mode.
Maybe it's just me but if anyone else who has the lens can let me know it would be appreciated

Not at the moment, it's touchscreen or QX10 button, I'm not certain it's possible to remap it? But to be honest I don't have any problems with the way it's set up. And you'd have the same problem remapping it to another button. What you're looking for is a way to make it less sensitive. So you only take one pic at a time. But remember the more photos you take the more chance you have of getting the perfect shot

Thanks for the feedback, yes maybe that's what it is, it's a little sensitive, but I also think I'm getting confused with the two stage camera button on the Z1 and then when use the lens I'm thinking I need to press and hold when all I need to do is press!! I few more uses and I'll be fine, what's your thoughts on the lens?

I'm liking it so far, my only concern is the lack of flash? I'd like to have the option to use the phone flash when it's strapped on the back, as get a loss of quality in darker conditions. Only way round this I can think of is to install a flashlight app to switch it on. Not too bothered tho as was only messing about taking pics of the moon and bats in garden lol.

I really want to be able to get my QX10 photos to default to my SD card - at the moment the directory is on internal storage - anyone hears of a way let me know - I have my normal camera defaulted to SD card but the playmemories app just does not want to play ball yet.

I should have mentioned my setup apologies > they do save to the card I put into the camera - I was referring to the 2Mpixel versions sent via wifi to the phone - you cannot default that folder to the phones SD card it creates it on the internal memory

Quick question: is the lens still available, ordering mine from CPW on friday, i cannot get any links to the offer to activate...thinking it might just be me, staff in the shops here in essex didnt know it even existed and tried to push scummy iphones on me yuck.

Well I believe it's for the first 1,500 customs, you will be best of ringing the sales team up and checking stock first.
Yes sales staff will try and sell you something that's in stock, some will actual care and listen to what you want.

My Nexus 4 is an embarrassment

Apologies for the rant folks but I need to get this off my chest!
<rant>
Google needs to fix the Nexus 4 bugs fast
My state-of-the-art Nexus 4 phone has some major issues that aren't just frustrating - they're embarrassing. The camera will often stop working, especially when used in low light or after taking lots of pictures. I was out for a Christmas dinner with friends last night and we asked the waitress to take a picture of the group. I handed her my phone and ended up red-faced because the bloody camera wouldn't work. I also had the camera freeze with the flash still lit up on numerous occasions last night. How the hell did this get through testing? This isn't a one-off - it happens *every* time I try to take lots of pictures. I expect the camera to work.
Can you imagine the furore if the camera on an iPhone did this? People would be foaming at the mouth.
And the camera quality is pretty poor with many shots out of focus and terrible red-eye on others (with no red-eye reduction mode available) and none of the fancy new image filters can fix it. Yet I'm pretty sure ICS had a red-eye reduction filter.
And I also have a WiFi issue which means my connection speed will drop from 40MB to around 2MB for no reason. I have to toggle WiFi off/on to clear it. Rumour is that it's a problem with the WPA2 encryption used by some routers but I have yet to prove this myself and all our other devices are fine, my Nexus 7 included.
And this morning the phone rang and I couldn't answer the call because the buttons on the incoming call screen simply didn't work. It was charging at the time which I expect is the issue but even so...
In my humble opinion Google needs to get a 4.2.2 update out that addresses issues like this quickly because right now I am seriously considering selling this device and getting something else.
I am not your beta-tester Google. This just isn't good enough.
</rant>
I feel better now. Sorry if this thread sounds a little selfish but I expected so much more from a Nexus device. My 2011 Xperia arc S might of been a bit laggy but at least it was 100% reliable.
Well then return it.. or maybe learn how to use it first.
Personally I don't have any of these issues.

I no issues with my camera from Christmas dinner last night either, from 3 to 8:30pm EST I was snapping away.
No wifi issues here either.
Either yours is broken or some crap app is causing the issue.
Had the camera thing happen to me yesterday. Also have a screen bug that makes part of the screen disappear.
Buy I consider these android problem's which can be fixed. Not Nexus 4 problems.

OP should re-flash the stock ROM. If his issues continue, I'd RMA the device.

That's just the price. The actual specs could be considered state of the art.
I'm not sure why the 350 price tag seems to give people a sense of cheapness. This is what a high end phone should sell for. Instead companies **** all over the little people of the world by inflating the price by 300% and lots of times more. Google is merely just sticking it back to those companies and also marketing their ecosystem...

Google says(look at the specs of the phone)... BTW I use the crap out of my N4 camera and have not had these problems. Also I leave mine plugged inost of the day at work (I'm in a vehicle) and have never had an issue with answering. Id RMA it but it up to u if u wanna wait and see if 4.2.2 fixes these issues. I would have though 4.2.2 would be out by now but oh well.

The camera bug is well documented as are the WiFi problems. This is not just an issue with my device. I'm on stock 4.2.1 fwiw. Maybe a reflash is worth a try but I doubt it.

I've had some times where the call and lock screen are unresponsive. Usually there is a home and back button at the bottom for seemingly no reason and I have to hit ”back" to get back to the state where I can use the lock screen.. I'm guessing this is causing the call screen to lose interactivity sometimes as well. I'm suspecting issues related to lock screen widgets/extra functionality/Google Now as none of this used to happen on previous revisions, it seemed to start when that feature set was introduced. I also accidentally bring up the camera from the lock screen which gets annoying, but that's more my fault in the way I pick the phone up sometimes if I "pry" it up when it's sitting against something. Annoying, but whatever.
I have had no camera issues specially yet, though I haven't used it extensively only occasionally.

Was in Switzerland last week and the camera also decided to stop working, flash would stay on, screen wouldn't turn off and it was boiling.
Turned it on and off but during those 2 days happened more then once.
It was embarrassing because I was telling my family how good this phone was but they just laughed at me. Everyone one else has an iPhone even the kids (3 iPads, 4 iPhone, 2 imacs)
So difficult to get one so might sell mine. I want a phone that works and I am not spending my money to do beta tests.
Ps. This is my second one and I we are not even talking about the rattle and the buzzing

Personally, I find it to be *incredibly* annoying and pretty much ruins the experience of using this otherwise good phone. I have already been to the Sprint store to possibly exchange it, but their demo unit had the exact same problem (and the employee I was talking to had also noticed the problem). I have also ran "getevent -lt /dev/input/event6" from adb shell (/dev/input/event6 seems to be the raw output of the touchscreen, some people said it is event5 on theirs rather than event6). This shows you raw data every time you touch the screen. However I noticed that when my touches of the home button go undetected, nothing is read from /dev/input/event6...so I am afraid it may be a hardware problem. I have 11 more days before my 14 day Sprint satisfaction period ends, so I'm on the fence on whether or not I should return it and wait for a better phone, or exchange it and probably get another with the same problem, or...wait for HTC to try to fix it with software.
Some have said a recent update to the Taiwan version of the One solved the problem...:

Most likely what you are actually noticing is that not all presses are registered and you are rationalizing it by assuming that you just missed the target. In reality, there is a problem with the home/back buttons that HTC needs to fix, soon.

I prefer to tap with my fingertip and this is rarely detected by the home/back buttons, which is SOOOO annoying. I'm debating trying to swap it out for a new one. From what I can tell the problem seems to affect EVRYONE, although many people might not notice or be annoyed by it. So the question is, is it truly a pure software fault, or is it a hardware fault that software (ie, an OTA) can mask or at least partially correct.
That's my preference as well - it has been an adjustment and one that I'm not terribly pleased with. I'm surprised the issue didn't show up in pre-release testing but I have to imagine it's something that software can fix with a remap of the area the system recognizes as buttons.

It's really not an issue with the "area", as I can touch the dead center of the home button and it still won't work. Seems to me that it is either not sensitive enough, or some other problem.
Regardless, word is that an OTA fixed this problem on the Taiwan HTC One 2 days ago, so now I guess we just need to complain loud enough that HTC/Sprint pump out the fix to us ASAP before we all return our phones.
Mines like this as well, you can hit the back button dead on and no response. Hopefully they issue a fix somewhat quickly.

Having this problem as well. My device was built April 9th 2013. I can sit there and tap on the home button for 30 seconds or more in every way possible and have no registration of the contact.
This might just be wishful thinking but for some reason clicking the app drawer icon seems to fix the issue right away making me think this is software.
Other than this the build quality and everything else seems perfect.

HTC needs to admit they have a problem here and advise us whether we should be returning these or waiting for an OTA patch which will be coming VERY soon.
I saw some people talking about this and didn't know what they were referring to.. I got my phone on launch day and have no issues with it, that looks super annoying

[Q] Installing Apps in microSD card, when will this feature come?

When will we get this functionality? The S4 has this option on their app manager wherein they can transfer installed apps to their memory card without rooting their unit. I know for a fact that Sony released the Z1 months after the S4 why didn't they include this functionality on our phones considering it is "premium". I bought the this phone because I trust the brand and I have been loyal to them. I beleive not having this functionality is a big draw back given that we only have 16gb of internal memory to use for app, which is pretty low. I hope Sony can resolve this?

When I got my phones I thought it was kinda weird with how they link their directories. The storage/emulated/0 etc etc and apparently this is the reason APP2SD is not supported.
It's easy to get around this with apps like link2sd etc.. But for non-rooted I don't know. I just wished it was there officially.
I use Note 2 rooted and I can't move apps even with app2sd apps. (10gb on Note 2 is hardly enough)

10GB has never been enough, In my honest opinion I think 32GB should be the standard for mid range and hi end phones.

When I bought my Note 2, they claimed I would get 16gb. When I brought it home and used it, there's only 10gb. So:
1) where's that 6gb?
2)It's not the os. (I'm using Illusion ROM which uses 200+mb while stock needs 1gb)

But if you are root you have endless combination and ideas.
You can even use Xposed modules to tell your camera (stock/snap/better) to store your pict to sdcard.
As I said - I agree with that part - it would be great to have that without rooting but that's the way it is.
I always root my phones - to get adaway and remove that stupid baners from apps

My camera app (from Illusion ROM) has the feature to take pics to SD cards by default.

On Xperia Z1 too. We are talking about app data which can be moved to the SDcard instead of internal storage of the phone.
ex: game apk on the phone, game data on sd.
I use GL to SD root App. Needs a fix though. There's a post about it some where on here.

I haven't even noticed the option was missing. Even my old Arc on Gingerbread had the App to SD card option.

I ended up finding a test object in focus and forcing it to lock focus by long pressing and then aiming at the intended object.

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't gotten it to work either. I talked to a buddy and he was having issues as well.
My wife will be devistated...she loves selfies haha. I don't take many but it is a bummer that it's not working.

Yea, for the selective focus to not work at all on selfies is odd. I'd imagine we start seeing more people complain of the issue before too long.
I haven't tested the live focus mode much. I came back to Android from the 7 Plus and it took quite a few updates before portrait mode worked very well. I'd imagine Samsung can dial it in with some updates too.

Maybe your unit might be defective? I'm not seeing any problems using selective focus or live focus on my end.

Sounds like a pretty common defect then. I now have 2 friends with the same issue. Is there a trick to getting selective focus to work? Lighting maybe?
Edit:. Has to be the lighting...just gave it another shot with no issues.

Yeah, usually there's a warning message that pops up saying there's not enough light in the shot. I was messing around with live focus in my bedroom under some tv lighting only and saw the alert. Makes sense.
Any updates to this? Anyone do more research? I have the same with the front camera when I gave more than 1 person in the photo. It will not focus and selective focus doesn't work either.

My old Huewei Honor 8 camera was simple to use. I could even easily blur the background after image was taken.
I'm also finding the same issues as you guys said with the note 8 camera.

Any solutions to this problem?
I haven't been able to use selective focus on the front camera since I bought the phone. It keeps saying there is no subject detected. Please help.
I'll be joining the list of "front camera bug on selective focus mode". Unable to use it since I bought the phone too. I'm using the latest build for my country (N950FXXU2BQKG)

Note 9 Camera lag/freezing

I have been having issues with the camera freezing/lagging on my note 9. It happens often, for example I open to take a photo and on the screen it freezes and I have to wait sometimes force close to get it to work, it happens while recording video too. I haven't seen anything online about this yet so maybe just my device.
Anyone, have this issue?
Others found by going to another launcher such as Nova their frame drops and freezing stopped.

My husband has been having the same issue. We tried clearing the camera cache and rebooting and it stopped for a while, but resurfaced. 512gb us T-Mobile blue. No sd card installed.
Are you saying using Nova launcher helps? Or it's causing issues? I'm not sure why that would cause the issue. I got a replacement from Verizon and it was doing it on the new one before I even downloaded any apps. Seems to be a issue that no one else has noticed or maybe I got the only 2 phones with the issue.
On a side note, where did all the other camera modes disappear to? Gif mode, etc... On note 8 you could swipe left for many more modes.

They said using another launcher such as Nova stopped their frame drops, hang ups. They were thinking it had something to do with Samsung's skin. To them once they used another launcher all their issues with it were gone. May not help your issue but worth the try..

Are your pic and video saving to the SD card? If so, it might be your SD card. Try internal memory to see if it makes a difference.

I use Nova and I had the camera temporarily freeze a couple of times today. The issue is with the camera software most likely. No SD card
I can confirm no sd card in ours either and also on Nova.

We just encountered a "Warning: Camera failed" also.... Just cleared the camera app data/cache and cleared the system cache. We'll see if it happens again.

Its there. You need to go into settings and scroll down to Hold Camera Button to and click it. Has options to Take picture, Take burst shot or create GIF

Sorry to hear this. That's not good. Hopefully if this is widespread Samsung can do a software update that will fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am running an SD card though I have already tried it without. I have also got a replacement phone and it does it on that too. Sometimes it just freezes without taking a photo just on the screen as the viewfinder. Also, the camera freezes within apps most notably for me in WhatsApp and the front flash goes off but the picture is still dark. So far this phone is definitely sub par out the gate.
Same experience here. One working with no issues, the other without an sd card with freezing/camera failures.
I have the same issue with Camera lag or freezing. It doesn't always happen, but it happens enough to be annoying. I am on Verizon with 128gb. So not sure what's the problem here.. Is this a Camera issue? Since not a lot of people are reporting the issue it seems..
I was taking pictures earlier and noticed this too.
It lagged that the flash and shutter was out of sync. Got a nice white out picture.
Verizon, 512gb. Save to internal memory.

Same thing was happening to me. I just replaced it with a 128gb one from verizon today. SO far it seems a lot better and smoother. Not sure if it is the 512gb ones that are the issue or just a random thing with some
Mine freezes up before even recording/taking photos. I'm on smart launcher.
