For both locked and unlocked bootloaders!
@shem2409 created a nice youtube video guide to assist you in your work, be sure to check this post for it! Thanks m8!
The C6602 ROM is based on the FTF provided by @macallen in this thread. Thanks dude
The C6603 ROM is based on the FTF provided by @NetSkill in this thread. Thanks dude
In the following guide I suggest you use an external SDCard but that's just good practice, you can use your internal storage or even an USB OTG storage device in TWRP if you like to install, that's no problem!... If you are modding and the likes, best is to have an external sdcard, just for safeties sake.
C6602: How to update to 10.3.1.A.2.67:
For C6602: Download C6602.flashable.67.zip (Bittorrent: 696MB) and C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf (15MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'C6602.flashable.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Put 'C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'C6602.flashable.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf';
Reboot to system without clearing (dalvik-/)cache.
C6603 & C6606: How to update to 10.3.1.A.2.67:
For C6603 & C6606: Download C6603.flashable.67.zip (Bittorrent: 749MB) and C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf (15MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'C6603.flashable.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Put 'C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'C6603.flashable.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf';
Reboot to system without clearing (dalvik-/)cache.
The first boot will be considerably slower and after a long wait at the boot animation you will see Android optimizing the apps on your phone.
C6603 USERS WHO INSTALLED THE C6602 ROM ONLY:
Although much is the same, it's best to follow the guide as described above, just to be sure your phone gets set back to being what it really was: a C6603
NOTE: You will eventually/inevitably get the triangle screen again after doing this update (typically after you shut down your phone to reboot it without an actual reboot command), you will have to sit this one out it seems, it keeps coming back until it's done...
DO NOT INTERRUPT IT, LET IT RUN AND DO IT'S THING! you have been warned!
NEW: DE-ODEX your ROM!
Download deodex.67.zip (Bittorrent: 393MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'deodex.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'deodex.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu;
Clear dalvik-cache ONLY;
Reboot to system.
The first boot after following this guide will take considerably longer again and after a long wait at the boot animation you will see Android optimizing the apps on your phone.
I have done this myself, using this method and I have not found any problem yet, again! :fingers-crossed:
Enjoy! :laugh:
Known XZDualRecovery Issues:
Busybox Updater/Installer: If you have XZDualRecovery installed, un-install any Busybox updating app/tool as most if not all of them will install a version of busybox which does not support the lzma compression applets XZDualRecovery depends on. The version installed together with XZDualRecovery is very stable and I have yet to hear anyone complain about it's stability.
How to report errors:
Please, before shouting out "It doesn't work!!1!" or "I lost root!" or even "My phone reboots when remounting /system RW!!" try the following:
Restore a /system ONLY using any means you are familiar with so you can try again.
Root it using [Z][ROOT] DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
Install XZDualRecovery and then try to update again using TWRP. This time you can skip the FTF as it has already done it's job.
If it still fails something from there on: LOGS!!.
NOTE: The important ones can be found in /cache/recovery and in /tmp/XZDualRecovery, pack them up and send them to me.
Thank you

Thanks Mate -cheers-

works like a charm rooted with Dual Recovery
cheers dude ^^

They ARE for the C6602 and no, there isn't any C6603 version yet. That's why i instruct you to keep the 244 baseband, to keep LTE.
I have a C6603 as well (see sig), and the image from the OP is made with that. You see it identify itself as a C6602, but yet, i still have LTE

That's simple: turn off the phone, have flashtool ready to flash (where it instructs to connect the USB lead), then while holding the VOL-DOWN button, connect the USB lead. :good:

Thanks again. Works fine on my C6603, don't need LTE so i never tried it.

battery bug is still there, installed it on my C6603 and soon after the root did a test restart at 32% battery and up to 62%.
I only root and without Recovery think this is hardware problem because they are already Three ROM 4.2.2 and still persists Bug Battery.
Sorry my bad English.

No, from what i have understood, it's not a hardware problem but a library issue in vanilla android 4.2.2 ... we'll just have to wait for Sony to permanently fix this.

Camera Not working [STOCK][C690X][4.4] Update to 14.3.A.0.681 [Root & XZDR][LB/UB]
I would like to add to the thread mentioned below that I also have the camera not working.
Sony Xperia Z1 > Xperia Z1 Android Development > [STOCK][C690X][4.4] Update to 14.3.A.0.681 [Root & XZDR][LB/UB]
Device: Xperia Z1, 6903.
BootLoader unlocked
Previous Rom: [ROM] iHackers v3.0 [Xperia Z1] [ 1 2 3 ... Last ]
Previously the camera worked fine.
Admin: I've been flashing Roms since my Xperia X10, I am an experienced IT Guy with 15 years linux experience. I just never posted before because I always found my answers but this time I think I need to notify user: [NUT] that there are more users with this problem, reported on page 31.
Please allow me to post directly to the thread in question.
Thank you.
i solved downgrading to 136 then flashed stock 681 official
After i installed CWM6 recovery and flashed SU Package from chainfire website.
But battery draining too fast
Did you try doing a factory reset?

Do you know this solution of yours works or do you enjoy getting people to factory reset their phone? Technically, there is no reason why that should make any difference. Please explain.
I have read that others who have done a factory reset, had their problems resolved.
No need to be so hostile, I was just trying to help. Won't help you in the future.

Not being hostile at all mate. It's just that your solution doesn't make any sense, would have brought me grief if I followed your advice, and no I haven't read anywhere of anyone reseting to factory having solved this particular problem.
So a technical explanation would have made a difference!
same thing, after flashing 14.3.A0.681 my phone camera is not working (Z1 /unlock bootloader/rooted /before flashing this rom /my device was working perfectly)....
waiting for solution. start to flashing old rom 1136
I ended up flashing a stock kit Kat ftf. No root but at least I have a working phone. With camera and no glitches. I will look into rooting and installing recovery next time I get a chance.

Actually a Factory Reset is recommended every time after an Upgrade to clean up the installation. @hush66 is right, It was said 100 times here on XDA and before wipe everything you should had do a Factory Reset. Maybe it will not fix your problem but it does for some Battery Drain and some other stuff. Never reject a tip, but try by your self if you don't have nothing to lose.

please read the post again, it does not say that, it says to flash a FTF again
At the very least I so hope you have learned to read before you start going flashing or unlocking your phone.
You have unlocked your bootloader so its very easy
Flash a 757 FTF
Flash XZDR dual recovery kernel (From [NUT]s download page here http://nut.xperia-files.com/) (Extract the boot.img, flash it with fastboot flash boot boot.img, then enter recovery and flash the whole .zip)
Then flash supers.zip from chainfire http://download.chainfire.eu/420/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99.zip
then enter recovery (Philz and goto philz settings and enable verify root on exit, then reboot and conform to fix root)

[GUIDE][HOW-TO][T/TX/V]Root Guide On Android 4.3 For Locked Bootloaders

IMPORTANT:
This method is now obsolete and not needed, we are able to root directly onto 4.3 now thanks to geohot, please see towelroot thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
OLD METHOD:
I see many threads about rooting Android 4.3, especially with locked bootloaders, along with many users getting confused about it so decided to make this guide on how to get root on your Android 4.3 device
Unfortunately there is no method to root directly on the Xperia T/TL/TX/V with Android 4.3, we must downgrade first!
Step 1, Getting flashtool installed:
You need to download flashtool and install the latest drivers, this can all be found here and here
Step 2, Getting your device running Android 4.1.2 which is rootable!:
You need to download a 4.1.2 FTF file, I recommend using this one if you are an Xperia T user,
Use this one if you are an Xperia V user.
Use this one if you are an Xperia TX user
although any will do as long as has a build number earlier than 9.1.A.1.141
Next what you need to do is open up flashtool which you installed in Step 1. Next click on the lightning bolt button which is the flash button, flashmode should be selected by default, click OK!
Now you are in the firmware selection area, navigate to where you downloaded the FTF file using the browse button in the top right.
Select the correct firmware, then click OK!
It'll process a bit, then will tell you to connect your device, firstly put your cable into the computer/laptop first, then hold down the volume down button on your device and connect the micro USB part to the device.
If all goes well it will start flashing, finish and tell you to restart the phone, the process could easily take 15 minutes, so be patient.
Step 3, Lets root the device:
Try rooting with the root option within FlashTool
Should that not work try this:
You want to download bin4rys rooting toolkit, which is found here and here
This part you will be walked through in the command prompt of the toolkit, it will tell you what to do and when, it is very simple!
Step 4, Now we're rooted, we want a recovery:
Now we need to get CWM recovery for locked bootloaders installed!
Download CWM installer here
Next extract the folder to somewhere on your computer, connect your phone to the computer, remember to allow unknown sources to be installed and to allow usb debugging, these can be found in 'security' and 'developer options' respectively.
Once done, double click on 'install.bat' and let the installer do it's magic.
If you have issues with this step, take a look at the 'Unable to enter recovery' section in the CWM for locked bootloaders thread here
Step 5, Download a rooted 4.3 update:
If you are an Xperia T user download from here
If you are an Xperia V user download from here
If you are an Xperia TX user download from here
Now transfer the package to the SD card on your device.
Next you want to power off your device, once that is done power back on, when you hit the first vibrate you should see a blue led, start repeatedly pressing the volume up button, the led should turn green and you will enter into CWM recovery.
RECOMMENDED: Now you are in recovery you should do a complete wipe data/factory reset, now this can be skipped but if it leads to errors and problems then you may need to go back to step 1, you have been warned!
Head to install zip from SD card and locate to where you downloaded the file, then flash the file!
Step 6, Enjoy:
You should now be all up to date with Android 4.3 and have root access, feel free to comment and ask questions in the thread if you are having problems or things didn't work as they should.
You also now should have PhilZ Touch Recovery installed which will allow you to install mods, make backups etc. To enter it is the exact same procedure as for CWM earlier on!

Fair enough, if it works for some people they can go this method. OTA updates with root isn't fool proof though so some users may find they loose it.
This is also more for people who have already OTA updated and don't have root

:thumbup::thumbup:
Hi, Sijav sir,
I used your prerooted C5503 4.3 version on my C5502. Worked well. Really thanks for your hard work.
You are simply great that you made it for 4.4 also.
I have few questions. Pl answer.
1. There is one more prerooted 4.4 available in forum. But install procedure is different. I am confused now. Pl clear my doubt.
2. Is there any problem to install C5503 on C5502. (I am now on C5503 4.4 already. No problem). But fear in mind.
3. Somewhere on Google, I read anyone can enable LTE by change in build.prop. Is it true? LTE is software base or hardware base?. (In India, presently no 4G, but in near future it will be available)
Advance Thanks for your patience for my questions.

Hi, Sijav sir,
I used your prerooted C5503 4.3 version on my C5502. Worked well. Really thanks for your hard work.
You are simply great that you made it for 4.4 also.
I have few questions. Pl answer.

1. about the procedures: all procedure is the same it's just my rom is some kind of backup of the current state of my own system folder compressed on tar which saves the permission on every file on itself, which will flash on your phone, as I didn't had any meta-info and somehow I couldn't get one by code and I'm too lazy to build it I did this just to be sure that all permission in your system folder are set to right amount, however using an old meta-info (which currently most dev do) is somehow workable and rom will boot but some problems and malfunctioning may occur later. So I just played it safe.
2. Network vendors (BT and WIFI) are different in C5502 and C5503, I have saw many C5502 broken BT and WiFi, they had also flashed C5503 on C5502!
Flashing another phones rom on yours will result malfunctioning or bricking your phone! So I suggest under any circumstances please Flash a ROM specifically build for your phone just to be safe! (better safe than sorry right? )
3. LTE is hardware base! you can disable it in build.prop, you can enable it too. but if your hardware does not supported then it's nonsense!
OOUPS I flashed the the ROM with PHILZ TOUCH 6 - I did not know that it PHILZ until I saw it on screen at the end....what is the risk and the consequences?
By vanilla recovery...

5. Run NDR Utils app and select vanilla recovery (IMPORTANT)
5. Flash my rooted rom zip file and wifi_mac_fix.zip with recoery (DO NOT FLASH THIS WITH PHILZ TOUCH RECOVERY!!)
You mean CWM Recovery, yes?
(And for anyone who can't boot into CWM, go install ROM Manager from Play Store and click Reboot into Recovery once you've set up CWM in the app)

No consequences,
nothing will flashed or else if flashed without problems then you're good to go. it's either capable of flash it or not!

yes CWM recovery, or even TWRP if you have it.
when you install dual recovery you can even change the philz name to cwm and vice versa. or use NDRUtil to go to cwm.
it's easy

Thank for info.
I rooted and installed dual recovery from desktop.
But now I can not boot into recovery by hardware key or NDRUtil also.
I have installed Xperia Xposed module and then I can boot into recovery (But in Philz. by default)
But is it safe?? I have to install prerooted rom.
In case any problem, how to boot into recovery without hardware key.

Strange, if you have installed adb by pressing up you will go to philz touch or pressing down button you will go to twrp.
you might not installed it correctly!
anyways if you have adb you can pass this command > adb reboot recovery, this will let you to go to recovery but ONLY to philz touch.

yeah that old philz recovery might works but the newer by NUT have lots and lots of bugs in flashing anything with metadata and some other binary including the CM! which won't flash at all!!
Mate. Can you guide me?
I'm currently on CM11 and I want to flash and see if stock ROM works better for me than CM11, for testing sake and also 'cuz I miss the camera terribly.
Should I follow the instructions in the OP, or is there another long method? I don't want to brick my phone so a li'l guidance could do me.
Thanks en avance.

Yup...downgrade to 4.2.2, root and also install recovery.Both 4.6.6 and 4.5.23...i'm even go to ur Miui forum to redownload the file but still same get bootloop wont boot...4.5.23 english and multi language also tried...if I select full wipe (in aroma),install till 40% than black out...(bootloop).The new 4.6.6, successfull install (if I select full wipe in aroma option, it happen same as 4.5.23)but the rom can't get root permission...showing system ui fc and the network operators showing wrong networking...if I reselect the network operators it show correct operators but the name just won't show the correct one that I had selected...
Ps:both before installing the rom i'm already full wipe the phone by myself coz if I select full wipe in aroma option it will cause bootloop...

I used 4.2.2 customised INDIA as base rom. I installed root then recovery. I flashed your 4.6.6 MIUI file. Did clean wipe in Aroma installer also. After the process ended the phone booted with sony logo then MIUI logo and then restarted again(bootloop)

hi, @Joncat24 this is really strange! both things, network wrong? I'm not sure! everything is working here, system ui fc? you don't have root access? can you give me logcat? else I can't do anything because everything is working with me and I'm not sure about your problems so please give me logcat.
System will format on aroma before installing so you no need to do that!
alright here's my theory: I'm assuming that you all have tried with philz touch recovery, maybe the philz touch recovery is not good! (as you can't flash latest cm with it!!) please use ClockWorkMod (the vanilla recovery) from NDR Utils app and give me the results. it should work after that!
oh and forget everything about 4.2.2! I can't get access to my old 4.2.2 ftf file anymore! sorry I can't upload anything... and about uploading in google drive, well google drive has banned my whole account many times because many users have downloaded huge files. So I'm trying not to put anything on google drive. also my upload speed is less than 14 kbps so I'm not just posting things on net without testing it with every aspect myself! (As I hate to spend more than 1 day to upload it again) so even if you tell me that my build is broken even if I fixed it it makes me 2 days in avarage to upload both eng and multi rom into servers.

No problem. Going to try this with Vanilla CWM. If any one wants Google Drive FTF links I shall upload it for them.
Will post the result in three hours thanks sijav.
BTW which version of recovery? 6.0.4.5 right?
Result.
Result :
Flashed fresh 4.2.2 Customized India FTF. Installed SuperSU ROOT. Flashed XZDUALRECOVERY. Selected 6.0.48 CWM-Based recovery as told.
Selected the zip to be flashed. Selected Full Wipe in AROMA!
Installation started > Stopped at 1% > Device restarted and stopped at SONY LOGO.
I am on locked boot loader and I think that's what the problem is!
- NEW
Used PhilzTouch Recovery > INSTALL Complete.
I clean wiped then clicked on INSTALL NEW ROM, which again clean data, cache. Seems to work with one bug "ALL CHECK POINTS REACHED". It is not going from my Notifications menu!

EXACT same results. I fear though that if i unlock my bootloader and MIUI fails again, PCC won't be able to rescue me with firmware repair! :crying:
C5502 with root (TowelRoot method), XZdualRecovery, stock 4.3 (waiting to go back down to 4.2.2 INDIA release again). Any hints on how to fix this? Am really interested in trying MIUI, but if Xperia ZL roms work perfectly, then i'd like to try one of those...if there's one as interesting as MIUI

If possible try installing twice! mine worked at second instance!

[SOLVED] Generic .108 FTF... Which one??? Please help a noob out

Hi all,
I havnt flashed a device since the first android ROMS for the HTC HD2, so that gives you an idea of how rusty I am, so please bare with me. I've been reading and searching for hours and my eyes feel like they are bleeding so I'm typing this plea for help whle I atill have some vision.
I ve got a c6903 z1 running the latest 5.1.1 update. stock kernel etc, locked bootloader.
I was on 5.02 rooted and now want to root 5.1.1
After lots of reading I realise that I need to downgrade to 4.4.4 kitkat, then root then install dual recovery, then installl a pre rooted 5.1.1... FIRSTLY - Does this sound right? are these the right steps to root 5.1.1?
Secondly, It took me a while finding Generic .108 ftf files but now I've found a few (through the ftf 'mega thread') and dont know which one I need... the options are:
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_1276-7939_R3C Generic MY.ftf 1060174KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Customized KR.ftf 948416KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Customized UK.ftf 1034553KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Generic-MEA_1277-2880_R5C.ftf 1010011KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Generic FR 1276-5833_R5C.ftf 1019704KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Generic IT 1276-0557.ftf 1050780KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Generic RU 1276-7743.ftf 973615KB
C6903_14.4.A.0.108_Generic_SG_1276-7937_R3C.ftf 1048335KB
Will any of these work considering I'm not staying on 4.4.4?
I assumed I could safely use the 'UK' file from the above list but then got paranoid I might brick my z1 by flashing a Ukranian ROM lol.
I've now got 'the fear' and am afraid I might **** this whole process up and brick my device.
which reminds me, one last thing... Ive downloaded the official SONY Flashtool (ver. 0.9.19.8).. is this the right tool for the job? I seem to remember reading that the official flashtool only works on unlocked bootloaders, but I've read so much im confused as hell at this point.
Sorry for the long post,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Correct. There is no direct root for 5.1.1 currently. You could also downgrade to 5.0.2 instead, it doesn't really make a difference between that and 4.4.
It doesn't really matter what your interim ROM is as long as you do a clean flash when updating to 5.1.1 again.
Flashtool is the correct tool to be using. It has a utility called XperiFirm built it. You can use that to get any FTF that's publically available so that you don't have to depend on FTF threads.
The only way to have rooted 5.1.1 is with a pre-rooted zip, so you'll have to use PRFCreator to create that zip if there isn't one already posted for the specific variant you want to use.

Hey there! Welcome to the Z1 community
All you have to do is make sure you flash the ftf specific to your device. As long as it says C6903 in the ftf, you're good to go. all these locations are just country specific customizations with some apps and stuff. I'd say you can just flash the SG ftf for a mostly bloat free system.
In addition, you can't use the SONY flashtool (EMMA) unless you have an unlocked bootloader. I'd recommend you use flashtool (just google it) which lets you flash on both lock and unlocked bootloaders. Once you flash KK, use one of the rooting programs (Turn on USB debugging, and connect it to your computer, run the application and go through the steps. Let me know if you need help on what method of root to use.)
Once rooted, you should have a recovery, which should let you flash a prerooted zip easily.
If you have an unlocked bootloader, just flash any custom kernel through fastboot, boot into its recovery By pressing vol up or down at boot logo) and flash the zip.
Final tip is, make sure you have the prerooted zip on your sd card before you flash a custom kernel, as not all can mount to the PC from the reovery and flashing an incompatible kernel (such as a 4.4.4 kernel on a 5.0 rom) won't let you boot into the ROM.
Feel free to ask if you have any doubts, come across any issues, or need any help at all.
SOURCE: I flashed a customized TW ftf on a Singapore bought C6902 which I'm using in India with no issues at all.

Thanks for the quick reply mate. Sounds good, I might just go to 5.02 then as rooting that was fairly painless.
Ive already found a pre-rooted zip for stock 5.1.1 so I think I'm good to go on that one. Almost ready to dive in... thanks for clearing that up.

Ive got a locked bootloader so I'll check out that unnoficial flashtool, thanks.
Now here is where my confusion and lack of knowledge becomes another problem... You say that after rooting kitkat (using something like 'easy root tool'?) I "should have a recovery, which should let you flash a prerooted zip easily.".......
I was under the impression that after rooting kitkat I would have to install
'XZ Dual Recovery' to let me flash the pre-root zip.
Do I not have to install XZ dual recovery?
Thanks again for all your help... just trying to clear up the details before I start the whole process.
Cheers mate.

Some root kits will install a custom recovery for you, but it's so easy to just install XZDR, that's what I always do. XZDR will actually give you multiple recoveries to choose from (but TWRP is generally considered the best), but it also has some nice addition features like RIC killer (which allows you to have full root vs partial root).
I should also clarify my previous statement - XperiFirm is great for getting *new* firmware.. but you will either need to back up copies of old firmware for future use, or seek them out in threads if you need them later.

ahhh, now that makes sense (re: some root solutions including a recovery), thank you for clearing that up.
One final thing (before I dive in and at least get KK installed+rooted)...
If I have to start reading one more subject I think my head will explode lol so If you could just clear up one thing about RIC Killer....
I want full root, not partial - do I have to mess with RIC Killer or can I leave it alone?
On the guide I am trying to follow; someone said they ended up 'half rooted' - would that be because of RIC killer or user error when creating the pre-rooted zip?
just dont want to go through all this and end up only being half rooted haha, cheers.
edit: ok so after checking flashtool it seems I already have the right one (NOT SONY)... I have version 0.9.19.7 But there are two warnings (pasted below) on the flashtool thread.
Does the first warning simply mean 'Use the latest version'??
I have no clue about the second warning...do i just uncheck the uption regarding simlock.ta IF it is in the list of options when I flash kitkat? I have no clue if my ftf file includes simlock.ta.
Both warnings mention bricks and hard bricks so I'm taking them pretty seriously haha.
Any advice on these warnings would be great, thanks for your patience.
"WARNING : Since Xperia Z, sony added a new set of files I called bootbundle. Those files can be bundled from 0.9.13 and can be flashed from 0.9.13 only. To all those flashing devices from Z edition to all after Z, it is highly advised to use 0.9.13 and to be sure FTF you flash contain the bootbundle set. I've been reported of hard bricks because of missing such set of files from bundles.
I WANT TO GET YOUR ATTENTION ABOUT THE LATEST BRANCH 0.9.19. Without FSC, the tool will by default include simlock.ta if this file is present in the FTF. The result will be a bricked phone
As a workaround, until I release a patch, please please tick the exlude simlock.ta if you see it in the list.
0.9.19.6 fixes the simlock.ta issue. This file is by default excluded. Then it will not be flashed until you explicitely untick the exlcude simlock box. Do it at your own risk."

Even if you don't have a RIC killer installed, most root stuff will work fine. On the Z1, the RIC will prevent you from doing specific things, most importantly mounting /system as writable, which is necessary for certain type of advanced modifications.
However, if you install XZDR, you'll get the custom recovery + the RIC killer. I would just do that.

Correct, the warning is to just make sure you use a version later than 0.9.13; you're fine to use 0.9.19.7. It will tell you that .8 is out, but the change is not important to you. You don't need to do anything special regarding simlock.ta.
If you have an external SD card, copy everything you want to flash onto the phone before starting (5.1.1 prerooted, SuperSU, XZDR), so it's already there when you need it.

THANKS.
So As long as I install XZDR I will have RIC killer and that will ensure a full root? thats great, cheers..
Thanks for clearing up the flashtool warnings too, very much appreciated.
As for your final tip about the SD card... do you mean copy everything to the SD card? or the phone? I'm ASSuming you mean the SD card as the phone memory will get wiped during flasshing if I clear everything? no?
Sorry mate I'm having a total brain-fart after everything Ive read, my comprehension skills are at an all time low lol. Tired.
Thanks again for all ya help mate, I'm just about ready to get this crap done... and then once Ive finished I know I'll be thinking 'wtf was all the panicking about? lol.
THANKS.

Make sure you flash SuperSU and XZDR at the same time. If you do not, it will not work correctly (still only partial root). If you make your own pre-root ZIP, you can roll them into it and do it in one fell swoop.
Yeah. External SD card = not the phone. If you do a clean flash (which you should), you will be wiping the phone storage.

You're the man, man...THANKS. :highfive:
I'll check the pre-root zip I found and if it doesnt have Supersu included I'll make my own and include XZDR too - I like the idea of having things 'slipstreamed' into one flash - thanks for the tip.
Thanks a lot for all your help in calming all my little worries about this process,,, very much appreciated.
I'll do the whole lot tomorrow and report back... thanks again.
Suggestion - since you are re-learning and your goal at the moment is to have a rooted 5.1.1, I suggest you download and install Flashtool for windows. Go to http://www.flashtool.net/index.php. Now in Flashtool, your need to install the appropriate drivers for your device/s. Instructions searching (I'm doing my lunch while typing reply - lol). Then use XperiFirm which is integrated in Flashtool. It has its own icon, just click it so you can download a 5.0.2 FTF for yor region. Install that 5.0.2 FTF on your phone using Flashtool (Flash it Baby! Flash it!) Then you can root 5.0.2 with ease using Kingroot. Replace Kingroot with SuperSU. Then install NUT's Dual recovery. Then you can download any of the pre-rooted 5.1.1 FTFs XDA peeps are putting up under the General section and boom. You are now on 5.1.1. with root.

cheers mate, I appreciate all the help I can get lol.
I decided to go with 5.0.2 instead of kitkat, but when I click on the .270 firmware links in xperifirm I get an error which says:
"Incomplete Firmware.
The following files are missing on the server:
fsp.zip.
Proceed with caution"
I clicked on the latest 5.1.1 firmwares and none of them give this error... so does the error simply mean that .270 is not the latest version? I couldnt find the answer in google. Are thes firmwares without fsp.zip safe to flash?
Thanks again.
edit: hmmm looks like i'll have to flash 4.4 instead.
When I try to download a .270 (5.0.2) firmware in xperifirm; it stops downloading after a few seconds and says a reuired file is missing
If I try to download one of the .368 firmwares it downloads ok
edit 2: F*ck my life... Not enough space on C: for unpacked ftf file (Small c partition on SSD) ... so unless there is a way for flashtool to flash from d:\...\firmware im screwed. I'll try compressing (NTFS) the c drive and hope thats enough

There is a solution, but it's slightly complicated. Proceed at your own risk, maybe do a little research to make sure you understand what I'm tell you to do.
1) Browse to C:\Users\<username>\. if you aren't already, show hidden files and folders.
2) Grab the .flashTool directory and move it onto a drive with sufficient free space (e.g., D:\.flashTool).
3) Go to Start and type cmd into the search field. When cmd.exe shows up, right-click and select Run As Administrator.
4) Change to the user directory ("cd C:\Users\<username>").
5) Make a junction point named .flashTool pointed to where ever you moved the folder (e.g., "mklink /j .flashTool D:\.flashTool").
This will make flashtool think that its settings/data folder is in the right place, when really it's just a fake folder linked somewhere else.

Thanks again mate. Ive done that once before and forgotten all about it.
This time I just compressed c:\ with NTFS compression and it gained just enough space (F*ck you Winsxs).
But the above info will surely come in handy in future, so once again: Thanks! Tou've been a big help.
Just about to install XZDR and a pre-rooted 5.1.1 :fingers-crossed: Cheers mate :good:

What a way you went through.
As you already were on 5.0.2 and rooted you just had to install xzdr to your phone.
After that you could flash one of the Pre-Rooted zip files you need.

well I know that now dont I? :silly: haha
yeah I was on a kingrooted 5.02, and should have just installed XZDR etc but I upgraded to 5.1.1 ASSunming I could root it with kingroot again, big mistake.
If I had read about kingroot not working on 5.1.1 I could have saved 24hrs worth of headaches.
Oh well... all done now. Rooted on 5.1.1, busybox installed and all
Now begins the long process of re-installing and customizing all over again *yipee*
No doubt I will go through all this again in a few weeks when I decide to unlock the BL and install a customROM And kernel
THIS is why I spent a few years with a 'dumb' phone after my HD2... ohhh the joys of flashing.
BIG Thanks to evryone who helped me out on this especially Xasbo, Gamer4Life and Deathschythe33. CHEERS
:good: glad you got it sorted.

I flashed with C6903_14.4.A.108 Generic SG and everything went fine, I got this massage:"NFC Firmware updating" "Don´t turn off you device", and got loop. Oh my god???? What Iam doing wrong?
Any suggestion. Thank you

Hmm. I've never seen that NFC message before. Did it look like that firmware update completed before the phone restarted?
Are you still able to flash anything to the phone? What are you trying to accomplish?
