OTA update file location - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does someone know where the OTA update file is downloaded, exact location? i have checked /cache and there is update.zip or different file, but phone says update ready with posibility to install update, so for sure zip is downloaded somewhere, but can't find the right location
Thanks in advance

Depends what version you're on.
Early versions 4.2.1 stored in download folder .
Not sure where later version stored

I would suggest to make sure the OTA downloads and then use a file explorer to search your sdcard for zipfiles. One of those should be the OTA, my guess would also be the Download folder.

Copy OTA Update to Computer on Unrooted Phone

Like the title says I'm looking on how to copy the OTA update I'm downloading right now onto my computer. I'm on RC29 and I'm doing the AnyCut trick and the file it's downloading is signed-kila-ota-14721.2cf0eca0.zip and I'm guessing this file is RC29 -> DRC83 since it's 47385871 bytes. So yeah I'm just looking on how to copy this update from my phone to my computer and sorry if this was already posted somewhere I just couldn't find it.
OK so I activated adb on my phone like stated above is at RC29. What is the exact location of the file I have to pull the OTA .zip file?
Anyone know how to do this? (Sorry for bumping my own thread it's just I forgot you can't delete posts in this forum )
don't know if this would work, but you could try adb pull /cache [dir on computer]
OTA latest update 06/11/10
i waited for the ota update today, got it the name of it if u need to request it is
signed-kila-ota-21415.eec0bd63.zip

Can't install OTA using Mobile Odin, Odin and CWM

I downloaded a zip file from sammobile.com's OTA files section. The ZIP contains the following files:
debug_info ==> 1kb (size)
delta.hidden ==> 856kb
delta.modem ==> 1kb
delta.platform ==> 84455 kb
delta.Sbl ==> 1280kb
delta.ua ==> 241 kb
delta.zImage ==> 4936kb
the ZIP file won't install using Mobile Odin, Odin, and CWM. In mobile Odin, it says that the file is not an OTA / Update ZIP file, and merely extracted the contents.
the filename of the downloaded file is GT-N7000_SMA_93970111.zip.
any idea how i can install the OTA file?
I have tried searching this forum and google, but to no avail. it appears that nobody knows how to use the ZIP file.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
What was your purpose in downloading this OTA file anyway? A firmware zip file either contains a single file with "tar.md5" as the extension or 3 files for CSC, Modem/phone and PDA file all of which are recognized automatically by mobile odin or can be loaded on PC odin. I don't think sammobile has files for CWM. No idea about the several files that are contained on the one you downloaded. From the size of the files alone we can conclude that this is NOT firmware as normal size is 600-900 MB.
What I understand from the word OTA is Over The Air and as such can only be used either within the device itself to update or thru kies.
Good luck!
I think it is a very specific scenario to use ota.
The ota file probably need you to have previous released versions of csc installed.
Dont know much about mobile odin.
I think ota is a new feature in mobile odin. Best to check cf mobile odin thread.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
when Mobile Odin extracts the zip file you'll get a.md5 file. After the extraction just select this md5 file in Mobile Odin and you're good to go
According to the OP there is no md5 file contained on the zip file.
As per sammobile:
OTA files
This section is specially for the die-hard Samsung owner.
The person who love to tweak with their device fully on their own RISK!
If you dont know what to do with these files, you probably shouldn't touch them.
Let those who knows do it insead.
Not all OTA updates are officially released to public! Samsung may use OTA firmwares as tests first.
SamMobile will not help you with all kind of OTA updates.
Using OTA updates is fully at your own risk.

AFAIK OTA updates are firmware specific.You must be on certain firmwares to flash the OTA.For exampleTA update yyy may need you to be on xxx firmware for it to work.But sadly I dont know how to flash it....
Could it be that you have to be totally stock unrooted to be able to flash it via stock recovery (3e)? If that's the case the OTA .zip must be stored in external sd. I don't think need to rename it to update.zip, because we can still flash any .zip with the right signature on 3e. Thinking of trying on my Note but it has been 'out of flashed' for close to a month!

then tell us what do you want to do? the 3e recovery wont take the file even if it is renamed or not... I've got totally unrooted and on stock.

Where to find and backup OTA from sdcard HTC One?

I am running 100%, downloaded the huge ~400 MB OTA 4.2.2 update. I then postponed the installation, flashed CWM and rooted. Rebooting still gives me the prompt to install the fully downloaded update although i know it won't work. But i just wanted to backup that OTA update. It should be possible now that i'm rooted. So, where to find that OTA update? I've been looking for the past hour and haven't been able to track it down. Is the OTA file supposed to be a single zip file? Or is it extracted already in its own folder with several files? I'm using ES File Manager with root access permission.
On firmware 1.28 i noticed that the OTA was simply dumped as a single zip file in the Download folder, which is easily accessible in the Internal Memory without any need for root. However, i just cannot find the OTA file while on firmware 1.29. HTC has obviously made some changes and tried really hard to hide the OTA update. Can someone please tell me where to look? I am rooted and using ES File Manager.

Hey man
Not sure (again ), but can you check /cache/
Have to be root-enabled though.

Hey nkk71 :cyclops:
The device is rooted and i've enabled root access to ES File Explorer. I just checked inside /cache/ and there are only two folders: lost+found (empty) and recovery (which has 2 insignificant logs). The 2.24.401.1 OTA is 416 MB. Now, i just have to find it.
Let's hope we can crack this one! :fingers-crossed:

Hmm, I thought it would be either in downloads (which you already checked) or /cache. I'm sure it's only 1 file, not several. How about a search in ES for OTA starting from /. May take a while but should find it.

Root Explorer did it with its much better and faster search engine. ES File Manager is good for a free app, but not the best.
Verdict? While in official firmware 1.29.401.12, the 2.24.401.1 OTA is downloaded at /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache
And you were right, it is still a single zip file. But the download location is really well hidden this time around.

HTC must be following the motto: why make things simple, if you can make them hard(er).... user's will spend much more time on their phone, than doing other stuff.
I'm progressively updating from all the OTA's. I'll just add the information here during the update process so it might help others as a reference, if they need to find and save all their OTAs. I've now received the 2.24.401.8 OTA update and the save location is the same as for the 2.24.401.1: /data/data/com.android.providers.downloads/cache
Edit: And that was the last OTA update available at this time, for MID: PN0710000, CID: HTC__001 (i really thought i'd be having the 4.3 with Sense 5.5 OTA update by now. oh well.)

[4.3] 1/14/14 i537 AT&T OTA file

This is the .cfg file of the 4.3 OTA for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (i537) from AT&T on 1/14/14 for those who are unable to receive OTA because they are not on MF3. (The file doesn't download as a zip via OTA)
Using this on another device would likely cause problems so I wouldn't suggest it.
Also, I did not update because I want to keep root.
Instructions:
1) Download the .cfg file (links below)
2) Copy it over to your phone's internal storage
3) Using a root manager app like 'ES File Manager' or 'Root Browser', copy the .cfg file from internal storage to /data/fota
4) Make sure you have KNOXAgent.apk and wssyncmldm.apk in /system/app for this to take place. A lot of people either changed the name, deleted, or moved the apk for rooted purposes.
**If you replaced Knox and wssync, you MUST reboot for effects to take place since the odex tells the apk what to do on boot**<<
5) Go to Settings>More>About Device>Software Updates>Continue Update
OR the method below which worked for some people (I can't confirm this works or not)
1) Download .cfg file (links below)
2) Change file to a .zip
3) Copy to phone's external storage (the internal will get wiped)
4) Flash via regular recovery
MD5 for .cfg file: F43D00ABDC4FE4D5BFB305CC6598FEB3
If you run into any problems, I won't be much help since I'm not a dev.
REMEMBER! You will lose root with the update. Don't say you didn't know because the warning is here<<<<

Loading it to Google Drive right now. Bandwidth got capped on Dropbox, any suggestions for a place to upload it?
Would it be possible to get some help getting some stock files from the /system/app folder? I modded/removed a few of the stock apps and seem to have lost a big chunk of my original backups. I believe these apps are why the update fails for me as the updater script checks a bunch of the files SHA1 checksums. Seeing as on my phone these apps are missing or modded I figured if I could acquire the stock copies it may finally work.
Files I need, and corresponding odex if possible: (a full copy of the /system/app folder would be awesome if possible)
Blurb.apk
Chrome.apk
Flipboard.apk
Peel.apk
Phonesky.apk
PlusOne.apk
SamsungWatchON.apk
SecLauncher3.apk
I may also need "/system/media/shutdown.qmg" because I know at one time I had changed it, but I cant for the life of me remember if I put the original back
tried everything followed to a T n the option to continue the update is greyed out still
Won't work?
Continue update is still greyed out for me too...
I was on stock MF3 and rooted with activeroot only so I could copy this to the /data/fota folder.
Ditto with winters setup

Are you able to root with any method? It seems as though no one knows about rooting 4.3. This thread has a root method for the firmware leaked before official ota: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606550 I really need someone to test it so I know if it's safe to go to 4.3.

Thanks AjC - Just to be clear, do I need these files for "Continue Update" to recognize the update file? I'm confused, I made no modifications other than root in order to access data/fota.

OTA Update

I forgot to freeze the Motorola OTA with TiBu and got an Update notification this morning....is the OTA file located in /cache? If it is, I think I found it and it's only 2.88MB......called Blur_Version.23.16.3.victara_verizon.verizon.en.US .zip
Can some one confirm the file location for me?
EDIT: That is the file location...I did capture the Update .zip file if anyone needs it.
Yes, that is the OTA file.
