Anyone taken apart the Verizon version to see if the Qi charging can be switched out? - G2 Accessories

I'm just wondering if there is anyone that has seen what makes the Verizon version so special it has wireless charging. If it is just a simple pad, it could be added to the other phones too.
I'd like us all to have wireless charging.

There are some pics floating around, I think here or in some of the reviews.
But the Verizon backplate is different since the case is thicker to accomodate the Qi stuff. Youd need that new backplate. But another "rub" is that the buttons on the other variants are different size, so if you tried to put a Verizon backplate on an ATT phone you would need to modify the button and camera holes, and add one more for the noise cancelling mic.

Sounds like if the connections are there, it could be something a third part could manage. I'd definitely buy a replacement back with the Qi built in

I wonder if it's similar to the Note 2. I hacked that to have wireless charging based off an internet guide. Put in the coil, use copper tape as conductors from the coil to the battery, and voila. It worked with the Palm charger though, which I assume is different than the one Verizon g2 uses.
If anyone has a way to order the Verizon g2 door I'd be willing to crack my AT&T D800 open and give it a shot.
Hmm come to think of it I still have that Palm wireless charger and an extra Palm coil at home, anyone care to venture a guess if this would work, or would I end up frying something? This is what I used.

I don't think you would fry anything... I just don't know if the room is there to fit it in the back nor where it hooks up.
Note: it might be better to leave the back off and use a case to hold the coil in

Here's what it looks like inside. This is the verizon version obviously. I don't know what the other versions look like, but I do remember a pic floating around here.

Here's what I do, It's a Nokia DT-900 stuck on an Ibolt Ilumina car dock and wired into a 12v plug. Works like a champ!
I had to take apart the DT-900 and leave the back off of it to make it thinner, then I used 3M mounting tape to hold it in place.
Also, the back is actually pretty easy to take off. Just start separating it with a fingernail on the side and then work your way around slowly.

there are still two pins on the AT&T and Tmobile version. I have a S4 Active with a wireless QI receiver in it. Basically the OEM charging back for the S4 has 4 pins like the verizon one but for my wireless charging only these two have to be connected. There may be a chance we can mod the wireless receiver to work with the QI charger. The S4 verison works great. I could be wrong though but it might be worth looking into to
Now the QI wireless receiver I have it a little thick but they have thinner ones available

The Korean G2 F320L I have has 4 connectors on the right next to the battery. It would simply need a wireless coil pack added from the F320 wireless charging cover.

Anyone been looking into this? I'm really excited to get a G2 but missing out on Qi seems like a pretty lame drawback.

The two pins seem to be connected or something on the back cover, could this be for NFC instead or is wireless charging actually in them?

I don't think those pins on the TMO variant are for wireless charging. They look like grounds for antennas to me.
Comparing the VZ to the TMO, the wireless charging looks to be missing. You can see the big coil on the back cover of the VZ and it's connected to the 4pin connector at the top left of the VZ phone. That same plate is missing on the TMO variant.
I know the s4 just uses two coils, but LG looks to use 4 of them. Doesnt look like it's possible with the TMO variant. Would love to see AT&T and Sprint though....but probably same as TMO.

Don't really mean to be super silly here but those super conveniently placed white/black wires seem to link the charging board and the mainboard where the battery plugs in.
Anyone here want to bite and pop open their back cover and take the plastic covers off and stick a multimeter to them and see if it'd directly connected to the battery or usb?
Dang, seems to be "antenna interconnects" according to a Nexus 4 tear down. Wonder why there's 2 on the G2 though.

This was at Qi's both at CES, and I actually got to put my note 2 in it and try it out!
It has a MicroUSB connector inside that you slide your phone into, then you just press the top of the phone into it. No, it does not come apart like iphone power cases.
There is a MicroUSB port on the bottom of the case, off-center. The Qi Rep I spoke to said it passes through power and data, but not MHL. He also said the wireless charging will not affect NFC in any way. The flip cover portion is very similar to the official Samsung flip cover, and features a row of holes at the top to let the earpiece, light sensor, and FFC through. There is also a small switch on the bottom of the device to turn wireless charging on or off - why you would want to turn it off, I'm not sure, but it's there if you want to.
The color of the case was very close to the gray of the Note, though it lacked the faux-brushed-metal look.
And yes, it did charge my phone.
The Qi Rep I spoke to said that this was the retail model and it would be in stores 'soon'
Will it fit in a Smart Dock?
Is it a case itself? If not, what kind of case fits it? Could I mod say a TPU to fit?
How nice does it look? Quality of it?

thats a no to the smart dock. you need to be able to directly connect your device to the dock for it to work. the case blocks it.
and if you look at the pics, its just like an extended battery case, only it adds qi charging. instead of using the qi charging pins behind the battery door (which are not present in all models), it looks like they went the safe route and just let it qi charge via microusb.

Actually, he's correct. Not only would it be unstable in the Samsung Smart Dock due to the port off to the side, the smart dock uses MHL to get at least the video out. I have no idea if the added thickness of the case would affect how it would sit in the dock though.

It is a case - in fact it feels pretty similar to the official Samsung hardcase. No, I don't think you could mod another case to fit over the top of this.
As far as looks, as I said, its about the same color as the gray of the phone, but without the faux-brushed-metal look. Actually it has a bit of a texture to it, but it feels like the same high-quality polycarbonate Samsung uses. The flip cover portion actually feels a little bit sturdier than Samsung's official flip cover.

Some models do not have the pins exposed. My guess is they dont want to deal with returns due to.incompatible model
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2
I thought this was a Qi wireless charging solution bu unfortunately still cabled. In that case, I'd be more interested in the TYLT, although I would still need to get a back case with a Qi charge receptor and all I've seen so far are DIY ones.
I find it really disappointing that these manufacturer make these qi case/battery cover a few mm thicker than a oem one's, making it unsuitable for ppl to use protective cases.
I have been using these for sometime, about 6 months for both S3 and note 2, less than 1mm thick and fits under any original battery covers, and you can us any protective case, although very thick cases or thick wallet type case won't work due to the qi waves signal will not connect, but was told even otterbox will work.
These are not official QI certified, but will work with any QI charging base.
So far I haven't seen anything better than these, may be larger companies should learn from them.
Will not stop nfc from working, and some note 2 will not work, as some version has the inductive charging connectors removed.

Qi Wireless Charger Receiver/Plate

I wish someone would come up with something like this that would make the Xperia Z Qi compatible...
So far they have it for the S3 and Note 2.
Just slot it in behind your battery and you are set for Qi wireless charging...
For us, it would have to be hidden behind in an external case though...
If only someone could come up with something like that for the Xperia Z, utilizing the dock connector ports and we can have wireless charging too!
The problem with the current Sony dock is that it is too tight fitting for most cases.

so, isn't there any Qi charger without case? I mean, I'd like to have my own one... never liked cases with covers and sh*t
I will check the polarity of both Xperia Z and Note 2 charging pins tonight when I get home. The spacing on both sets of pins is very close, if polarity is not switched around this means you should be able to use a Note 2 Qi pad under a case of your choice, provided you take some of the bulk off the contacts on the Qi pad itself.
Do NOT attempt to hook one up (if you have one), without checking the polarity first. You may short your phone and kill it.

Looking at that Wurth transmitter, I see a coil, with two leads coming off of that. My DIY electronics knowledge tells me that's positive and negative. However: for that coil to work, does one have to have a control circuit of some sort? Great mod, very interested in doing this! Have you encounter any problems are doing this? And what did you use to raise the point in the wireless card?
I've managed to get my XZ charging using a Qi baseplate and a receiver for a Galaxy Note2.

The receiver was a little expensive, as I thought it came with a charger plate.
I'll try and get some pics up later, but basically I've just hidden the receiver under my Casemate Tough case, and fitted the pins onto the charging dock connector on the side.
I filed down the pins so they would fit into the recess on the phone, but they aren't quite long enough to touch the brass contacts on the phone, so I've wedged a bit of stiff card down the side of the case over the pins to force them to keep touching the connector. I suppose someone who is good with a soldering iron could make the pins on the receiver longer so they touch the phone connectors when the case is on.
It's far from perfect at the moment, but as a bit of a hack and slash job, it works fine. The receiver is only rated at 500mah, which is a lot less than the Sony charger, so we'll see how quickly it can charge the phone.
Please tell me how

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered

Yup, right here:

Makes them thicker, and the buttons ended up smaller on VZW.
I'd rather have a couple hunred more mah battery if it got thicker anyways.

No idea what you're talking about. I just wanna be able to plug my phone in to the dock and have it start charging. I don't care if it makes the dock slightly thicker.

I thought you were talking about the wireless charging. Yah, its odd the dock doesn't come with a charger.
I'm still using my OwlPad wireless charger from my DNA days, but I don't connect the charging portion. Fits every variety of phone that I've had snugly!

It's not an official car holder, it's a universal one. But I've been so impressed with it on all my phones, it's worth a shot. Fits the g2 nicely and doesn't cover the bezel. Great customer service too.

I'm also hoping for a car mount real quick, as I'm going on vacation in a week and a half, and barring any sudden change, will be using my LG G2 (come on, Tuesday...) to nav. Worse comes to worse, I'll get a universal one. For my GS II, I'm using one made for, I think, the Motorola Atrix. A couple of years ago, AT&T had this great deal where you buy the desktop dock for 16 bucks and get the car mount for a penny.
Would really be nice if they put the wireless charger in the car mount.. then no wires that you have to fool with hooking up once you put it in there...
Surely I can't be the only person that can think of these things..

Yup, right here:

But the thing is, Verizon units are thicker with wireless charging capabilities. Thus, this holder may not work for other variants..

That mount doesn't charge the phone. I got a car mount with Qi wireless charging and it works great for my G2. I can give people the link if they want.
Edit:
Here's what I got. It works great and it doesn't cover the screen. The 2 grips don't bend in that much so it doesn't block the screen.

Hi found some mounts for g2 :
Check out them may be you find something interesting there....

Thanks
Now the wireless car dock actually sounds useful. Too bad I have att: ( otherwise I don't see the big deal in putting your phone on a large pad that takes up space and has to be plugged in anyway. Now if they can build it into the arm of my couch or surface of my desk we got something good. Wireless furniture chargers.

I'm a little partial to the big, clunky mounts with beanbag bases, so this caught my eye. It's looks more like a general mount, even though the site mentions the G2 in the product title. Considering I really need one for vacation, I may go with this. http://www.shopandroid.com/arkon-we...ash-mount-and-slim-grip-holder/3A78A10703.htm
If anyone has any other ideas or found a more specific solution, I'm definitely listening.

Hi Fellas,
I'm looking for an "official" car mount which will fit the unit snugly for my international version D802.
The universal ones tend to have thick sponges at the sides and our devices have ultra thin bezel which gets covered
Any leads?

The G2 fits very nicely. You must press it firmly onto the USB connector (on right in picture) or you will get an error that says the phone cannot be charged.

I happen to find this particular one at my local tech mall:
http://shipi.com/easy-one-touch-car-mount-universal-car-mount-fits-most-smartphones.html
The claws are thin enough not to cover the screen and the one touch function is awesome. I just need to "drop" my device into the mount and it will clip itself as there's a button that will trigger the claws to snap. :good:
I went by a local VZ store yesterday to check if they had the official dock. They did not. However, I did find that the Samsung Universal Navigation Mount holds the phone quite nicely and still allows access to the USB & headphone jacks as well as the camera out above the mount. At $30 online, I think that's the way I'll go.

Now this looks interesting. Does the phone still slow charge? Have you tried it with GPS running or music running with the screen on? Does it drain faster than it charges?
Thank for any answers you can provide!
Does the back come off? Haven't gotten mine yet.
I'd like to use one of these, but don't want to stick anything on the outside of the case.

External Qi Charging Coil

Has anyone tried one of these?
http://www.amazon.com/Aftermarket-P...=UTF8&qid=1385474373&sr=8-5&keywords=lg+g2+qi
I'd be curious to hear your experience, I wonder how thick or fragile it is. I'd buy one to test but I am not in the US and would have to import it.
I ordered one a week or two ago. One of my wireless charging pads (which I didn't have any of, so I had to order a couple) arrived yesterday, but still waiting for the receiver coil. Hopefully any day now.
Edit: bah, I forgot, it's being shipped from HK; it'll be a while yet (the pads came from the US).

Awesome, I look foward to hearing your thoughts on it when you get it
They are pretty thin. I've never use one quite like that, but I used the external pads for the Note 2 that I retro fitted into my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus... and it worked extremely well.
I ended up hooking it up to the POGO pins and taping it onto the battery I had to do a little case modding to make it all fit in a normal Incipio Feather case (basically cut a back plate in half, but I had like 5 of them).
So it works really well. The problem I see here though is you are eating up the USB port all the time. With the thin profile cable, I wouldn't attempt to unplug it many times. Just leave it and forget it. Fortunately the G2 has a great battery. My Verizon G2 has this built in, and I Qi Wireless Charge every night.
The Coils are thin, but thick enough to forbid the use of a thin case like a Incipio Feather. If you use this, you are best off using a TPU case that is flexible.
player911 has nailed the situation. My plan is to 'switch over' entirely to wireless charging for the most part, and wifi file transfers -- I don't want to be unplugging/plugging the usb connector in at all. I figure one more charging pad (total 3) should do it... 1 at work, 2 at home kinda thing.
The eBay version of the amazon listing linked seems to suggest it will come with a case (the one pictured). I can't imagine why I would be asked to pick a colour otherwise black or white, when ordering. Yet both listings state "1 piece", so who knows. Will report what I end up with when it arrives. My S3 had the pogo pins so that you could use wireless or usb for charging but I never went that route at the time. The use of the usb port on the G2 did give me pause but I'm going to give it a go.
I would give it a go too. Perhaps temporarily until a internal solution pops up (bound to happen). Even if it doesn't come with a case, TPU cases are a dime a dozen.

I've received my coil from ebay, and "installed" it.
It is working fine, however my battery is almost full, so I can't test now the current. I'll do it later.

Awesome, thanks for the pics! BTW, what charging pad is it that you have there, with the green and red lights?
How thick is the coil? Do you think it is possible to fit it under the back cover? Because I'm planning to do that and run the cable through a hole I want to cut in the back cover so that I can plug it in the usb connector.
Eh that isn't too bad. Looks fine IMO. Besides you don't really need to use the USB port with the Wireless Storage option (awesome feature) and Qi Charging.
So if the port is unused, the also acts like a port saver to keep dirt and lent out.
If you feel lucky and want to further reduce thickness, you can open that package up and remove just the coil. The packaging is basically a thick plastic sticky back that is folded over. Removing the outer plastic housing will cut down 1-2mm. Inside the hard plastic cover, there is the actual coil that is in a black square sticker. The Coil itself is round. On mine, I removed the outer shell and trimmed the unused outside area around the coil. Creates a smaller footprint and gets even thinner.
My goal with my Galaxy Nexus was to fit it in a hard Incipio Feather Slim Case. As it is, any TPU case should work though.

it is thin, but I don't if there is enough space under the backcover, I've never removed it.
I'm still testing it, if my readings are correct it is charging the G2 with at least 400 mA.
Now I've moved it to check how much does the positioning matter.
I've charged it from 50% to 100% using this stuff, it was charging with ~450 mA
Qi is a slow charge. I use mine for my desk and nighttime charging.

fine
400-450 mA charging current.
I've ordered two different kinds, one is the same as Wizard7 that purports 500 mA output and the other purports 750 mA output. I've received neither one yet although according to tracking, the 750 mA one is finally slated for delivery today. But it has a longer cable that I'll figure out how to fold or contend with.
While I fully expected qi charging to be slower, I have to admit I hoped it would be faster than PC USB at least. It would have been a decent solution if I didn't "lose" use of the usb ports but I guess as long as it charges overnight, I can't complain.
Sooo which qi chargers do you guys recommend?
I also bought the charging coil ;D

I purchased 2 similar magnetic cables by WSKEN on Amazon...$14.99 each. Looks like they are made from the same manufactures but under different names.
The micro attachment is very tight and keeps flush with the bottom of the LG G4...the magnet cable is similar to Apples magnetic charging cables. If you didn't know, you would think it was made by Apple.
I haven't got the chance to test them out since I just received them today, but so far so good.
They need to design different types of attachments, so a single magnetic cable can be utilized with several different charger types.
Overall, I think this was a good idea and should be better than a plain USB to micro cable.

This has the potential to replace wireless charging. Sony has been doing it for years.
Best is that it is so easy to retrofit any device
The problem with the stickers i've noticed when it came out for samsungs a year ago is that NFC does not work properly. So they make the sticker with thinner wires. Now NFC works but then the problem is it takes longer to wirelessly charge than with thicker wires. Next. you have to find a proper charger and depending on the device, if the vendor did not make it you will be lucky to get it working.
Too much hassle....
With the dual sim G4, there is no possiblity for wireless charging at all since the two pins are not even there, i don't think i will miss wireless charging.

My question is:
Does this have any fitment issues with cases or will most cases with a large enough cutout work with these?
If anyone who has these could post the dimensions in LxWxH (in millimeters) I would greatly appreciate it.
