HOW TO Enable Voice Call Functions in 4.3 ROMs for Tab10.1/P7500/P4 - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development

Hi all,
This post is for those who are interested in using their tab 10.1 P7500 or P4 with voice call functions using 4.3 ROMS as a back up device in case normal phone bricks....
I was able to test two 4.3 based ROMs namely PAC Infamous by kasper_h (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2411081) and CM 10.2 SGT7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2098429) by twa_priv. Both worked and can be used with enabled voice functions. Other 4.3 ROMS found in the Android dev thread can also be used.
Here are some tips, perhaps useful to some, after installing your preferred 4.3 based rom above-mentioned.
1. Make sure that the right modem i9103XXLQ3 is flashed through CWM. You can get it herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875024.
2. Make sure that tab SIM card is enabled for phone calls by your provider. You can be sure that your phone SIM card is, when you transfer it to your tab. But if you only have an internet enabled SIM card by your provider, this guide won't work, no matter what.
3. After putting your SIM card in your device, open the settings, CLICK on "MORE", CLICK on MOBILE NETWORKS then CLICK on ACCESS POINT NAMES (APN).
4. CLICK on the PLUS (+) sign found on the upper right hand corner then manually put correctly the corresponding APN configuration of your SIM for both Internet and MMS (these APN settings vary depending on your provider and country so one must look that up, if the APN settings are not configured automatically. If you are using your phone SIM card, the APN settings can be found in the same settings area of your phone: see n. 2 above).
5. Once you set the APN configuration, CLICK on the THREE DOTS found on the upper right hand corner and then CLICK on SAVE. If you can't find the THREE DOTS sign, GO to SETTINGS, CLICK on BUTTONS and then in MENU BUTTONS, CHECK SHOW ACTION OVERFLOW which enables the display of the three dots..
6. It may also be necessary to reboot your device for the APN settings to be activated after configuration.
7. After that, click on NETWORK OPERATORS. When you choose your network in the settings, it may give an "error in searching networks message". Click then on the automatic search of network.Once it gives the message "Registered in your network", then the tab is ready for voice receive and call functions.
8. As mentioned by John Kester, the tab's SPEAKERS ARE OFF BY DEFAULT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452869) so you have to CLICK ON THE SPEAKER ICON everytime you receive or make a call.
Thanks to kasper_h, twa_priv and to john kester (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2445431) for the help.
Enjoy and all the best!

Hi haythmams. For phone calls on cm 10.1 roms (Android 4.2.2) which you have just flashed on your tab10.1, please see threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231110
The post I have made applies to cm 10.2 roms based on Android 4.3. You might want to install them instead of the cm 10.1 based rom.
Either way, make sure that you have the correct APN configurations.
Hope this helps.

Already follow all your steps, but still can't call any number.
Just a beep and it says "call ended"
Maybe i missed something?
But, now i can call USSD number for my prepaid card info :victory:

I also experienced the "beep and call ended" phenomenon the first time I tried it but after RESTARTING the device and making sure that the APN configurations are SAVED, it worked for me (for both SGT7 and Infamous PAC 4.3 ROMS.
Make sure that in NETWORK OPERATORS configuration, the message "REGISTERED ON NETWORK" appeared.
Good luck.

Modem firmware i9103XXLQ3
I'm almost sure you need to flash the modem (Baseband version) i9103XXLQ3 to be able to make/receive voice calls with our P4...
BTW, why to configure the APN settings??? That's only to get data connection.
As far as I know, you just need that modem version and a voice-enabled SIM card.

Thanks Lucas. Most probably this is the solution which I overlooked and took for granted while writing the post. I remember installing this firmware after putting the APN configuration but I had no clue that this was the remedy...Noob inadvertence on my part
Anyway, will update my post. Thanks.

I need more help as possible. I did as sanjay said. but failed.
did you search for the network operators in linux?
if it doesnt txt then you must not be connected to any service operator,
cause usually when you start up it will connect to the operator and download its settings, if you use mms then you may need to add the number or address.
what about using 2g networks?, flight mode ?.
connecting to a service for txting and calling works under windows ?, what rom are you using ?
it should just work straight out of the box with a generic xperia.
i was fiddling with the operators under linux, it stalled wouldnt load again so i deleted the data.img and now back to normal, then i turned it off changed simcard to 2degres and both on the first boot
i dont know what else to tell you, you may need to ask the network provider i didnt find much information on Maxis Malaysia website.
Can you even see a signal strength in the notification bar at the top? or is it showing as disconnected?
Its not the APN settings, because they are only for data connections, and have nothing to do with calls & txt.
The problem may be that android cant read the network settings from the SIM you have? Maybe go to your carrier and ask for a new SIM? (one compatible with android)
Does your carrier sell any android phones?

Emergency call only

The phone was working pretty fine 30 min ago when i flashed Darky's 8.0 ROM , when I took it out to make a phone call and it says just "Emergency call only" instead of showing my phone operator (BSNL 3G). I tried rebooting, no luck! Still the same. I replaced the sim with operator (TATA DOCOMO) i got same thing Emergency call only".
Now the Strange thing is that it has signal (full) but I can't make/receive calls . If I go under Settings -> Wifi -> Mobile networks settings and I look for operators it searches and I can see all of them (mine included) but I cannot select it!! Neither mine nor another one ...it just says "Unable to connect. Try later".
Weirdest thing of all is that I AM RECEIVING PUSH EMAILS from gmail!!!
I can browse internet and market. Twitter application is working.
Anyone has a clue about this??? Has it ever happened to anyone?
I have reflashed again with Darky's Rom 8.0 and the Stock ROM but still Emergency call only".
Hope I don't have to reflash some other ROM...
what is your modem? Darky's one?
Sounds like your phone is IMEI locked!? Did you buy a used one? May be stolen.

I bought the new one. The problem started after installing voodoo lagfix my IMEI number was gone. I deleted some of the files in /efs folder , installed Darky's 8.0 ROM every thing worked for a while & again there was not data connection.
When i delete the files in /efs folder i can see the Operator Name for some time..
So you did messed up with your EFS? (Which is i think horrible thing to do when not have a backup of EFS)
try to install the modem file from your latest "official" rom (look into samsfirmware.com)
is your imei the same or changed
the only instances ive seen when you cant call or message but can get data is when the imei is blocked
regards
emergency call only

[Q] How to make voice valls over GSM on P7300

I get one Samsung GT-P7300 when I insert SIM card inside I get 3G networks
and everything is OK.
But I can't make or receive Voice calls.
Is there chance to install something or change my ROM to push My Tablet to make normal voice calls, as we can with Galaxy 7(P1000)
Thanks in advanced
from reading a ton of posts in this forum, my impression is that nobody managed to do that so far.
You could always use GrooVe IP with google voice.
At the moment don't believe it can be done. However, you have options such as Viber and others that can do some sort of call.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S II using XDA App
Is there any possibilities in future that ICS may be able to have gsm phone function?
It may depend on if P7300 has gsm voice build-in hardware...
Anybody try to disect the phone apk from galaxy tab 7 and see whats what
I really don't see the need for voice calls on a tablet? Only situation I could think of is in the car when using it as a navigation system?

I believe the hardware is capable of making voice calls because the early test units had this capability. Of course they did have a sdcard also, so it is possible that the radio hardware was also changed. But I believe it's disabled in baseband or our baseband is just missing this functionality.
And i also have a question, are GT8.9 and GT10.1 using the same radio hardware? I believe i have read somewhere that they do, but i can't find this information anymore. If they are, then we could try P7500 KK4 baseband as it is reported that it has made voice calls.
Phone calls
Hey poisike,
I've tried the latest version of your ICS Alpha 1 release for the 3G Tablet, and in fact, i can :
Receive SMS
Send SMS (with a warning "not sent" as you mentionned)
Receive phone calls (with or without headset... it's working)
I can't make phone calls so far. It says "call ended" as soon as I hit the green handset button.
Not sure if it helps the author of this thread, because going to Alpha releases for someone you want to stay in contact might not be a good idea. But i wanted to let Poisike know that his last release was on the right track !
@Poisike : Sorry, i'm new to this forum, so i can't post yet in Android Dev threads
Wow, it's a very good news that ICS Alpha 1 release for the GT8.9 3G version can receive phone calls over GSM. It may mean that make a phone call is doable.
can you share the link of ICS alpha where incoming calls work?

Also just to be clear, it's an Alpha release... So you may have the incoming phone call working, but then be disapointed because Camera is not working or something else.

Good find, thanks! I actually tried it when i built the rom and it didn't work. It is not a priority for me at the moment, so i didn't test it more. Now i realised i had a wrong sim card in so i called the wrong number.
I installed the ROM but nothing not receive calls ... please help ...
I have also done so reset date. no. By calling the number to be fast busy ...
For the rest there are always the same video problems in the rotation. Wifi and 3G are OK. Opening speed OK. I miss GSM calls ... this ROM would be just the TOP with the GSM CALLS!

Are you sure your SIM card can receive call or is it a data only subscription that you have ? Because i can't receive call on my Data only SIM card... only if I put my GSM SIM from my phone
here is how I set it up.
I've the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.6.
-Reboot in recovery
-Wipe menu, wipe all data
-Install Rom from zip + wipe
-Install GoogleApps from zip
Nothing I have followed your instructions. My gtab 8.9 has the following characteristics:
Recovery v.5.1.2.6-CWM (I do not think is a problem to run wipe and install with this version)
I put sim in the phone and then work is also enabled with calls.
Give me a hand please ...

[Q] Lag while receiving calls and SMS issue

Hi everyone, I'm using Stocklite v8 custom rom, I am facing following issues,
1. Even when I have good network coverage (around 59 dBm) there is a huge lag while receiving a call. A caller to my number have to wait for around 20 seconds to receive a call, so sometimes the caller may end the call thinking my number is unreachable.
2. I don't receive SMS many times especially from web (e. g. I have not received SMS in first attempt from google when they wanted to verify my account) . I checked all the settings from my service provider but they said everything is fine.
I logged a complaint to my network provider but they think everything is fine. I even bought new SIM card thinking if the old one is causing problem, but still facing the same issue.
Even before Stocklite I was using Apocalypse rom & I was facing the same issue. So is it Android that causing me the problem?
Plz help me. Thanks in advance.
[1] Did you tweak some clock speeds, coz sometimes in roms they tweak it when your phone sleeps its clock speeds go down like 100mhz then when screen is on its back to full speed. And why do you have to wait 20 seconds??
[2] Try to go to airplane mode and turn it off, reboot. If that didnt solve your problem then apply a pin to your sim card, when i did that i can recieve sms.
Hope this solves your problem

Thanks for the reply.
[1] Yes, I did check some of the clock speed tweaks & Minimum RAM tweak. But unchecked all these tweaks & then tried it but still the problem is persisting.
The problem is that sometimes when people call me they don't hear my caller tune for around 15-20 seconds & able to hear the tune after I receive the call although there is good network strength. So most of the people don't wait for that long thinking my number ain't reachable & end the call. But if they give another try just after the first attempt, they get a reception from me within 5 seconds I hope u got my point now.
[2] I did try that airplane mode trick but seems it's not working for me.
As I already said this issue doesn't occur everytime, but it happens randomly & very frequently. Also sometimes I get duplicate SMSs from my network provider. They checked everything from their end & confirmed that it's not a network related issue.
So, I believe it's my phone which is causing me this problem.

I had installed call recorder once long time ago, but I have already uninstalled it. Other than that I have apps such as hangouts, clean master, google settings etc & rest are multimedia apps, but I don't know if they interfere during calls or not.
I have noticed one thing that the mentioned problem occurs mostly when my phone is in idle state, but it occurs when the screen is ON & when the phone is busy as well. I have already unchecked all the speed tweaks in my phone but still no solution found.

Thanks I actually found out that its the problem with the phone itself. I tried to check on other handset and I didn't face such issues.
But now I am facing another major issue.Whenever I change my sim card and insert it into another phone, my dad receives an sms from number that says my IMEI has been stolen and everyday my phone credits get deducted. I dont know whether i have ever enabled change sim alert option or not but I am unable to find out that option in my stocklite v8 rom.
Please tell me how to disable that option in my phone, I am running out of my credits.

SMS and MMS don't send.

Hello, how are you? I rooted the Note 8 with the SamFailV2.5 files from [ROOT][SNAPDRAGON] SamFAIL for Galaxy Note8[V2]. The phone was a brand new out of the box unlocked SM-N950U1 and I inserted a Verizon network sim card to use the phone on my family plan. I'm able to make and receive phone calls, and receive text messages, but not send SMS or MMS.
I've tried to enter " *#5005*7672# " in the keypad, I've tried " *#*#4636#*#* " as well; one of them tells me "connection problem or invalid MMI code," and the other tries to call that number and I get an automated failed call message. I've been unable to successfully make a new APN. I can "create" a new one, but I'm unable to find it on the list after I "save" it. I tried to switch to 3g only and that made everything worse, I was unable to make or recieve calls or texts on 3g. When I switched back to 4g,3g,2g,auto I had the same problem and had to reset the network connections to be able to make and receive calls and receive text--but still not able to send texts.
I'm not sure what the issue really is, what are your thoughts? One thing that I want to try is to edit the message center number to 316540951000 for verizon, but I don't know how. Is there a console command I can enter to change it? Am I heading in the wrong direction? Please help!
I followed the root directions on post #3 it said:
" VZW Custom CSCFeatures thanks to @louforgiveno
ATT,SPR,TMO re-enabled callerID and spam protect.
DO NOT FLASH CSC IF YOU WANT CUSTOM FEATURES! "
So I didn't flash a Verizon csc. How do I determine which csc to use, or is that not what I need? When I ran Odin PrinceComsy.exe and tried to select the csc I saw the log say it failed and that it was the for wrong model. The other thing I'm confused about is if I need to re-root the phone with nand erase all, or if I can just flash the csc by itself. How do I access the custom features from the root directions: "VZW Custom CSCFeatures" and "DO NOT FLASH CSC IF YOU WANT CUSTOM FEATURES"? Would that have the solution to the problem?
I've gotten a new sim card and rerooted the phone since I posted the question. Calls work fine, 16Mbs download with 7Mbs upload for data, but texts are still a problem. I tried different apps. With the Verizon messaging app I'm able to send mms and sms, but the outgoing texts are delivered 5 to 6 minutes after the send button is pressed. Incoming texts are received in seconds. I can't understand why the Verizon messaging app actually gets messages to go out when default and top rated messenger apps can't, nor why it takes 5 minutes for outgoing texts to be delivered. I'm happy about this progress, but its not completely fixed.
Advanced Signal Status app will not display the advanced menu.
I would like to share that choosing option 2 after dialing *228 will make connection problems worse, it's the reason I had to get a new sim card. After the *228 changes it was impossible to connect to lte networks, calls and texts stopped working aswell. Tier 2 of Verizon tech support told me a new sim card was the only way to restore connectivity.
What information can I provide to help find a solution? Where should I ask for help about this?

I'm having the same issue. Mind if I ask how you got it working or what you ended up doing as a result? Thanks!
