Walkman EQ setting - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just spent hours creating new playlists and transferred all music to Z1. I want to squeeze out best possible sound quality. Please share your EQ setting. I just started playing around with it and haven't found the right setting yet.

EQ Settings highly depend on the speakers/ headphones you use, because every setup is balanced differently.
Just play around with it, as far as audio goes there is no right or wrong, as long as you like the sound!

Hi, I'm an audiophile bro. I suggest you to just leave the eq off. Artists have spent so much time in the studio to create the perfect sound that they want you to hear.

It depends on your taste and music genre, I mostly listen to electronic dance music and setting the bass on 6+ makes that kind of music much better imo.

I'm using Poweramp pro but remember to turn off all the Walkman sound effects first as they sort of compile on top of each other making poweramp harder to setup
and leaving everything to default settings is fine if you are in a studio and using their sound equipment - the EQ setting can compensate for a poor set of earphones or if on a hifi system can alter setting to suit equipment and the room accustics - none of us will have a studio soundstage

ClearAudio+ and Dynamic normalize is the best for me.

Best EQ setting
Hi Sitti,
Squeezing out the best possible sound quality depends on the headphone you are using. If you have got a normal headphone, you need to play around with the EQ to get the best possible sound output. And, if you are using audiophile gear, you may not need to do any settings at all!
I will give you an example :-
I own a Sony Xperia M Dual. The default headphones which comes along with it are quite decent enough, with a dominant bass line. I am kind of an audiophile, I don't like too much bass. So, I have tweaked the EQ settings in the following way to get the best possible sound out of it :
Clear Bass Level : +7
Equalizer (left to right) - -3 +3 +4 -3 +2
Surround Sound - Studio
Clear Stereo - Off
Dynamic Normaliser - On
And, that's all! Trust me, you will love your music. Let me know.

That should definitely squeeze out the best possible sound!
Hi,
Please note that EQ settings are heavily dependent on the headphones you are using. Following EQ settings are according to my audio gear that I use. Believe me, they sound amazing! A bit closer to true audiophile gears!
My device : Sony Xperia M Dual
Headphone : Sony MH410C
EQ settings :
Clear Bass level : +10
Equalizer (left to right) : -4, +4, +4, -3, +3.
Settings :
Surround Sound : Studio
Clear Stereo : Off
Dynamic Normalizer : On
Happy Listening!

Another best EQ setting
Phone : Sony Xperia M Dual
Headphone : Sony MDR E818
Equaliser settings :
Clear Bass : +10
EQ (left to right) : 0 +2 +3 -3 +3
Settings :
Surround : Studio
Clear Stereo : Off
Dynamic Normaliser : On
Enjoy your music!

Well if you REALLY want to get the best possible sound out it I suggest getting the AC!D Sound Engine MOD.
Makes everything sound nice and clear with awesome bass. I have it on my Z1s and couldn't be more happy.

Works Nicely Volume is louder and my bass has more punch, along with the clear audio its just perfect!
If this helps Go ahead and and give me my first Thanks

I use Denon ah-d600 and I listen to metal.. Without any bass...to get enough I put the tru bass to 4.. And when I listen to music with bass in it I turn it down to zero...
Good headphones does not need eq... The equalizer destroys the sound to my ears

Thanks for the response.
If you feel male vocals lack warmth and depth, just increase the 400Hz from (-3) to 0., but not more than that, as it will introduce unnecessary hum.
If you feel too much bass, just decrease the Clear Bass level accordingly.
That should do it.
Try out my other equalizer setting here:

[Q] Low Base - Graphic Equalizer needed?

I'm using JM7, with Tayutama 1.2 and Voodoo 4 beta.
Can anyone tell me why I seem to have lost all base when playing music?
Is there a Graphic Equalizer I can use to turn it back up?
Thanks.
You haven't 'lost all bass' you are hearing the natural music without any distortion.
Voodoo lag-fix removes the infamous EQ filter Samsung enables when you plug in a Head-set.
Use the Samsung EQ if you want to mutilate your music again.
EDIT: The eq is in the music player, press Menu and options, then look for EQ settings.
Erm, I'm not pluging in a headset. Yes I am losing base, but I think it was more on the car stereo side as I've made some adjustments and I have base again.
Thanks.

[Sound][CM/Stock][Audiophil][App] Alsa Mixer Settings, Hardware EQ and News

This Thread is for people wo need a loud phone ore have big headfone's and need basse and volume.
i love good sound :good:
And wolfson have give US nice multi eq
For all this and more you need at first to flash this Download CWM by pengui77
Now finish
You have 2 diference methods
First 1 method
Download the App Alsa Mixer on the app store
How to set ^^
Speaker :
to make louder you can increase when you tap to speaker and can select between 0-63 stock is 53 but if you make more you will have Gain!! because of the speaker.
and you can set more bass when you scroll down to "AIF1DAC1 EQ2" and set to 10-14 you will have better sound but quieter sound level and faster gain!!
if you will it louder but no gain you must set "AIF1DAC1 EQ2" to 6-0
if you will more height then you must set "AIF1DAC1 EQ4" or "AIF1DAC1 EQ5" higher between 13-16
Method 2.
to make louder type terminal this
Code:
alsa_amixer sset "Speaker" "X"
alsa_amixer sget "Speaker" *to look how it is now
X= between 0-63
Bass or hight
Code:
alsa_amixer sset "AIF1DAC1 EQx" "X"
alsa_amixer sget "AIF1DAC1 EQx" *to lock how it is now
x= 1-5/ 1=low 2=midellow 3=midel 4=midelhight 5=hight
X= 0-31 but i recommend between 9-17
Head fon
Headphone.
1 method (app)
Volume is The first button "headphone" and ther is it like voodoo. stock is -12 or -10 db / number 45
you can set so hight you want i take -2 or -1. but set how much you will (but report bugs please )
Now Multi eq
First you must turn on multi eq under AIF1DAC1 EQ klick and write "on" now you can set equalier
AIF1DAC1 EQ1 =low
AIF1DAC1 EQ2 =midellow
AIF1DAC1 EQ3 =midel
AIF1DAC1 EQ4 =midelhight
AIF1DAC1 EQ5 =hight
then set between 0-31 but i recommend 6-18
2 Me..
terminal : Volume
Code:
alsa_amixer sset "Headphone" "X"
alsa_amixer sget "Headphone" *to look how it is now
X= between 0-63 [45=12db]
Multi EQ
Code:
*first alsa_amixer sset "AIF1DAC1 EQ" "on"
alsa_amixer sset "AIF1DAC1 EQx" "X"
alsa_amixer sget "AIF1DAC1 EQx" *to lock how it is now
Same like
up there
I will update, and be always on the latest state and sey you all.
ther are many spelling mistakes pleas dont be hard to me ^^
1st option for Start in Boot
(Only a fast idea )
1 download script manager
2 download my script
3 chose my script
4 set as root and boot
Finish
Profile 1#
Height speaker volume +less gain
Profile 2#
Stock volume but more bass and better sound
I don't have any problem with the CM10 stock max volume but if these libs give a quality amplification of the speaker's sound, I may give it a try.
This is my solution
This is a good solution But I don't like such a big amp :/ and with my 80 ohm headfone is it with this mod loud and sounds good
Really I have a incredible s and the Optimus 2x sounds much better. Better then my ps3 with HiFi amp
But try this mod with your headfone ^^ and say how loud + bass boost ( set to 14 -15 is enough)
Nice thread m8
I have beats, can you post your init.d script for auto loading settings(i am tired of typing that in console every time )
Also i noticed that it revert's to original values after some time of using phone(no restart) didn't catch when that happends yet...
Yes this is the problem now but to set faster download the app.
I will ask a developer to help me maybe as I now pengui is working by I will sey him about to add eq an maybe eq my profile
(Maybe I will test to make aapp but not many time and skils )
To do is :
Set auto setting at boot
And beats is nothing special its just placebo effect.
Problem we could have with speaker eq and headphon eq :/
Is there a way to increase in-call volume using alsa mixer?
Headamp is the best for volume and sound quality for me. It is little bigger in pocket of course but it sounds amazing! And that's the point.
Where do I buy One?
Forget about it...
That headamp solution is very expensive.

@ Nootubo, great we need solution until Pengus make manager(service) for auto start and checking if the settings are active couse they revert to original values sometimes(for me)
@ dorwoo If you where adressing me about headphones,i got them from friend(free)(he doesn't need them) i would never pay 100$ for in ear headphones even i love music :good:
Awsome
Great info. Thx for the heads up. I hope it will give us as good sound quality as Voodoo Sound. Have missed that app so much since I switched to ICS/Jelly Bean. I will wait to try this method until its more 'stable' though.
Awesome!
Wow! I'm generally skeptic to sound mods (eg. I hate beats or acid mods), but this is better than supercurio's voodoo mod! Simply amazing!
On CM10 tonyp's PA build 6 & kowalski kernel 100p3. Have tried increase the headphone output from default (I think it's 45) up to 60 and boy, this mod makes my IEM sound loud. Settled on 55 because on 60 I started hearing that crackling noise. Also tried increasing the speaker output from 53 up to 60, and it worked.
Btw, this mod is also compatible with "direct volume control" of poweramp. Great app & mod!

Unfortunately, it looses all the settings after reboot.
Sent from LG Optimus 2X
It looses for me without reboot, after some time,do you guys that use this mod have same thing?
Put some values and then after some time check settings and you will see they are at default values
Hmm i have no time so i had an fast idea with script manager to set a small script at boot
But no eq for the HP you must set manual and back with the script.
And the bug that the time is shut off is I think still there.
1st site 2 post is the manual off the boot script

[Q] Equalizer settings or Clear Audio+?

Hello everybody,
I just want to know which setting you prefer?
For me Clear Audio sounds pretty good, but what are your opinions?
my headphones (sennheiser cx 400 ii precision) pushes high freqs very strong. So it hurts my ears when using clear audio+
it sounds very well, but is way too loud. I have to use eq instead. sounds well, too! but it is much more quiet...
hope, some cool dev will fix that, so that we will be to use eq in comb. with clear audio:highfive:
For now im sticking with ClearAudio+ as its probably the best auto equalizer ive ever used
It depends on what you listen with and what you listen to.
For more 'modern' music on less high-end headphones ClearAudio+ is probably pretty nice. It widens the stereo and gives both lows and highs some extra push.
However, if you listen to jazzier or classical music and with higher-end equipment things get out of hand pretty quickly with ClearAudio+ (or with any strong equalizer).
VPT Surround on the Studio setting is pretty nice though, I like using that one.
I must be the only one who thinks clear audio isn't that great, its louder than the EQ but it is not very good for bass imo.
I use the eqaulizer with first scale on -10, second scale on -3, third scale on +3 , forth scale on +10 and fifth scale on -10, clear bass on +10 and studio setting on, Thats how I get the best sound for bass which is what I prefer in all my songs.

It's not that great for boosting lows, but it does a great job of leveling the whole spectrum with enchancements, dynamic range compression and virtual surround. I'm not saying it's great and amazing - but as far as auto-equalizers go, this is by far the best one.
But if you have specific needs - like stong low boost - then as R89 said, it might not be the best choice for you.
I prefer Equalizer settings it suonds good on my headphones
plus you can also find many eq settings on xda
I listen to predominantly rock, heavy metal, punk, grunge and the sort for which Clearaudio (as much as I do like it for listening to things like Lana Del Ray) is far to overboard to even try to listen for any length of time without some serious ear bleeding.
That said, I'd take it over HTC's BEATs junk anyday.
What is your opinion on using clearaudio+ for techno music ?? Does it "kill" high frequency sound ? or just lowers it?

[Q] Volume Reduction (Yes, reduction...)

Morning all,
probably not an issue with most people, but often I want to watch some videos, or the highlights in the gallery and I find that the lowest volume is at too high a level.
Is there anyway of overall reducing the system output level without root and/or custom rom? Would appreciate any thoughts to help out
Thanks
Jonny
Turning off beats reduces the volume.
try downloading the equalizer app or any setting app that has the capability of adjusting the volume.
Agreed, the lowest volume is too loud. Will try some EQ apps, Btw is there a toggle for beats audio?
Yes, the toggle is in the top level in the settings, as in not in a sub menu. I did try to disable beats but to my ears it didn't make any difference, or at least not enough.
I thought that equalisers were tied to a particular player app, rather than system wide, but will see if I can find any.

I wasn't talking about the equalizer option of any music player What I mean was the app "Equalizer" from google play

[Q] Faux sound control

Is anybodu also using Faux Sound control?
Up to now I did not have problems with it but now I try to use it for
changing the left-right balance on the headphone speakers.
When using VLC or the built-in music player ypu do not seem to
have control over the balance, I know some other aps like Poweramp
do have this control but I do not like to add another app.
So then I remembered I'm already using the Faux sound control app.
Up to now I was using it for setting up a silent, loud or quality profile.
But with the custom profile you can change all the settings yourself.
So first of all I tried to change the analog g ain controls because I'm using the headphones with the audio jack but this did not help.
So then I changed the Digital gain controls, but when lowering the left or the right channel the result was that both of them went to the lowest volume.
In the sound control app they had a separate setting but in real life they took the lowest of both volumes.
I know I should ask this on Paul Reioux the creator of the app but I cannot find his email or support for his apps.
