Ongoining Google services wake lock - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all

Any tips

Have you tried to see of you are in a similar situations as in this thread? Perhaps you will find a solution, or at least part of it there.
Also your wake counts (~3k omg) for 16hrs are quite insane imho. Why is you HSDPA connection transferring data if you are connected to a wifi?

My phone has more issues. It keeps sending requests for data but is not recieving a thing. Im contacting my operator at the moment.

Disable Google's checkin service
You wouldn't care where I sent this message from.

Download and install Adaway(through F Droid app cause it's banned from Play Store)
Open it and select Menu - Your Lists
Select the plus sign in top right to add an entry(on the "Black" tab for blacklist)
Type in mtalk.google.com
Navigate back to main page of app and select "download and apply"
Reboot phone after it reports back successful

Watch on in notification bar

Ok this is driving me crazy, randomly the app watch on will pop up in my notification bar. I disable it and it will just pop up again at a random time. Does anyone know how to permanently remove? besides freezing it of course

This just started happening to me the other day. I don't understand why because it hasn't done it before. I too disabled the notification and it automatically turns itself back on. I cleared the data and started over but that did not help. I froze the app with tbu a little bit ago because I rarely use it. It is frustrating because that is one of the only Samsung apps that I like. I too would like to know of a fix for it.

holllly cow. I have been battling this for 3 days now. I thought it was just my phone being supper glitchy. I have gone as far as to uninstall the app... witch will stop it from comming up in the notification bar. Then i re download it from play store. After about 4 reboots it comes back. I will set it in the setting to not come on in notification pannel. Boom its back. No way to stop it..... same with a few other apps. Its like they do not close the correct way and do not save the settings. My swannview dvr app is one more that wont save settings because it won't close correctly.
I don't know if this narrows it down but I noticed when I had wifi turned off I never got it but the second I turned it back on it started popping up again.
I have the same problem. This morning, while trying to disable the notification bar setting again, I got nag popup about allowing Watchon to use mobile data or only wifi. I selected the allow mobile data option and do not ask me again. Now, I can't find the setting to change it back to see if that would affect the notification bar problem. I don't want to test all of the settings because I would lose the devices that I have setup. I assume the problem is caused by an update to Watchon. The only thing I have changed recently us switching to Nova Launcher. Could this be related?

Judging by this I would assume it is the location settings that is triggering this. Try to go to system settings > More > Location services > My places > Choose the places and click none. I can't confirm this works, but it seems that this is triggering for the problem. Also note this isn't a great solution; other location services may be affected with this change.
This is caused by the latest WatchOn update.
I use WatchOn since the day I get my S4 Active (2 months ago) and this NEVER HAPPENED before the update.
I had to disable WatchOn with TB.
Another example of Samsung messing up good stuff!

It has nothing to do with location services. All of mine were already set to none, and I have the same problem.

Sorry then, it must have been the WatchON lock screen location settings I was thinking of. No clue, honestly.
So did this ever get worked out? I just got the note 3 and am already seeing this behavior.
SOLUTION!..
Here is how i disabled remote control on notification panel and lock screen.
Its on Watchon Settings.
watch work done
This is what I did:
Settings
More
Application Manger
Samsung WatchOn
Remove the check for "Show Notifications"
This doesn't stop the program from starting on powerup, but it removes it from the notifications.
This is a thread that should be closed. The problem was fixed by an update. I can confirm that it did exist at one time, but the only people that still have thre problem either have not updated or they have not changed their settings.

Not clear enough to provide an exact solution, but there are quite a bit of changes made to how the user is notified with lollipop; All, Priority and None modes. Use your vol up or down key on your homescreen and make sure you chose all, then give it a try!

Only these two steps monitor the notifications. If nothing is happening, try clearing cache from the recovery. If even that doesn't help, a factory reset will do the work.

Are you sure all your sync's are on and you aren't on battery saving mode? Clearing cache wouldn't really help your cause, but in any case once you get to the android guy, tap power+vol up button simultaneously for a second and let go, repeat until you get the menu; it is a bit finicky

any other suggestions other then doing factory reset??

Sending gmail to yourself is not a good test, especially with certain routers which have problems with loop back issues. Have someone else send you an email, outside your network.

I email myself plenty of times from other emails, problem is obviously in something else, definitely not in email sending part.

I did not turn any syncing off and battery mode isn't on...
after doing Factory reset, that solved that.. but unfortunately not for long as a little bit over a week later I came back to exactly same issue AGAIN(((
You could try installing a different launcher see if this somehow kick starts notifications. I use Nova Launcher, you can get an unread count plugin for it which tells you how many missing emails, text messages, what's app messages etc you have. You may not need to install that though just nova launcher, switch to that and then back to Google Now (if you prefer it) then that should hopefully give it a kick.

"My Account needs access to your device's location . . ."

Hi Folks,
I did a search and couldn't locate a reference to this notification message yet, please let me know if it's already been referenced.
Running stock OTA Marshmallow on a non-rooted Nexus 6 with Verizon Wireless and a grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan.
Usually within 30 minutes of rebooting my phone, the following message shows in Notifications, but clicking on it only removes the message and does not actually open any app:
My Account needs access to your device's location, contacts, and phone identity in order to automatically connect you to premium and public hotspots and save your data plan.

I thought it might be the Verizon Mobile app, so I turned off its notifications permissions in App Settings, but that had no effect.
Curious what on my phone is trying to gain this access and which "My Account" is being referenced - any ideas?
EDIT: Answered below - it was the TracFone app.

That sounds like androids device manager. I have never seen it myself but that could be do to not running stock or that I disable the device manager in security/admin.
But it could be that.
Long-click the notification and you'll see what app it is...

Thank you, I did not know that.
Turns out this is coming from the TracFone app, which I had installed to help manage my sister's account. Disabled its notification permissions, so hopefully good to go.

Push notifications still not working for some apps

Hi all.
I am sure this question has been asked again and again.
But I am having troubles with push notifications working for some apps
I.e. Pushbullet, kaokaotalk
They don't work unless i open the app.
WhatsApp and Facebook seem to be working fine.
Anyone have an absolute fix?

Even gmail and Google inbox don't work.
They have been setup as protected apps etc already

Try adding them to the memory whitelist.
Phone manager>system optimization (paintbrush)>settings (gear top right)>memory cleanup whitelist
My understanding is apps in this list will not clear the memory when you "kill" the app. I could be wrong. Please respond to this post if this fixes your problem or not.
Two important settings, under Battery (protected) and under "Apps" (ignore optimization). Also try to put CPU to performance

Solve -> Problem with Pushover notification on lockscreen
my notification did not show on notification and lock screen.
1. Phone manager>system optimization (paintbrush)>settings (gear top right)>memory cleanup whitelist
2. Setting>advanced settings>Battery manager>Power plan> Smart or Performance>
3. Setting>advanced settings>Battery manager>Protected apps> Turn on for Whatsapp and Pushover
4. Clean Master < I think this is the culprit causing problem > Ensure Tools>Notification Cleaner is disable. My was enabled. and it cause notification not to show on the Lock Screen.

I have a note 8, but emui 4.1 is pretty standard across the line. Having the exact same issue. Have tried the PNF, whitelisted google play and whatsapp in the memory whitelist, protected apps, ignore battery optimizations etc.
I can repeat the error. So it seems that it ignores the whitelist like you suspected.
Steps. Clear all apps.
Open quicksync manually sync accounts that i want to show up.
Notifications appear.
Go to app task manager view with the square button, kill app.
Send message. No dice.
Have even tried using the PNF heartbeat fix, but to no effect.
Now i have one odd issue. When i received the device, google play services was already installed, but some how it was in the system folder despite the phone being locked. Not sure if that is an issue, since if anything i would suspect that would be helpful instead of harmful, but i have no way of removing it to test since bootloader is locked , and the play services is persistent over a factory reset.
Anyways, any other solutions i have not thought of would be helpful, huawei makes such nice devices, but if you get stuck on a chinese rom, it can be a nightmare for some.. went through the same headache with mate 7 but managed to solve its notifications issues.

Yes I have tried that. For now I think i will just add my chat clients and aquamail to the locked status on the task manager and keep them open... I have tried all iterations of power saving, etc.. so I think it may just be the build unfortuneately. Hopefully EMUI 5.0 will be a bit less invasive, as they said they are going back to a more stock android vibe to compete in international markets.
Hello, I am in the exact same situation. Did you get some luck?
I updated mine to emui5, but nothing changed.
Do you have a AL10 chinese version? I am thinking that this might be the point.
Thank you.

Delayed notifications after upgrade to Android 8

I have a tmobile note 8 and ever since I upgraded to Android 8, push notifications are coming in delayed and all at once at random times. Take outlook for example, an hour might go by and then all of a sudden dozens of notifications hit all at once. I checked if maybe battery settings were messing with outlook but it is not blocked and my phone is in performance mode. Seems like my phone is going into a deep sleep and not doing push notifications as they come in. Any idea what is happening?
Same thing happened to mind after update. But seems to be resolved now. I think I went into Apps then pressed the three dots in the up right corner and chose reset app preferences. I also messed about in the notification menu somewhat prior to that.

Factory reset. A good practice after a major software update.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 8 using XDA Labs
Disable the GOOGLE app in app manager. It should ask you if you want to go back to the factory app. Just agree to this. This is assuming you checked to make sure Battery Manager wasn't turning off your app or the data saver wasn't killing your app data access. If you have done these things and your app notification is still delayed it is being caused by the GOOGLE app. Listed as "Google" in app manager. Hope this helps someone else.
UPDATE: I should have mentioned for a permanent solution and to allow you to continue using the GOOGLE app you can go to the Google Play Store, find the installed GOOGLE app, click uninstall to revert to the factory GOOGLE app, once uninstalled click the three dots at the top right and Uncheck the Auto Updates to the GOOGLE app. This will allow you to retain the factory app functions and should resolve this notification issue at the same time.
