Nice . .are you in USA?

The pundits have been proven wrong many times before.
Technology pundits are worse than movie critique pundits- much more biased.
I was on the fence about this device initially after reading so many reviews, but I'm so glad that I gave myself a chance to try it out for a few days. I like it so much that I will not return it back to BB but instead keep using it most likely.
I think this watch has a great potential to be a successful product, if Samsung can follow up with some needed software updates.
The hardware is quite acceptable as Samsung has done an admirable job on it.

The best part is that the updates will come straight from Samsung and not delayed through the carriers.

Bought my gear Friday and love it so far. I'm keeping mine.

I like mine too.
I am surprised by the negative reviews. Wondering if they all got a beta sample to test?

I am keeping mine too. Much better than the pebble

Reviewers have become too jaded. They go through so many devices I don't think they can relate to a normal user so much any more

the watch I nicel and looks smart when wearing ,svoice works good ,for me thats ok as some people pay that for a watch and it only tells time .......loving it

Does anyone have them in stock?

Went to local AT&T store for Note 3 + Gear. Got the Note, but the store didn't have any watches.
When I left, I called the one closer to work - they got some today but already sold out. Guess I picked the wrong store. I spend a while calling AT&T & T-Mobile stores around - nada. Even tried BB & RS - no luck there. Tried T-Mobile online, also all sold out.
Is this a real bad roll out, or is someone hoarding all the watches?

Bad Roll out. But Samsung always has these , I wonder if there was any hesitation on Sammys part given the atrocious reviews some people had.
It seemed like people were downright offended by this product.
The only one I have ever seen is the one I own. Never set eyes on one in a store etc? Note 3, yes, the Gear not a whiff? No idea why? Without the Note 3 the Gear is useless at present? Some very odd marketing with Samsung. This is nothing new in this country for this company though.

Cant see Samsung offending too many customers as trying to get the Gear is near impossible at present?

Samsung is being weird.
I think reviewers online and many potential customers were offended by the price. When it was discovered that the notifications were useless for anything other than Messaging/Email sites and there comments were full of bashing. For $300 people expected alot more....or maybe Samsung is getting backlash from iPhone fanboys ??
I dont know but people are bashing the Gear and its price tag everywhere.
Honestly if this was 150$-200$ OR if it worked the way people thought...reviews would be a little better.

If you compare what is on the market at present the Samsung is head and shoulders above the rest in terms of technology, functionality and software. I have said this many times and will write it again IF its fact the gear has a sapphire crystal that would well justify the price. You don't find sapphire crystals on watches costing 300.00€
I have niggles about the gear as well BUT would not dream of purchasing the Sony branded watches nor the others and I collect watches.
The Gear can make and receive calls and sms's that is a major selling point. If I can manage to get S-voice working wi fi free (the manual says it only needs blue tooth) I would be more satisfied as driving the car one need not takes ones eyes of the road to make nor receive calls My doubts lie in other areas like the strap and clasp. having written that there are no better in that regard either?
New technology is always expensive. Wait for the iWatch that will bring iTears to ones eyes. One other point, the price will have dropped like a stone within a few months in any case.

After way too much digging, I finally found one. Best Buy has some little cell stores in the area, but they showed on BB's store search (click item & search stores to see who has it).
At the store, they told me they got 5 the night before & sold 1 before mine. (They got 3 black, 2 white)
Why this little store had them when the full BB's had no clue what I was talking about... I have no idea.
I got mine for 225 amd couldn't be happier. Too bad I have to wait for the note 3 but it works fine with my s 4 just wish I didnt have to go back to this phone. Im gonna see if I download all the samsung stuff on an htc one with stock android if it will work which I highly doubt it will.
This Samsung launch was rather smooth compared to the Apple launch.
My store got one Gear in and it sold fairly quickly. Pretty impressive device.
Just picked a Mocha-colored unit from the local Ann Arbor, MI Bestbuy store. I haven't worn a watch in years and now am wearing one because of Gear! I don't know why some people don't think this watch is nice looking. It looks just fine to me, definitely having the quality and stylish look.
I'm trying it out right now but so far, so good.

Guys, this is a $350 phone. UNLOCKED!

I don't start many opinion threads and I've been on this site a very long time.
However, I've been seeing lot of threads come up for the NEXUS 5, regarding it's QC, and maybe questionable components. So I'll chime in and offer some of my views, for what they're worth and you can go ahead do the same.
In this day and age, a $350 smartphone (Unlocked and with no contract) is a bargain, ESPECIALLY one as capable of the Nexus 5. You guys CANNOT forget that.
This is a device that can easily handle some of the devices costing twice as much. it's a powerhouse with very up to date specs for a price that is very low.
You're getting the latest in processing power as well as graphics. You're getting an excellent screen that's large, VERY bright, very sharp with accurate color reproduction. Yes your contrast might not be as ridiculous as the OLED screens but they both have ups and downs. but come on, you forget all the negatives when you think it's a $350 device. I do atleast.
Me personally, battery life is good for me, but if it's not for you, well again, it's good, not excellent. But if you got this battery life with a $700 device, you'd be upset but at $350...........how upsent can you possible be? not to mention it's one of the very few wireless charging devices with VERY fast charge times.
Camera is Good, not a ground breaker but trust me....it's much better than other sub $350 retail phones. Compared to them, it's a gold mine of a camera.
Not to mention the software...it has the latest and during it's cycle will always be the first to have the latest.
wait....did I mention it's a $350 phone? Think about alll the feature it has at $350....... then see if you complain about the little "button rattle" you have.... which you only discovered because someone else did...... come on now..
It's one helluva a device, and if you take price into account....GOD DAMN, It's a bargain of the decade (Till the next nexus ).
your thoughts?
It's a bargain no doubt. If you don't mind the cut corners in battery, speakers and camera and value latest software very highly then it's the right device for you.

Of course, that's why it's a $350 phone, not a $650 phone
But given the choice of nexus 5 at $350 and a Galaxy s4 at $600.................I just couldn't justify the extra $250 for the GS4...that's me. ..... and I own both lol.
I still think it is pretty crazy what they managed to pack into a $350 phone.
I just think these people are whingers. If they weren't whinging about this, they would have something else to whinge about.
I'm not one to complain. I've just sold my HTC One and bought this. But in the UK and a lot of other countries we are paying $560 for this phone.

It's a great bargain no doubt, it's just that discovering hidden flaws in a product is never pleasant, regardless of the price.
Also they try to make it pass for a no-compromise product, which inevitably sets people up for disappointment. If they just came out and said "hey, this is just a decent phone, not perfect, but the price is amazing guys" then it would be different, expectations would be different I think.
They're the one inviting comparison with $700 devices by marketing it as they do.

Posts like this is what causes contention among people. I think most people understand it's basically a steal for what you get at this price, but when you have people who act like the phone is flawless it's highly annoying. The nexus 5 is a great phone but the battery life definitely isn't one of it's strengths. Battery life is average on this phone, if you think it's great(or great with tweaks) try out other phones and you'd reconsider your definition of great.
I'm assuming the Nexus program was an intention of to show what Google can bring to the platform through software and not hardware.. Well then.. can Google make another program where hardware matters and listen to the community of what they want without cutting corners? I'll pay for that.
I have yet to see anyone acknowledge the feet accomplished by Google. Let's look at the problem space here. We need to build a phone with a good camera. Has latest hardware specs. Performs well with new operating system as it will be a hallmark device for it. Works on major carriers. Has LTE support. Work internationally. Has international LTE support. Supports both gsm and cdma. Oh and let's not forget it needs to be half the cost of all other flagship phones! Come on people there is only one other company that is even comings close to accomplishing such feet's and that xoimi. And for now they are only China based handsets. So let's give some props where props are due. I just got my bad boy today and I am in love with it!

Many of you talk like Google Play supported countries are the only countries in the world. In many countries in Asia the Nexus 5 will cost just as much as the S4 and Htc One. In that case, it is unreasonable to see these issues in such an expensive phone. I may still buy it because of the development but please don't say that there had to be corners cut for the cheap price when in the majority of the world the phone is being sold for the equivalent of other high end phones.

I'm sorry but what do you mean by "they try to make it pass for a no-compromise product"? Who exactly are "they"?
From my understanding, the product was launched WITHOUT any fanfare. It just mysteriously one day popped up on Google Play store.
If by "they", you mean the Tech Media and their "rumors" and leaks..... then yes, that's what they do. but the manufacturer and seller of this product never set any expectations, we set them as consumers from what we were fed by the tech media.

pretty much.
Lastest in processing, graphics, bluetooth, radio chipset, NFC, wireless charging (Very few phones support this), excellent software, a rather well built device, great screen, acceptable battery life, acceptable camera...... and to package it all in a $350 price tag...it's no small feat indeed. I think the more we take THAT into account, we can begin to appreciate the $350 price tag.

unfortunately, there are other economic factors that play into the pricing here when involving other countries that just out of Google's hands. Customs, taxation, economic conditions all play a role in it....... just things that can't be controlled in all cases.

Yes but in my case it is completely reasonable for me to moan about low QC, battery, speakers, and camera when I paid full price. Of course I won't be doing that because the nexus 5 is awesome for the most part.

It's not only hardware. It's also this f****** closed source cpu drivers with Samsung, (exynos), the considerable delay to have version updates with correct sources and so on. A lot of major companies tend to turn like Apple. (See Knox, region simlock and so on)
Google is not a charity foundation neither, but at least our devs have less pain to bring us good roms.
Yeah 350 for you guys in the states, I got mine at 520 in asia
Life is not fair
12 hours usage so far today, battery is at 73%. Spent about an hour streaming music over wifi at the gym. About 1 hour of sporadic screen on time. Pretty happy with the battery.
What people forget is that when they get a new phone they tend to spend much more time than usual installing new apps, testing things out. The battery ran out on me and I started to agree with you all... until i realised i had installed 80 apps and played 3 different games for 4 hours of screen on time. (add on top of this all the stuff going on in the back ground setting things up).
Its a nexus device I guess aim toward developer so they can build better apps and stuff. The regular Betty and Nancy can love along lol

Anyone returning?

After hearing today that the galaxy gear 2 will be released in March/April, I was thinking of returning my original gear... I got it as a gift for Christmas and have until Jan 15th to return it. I have a feeling the next one will be a lot better and don't want to be stuck with one that I can't sell for half the retail in March... Anyone have an opinion on this or thinking the same way? Just curious... Thanks.
I would not count on the next-generation coming out that quickly. Watch the CES news this week and you will see that Samsung did not announce anything, and if it is only 2 to 3 months away, why wouldn't they have?

If I had the receipt, I would return it! I got it for xmas from my parents. I'm almost certain they paid the full $300 price too. I'm not going to ask my parents to return, or exchange it though. I believe it's the thought that counts when it comes to gifts. My parents hit a home run when it came to picking this out for me. Everyone says "That watch is definitely me" because of my passion for technology and android. But in my opinion this device isn't worth the money spent on it now. I'm not going to rant negative comments about it. But thing about this. The price has drastically dropped since it was just released last year. Imagine how much it will drop when the next version comes out in a couple of months! This thing won't be worth a darn.

It was announced today by a high samsung executive. Google it. It's all over the internet. They said that the s5 and gear 2 would be announced and released like the s4 was last year. The s4 wasn't released at the CES last year either... that's how they roll with the s series.

I got mine for $150 so I can't complain. If the new one comes out, I'll definitely sell it and get the newer version. Although I am extremely content with this.
absolutely no need to return it. we are months away from the potential release and we don't know any details yet. when it's out i'll see the differences and then decide if it's worth upgrade. somehow i have a feeling that they will remove the camera this time..
I know once the new one comes out and the price for the original drops I'll actually buy it. I've wanted one to go with seanzscreams sky note air n3 rom for the note 2 for a few now but I'm not spending 250-300 on a watch with limited functionality and support. Once it is in the 150-200 range then it'll be worth it for a lot of people.
Did you thank your Developer today?
I have until the 17th to return mine and I think I will. After reading that the gg2 will have lots of extra features and be slimmed down its a no brainer for me.

Not planning on it. Nothing wrong with my Gear so far, and I keep saying that if my G1 still worked I'd still be using it.
Keeping mine also. With null and my note 2 on n3bula I see no reason to return. Just like I'm passing on the note 3. Maybe I'll jump at third generation and note 4. But I look at it this way. There's always going to be the next hot toy. One after another. With all the devs and their amazing work I'm very content to skip a generation. ..

I for one would be HIGHLY pissed off if Sammy came out with a Gear 2 without fulling developing the Gear 1. The Gear at it present state is nothing more than a beta product needing a lot of something else. If this is all it's going to be, I'm gonna be disappointed.
i bought it 2-3 weeks ago and have 30 days to return it. i am going to keep it. it is more than i expected from Round 1 and with NULL and now the Add On Mod i feel it was worth the $300. heck a cheap Fossil costs more than $100 just to tell you the time.
i also would LOVE for the Gear 2 to be released next month or July or asap. if its better i will buy it and sell the Gear 1.
i do not and will not get upset about buying anything electronic for like $300 and then a newer model comes out. its pointless anger and is going to happen whether i like it or not.
bring on G2
Return it.
Sit and wait.
Maybe the gear 2 is available in april.
Then sit and wait until August because it will maybe released a gear 2s.
Then wait 3-4 months for the gear 3.
Have fun waiting for everything fun in life.
Seriously. If you got one and thinking of returning it just to wait for the next generation then I think the gear 2 want live up to your expectations regarding new features.
But we Norwegians don't wait for next version because it dont kost more than filling up the car with gas 2 times.
We change phones very often, but I have to say that there isn't much difference to day when you're using 3rd party launchers and apps.
It's like getting the old phone in slightly different case with little more speed.
The only difference in new phones is that some 3rd party features are adapted into standard, but you already had it on the old phone.
The price in Norway are 390 dollar.
Maybe you can sell it here.

It's a great device. I could see them putting in some kind of a heart monitor, or GPS, maybe a front facing camera? But I don't think you're going to get to radical with it. I'm not sure that they will put in wifi, that will chew up too much battery.
My biggest gripe with this is that it's somewhat heavy, and by the end of the day I do get a little numbness with it on the inside my wrist. Getting something that's a little later would definitely improved comfort.
So my last comment on this is that this is about evolutionary, or revolutionary. And I think the gear 1 is revolutionary! Apple probably going to put out the same crap with the same functionality and charge $500 for it. Gear2 will be evolutionary, with little improvements. Not major. Bigger Change will come in a year or two years, just my 2 cents.

I read a couple unreliable sources that suggest this so I have no proof this is actually happening. Assuming this does happen, what do you guys think of this?

I'll think about it when it's more than an unsubstantiated tidbit posted by a single website phishing for click-throughs.
The chances of Tizen coming to Gear 1 are a hovering around the Zero mark. There's no reason for Samsung to develop another OS for it as far as I can see.

It's got a good chance considering this watch was only released little more than 6 months ago.
Samsung products always get at least one major update.
Especially when you consider the price of this thing ($299), people would be pissed to the point of boycotting and cause a HUGE PR Stink that would DESTROY Samsung's Smart Watch market before it's begun if they discontinue support in under 6 months.
What a joke that'd be. lmao

Hoping you are correct. What you wrote makes great sense. Getting Gear 2 and my son gets the Galaxy Gear, so would be great if he got Tizen and many more app choices down the road.

Does anyone know the current Note 5 sales figures / volume / number?

The closest thing I could find is a comparison of its sales compared to the Note 6+ Edge but no concrete numbers.
I wonder if Samsung is keeping silent on the numbers because sales are disappointing?
If sales were record-breaking, I'm sure they would market it and love to throw it in Apple's face.
I'd like to know, too. the new iPhone sales and availability has been crazy than what I remember with the Note5 after release.

I have heard the Note 5 sales were hurt because they did not offer it in Europe (yet).

Why was it not offered in Europe?

We may never know the real reasons. Officially, it was said Europeans are not that fond of a stylus and they would prefer the Edge+. I do remember, after a rather modest commercial start, the first Note got its success in great part from the European market.
When Apple finally announces a stylus for their iPad after explaining it was useless and after adopting the Note format they said was not a niche, I simply don't understand the strategy of Samsung.
However, rumors meet for an European version very soon.

Samsung needs some confidence and direction. Stop trying to copy Apple. Apple sucks.

As a European resident i'd find it more likely we don't want to be fooled be Samsung in giving us an inferior Note.
Just look at the previous iterations. Especially the 1, 2 and 3. They were by FAR the best/fastest/most loaded smartphones out at the time.
The current Note 5 is just an S6 edge plus with a pen (and acompaniing apps).
And im (as a note fan) completly disgusted by this...
Obviously if you don't like the note 5, then don't buy it. No need to be 'disgusted'.
It is just a phone...

As some one who actually owns the phone, it's night and day faster than my Note 4.
The fact the edge plus and note 5 are very similar disgusts you? I need your life if that's all it takes to disgust you.
Some of you guys need to think more like consumers and less like scorned fanboys expecting special treatment because once you defended the honor of TouchWiz in a comment thread of and apple product.
Also how is Samsung trying to be like apple?
There was mention that sales were hurting because they opted to not offer the note 5 in Europe. What is being ignored is while they are missing out on sales in Europe, they are also not paying to manufacture, advertise, and ship to Europe. So looking at units sold compared to last year and not actually looking at the bottom line is kind of short sighted and looks to be bias confirmation for some people.
Not saying sales will be better but for the sake of discussion look at the whole picture.

Wow, you make assumptions like you're a pro. Too bad they're wrong.
It's disgusting that their flagship line of products are now the same as the mass-consumer product.
But i understand if you don't get it tho. Understanding what people mean can be hard sometimes.

Lol so you are telling me that the Galaxy S6 isn't a flagship but a "mass-consumer product"? And it disgusts you that they used the same internals in the Note. LOL here we go..
First, before the Note Series existed, the S series was and is the defacto "flagship for Samsung". Keep in mind the Note started as a very niche product never intended to reach the number of sales that their flagship S Series did.
Do yourself a favor and search "Samsung flag ship" in google.. better yet let me do it for you:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Samsung+Flag+Ship
Please tell me what device occupies the majority of those results. I know this is simple but Im sure its more logic than you put into your response as an over privileged consumer elitist that can't be bothered with less than "flagship" quality..
Now that we have defined loosely what a "flagship" device is lets look at your reason for disgust. You're mad because a publicly traded company decided to save some money by not designing a whole new chipset and used one that exists and works. Not to mention that same disgustingly mediocre chip set is night and day faster than the last Note and killing it with a smaller battery.. Everything is faster, every, thing.. Some people will never be happy and swear the internet was created to gripe about the smallest things..
Also yes it is very hard to understand someone that attempts to articulate their confirmatory bias with ambiguous hype terms like "flagship" and "mass-consumer product". The hilarious thing is you think those two terms are not homogeneous in this use case.. :good:

That's a good point indeed. May be they should save even more bucks by not paying to manufacture, advertise, and ship to the whole world.
I love music and books with a long commute to and from work when I want media on my phone.
I could live with a fixed battery but microSD is a must. I know other real users in a similar situation and it is with sadness that the Samsung phones can no longer meet my needs.
At the launch event a statement was made that Samsung listened to their users....... I have to question that statement.
I hope the next phones reintroduce SD support if I can wait that long........

Just flew 6 hours from California to Maryland. Didn't have an issue storing enough music/podcasts on my device. Barely listened to half of it. A commute longer than that?

The point is that people take Pictures and Videos. Over time, that takes up more and more storage, especially with quality and megapixels going up.
I have 60gb just in pictures and videos from the past 4+years. Just because people get new phones every 2 years doesn't mean they delete their old photo albums and start fresh. All those old memories pile up..
32gb on a phone isn't going to cut it. And I don't want to delete my old memories or upload them to the cloud and have to pay a monthly fee just to access them when I can buy a 128gb micro SD card for $45. Plus, I don't have to worry about having a solid LTE Signal. Plus, I can access a memory card in places where I get no service at all, like on a cruise ship or in a foreign country.
I need a swappable battery. I'm at Disney World and almost every here is walking around with their phones shackled to an external battery charger. It's so much easier to just carry a thin spare. It takes <30 seconds to swap and go from 0% to 100%.
Ok. You need those things, so you will need to buy a different phone...
Not everyone has the same needs, and samsung isn't designing the phone to meet everyone's needs - they are designing it to meet what they think the majority needs are and will sell.
It ok get a different phone. That's why they make different phones...
Is like being mad that you can only fit 5 people in a sedan, because got need to fit 7...
