Availability Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 General

Hey now,
As a citizen of a country called Belgium, i have found it very difficult to purchase the Nexus devices. I wonder what your experience has been on the previous nexus devices, and where you traveled to to get one. I myself went to Denmark to search over 4 different provider stores to finally get one without a contract.

I live in Hungary, so no Play Store devices for me as well. Here, I could get it from bigger stores like Media Markt or buy it from the provider for a really high price. Either way, it's more expensive than buying directly from Google.

Media Mart in Germany was selling for only an additional 50 euro, so perhaps worth the trip?

Might worth a trip. My only concern would be the warranty. I always take care of my phones, but if something happens, I guess I would have to send it back to Germany for instance.

Where I come from, while Nexus devices are available, but the release date varies a lot.
Nexus S was released about 7 months after US.
No clue about Galaxy Nexus, didn't follow the news.
Nexus 7 was released like 8 months after US.
Nexus 4 was released like 3 months after US.
And the price is just insane. I mean, when Nexus 4 came out, it was priced about $550 for the 16GB unlocked (off-contract) version if I convert it to USD.
Nonetheless, I'm hoping the Nexus 5, which is to be released by LG. follow suit with the Nexus 4. I think 2-3 months is an "okay" time range. 7-8 months? Hell no.

I live in Belgium too and for my mobile I go in Germany (Aachen-Aix la Chapelle) which is 30 minutes from my place. It's cheaper then Belgium and the mobile are unlocked. For example for my GS3 it was 100euros cheaper in Germany.
For my future Nexus 5 I will go there.

I had to order the Nexus 4 via eBay from the UK. I even had to use forward2me service because the seller couldn't deliver to my address. Heck, I paid about $620 in total, but it was well worth it! I got it like 2 weeks after the release. I live in Latvia by the way.
I just hope Nexus 5 won't have stock problems like it was with Nexus 4.

I'm from belgium too.
I'm wondering about the warenty.
Do we have to go back to germany for this warenty?
I really want to buy the nexus 5

I hope it's available from Amazon.com or similar. Then I'm gonna import it from the US and although there's gonna be taxes and stuff, the price is gonna be like $650. Still cheaper than bying say a SGS4 here, it costs more than $900.

I'll wait until it's available on ibood.com. Nexus 4 were sold there on several occasions.
I may also ask friend from UK to get me one when it's available at UK play store.

You think that's insane? Media Market, in Portugal, is selling it (right now) for ~683$
Thats f insane.

I found no problem of buying it in England for 160 pounds new boxed but receipe on a third person so warranty not void. Flashed a custom kernel after 2 weeks anyway, as overheating issues was killing me and the battery as well. In poland U can get it with 24months of warranty for 250 pounds no problem on auctions.

You can buy the Nexus 5 for 399 euros on coolblue (dot) be , you can also buy the Nexus 4 there and the Nexus 7.
Hope I helped you in time.

Thank you for the information, however I still find it outrageous to sell a 16GB version for 399 EUR about 539 USD, when the google play store price is 345 USD.
I am also living currently in Belgium and find the best prices to be on amazon.de or amazon.fr, depending on the products. The warranty is generally as good as when buying through a physical store and the price difference compared to other stores like Media Markt / Fnac or / Vandenborre is usually at least 100 EUR cheaper.
Lets hope that Google stops with this nonsense and starts selling in other EU countries too and while their at it they can also include a micro sd card slot in their future Nexus devices

First of all, $345 is not a real price, as you forget to add sales tax.
Second thing, you can blame silly european governments that imposed 21% VAT.

Disappointed with pricing outside google play

You may or may not have heard about this but if you live in a country where purchasing devices from google play isn't available(which is like 98% of the countries),you will have to pay a whopping 549 euros for the 16gb nexus 4(that's the pricing in Austria, dunno about the rest of the world but it will most likely be the same).I will actually have to pay more than double the original price of a phone that got 16gb non expandable storage. And if I bought it online,I will have to sacrifice local warranty. It just looks like google is doing their best to force me not to get their nexus devices. There's just a big hype about how cheap the nexus 4 is with cutting-edge hardware ignoring the fact that only people living in certain countries can get it for that price. Why can't google be fair ? Guess I might end up getting Gnote 2,at least it got a micro SD slot.
Wow. This sucks. Nice find! For that price, I'd definitely go for a Note II!
(My cousin is in the states so he'll order it for me and send it here to India through my uncle's shipping company - Win win for me!)

i am personally ready to be robbed by those retail stores. it sucks but then the price tag wasn't the deciding factor.
Maybe see if someone from another country can buy it from the play store and have them mail it to you? Providing the shipping cost is realistic?
I'll get one from Germany too.
If anyone wants to order for me send me a PM.
I am screwed, since I live in the Netherlands. No Playstore here. Hopefully the online shops will sell against Playstore prices, or less Sucks I can't order from European Playstores btw, so much for European 'shop integration'.
Yep, I can't but devices from the play store here either.... :/ just hope its at a reasonable price or else I'll have to ask someone to buy for me... its not there on expansys yet either

But I have doubts this will really happen. That would be pretty stupid of Google. Look at the price if the nexus tablet. That's also pretty cheap for what it has to offer.

I completely agree, I live in Chile and the carriers here are just thieves, the galaxy nexus retails here for around 750 USD contract free.
Gladly my brother is going to USA on december and he might get one N4 for me there at a normal price.
Does anyone knows if you can buy a nexus product online? Becouse whenever I try to go to the website says its restricted to my country, I dont know if its possible to shop online outside the US. I wouldnt care not having warranty if I pay 300 box.

I think that Google is selling the product below the MSRP because they expect people to post some of those saved euros into producst on the store.
It's 549€ here as well, and also in Sweden as far as i know.
Thank goodness my girlfriend lives in Germany.
It would be awesome if some XDA peeps located in Europe and have access to Playstores could help out their fellow European members

Nexus 4: The Australian Thread

Hey Guys!
So the Nexus 4 has been released upon the masses with the first batch of the 16GB being sold out in 22 minutes and the 8GB being sold out a few hours later.
This thread will be a general area for Australian owners and potential owners to hang out, ask questions, get advice and get help quickly and within your time zone.
If anyone helps you or offers you advice don't forget to hit the ":good: Thanks" button in the bottom left corner of their post!
Please let me know if there's any important Australian specific information and I will put it here in the OP!
I'm buying one as soon as we are able to on the 13th. I purchased a nexus 7 on release day from the Google play store and received it 3 days after the funds were taken out of my bank account.
Generally they're pretty good with postage. I wouldn't trade my nexus 7 for anything!

Same here, really hope that it is going to be released 12am on the 13th which means we will may - if they start shipping that day - have our orders start to be processed before the US even has the option to order hehe..
That is provided they do something similar to the Nexus 7 launch but in a more organised manner. Which I believe is the case.
(ie. Send large amounts of stock to each country that is selling it, wait for them all to get to respective countries, open orders, all send on the same day worldwide.)
I'm getting 16gb model a few days after launch (pay day)
Do they come from an Australian retailer or do our orders get shipped from the US?
My SGS2 has been good to me. My girlfriend will love it! I just can't pass up paying $399 outright for a phone that on paper, is probably the best on the market? You couldn't pay less than $400 for any other phone on our market could you?

Someone in one of the other threads said that this will lauch with a bumper case for the nexus 4
I'm totally buying on the 13th, it just annoys me that I have to pay $40 more than in Canada, considering I've only been here for 2 months... WHY COULDN'T THEY RELEASE IT WITH THE NEXUS 7?!
I'm looking at upgrading from my Galaxy S1 to the Nexus 4 when it comes out. I really don't mind the lack of LTE since I'm on TPG (who don't give access to LTE anyway). I'm pretty sure they do give access to Optus HSPA+ though, which should give me a speed bump from my S1 anyhow.
The only thing I am unsure about is using the Nexus 4 as my main music player, which is one of the main things I use my S1 for, apart from the usual phone and mapping stuff. Registering (through an American proxy) for Google Music and uploading all my music seems like the easiest method of doing this, but I am worried whether all the music streaming I would do would chew through my 1.5GB data allowance per month. Can anyone speak to their experience with music streaming with their monthly data allowance? Any better methods than Google Music in Australia? I've tried Spotify and found they didn't really have all the music I would like to listen to, and their app was still Gingerbread styled... ew.
Another (minor) problem is travelling overseas and having music. Data is too costly if travelling, so I suppose I would be stuck using my S1 while travelling, which I would probably keep as a backup phone anyhow.
I'm going to get this in store rather than on the Play Store since I can't convince my parents to shop online so I'm hoping that JB Hi-Fi will sell this by the end of the month (Does anyone know if it will be in stores next week at all?). Otherwise, can anyone name any stores in Melbourne or Sydney that has a possibility of selling this?

It's not Google. Its Asus that is selling the device in India. And for some reason they think they can charge whatever they want in India and get away with it. Shame. They could have made this the best selling Tablet here and did well for them selves.

$170 in Taxes and duty?????
If that was the case then no one would be doing business in India
iPAD2 WiFi 16 GB BLK - Rs 24,500 (India price) Thats $462
In the US iPAD2 WiFi 16 GB BLK is $399 Rs.21,147
3,500 in mark up (including dutys and taxes is OK
It has nothing to do with taxes. even if that was the case they would still benefit from bulk import prices and get a better deal on duty.
This is just them taking advantage of the situation.

I understand our condition.
I am also very much disappointed.
Its too much.do not why asus wants to disrupt its sales in India.
I was going to buy 8gb model.
But its too overpriced.
Best option is too import from other countries.
And please do not make these kind of threads already there are hell lot of them.
It's the same here in Istanbul, and it's because of taxes more than anything. We get raped in prices for just about everything - a 750ml bottle of Jack Daniels will run you around $60 here. Also, I've seen the Nexus 7 (8Gb) sell for around $400.
Don't even get me started on the Apple stuff. Because there is no official Apple Store here, they sell for three times the price. Thankfully I don't use those horrid devices, but people who do are screwed.

O2 listing the N5 for just £549.99....

O2 apparently have the network exclusive on the N5 32Gb in the UK, but they're selling it at a £210 markup!
Crazy that Google are allowing this!

We can only hope that anyone buying a SIM free N5 knows what the RRP is from Google (it's in stock on the Play store anyway) and won't be drawn in by this ridiculous pricing that's floating around on O2 and eBay!
Im on their 'Refresh' plan was thinking of upgrading even though i only just got my HTC One in August.
Then i saw this!
£32 on 3G.
£12 for the tariff
£20 for the phone
32x24 = 768 plus one of fee of 49.99
£818 over 2 years
It's ridiculous. I was tempted to get a Nexus 5 from Carphone Warehouse until I found out that they only have 16GB edition. O2 have exclusivity on the 32GB and this allows them to get away with jacking up the price waaay up. Bad O2, very bad.

So quite possible it will be available via amazon.co.uk. I'm gonna wait and see and if so buy via amazon as I think I then will have better customer service should I need to return it if its faulty. I checked ebay last night and there are BIN listings for > £400 for the 16Gb that have sold Nexus 5's in the UK.
The play store has all models in stock, shipped within a week!!!
I'm tempted to purchase 10 of each from Google and chuck them on ebay!

I ordered two with the intent of doing this, but availability is so much better than the N4 with it being sold in almost every UK phone outlet.
I think the eBay sales are coming from countries where it isn't available just yet and the hassle of sending there is never worth it for me.

Nexus 5 petition to Google

https://www.change.org/petitions/go...google-play-countries-with-a-reasonable-price
For those of you who feel bad for not being able to buy a nexus 5 because you don't love in a Google play country.
I made this petition because it is unfair to us who have no access to Google play devices, we have to pay a hefty price for the n5, in brazil a 16gb n5 costs $1000.

Isn't the price spike due to imports fees and taxes.
IIRC the iPhone 5s is well over 1k in Brazil due to the same thing of taxes and import fees.

DAYYM :crying: How much does an iPhone 5c cost?
There are many legal reasons this is not possible. Get your 66 signatures, but it's not going to change laws.

Your location says New York. Tariffs in other countries is simply a fact of life, which obviously isn't 'fair'. Tell your leaders.
Use a forwarding courier.
I bought N7 and N5 from PlayStore and forwarded it to me.

Lol, 399€ for 32GB here.

Google Nexus 5 is exclusively distributed by a single carrier in my country. And I don't like them. They're offering a 16GB model without a contract for $506.02.
If you want a 32GB model, the gray market wants $512.31 but no LTE support for the carrier I'm subscribed to.
Talk about import taxes...
Well the taxes are a factor but not the main one! Here in Italy we have a lot of taxes and Google decided to open the Play Devices in every case! Today i noticed that i bought the Nexus 5 White 16 GB the price is 359 € (with shipping costs) and there were almost 65 € of taxes! O_O then yes taxes are a reason that the Play Devices is not open in some countries but i think that there are some other factors!

There are nearly no taxes here in Hong Kong. But Google did not sell any devices until 19 Nov. Before that n4 and n5 are sold by LG which is way more expensive than Google. I got my n5 from a store. It is sold by LG and cost me ~$500 for 16GB. It costs ~$410 on Google Play and ~$460 for 32GB.
You know Google doesn't owe you ****.
It's not your god given right to buy a nexus at an affordable price, especially if they don't sell it in your country officially.
If you can't buy one officially, it sucks to be you.
If Google did actually sell their products in your country, well that's a different story altogether.
Why aren't they selling stuff in your country?
Well you actually didn't say.
You didn't provide any information other than some whining.
If you do want to make a petition thread, then do some hard research, outline the processes in play and be persuasive.
Do this before you make this kind of thread and you'll have more sympathetic ears - or at least a better discussion that actually gets noticed.
Otherwise, stop posting these useless, poorly written threads.

Why are you so harsh? So you're saying thay i have no right to buy a nexus 5 with a low price tag while you do? Lol, the main selling point of nexus devices is its price other than that I'd rather buy gpe devices
You could say that because you live in a Google play country thus you don't feel what we feel, if you did you'd understand how annoying it is.. Especially we, developers in non google play countries, have to pay a large sum

I thought the Google Playstore wouldn't come to Hong Kong. It did this year on Nov 20. It will eventually arrive in your country. You are in New York right?
Just get it from an online store as I did? Saved 300...

It's because of the taxes in your country. Blame your government not Google. Take the PS4 for example -
Now, Sony's announced the cost of the PS4 in Brazil and it's somehow an even bigger figure. Brazilians will have to pay 3,999 Brazilian Real, which is the equivalent of $1850 USD.
The increased costs are due to import fees and taxes

The PS4 is $399.99 after all your countries import fees and taxes that's a $1450 markup just from taxes and import duties charged by your country. If you don't like it buy it somewhere else and have it shipped to you by another company that wont force you to pay the taxes.
@Darkendvoid88 I totally agree. If you're in a country where electronics are really expensive its better off getting one over seas and shipped back to you. So you won't have to spend so much money.
But $1850 USD is crazy.. You could buy like 4 ps4s

90% percent of you don't know what you are talking about even if this has been pointed out already in the past.
The nexus 5 is made by LG and is subsidized by Google where the play store is available for making phone purchases.
Where it isn't available, like in my country, it is being sold by and imported by LG which makes the phone 90eur more expensive. Being in an EU country intra EU taxes don't exist and only the difference in VAT taxes are applicable. Regardless the price is higher not because of taxes but because of profit.
In other countries where neither Google nor LG sell it, the price is higher because no one can tell the importer what prices to apply. So, if there is demand the price is as high as the monopoly governs. Of course there are taxes but excepting Brazil and the ps4 debacle there are few in these extreme situations.
So what the OP wants is that Google expand their Play services to his country to level out the price of his next Nexus phone to a product with taxes and transport and with minimum PROFIT! Not like LG in my country that is charging 90eur more for a phone which sells in Germany carrying the exact same taxes.

You know that by buying it overseas or from anywhere outside the country implies adding the same exact import taxes because you are in fact importing.
You cannot bypass import taxes that is why Sony, the official manufacturer and importer for Brazil, is forced to sell it in Brazil at that price. Sony is making the exact same profit as it does in other countries.
If it were another importer, not Sony, then you could have blamed the company for abuse by selling it with a high margin and import it yourself.
