[Q] Verizon LG G2 Flashed TWRP using flashify, can't get into recovery? - Verizon LG G2

Hi All-
I spent several hours trying to get ADB to work on my Verizon LG G2, nothing worked (device not connected error). So I flashed the latest TWRP for the Verizon LG G2 from the Android Development section using Flashify. I can get into recovery using an app, but I can't manually get into recovery using the rear buttons. I power off, hold the power and volume down buttons..then when LG comes up I hold them again and the phone just reboots. I have tried this a thousand ways, and I can't manually get into recovery (which scares me). It seems everyone else is able to do this, maybe do I need to reflash recovery using the ADB method if I can get it to work? I can get into it now through the OS and make backups, I am just worried I will flash a rom and NOT be able to do that. Any ideas what I can do to manually get in?
Thanks-
Sean

I'm on my phone now but had the same problem.
Flashify was the culprit.
Change computers and find the thread asking for a video of how to install TWRP. I followed the instructions and it worked.

Try holding volume down + power
Immediately when LG appears let go of both and ONLY hold onto power, should boot into option to factory reset
Hit power button 3 times to continue, then itll load twrp
let me know if this works.

Thanks!
Thank you illyfilly and bodom_hc. Bodom_hc's method worked. I know others must be having this same issue/maybe someone should post it up somewhere. I really apprecaite the time you both took out to reply to me. Now I can flash rom's like I have for every other device. Much appreciated, thank you!

Flash Recovery, not Boot.

Thank you for this! I was having the same problem. I have to admit, I panicked a little when it said it was proceeding with the factory hard reset, but then the recovery screen came up. Phew!
Thanks again.

Thank you let the crack flashing continue
Was stuck in boot loop could not get into recovery.

I was having a similar issue - tried to flash TWRP using flashify and got to a point where I could load into my ROM fine, but nothing I tried would get me into recovery mode - the phone would just show a couple lines of text and then a black screen. Fortunately I still had adb access and used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670 (along with youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZSjL6FCyxA).
Using this stuff I was finally able to flash TWRP 2.6.3.1, and from there I had a stable recovery to work with. 2.6.3.2 and 2.6.3.3 did not work for me when trying to flash with Loki, but 2.6.3.1 did. Not sure what the deal was there, but I was probably doing something dumb.

Can anyone quadruple confirm that doing this does NOT erase all user data/settings and factory reset the G2? I'm honestly too scared to do this as I can't do a nandroid backup without TWRP... Thank so much!

Thanks! I ended up downloading FreeGee from the Play store & flashing TWRP the way. Worked and booted into recovery. Still seems weird to me that flashify would make you go to the permanent reset function and say yes.

That's how it works with a locked boatloader. Pretty common.

Thank you

I thought i sh*t bricked my phone and pants. FreeGee soothed my soul.

Flashify
I tried Flashify and it didn't work...It didn't flash the recovery img i selected that was placed on the sdcard. I saw a post about FreeGee on the first couple of pages of this thread and gave it a try. I was very happy that it worked on the first try...

Freegee worked great for me also. Flashify did not.

3.41 bootloader info from google support

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

I wonder why some on 3.41 can't go straight to twrp and some can. Sorry for the ahole comment I thought you were trying to be a smartass towards me. I'm just trying to find out as much info from people before I root. I am experienced at flashing and a little adb but I just read a lot of HELP BRICKED MY NEXUS posts. Did you use wugs toolkit or adb to unlock and root?

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

Well if I was you I'd just use mskips toolkit, its absolutely epic it'll save you a lot of farting around. I take it that your fully updated? ( Not that it matters) You seem to know and understand your way around adb so just go for it and enjoy.
Its works smooth as silk and save you a lot off time. The options available to you are just staggering!

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

Ohh crap I read about that in some thread. Any idea exactly what has to be done. The only way I can get into cwm is with ROM toolbox but I have to reflash cwm every time then hit boot into recovery.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

Not sure what the heck happened but I went to reboot into recovery mode and got the fastboot mode started and udc start message in the upper left corner. I connected my phone to my laptop and a bunch more text popped up with the last saying fastboot processing commands.
What the heck do I do now??

Tried that and now i am stuck at the LG boot screen. No matter what button combo i press it just goes to that screen. I can't even get into download mode.
What app did you use to try and update the recovery? All you had to do was flash the zip in recovery to update it.

Yeah its really screwed something up.
? If you can't into recovery or download mode, the only thing I can suggest is maybe sending it in to the LG service center. If it goes into fastboot they can fix it probably. Sorry I don't know what else that might help.
I called verizon and gave them a sob story, they're overnighting me a refurb!! Guess I'll take that vs a bricked phone haha.
@mpetruzz Lol. Yeah, as long as they don't somehow get it into recovery and see it was rooted you'll be fine.
And don't listen to that friend next time. Lol Root it, use Auto-Rec to get TWRP 2.7 on there, then PM me for links if you can't find dr87's custom TWRP 2.7.1

[Q] Help regarding TWRP

I know I will probably son't like a complete idiot here. But, I have used Odin3 to root my phone and it worked perfectly. I tried Odin3 to install TWRP and it seems as if everything goes smooth. When I try and access TWRP by holding down the Volume Down, Power, and Home buttons I always end up at the original recovery screen where I push volume up and enter download mode.
I know it's something stupid that I'm doing wrong, but if you could please point me in the right direction I would really really appreciate it.
Thanks guys!

With TWRP installed, from power off, you volume-UP, Home, and Power to enter recovery, correct?? Unless I am mistaken?? Please tell me if so...
I prefer to flash with Odin myself (vs. flashing w/apps), but with TWRP installed, I believe you can use TWRP Mgr from Play Store to Boot to Recovery mode also as well as Flash ROMs and the like... Never tried the app, or any recovery app, just know of some that prefer using apps to do everything from device... If my help does not assist, you can always search out tutorial videos on the matter, or ask around the forum further... Just going by what I have either done or known to have been done so far... Hope it helps...

Bootloop after root

SM-T815
I have try to root with odin and cf autoroot and all work fine, then I have installed twrp for 815 5.0.2 version. After the installation the tablet restart on recovery mode, I try to make a backup and twrp works good but at the restart the tablet is in bootloop.
I can’t shut down. I can only access download mode and not recovery mode.
I have flashed the original firmware with odin and odin says PASS but at the restart it is bootloop again. I try to flash twrp again and odin says PASS, after this I can read on the start screen (the only one I can see) “recovery is not nandroid enforced”. I tried different firmware but nothing work.
Someone can help me?

Boot into recovery POWER +HOME +VOL DOWN then as soon as the screen goes blank immediately change to VOL UP whilst still holding the other buttons.
Wipe data. If that doesn't work then factory reset.
Thanks for the answer. I try more than 100 time but it don't go in recovery mode. I tried to complete discharging and then recharging with the buttons pushed. Nothing. Every time it's stuck in the start screen and i can't shut down.

Hi All!
I would like to share with you how I fix the preblem after root of my T815.
After long night and reading whole net I found the solution.
As you I also wants to root my device because of availible only one user. I wanted to have multiusers. So folowing the instructions downloading all software and after root I got bootloop. Trying everithing but no success. I wasn't able to flash even some of the stock ROMs.
Solution:
I found in Sammobile what is my current ROM and downloaded it. Then flash - no any problems. Went smooth. Then I root the device... and now I have rooted device with multiuser support.
It seems that after fresh flash everithing is OK. It seems that after you playing with your device for a while you enabled some options thats make your device to loop after root.
I wish you Happy New Year!

Will pay for help

Hi. So I have a N6 which I appear to have bricked in some way. The phone was bootloader unlocked, rooted, everything. Then I got cute and just wiped everything off the phone, in my haste and stupidity. Now I seem unable to get it back to working status.
I am willing to pay someone to do this for me, as I need to know if it is salvageable, or just something to use for parts.
Any enterprising person is encouraged to respond. Thanks for the consideration.
More details please?
"Wiped everything off the phone"? How? In TWPR or Factory Reset? In ADB?
Does it boot at all? Does is partially boot and get stuck at Google screen or boot animation? Do you see any light at all coming from it?
Can you boot into Bootloader (Volume Up+Power) or Recovery (Volume Down + Power)?
Need just a bit more information before a proper diagnosis can be performed.
sounds like you did a "full" wipe, full as in everything. what you want to do is move a rom, a kernel, and supersu to your phone and flash it. you can do that via adb, or just with twrp.

Thanks for replying.....I believe I wiped the phone in TWRP. When I plug the phone in, I get the Google logo pop up, then disappear. That's all I get. I cannot boot into Bootloader or Recovery, to my knowledge.

Either flash a stock rom in fastboot or adb sideload a custom rom in TWRP, you`re not bricked. Did you format the sdcard or wipe the OS?

Just in case you don't know: to boot into bootloader hold volume down and power from an unpowered state (phone off). After that: fastboot stock or flash a custom ROM through TWRP.

I believe I wiped the OS & everything from the phone.
You didn't wipe the bootloader.
Hold volume down, then hold power.
The phone will boot to fastboot mode and you can use fastboot to flash the factory image... Google supplies complete instructions on this on the factory image page, and there are tons of guides here....
Fastboot to stock and leave your phone stock until you learn at least the basics of what your doing.
BTW you had to do this to even get TWRP on your phone but you were lazy and used a toolkit instead of learning how to flash images to your phone, and as a result you have no idea how to fix anything
This is why we don't use toolkits kids.

I suppose thanks are in order. Admittedly, I messed up, and I did use a toolkit. But since lazy is a character trait and not necessarily an action, perhaps you can try and keep it positive. You don't know me, so don't characterize me. You can be helpful without beating your chest and calling people lazy. Happy Holidays!

I apologize for not offering free help up to your standards.
Problem Solved
With Woody's help, was able to download phone driver to my computer, after which I was able to use the toolkit again to download the 6.0.1 version of Marshmallow and flash it to my device. Thank goodness! Thanks Woody!

Especially here, because he didn't even try to learn this time either, and used a toolkit instead.

This is true. One should never mess with something when they dont know what they are doing. This is the major issue with toolkits. It makes people dumber.
Yes, I used the toolkit this time, but now that I am restored, really want to get into this, and I have downloaded the appropriate tools for doing this without a toolkit. Like I said to scryan, the tone here is pretty negative. I am really grateful for the help I was given. Have a good day everyone.
John, I have watched your thread with interest (catchy title... ) and I sort of agree that there is a certain negativity in some of the answers, particularly when it comes to toolkits. However, you didn't help your case with your comment "I suppose thanks are in order". Yes, they are. People here can be a bit prickly but everyone does try to help.
Good luck with learning more about manual updating. I've used Wugfresh's NRT many times with success, but it's actually very rewarding to type the commands and achieve the result on your own.
So, when do we get the money?
I want hard cold moolahhhhh
