How to get Hangouts and Gmail to notify on watch in real time - Samsung Galaxy Gear

How do I get gmail and hangouts to notify me in real time on the watch?

All you get with those apps is an alert that you have a notification. You have to go to the phone to read it. Are you not getting any alerts at all?

You should change the title of your post to "How DO I". I came here thinking you wrote up a tutorial.

Hey Cheryl ... Do you know it does it display the email across the gear? Or just an alert that you have a new email and who its from

When you go to either text or email alert in the gear with samsung apps, you can view the entire email or text, brilliant.

Gmail works under the following conditions. .
1) you must have pop3 enabled in your Google account (not your phone in your actual Google account )
2] you use the stock email app (not the Gmail app)
3) install your Gmail as pop3 using push option.
You also need to make sure notifications are turned on for your phone and within the gear app.

Or.....
Use the gmail app and turn on gmail notifications in gear manager since they're off by default. Works for me.

So if I have microsoft exchange programmed to my phones default email address app. Will I be able to get notifications on the watch and read contents?

Now on my watch it just shows that you have a gmail message but it says to open it up with the mobile device. Where and how can I get the Gmail app working on the watch?
I don't want to use the Samsung default email app, its junk.

What is the name of the stock email app, trying to get step by step instructions to this.
The stock app auto-configures Gmail as "push." I'm guessing it's IMAP behind the scenes and it only applies to e-mail, not tasks or the calendar.
Try this, it is working for me for Hotmail.com and Gmail.com accounts.
1- Went to Stock email app(looks like a white envelope with @ symbol in middle.
2- Created hotmail.com account(dont go through manual process of setting account) and selected "push" for sending emails to Note/Gear. Put your email address and password, follow the steps and you are done.
3- Create gmail.com account and do the same as step #2.
4- Go in your Note to Settings-General-Accounts. Select the Google account and hit enter, Uncheck box by Sync Gmail.
This is how I have it set up and Hotmail as well as gmail emails are coming into the Note and Gear.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I am getting proper notifications for Gmail account by pushing the mails to the stock Email app also.
It's working very nicely.
If you set up Gmail in the stock email app, can you still use the Gmail app to read and rely on the phone?
I like the Gmail app as it is seamless between phone and laptop in terms of marking as read, sorting into folders etc.

my email notification is not working as well. tried wit imap and pop but it's not showing
guys anyone here with a working email notification?
You need to enable the pop3 support in the Gmail settings page first before adding the Gmail account to the stock Email app.

Can't get this working either, no notifications from stock email app with my 2 gmail accounts. Notifications are set for stock email and accounts seem to be pulling mail down so not sure why my gear isn't telling me I have mail

You need to use stock email app and when you get to a screen about server, there is a drp down option and select push. You need to also go in your ear app and in setting, there is a section for choosing which apps to send to Gear. Select stock email app, send yourself a test email and should work.
Ian B
That's exactly what I did, no notifications though

See post above me. Make sure you DO NOT choose MANUAL in the stock email app when setting the gmail account choose the option to the right of that for the system to do it all for you. In the next page I believe is where the drop down option at the top is to select PUSH.
If you like, send me a pm with your phone number and I can call you when you want. I think that will be easier than trying to go back and forth with emails.

Yes, in the PC browser, go to your Gmail page and then to Settings.
There you will see tab menus on the top. Choose Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Then, you will see the option to enable POP.
After that, you can just add an account in the stock email app to deliver Gmails with the option of "push" delivery automatically.

Weird as I did not have to touch my MAC to get the emails from Gmail to work with my Gear. All I did was set up the account in the stock email app, select the auto set up, select PUSH in the next setting screen and voila, emails coming to the Gear. I did have to go into the Gear app setting and check the email app to send notifications to the Gear.
All is well in my world and hope we can help one another get their emails and texts going.
Want to remind everyone that only the stock text and email apps are allowed to send info to the gear. If you are using something else, you may get the notification but, nothing else. You will then have to go into the phone to view the text or email.

Hy
I've had the same issue, no notification at all, i've tried everything, but now solved it.
Everytime i've sent e "test-mail", my phone (galaxy note 2) was not in sleeping mode. As i gave up trying, suddenly my Gear was pushing a new mail that came in.
So for me, it only works when the phone is not awake (what makes sense in my opinion). Hope that helps someone others problem too.
Good luck.

That makes sense to me. I don't want the notifications to clog up my watch if I am already looking at the phone.
That only wastes the battery life of the watch. Smart!

setting default apps

I'm new to android, coming from dumb apple. I'm wanting to set chrome as default browser and Gmail app as default mail app but u can't figure out how to do it.
If read that by clicking clear default in settings for Internet browser you can then set browser to chrome but clear default is grayed out in my settings.
Another question is how to get my Note 3 to show how many new emails I have I'm my Gmail app? I have Gmail app in my lock screen dock but it never shows me when I have new mails except in the top bar and sometimes that's hard to catch.
Thanks in advance for your help and I apologize for any fat finger typos.
Text yourself a Web address and an email address. When you click them it will ask what do you want to open it with. You make make your default selection there.

[Q] WiFi Disconnects When Login Required

I'm new to Samsung and Touchwiz. It appears there is a "feature" where the Note 4 is disconnecting from WiFi hotspots that require login.
In the past I have used the "Wifi Web Login" app to autoconnect to these. The samsung feature breaks this ability.
Anyone know how to disable this?
Ultimately I want to be able to:
1. autoconnect to known hotspots
2. if it requires login, then auto login
This was not a problem on any of my old phones.
Thanks for your help.
Dan
The first time connecting to a login secured wifi you should see a notification pop up in the notification bar. Click on it,it will take you to the web based login screen.
If the notification does not appear, open the stock browser and you will be redirected to the login page.
After that it will remember the login info next time you are at that same place

Thanks chrisgto4 but this is not automated. I dont mind using an external app to automate, if the Wifi service would let me.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Stock Email Wear Notifications Issue

When emails come to the stock s5 email inbox I can only see partial amounts of the email on the notification card. Also, if more than one email comes I cannot expand any of the cards on the watch I just see who sent an email. There is no way to reply either..I can only open on the phone which makes the watch pointless.
I there a way to see the full text of the email like the Gear 2 running Tizen??
I can only use the S5 stock email because I have work email through airwatch exchange.
Not with the stock email app. Not that I've found anyway

The best solution here is to use Gmail for everything.
1) It now handles Yahoo and Outlook/Hotmail accounts.
2) It is an excellent powerful email client.
3) Android Wear LOVES Gmail. You can view entire mails and respond to them via voice.

Android Wear is about to get a major upgrade which should help with some of these things, but remember, an apps integration with Android Wear is what determines its functionality, not the watch.

Start Outlook In Safe-Mode.
Run The Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.
Run The Inbox Repair Tool.
Repair Office.
Remove Outlook From Your Startup Folder.
Stop Performing a Send/Receive When Exiting Outlook.
Update All Your Add-Ins.
Try It On a Another Machine.
Hope You Find This Useful,
Peter
