[Q] Cyanogen Mod / Other ROMs for the Butterfly S - HTC Butterfly S

Hi, I've been digging around here and generally around the internet too. There doesn't seem to be much interest in developing for this, yeah ? Does anyone know if there exists a port of Cyanogenmod for the Butterfly S or if anyone is developing for it at all? Love this phone but i'm not expecting much in terms of updates and that really would be a shame.

Hmm.. Yeah, it is a really nice phone. How was the original Butterfly with updates ? I'm liking some of the stuff Google is doing with 4.4 and i hope the update makes it over to the Butterfly S as well eventually.

The original had the updates to 4.2.2 right after HTC one but I sold mines because I wanted dual speakers bigger battery etc. I till miss the lightness of it

I just hope they don't repeat the crap with the One S again. So far HTC has not been clear on when the Butterfly s getting 4.3. IF there is an update we likely won't be delayed since these phones are unlocked. Taiwanese versions usually get it first shortly followed by the rest.
Also an interesting note it seems you can disable BlinkFeed on One X/X+ and original Butterfly on 4.2/Sense 5, but they left out the "home screen style" option on the Butterfly s and One which means you can't disable it. Personally I don't mind Blinkfeed I look at news from it whenever I'm bored, but it seems a lot of people hate it. It seems HTC wanted users of the newer devices to use Blinkfeed but didn't want to force older device users.

The HTC ONE and the butterfly s came with blinkfeed so ya can't change it but older models were updated so u have a choice

Guess its a preference thing...I like sense...especially compared to touch wizzard and motocrap...sense is a little 'heavy' with 4.0 though..can't wait for damn bootloader to be unlocked...but that's just first hurdle..

I've seen sense clocks on many other devices trying to imitate the sense's look. Why not just try a custom launcher, you'll do that anyways on any other device
Sent from my HTC Vivid via Tapatalk
you can always flash a custom AOSP rom like virtuous inquisition or the wajee one and get rid of sense.
I have virtuous ROM, but I'm going ahead and trading my vivid for the nexus s.

I can't really find a phone worthy to replace my vivid yet. Of course something similar or a little better, yes, bu not that "wow" device. The direction some manufacturers go (no sd card or removable battery, even quad-core with lte) I guess I'll keep it for at least 9-12 more months.

you can always flash a sensless rom. then you might fall in love with the vivid again. once you rip out sense and att apps, the device starts to perform

NO new rom,NO new kernel,Very Low Update, (this is the end of vivid life?)

HTC Vivid topic is very quiet.
NO new rom
NO New kernel
Very Low update for roms (only De-sensed and Holics have some activate), and i think this low activate goes very soon.
so this is the end of Vivid dev life ?

i know have many rom before. but it's so many time that don't have new rom. or some of them have bug and not fixed (like signalbar in de-sensed and miui)
Looks like we have 5 currently working roms, several on hold and also looks like they are being updated regularly.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
This phone isn't very popular. We aren't gointo be seeing much more development going on for it and the ROMs that are out there cover all the bases our community is capable of. That being said...every build that's out there right now is very solid and generally a joy to use. If you want a hundred sub-par ROMs to choose from, then by all means sell your phone and get a new one.

The developers have hit a wall with ril issues so that best thing can really do is give us good tweaked stock roms. The issue is HTC didn't make the phone very developer friendly

i know your rom and kernel are now best for vivid. i use your rom and kernel. i mean add a new feature like usb otg.
(why HTC don't use usb otg? even OneX don't have this. but most of samsung have this. i think that's very important for a modern phone.)
or nobody work on jelly bean (in next forum worked but know is closed)
I'm still lost as to why we can't get a working sense 4.0 Rom.

Because HTC has s*** coding, doesn't provide source, when they do its s*** and a mess, att just adds to the troubles
The main problem is the rills...basically the devs can't figure out how to get signal -that's in really basic terms for the non-tech people...there's obviously more to it...
Not sure why everyone is so crazy about sense 4...looks the same to me...what we really need is a solid (real) aosp Rom...bot One based off sense...one built from source...preferbally cm9/10...either one...

Yeah I really don't care much for htc enlight of this phone and my flyer (Cut my losses with it to get a nexus 7). My captivate was my 4th straight Samsung and I was always impressed with HTCs build quality and Sense looked cool so I thought I'd give them a chance. But now they'll never get my business ever again.
CM was always an option until I got these htc pieces of crap. I'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment but when I get back on track financially I'm buying a Nexus phone, either the gnex or its successor if it's out by then. As I've found from my Nexus tab with pure android an the most current version of android the desire to root is pretty weak

It doesn't really make financial sense to have the early adopters be able to get a plain Android experience. I mean we already gave HTC our money why would they provide a "software switch" and risk having brick several devices. And I'm sure the carriers won't allowed either.

If it was released by HTC it wouldn't brick our phones.... Also why wouldn't the carrier allow it? They have nothing to lose from it. And lastly, the stock android One is the same price as the one you would buy from sprint or att off contract.

I've always remembered basic updates Froyo to Gingerbread bricking phones and having carriers pull it afterwards. Even recently T Mobile had to pull the LG L9 update to jelly bean.
And I'm sure the carriers wouldn't like their bloatware being removed.

The IR blaster would work actually, it just wouldn't come with a dedicated app for it.
Three of those items, camera/video mix/Zoe are the same thing considering all of that is in the camera coding.
So your list boils down to two things. No flip board and waiting for HTC to modify their camera software.

I wouldn't. IMO, the roll-outs for software updates are coming fairly rapidly for HTC with the One. Nexus would get it's updates directly from Google, which has the upside of getting it first, but other than that, and having a "clean" Android phone, there really isn't any point to it for me. To each his own, though...

go get it!
by the way, last thing you wana do is ask htc one users or nexus 5 , if you need a unbiased view u have to go outside this group and watch online videos and see if its worth it. This always works on people who cant make decisions.
I'm keeping my One and getting a N5. If It did come down to it though I probably would sell it. I do prefer stock android and I like quick updates. HTC is doing a good job, but I like having them immediately. Only reason I'm keeping my One to be honest is the 64gb of storage I need for music listening purposes.

Nexus 5 speaker flat out sucks compared to One..
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Nope! I wouldn't
- way better speaker(s) on the One
- Cotulla is here bringing us Windows goodness ?
- I've heard android 4.4 and snapdragon 800 are the only pro's for the N5, of which we'll get Android 4.4 soon enough and snapdragon 600 is powerful enough
- I love the aluminum unibody too much to let it go
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I wouldn't just cause I like the One more than Nexus 5. Other than 4.4 which we probably will get soon enough there isn't much to make me really want to get the 5. Plus I like having the option of using Sense and not having just different AOSP roms.

I would say no.
I was very keen on getting a Nexus 5.. was sat waiting for the official release online on Thursday, kept refreshing websites etc, but over the weekend I have totally changed my mind as like others have said, the only real big advantage is 4.4, Snapdragon 800 and quick to receive updates.
HTC One is only a little behind on speed, has higher dpi and far far better speakers. Now I like the latest version of Android asap and hate waiting, so here is what I did today and would suggest to others.. I converted my HTC One to a Google Play Edition. I now have a nice clean install, no bloatware, OTA updates, so I should receive my 4.4 update when it rolls out in i believe about 2 weeks, maybe less.
I didn't use blinkfeed or Zoes or any of that stuff so losing Sense 5.5 is no loss for me.
I have a nice warm feeling inside now that my HTC One is soon to be just as good as the Nexus 5 when I get 4.4, until then, I can handle it being a little under par...
