How to get Recovery/Download modes - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Of so after much trail and error here is the process to get to them.
1. With the gear on press and hold the power button until gear screen goes black.
2. Once the reboot screen appears press the power button 5 times with about a second interval between each press.
3. You will then be presented with the following three options: continue/download/recovery
4. Pressing the power button will cycle through the options.
5. Leaving it on the options or pressing the power button for 3 seconds will select the option picked.
NOTE: My experience so far download works like the phones, but be warned if recovery is chosen it will say "installing update" after which it will reboot to factory defaults. So that means all will be deleted and you will be presented with a fresh gear.
Hope that helps everyone especially devs. Hopefully getting some cool new things on our gear.
If this info helped leave me a thanks and pass the work. Glad I could have helped.

yes it works.

You can use adb to reboot into these modes:
adb reboot recovery
adb reboot download
If you do it this way, recovery does not reset your phone
Now if only someone knew how to compile custom recovery so that we could get philz touch support
EDIT:
From what I've seen, gear currently runs android 4.2.2

Wont go into recovery mode

Hey I need some help.
I have a stock exhibit II 4g and I am trying to root it but I've tried a thousand times and it will not go into recovery mode. I've tried many timing variations one the simple power and volume up. Some site say to do power, volume up, and home. and the there volume down and power which takes it into Odin Mode which just sits there "downloading" forever.
I've even watched youtube videos and time it exactly like they do but my phone just does not do the same thing that theirs does. Is there some trick to it that I'm not getting?

Try this. Plug it into USB cable of computer, pull out battery, hold volume up and power and reinsert battery. You should come to a screen with a triangle, just hit the menu key and you will be in recovery.

That worked, thanks. But now my data doesn't work with any of the ROM's I've tried (CM10 and slimbean both 4.1.2). and the android keyboard stops working whenever i install gapps.
Any idea why?
Not that the roms come with data off but did you check to be sure data is enabled. Usually the easiest is the most overlooked.

I've managed to get into recovery by holding both up and down, holding power till the screen turns on, releasing power, then waiting till I see the recovery menu to release up and down.

help my phone is bricked
i cant get in recovery mode i have bricked my phone i was puting a costum rom on my phone stuck in boot logo can someone tell me how were do i get

Just an FYI

So I am a crack flasher and sometimes my phone locks up in aroma installer when flashing a ROM. I noticed sometimes when my phone locked, there wasn't a thing I could do to reboot it (holding power button or holding power+volume down). I would actually have to wait for the battery to die....it would piss me off! I finally found a fix for this. If your phone is locked up and won't reboot, put the phone up to a bright light and hold the power+volume down buttons for 8 seconds and poof! Your phone will reboot, just thought I would share this as I found this method VERY useful!

Is the light really necessary? I got stuck in Aroma and just held power for about 12 seconds and poofed.

It doesn't work for some. Another option is to connect your phone to a computer and adb reboot

Sometimes it is, trust me...I've gone as far as tying hair ties around the power button so the softkeys blink to help the battery die....and sometimes the adb reboot does work but right now my computer is non functional so it does no good for me

Or, use the volume controls to navigate and power to select. Never freezes using buttons.

Just my :2cents:
Holding down the power button on most, if not all electronics will eventually power it down. It's a safety built into devices that you're unable to remove the battery from.
aside from using the volume and power buttons, boot into fastboot and erase cache before flashing. And waiting a few seconds in between making selections in aroma and after the initial load into aroma installer. I haven't had a single aroma lockup yet.

[HOW-TO] Enter Safe Mode via System

All you have to do is press and hold the power button, press and hold "Power Off" and then you will get an option to go to safe mode, press "Ok" and you will reboot to safe mode.
Thank me if this was helpful.
It works on paranoid android 3.65 but what is the purpose of safe mode?

If a 3rd Party App is causing an issue safe mode can help disable it for that user to remove it, same applies for widgets.

To get on stock, when booting, just hold Volume Down button, when "X" boot appears ( you can hold it earlier even at google logo) but remember JUST Volume DOWN Button)

Well I like to follow instructions precisely and they never said to let go or until.
Anyway got it to come up on the carbon rom.... Bring up power menu as normal, hold reboot option and safe mode message comes up.
Looks like on custom ROMs you have to hold reboot.
Paranoid 3+ is the same has the stock rom.

I think what you want can be done via USB debugging. On the gear go to settings and all the way to the bottom, Gear Info, then tick USB debugging.

Press and hold power to reboot. Keep holding till you get the recovery screen. Tap to scroll down to download . Press and hold power for 3-4 sec to select
Can someone shoot a short clip of it going into download modus?
Instructions on getting into download mode can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2480429
See the section in the first post on restoring to a stock ROM.
The relevant steps for easy reference:
From being powered on, (Bootable or not) press and hold the button of the right until the Gear shows "Samsung Galaxy Gear Rebooting" and rapidly press the button until you get to the "Select REBOOT MODE" screen.
Highlight "Download" in the list by pressing the button to scroll.
Press and hold the button for 3 seconds (and let go! The screen won't change immediately) and let it boot into download mode.
the same here.. When i press the power button longer than 1 sec - gear is rebooting. Only when i pres the power button about 30 times it freezes at Recovery and then im able to see recovery for one second. Someone had smth. like this?

Factory Recovery??

I can't seem to get my phone to boot into recovery. I do the power-volume up and it boots to a "Hardware key control mode" but it boots to system after that. Am I missing something.
I have the t-mobile LG D959 G FLEX TITAN SILVER KIT. That is how it is listed on the box.
Turn phone completely off, make sure it is unplugged from the charge cable. Then hold volume down and power together until you see the screen say recovery mode. First it will show the LG splash screen. You must continue to hold it until you see the words recovery mode.

I thought it was power and volume up not down. BUT, it doesn't matter which volume key, they both bring me to the hardware key control window. It stops there to select on off or cancel. From this screen, you have to make a selection which requires you to release the buttons. Once leaving this screen with whatever choice is made it boots up to system. Yes phone is unplugged and a complete shutdown is made.
I'm on the Sprint version and the way I said gets me into recovery. It's strange that it doesn't work for you. Just to make sure. I start off by holding volume down then I push and hold power with it until recovery mode shows

Leave the power button when you see the logo. And continue pursuing rest of the key
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
These are the instructions from the t-mo user manual:
Power off the device and ensure it is not connected to any USB cables.
At the same time, press and hold the following keys for 8 seconds:
Power key
Volume down key
When the LG Logo is displayed, release and then immediately re-hold the Power key.
When the 'FACTORY HARD RESET' screen displays, release the keys.
Press the Power key to reset or one of the Volume keys to cancel.
Press the Power key to confirm the reset. The reset will start immediately.
Still can't get recovery, so I went into Titanium Backup, and rebooted to recovery from there. Reboots, I see the android with a little diamond kinda thing in his torso for probably less than a second, screen goes black and LG logo pops up and it boots system. Curious if this can be attributed to rooting? Any other ROOTED tmo users confirm they can boot to recovery, please.
I used supsersu to unroot and was able to achieve recovery. Re-rooted and no recovery.????
this may be a silly question, but have you flashed CWM or TWRP?(not sure if there are versions for this phone)

No, stock phone except for root, I prefer TWRP and am waiting. This is really a snappy phone and I am happy with it the way it is for now. Been a long time since I had a stock phone, and this one works great so far. Not in any hurry to put a custom rom on it, Not to good with ADB, but I want to make a recovery image.
I never had a LG phone before, so I am not sure if your problem getting into recovery comes from the fact you are rooted, but still have a stock recovery instead of a custom one like twrp/CWM..
I cant decide on this phone, the Xperia Z1S, or the note 3; I have to drop Sprint this week because their network sucks and my family cant make calls from the house, and I cant decide which phone to get..
love the way the flex feels and looks, but its 4.2; sony screen is a bit small coming form a One Max and Note 2, and the Note 3 is kinda boring....tons of roms to choose from for the note 3..
decisions, decisions...the beauty of Android! :cyclops:
I messed up and flashed a wrong recovery now I need the stock img anyone have it? ?
