[UK] Nexus 5 General UK Chat - Nexus 5 General

Thought i'd start a thread for UK chat regarding orders pricing etc as we had for the Nexus 4 before.
So who has a good idea on pricing? If it's under £250 for 16gb i'll be tempted. Any closer to the £300 mark and i'll probably go with the MI3. I'm currently using a THL W200 i'm a phone addict

Well when the Nexus 4 launched it was $299 in the US and £239 in the UK, and the price leaks for the 16GB Nexus 5 have been $299 so if we were to believe these leaks then the UK price will again be £239.

I think the 16gb would be either £239 or £249 and the 32gb £299. Reasonable price to be fair. Xiaomi Mi3 only will have MIUI support no other custom ROM just like the previous Xiaomi.

I'll be upgrading from my nexus 4, if rumours of a larger battery for the 32gb then I'll go for that if not 16gb is more than enough for me with all the cloud storage etc available.
Come on Google, just release it already damn you!

I will be ordering mine as soon as i can, i have £350 just waiting for it to go on sale. Cannot wait as been waiting months already for it, as for the prices I reckon we could be looking at £280 for 16gb and £320 for 32gb

My family lives in London, I bought my Nexus 4 from Carphone warehouse ( They did for me and sent it to me later on ), it was for sure more expensive than it was on Googleplay, any UK resident can tip me how do I have to buy the Nexus 5 this time for a cheap-google price? I should only go with Googleplay ?

Unless it's already sold out, you're buying it subsidised with a contract, or you're impatient enough that you can't wait a day or two for shipping, I can't think of any reason not to buy it directly from Google.

Just checking in, Will probably be getting the 32GB if I can.
Does anybody know if the Nexus4 Launched at midnight UK for the UK or did it launch at Midnight USA in all areas.

i've had my n4 since launch and hoping for these from the n5
improved camera esp in low light
better battery life
a buzzing free earpiece w/ improved call quality
<£300 simfree
gimme those and and i'm in

if it is the same googleplay setup with subsidized pricing then that is the ONLY place to get it without others adding on their £££

I think I'm willing to go up to £350 if it ticks all the boxes for me.

Fellow UK brahs..
Do yous reckon it's a worthy upgrade? Kind feel like I'd be paying for something the same but with white status icons and a slightly bigger screen?
..

if the camera is as good as the lg g2 then it is worth it for that alone in my eyes

Despite my Nexus 4 still going strong, one of the major reasons I'm going to upgrade is proper 4G LTE support. 4G services for the rest of the networks have started going live. Being on the Three network on The One Plan lets me take advantage of it as soon as it is available. But of course I need a phone that supports LTE, and thus my upgrade.

Hmm still not a peep of it yet...I'll keep checking back all morning not sure why as if I get it I can't afford it til Friday at all.

In my opinion, no. And for the following reasons:
The only worthy (to me) improvements will be a larger 4.95" 1080p screen and slightly smaller phone dimensions. Things like purported camera improvements and faster processor are not important to me cause I wont notice the difference. I am also not ready to pay LTE prices as I only ever use mobile data when I am commuting so the inclusion of LTE doesnt matter. Finally the N4 is such a beautiful phone and the N5 has nothing on it in the looks department.
If you currently use a GNex then it would be a worthy upgrade, if you have an N4, less so.

I'll be getting it as soon as it's pre-orderable (if that's a word).
My Galaxy S3 is on it's last legs and would like to turn it into a dash cam after getting a new phone.
Currently hoping that they announce a Nexus 10 2013 as well because I can't justify getting a Nexus 5 and a 7 since they're so closely related...a new 10 inch tab would be lovely though. I dropped my Prime and it shattered into a thousand pieces so this month will be an expensive one.

I am wondering if they're going to do a staggered release like they did with the 2013 Nexus 7. I think it did prevent a lot of ordering havoc but we had to wait an extra month after the initial release in the USA which sucked.

I'm already to go for this as well... but that being said, not having a firm release date is a pain..

Hi,
I'll probably upgrade just because it has LTE and 32GB .... I always had 32gb phones with the exception of my current Nexus 4 and i'm already struggling with space... The only thing that bothers me is the size... i already had a 5" phone and it was very unconfortable to use the phone with only one hand....
I think the size of the Nexus 4 is perfect for me

Nexus 4 - Discussion Thread

I figured many users may want to express what they feel about the new Nexus 4.
Well, in my opinion - It surely is a beast - I don't like the look of it though - The back looks stunning but the front is kind of weird.
THE BEST PART - The price is INSANE! 349 for 16GB GSM - Getting a 2G, Quad Core BEAST is INSANE!
Sorry for caps but it's just amazing! I'm trying to sell out my Nexus to get the N4.
The thing I don't like - It's not SuperAmoled - But it's not Pentile either.
Android 4.2 features are amazing, it looks smooth! I love that they finally included quick settings and the sphere camera thing is epic.
Let's get this thread going
the phone is very cheap for the hardware, but i think if it won´t offer a better batterylife i can wait. the nexus itself is awesome and very fast, there´s no need for me atm for more power xD
i hate the fact that google is gonna take the way of apple, getting money (50€/$) for 8gb extra internal storage... and the 8gb version makes not much sense. if u own such a device, you´d like to play games, that take benefits from the hardware and such games are 1gb+. all in all i can wait for the moment. in 2months i can get a new phone, because my contract is gonna expire
i´d always prefer a nexus, but hd display, with only 16gb storage sucks if u want to watch hd videos :/ so i might take an s3 or nexus tablet for that and stick to the nexus as mainphone, we´ll see.
I allready found some1 that want to buy my GNex but i wait until the release... I can't waiiiiiiiiiittttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >_< damn 350$ 16bg???? so so so cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i paid 400$ for my GNex gsm 16Gb... but i really love my GNex (is the only phone that remeaind in my pocket for 8-9 months ) i usually sell my phone every 2-3 months

Well, then I just buy the next Nexus.

Doesn't matter! You'll still get all the updates in time! The Gnex development department is AMAZING. Get your hands on the Nexus 10 instead - That thing is beast! LOOK AT THE RESOLUTION
I get everyone's gripe about internal storage being insufficient and only HSPA+ device. Lack of LTE doesn't bother me. Apparently HSPA+ is a slouch on a couch to everyone. Society is now on the go, go, go age.

I got mine on 10/5, so about 3 weeks ago. Does anyone know anyway to convince Google to take it as a return? I see they have 15 days only on their website, which is honestly a joke... Except for big ticket items (cars, homes, etc.) the standard should really be 30 days and I'd even say up to 90. Anyway, any guidance is helpful, if there isn't any, no big deal.

How the hell Google is taking way of apple when Google is selling their flagship phone for $300-$350? Apple charges $700 for the unlocked iPhone 5. At this price I don't think there is any room to complain.

I am seriously considering getting one of these babies at launch. The specs look fantastic and I have grown to love stock android since getting my Nexus 7. I'm hoping I can set my 6 month old One X about £270-280 so that it will cover this purchase. The only downgrade will be the storage space but considering I only use about 4gb of the available space on my One X it won't be an issue.
I understand for some 16gb won't be enough. But if you look at what Google has done with the Nexus 7 I wouldn't be surprised to see a 32gb model released a few months down the line.
I'd like to see a screen comparison between the One X and the Nexus 4. I LOVE the screen on my One X and if the Nexus 4 screen isn't at a similar level it could make me decide to stick with what I have.

Undoubtedly! The Nexus 4 is SO cheap! I can literally sell my Galaxy Nexus right now for the same price of the Nexus 4.
At this point it may be difficult to sell the GNex at New pricing, unless you literally ordered it before it was removed from Play or you use convincing-enough wording when listing it on Amazon.

I'm going to buy direct from Google and switch to GiffGaff. It runs on o2's network so the signal will be the same. They have a variety of very low priced offers. Check it out: http://giffgaff.com/
I've cancelled my contract with Vodafone. Contracts are just too expensive in the long run. This phone will be around £25-30 for 2 years. That makes a total price of £600-720. Buying direct and using GiffGaffs £10 a month offer after two years it is £520

The New Zealand Nexus 4 Thread

Updated 15/7/2013
This thread is a place for New Zealand Nexus 4 owners, or wanna-be owners to discuss/report/speculate on, or just chat about our phones.
I've compiled a list of options showing where/how we can purchase the Nexus 4 in New Zealand...
Expert Infotech (Updated 15/7/2013)
16GB Black Nexus 4 $548.06 NZD
http://einfo.co.nz/shop/lg-nexus-e960-16gb-black-special-price-p-27320.html
2degrees Online Shop (Updated 22/7/2013)
16GB Black Nexus 4 $499 NZD
https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/sh...t__sorig=/SelectCat.do?catId=21&productId=290
Warehouse Stationary (Updated 15/7/2013)
16GB Black Nexus 4 $699 NZD
http://www.w[email protected]WSL-B2C
MobiCity NZ (Updated 15/7/2013)
16GB Black Nexus 4 $678.86NZD
http://www.mobicity.co.nz/lg-nexus-4-16gb.html
Here is the US GooglePlay Option...
Nexus 4 from Google Play USA (Updated 30/1/2013) This option involves using:
A VPN (recommend Tunnelbear), http://www.tunnelbear.com/
A parcel forwarding service in the US - NZ Post have YouShop http://www.nzpost.co.nz/products-services/online-shopping/youshop (It's worth noting that some members here have had a very mediocre experience with YouShop lately - One has even had his phone stolen after arriving in the YouShop warehouse! This is not indicative of everybody's dealings with them, but I would recommend caution with this option. There are plenty of other companies which may give you a better end result).
Setting up your Google Wallet with the YouShop address in the US (or whatever the address is of your Parcel Forwarding company)
I have read that some people have set up entirely new Google Accounts, so that may also help...
Finally you'll need a whole lot of luck - this seems to have worked for a few people, but not others.
16GB Black Nexus 4 (Ships in 1-2 weeks) $349 USD Shipping costs in the US $15 USD Shipping to NZ via Youshop $15 USD GST/DUTY $87 USD Total Cost $465 USD or $567 NZD
8GB Black Nexus 4 (Ships in 1-2 weeks) $299 USD Shipping costs in the US $15 USD Shipping to NZ via Youshop $15 USD GST/DUTY $0 Total Cost $329 USD or $401 NZD
The US Google Play Store is by far and away the cheapest option available, so if you can do this option, I would recommend you give it a go.
Here are some links to the cases and screen protectors I have on my Nexus 4...
Cases:
SF Matte Black - Rearth Ringke SLIM for LG Google Nexus 4 Soft Feeling Premium Hard Case - ECO Package [Revised Version] $9.99 USD Standard Shipping (averages 10-16 business days) $12.00 USD Total Cost $20.99 USD or $26 NZD (I have a white and a black one of these - seem pretty good so far. Light and slim. There's a minor fitment issue with the original batch of these, but the manufacturers have since revised it and they are replacing the defective ones for free)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A81H176/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A8YCUEQIOX5AP
Screen Protectors:
Google Nexus 4 Screen Protector Steinheil Dual $13.99 USD Shipping $5.04 USD Total $19.03 or $23 NZD (I have used SPG for all my phones screen protectors and they have been great. This one for the Nexus 4 has a front and back screen protector)

Good to know I am not the only one suffering. So far it seems you have already reached into most of the options, I also thought about YouPost but the amount of work required not to mention the added costs, I don't think its worth it. I am just hoping that stocks arrive at the parallel imported sites and the price isn't too hefty. I wish us kiwis weren't discriminated by Google, they have a lot of potential customers here in NZ.
Im also waiting impatiently. I guess we just have to wait, New zealand is such a tiny market compared to other countries. Im keeping an eye out for overseas stores that will ship here to get stock

Me too!!! We should hopefully know more about the price from the parallel imported stores in the next week or two. Google is potentilally missing out by not offering us (and other countries) these services (I guess it's us who ultimately miss out though)!. We may not have the biggest market, but we would be loyal! I'd also love to be able to buy my music from the playstore instead of itunes. I already have 4500 songs uploaded to google music in anticipation of having to downgrade storage on my phone from 16GB internal and 64GB external to the 16GB of the nexus 4, but I don't have the new phone to stream it on!

I reckon you would be best to hold out for the nexus 4. If you're willing to wait a little bit longer then it looks like sony might actually be bringing out a flagship model that will compete directly with the iphone 5 and SGS3 while still being very compatible with the custom rom community...that being said, I know I don't want to wait and I'd love to get my hands on a nexus 4 tomorrow!...

So I messaged LG and asked when they expected to be selling the device in NZ and the reply was they had no idea when or if they would be selling it here. That leaves this in the hands of parallel importers which will be random and pricey.
Started looking on eBay in US and Aus but it was all getting to hard but then as luck would have it I saw someone listing one on TradeMe for $735 and I just had to have it so I used the buy now lol I think this might end up being a good price for this device I just can't wait to get my hands on it.

Price for the nexus 5?

How much money do you guys think the nexus 5 would be? i would love a two year 16gb model for 200$.
I'm thinking $400 for the base model, off contract. They're not going to retain the same pricing as the N4 in all likelihood given those "leaked" specs.

But really $200 for the specs we have seen? That would be giving it away. Im guessing something like $349 for 16GB and $399 for 32GB.

I am eagerly waiting for the release of N5, if the No - Contract price is 400$ or above then it is out of my reach.

It really is the only bump they can go with the N5 otherwise they would just be repackaging the N4.
lets also guess how many people will get their hands on n5
I'll definitely fork out $349 or $399 for the 16GB or 32GB models respectively. Anything more than that, I might think twice.
But I'll still probably take it. Nexus S was my first android phone and I've never regretted my decision of getting that (even if I don't have it anymore since I lost it on my way to work)

349/399 for the 16 and 32 gb respectively, 200 is just impossible, google is not a charity.

I think the OP meant $200 on contract, which would be the absolute most it would cost on contract, and even that would be a ripoff. If it's $349-$399 off contract, then on contract it should be free.

Why does everyone assume the pricing can't be the same as the N4 last year? The N4 was basically the Optimus G, which at the time was the best of the best, as far as specs go.
This time around, the N5 is basically the G2, which, again, currently has the highest specs on the market. The situation looks identical to me, and I see no reason the price should not be identical as well.

"We are told by our source that the 16GB LG Nexus 5 will feature a 2300mAh battery and will be priced lock, stock and barrel for $299. The 32GB LG Nexus 5 will be powered by a 3000mAh cell and will be priced at $399."
I'm weary of anon tipsters. Hurry up and make an official announcement.

if the 32gb really had the g2-battery, then thats the only version to go for! \m/
I seriously hope it`s gonna be priced like the N4
299$ / 349$ for 16GB/32GB or 8GB/16GB I dont really mind the Flash size as long as it`s cheap
Surely the 2 version of batteries cant be right as this would mean the dimensions would be different??
I wish this was the case but I cant see it myself.
Ill be getting it regardless, just had a tax rebate so nicely timed with the launch of the phone

Nexus 5 - Romania thread

Hello Wallachian! :highfive:
Here is the place we can talk about Nexus 5 in our country.(specs, tips & tricks, accesories, price, roms & kernels...etc)
Enjoy!
Users have to speak english, also in "national thread".
The price in our country will be for sure around double than the original one...
I hope I can get it from another country such as USA or Germany

Thread cleaned
Guys, even if this Thread is called "romanian thread", the one and only allowed language on xda is English.
So please stop posting in romanian, but in English in future posts.
I want this device at 2200RON price range
Ok, sorry for my bad post but I was really thrilled about a 'national topic'. Anyhow I must say that the price of Nexus 5 ( or Nexus 4 2013) will be much higher in Romania, around 2500 ron for the 16 gb version and 2900 ron for the 32 gb version.

Sad but thrue, in our country first price is double. When i purchase nexus 4 i expected to lower the price.
After a couple of months, the price will be reduced, for sure. see how N4 or n7 prices evolved during the following months after the launch. I took the second N4 in August at 1600ron (~350e). The same price at which I took the first one in March from Germany's Playstore.
We cannot compare the price in US with Europe, anyway. nobody can.

2500RON is to high.LG G2 is 2400RON on eMag.ro.A nexus device is cheaper. My phone now is an LG Optimus Hub with cracked screen. The touch still works.Nexus 5 will be a big jump for me
LG G2 is NOW 509euros on orange.ro.,standard price. that means around 2200ron.
Nexus 4 was 2200 ron when was first introduced at emag, and then the price was reduced slowly...to 19,18 and 1699ron. Now, its 1549, which is still very good for the phone. I am selling my N4 as we speak.
i know this because i followed closely the price. both for N4 and N7 2012 & 2013. But if you dont believe me, i can search and post the links from other forum, softpedia where the discussion started at the launch of N4.
i can bet that the N5 price will be ~2200 at launch and after January will decrease below 2000 ron.
just found this link

I purchase my Nexus 4 two weeks ago from evomag.ro, price 1389 RON. Now is around 1600 RON there.
probably it was some kind of sale. If you have said it, i would have sold it mine for as low as 1200 ron, still in box 2y warranty.
So, it has been released! Now we have to wait until some reseller brings it. However, I assume it will be pricey (2000 RON for 16GB version, which IMO is a rip off).

You are old enough (hope so:silly to realize that in our country, even if most of the population is poor, everything is a rip off
Alredy is available in Romania , 2007 RON / 449 euro ....good price for start http://www.alex-gsm.ro/NEXUS-5-16GB-BLACK-PREMIERA-IN-ROMANIA-c144-p7676.htm
@Octavius69 that's the sad truth. In all the poor/third world countries everything is expensive. Even so, this doesn't seem to stop people buying overpriced things. On the other hand I can understand that the price displayed on Google Play is subsidized by Google, hence the other retailers will have a higher price tag. And this last part applies everywhere. What's frustrating is that Google is not stepping in and release it's devices on more countries.
Going back OT: The 16GB version is available at PC "Garbage" as well (~2100 RON). Let's see if other major reseller will join. I am curious to see the price for the 32GB version.
EDIT: Same device on cel.ro for 2000RON, but still no news about the other one.
I would wait if I knew they will brig the rumored one, which has bigger battery or the 32Gb but I'm pretty sure they will not import it in the next weeks, not in a decent price range at least. Therefore I prefer to buy it now, I was waiting for too long this almost perfect phone.
Stefan, they will bring for sure the 32GB version in the coming weeks. However, please note that the capacity is the same, 2300mA, on both versions (16/32GB). There is no 32GB version with a 3000mA battery. That was pure speculation (just a rumor).
I just purchased mine 16Gb from evoMag at almost 2000Ron which for the 5th day after release date is a decent price. Good luck to finding yours.
Regards,
Me

@icsulescu what is the expected delivery date? For the time being I'm waiting for the 32GB version, which is not yet available in RO.

im more concerned about how much will it cost to buy one here..
unlocked nexus devices here doesn't come with google play price tag.. it could go up to ~50% more expensive especially when it's new..

yes, I am sure it won't go as high as G2, since the G2 price is on 6.5M I am sure the N5 will be in 5-6M range if not the same price as N4 when first released here back in january.
Not sure which version will be released here tho, but let's hope it will be the 32GB version.

well let's hope it stays that way to get buyers attention.. a phone with Snapdragon 800 for under $600 is considered a steal even in indonesian standard..
heck, even my LG G2 (which is basically a N5 with a bigger battery, an IR Port, and 13 megapixel camera) is about $100 cheaper than the Z1.. and a whole $200 cheaper than the Note 3..
The "luxury item tax" sucks in this country. (pajak barang mewah in Indonesian)
If LG decides to bring it here, I think it'll be priced at IDR 5,499,000 and IDR 5,999,000 for the 16GB / 32GB variant respectively. Not sure when, but since there's this Indocomtech event going on right now and they are advertising the G2 a lot, I think we'll have to wait until the craze about G2 dies down before they bring it to Indonesia. I mean why would they bring a cheaper phone when they have G2 right?
I have a credit card but I'm not sure how I feel about ordering online via Play Store / Amazon / eBay. If there's a holdup at the airport that would suck. I may even have to end up paying more money just to get that phone "released" from the custody of stupidly retarded corrupted people.
I have a few friends in the US that travels back and forth though, so I'm actually thinking of asking them to get one for me.
Anyone knows if the it can be used in Indonesia though? I'm kind of afraid there's a difference in network bands.
Anyway, with all that said, maybe we can all try to rush LG by perhaps, mentioning the existance of Nexus 5 via Twitter (@lgmobileid) or their Facebook fan page
Perhaps if they see there are dozens of people wanting this phone badly they'll speed up the release.
Oh well, here I am hoping and crossing my fingers as each day goes by :fingers-crossed:

I am good as long as the price is not cross 6M mark.
No it's not luxury item tax, it still under consideration by government, not yet become a policy. and the pricing in non-play store country is almost the same because it sells by LG and warranty is goes to LG not Google.
I am not sure but G2 has better camera and more mainstream device here, who cares about Nexus here lol
I am not yet seeing any person using N4 here btw in Jogja.
I am pretty sure it is usable here, it's all the same except the cdma variant and LTE bands which is still not available yet here.
It's like nexus 4 case, a lot of people including me force them to release it quickly or at least give us the date but they still quiet until it's released back in January, I guess it will be the same in this case.
so we still has 2 months left to wonder about the price and release date, and there is still hope for dollar to get weak, and back to 10k.

how was the price of nexus 4 back then when it was released on indonesia?
I hope the price can be below 5m, it is retarded if it goes up to 6m what is that stupid tax someone said about? I mean I saw a lenovo k900 advertisement on kompas today priced at 4m, NOT FAR from ebay or another online price I saw from googling, thus if lenovo phone price can be reasonably on par with international 'standard', why can't nexus 5???
if the ridiculous inflated price do happen, what is the cause? don't tell me that phones taxes are somehow tied with the phones' specs, that is utterly retarded beyond idiocy
now anoyher matter is availability, will normal phone shops here have nexus 5? how about the services and warranty, who is going to cover for them?
also can indonesian buy nexus 5 directly from google?
I heard from singapore forum, we can order N5 from australia's google playstore and then get it ship to Indonesia.
I got friend that can buy me the phone and when she comes back, I can have my N5. But can it really work with our carriers?

Nexus on play store available country is subsidized by google, and in non-play store country get it from LG instead Google.
No, it's not the tax, it's nothing to do with tax.
Yes it will be available here, only the release date is matters here, I bought mine from Erafone while LG authorized centre doesn't even have it yet.

I don't know maybe it's the actual price before subsidized.
but not too long after initial release, about 3-4months i guess they cut the price to 4.999.000.
just wait couple months if you want more affordable price
I can't wait btw, two months is long enough for me. lol

sigh, unfortunately I can't wait, my current phone is dying, actually originally I've been waiting for these new high end phablets especially the htc one max but htc dropped their balls really really harf with such underwhelming specs, not to mention htc phones are as expensive as samsung here I think, one of the reason I was hoping for htc because of their sense, been a long time admirer of it since touchflo days with winmo but surprisingly never owned an htc device lol... just when I finally about to get one they came up with rubbish phone lol.
don't like the bloatware infested samsung phones as well as their annualy rising apple like insanely high prices
lg g2 is quite nice but I don't like their ui too, as well as their less than average software updates support
then there is sony phones, for some time I liked sony ericsson very much on the days of P800-900 as well as the very first xperia phone but their current fetish with water proof phones just put me off, report says they have terrible sounds as well as underwhelming display, I don't like the ui either lol
so in a way, nexus 5 is my last hope for a 2013 flagship phone, either this or I'll wait to see the next htc flagship which is probably still 6+ months away unfortunately
overall it's sucks to be in this position lol

it is normal for modern smartphone, only the downside for me is development, development on N4 is almost reach its max, and everything will be steady, no more surprise whatsoever.
I tried my friend's S4, it's hot when playing game, not N4 hot but it is plastic while n4 is glass.
try to undervolt the cpu it will be much cooler, never had any heat issue unless the phone is constantly searching for signal cause i am in poor coverage area which is pretty normal on any phone.
