Waterproof/Water Resistant Case - G2 Accessories

Are there any cases that are water proof or water resistant? The Otterbox Defender case says that it is not protective against water.

I think something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-Case-Pouch-for-LG-G2-Transparent-EX-/200968408213?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item2ecaa68c95 is going to be about it for now.

I've used this kind of waterproof pouches and they really do work flawlessly, they are incredibly convenient for trips to Sea World, Disneyland and Waterparks, however they're kinda disposable after using for a few days!
Word of caution!
No matter if you use them in water parks, pools or sea and wash them thoroughly after each use, they will eventually leak after just a few uses. So be careful and use common sense. Don't submerge them more than a few feet. They work best for splashes, pool area, rain, etc, but not under water!
Tip: Try not to take your phone in and out many times during each use. Remember, it's just a glorified sandwich bag, it uses the same kind of Ziploc (TM) to seal, but the corners (where both sides of the ZipLoc meet, degrade quickly).
Cheers!

Poor diamond...

Diamond gets thrown around!

Haha...I think they took it a bit too far at the end, but it's good to know that it can survive being thrown deliberately at the ceiling, then falling to the floor, unscathed.
droping
I'd have love to have seen it being dropped from about 1.5meters on concrete
my XDA II died a horrible death to such a fall and ever since when walking about with my orbit i live in fear! But that is still impressive assuming it worked, the screen was only viewed at black so damaged crystals are are to see.
Probably explains the fact that carry case is not in the box and is optional. If the surfaces are that scratch resistant, then carry case is unnesessary. at least if you are not planning to carry your diamond phone in the back of your truck or in plumber's toolbox
It seems that the case is mainly for cleaning the device, rather than protecting it.
there are some cheaper alternatives around: cloth, tissues, shirt, pants, jeans, jacket.. rubbing phone against cotton shirt ore any cotton fabric does it nicely for me. I am carrying Excalibur around at the moment. looks nice and clean after almost 2 years of daily use.

I would still like a belt clip case - I doubt putting it in my pocket would be a wise thing...

I dropped my case enclosed Note 2 and...

So I'm looking at Note 2 cases and want something not too bulky but provides protection from accidental drops.
All these "I've dropped my Note 2 and it cracked" threads are freaking me out.
No case review site has test drops, so I'm looking to you and asking that you share your stories about dropping your phone, if it survived, and what case you had on.
I haven't seen a thread like this before so hope others will find it useful.
I personally have seen the Otterbox Defender on a friends Note2 and he dropped it many times with no problems.
However, that thing is ginormous, and doubles the size of the phone.
I'm looking for something that'll still fit in my pocket.
So my question to you:
1) what case?
2) dropped on what surface as how high?
3) what happened?
- nothing, works great!
- cosmetic damage, but screen good, works well.
- screen cracked...
- screen fine, but internal damage affecting functionality...
Thanks for your time!
go look at note 2 otterbox vids.on youtube... dude throws it out the second story window etc.
Cruzerlite. Had dropped out of the hip pocket of my sweats and I bent over to pick up a piece of mail I dropped out of the mail box. Was a pretty short drop, probably less than 2 feet as I was fully bent over when it fell out, and never in a million years would have imagined that small drop would have broke it. Not a bad break, just a hairline crack going from the home button to the ear piece.

Read the OP, he doesn't want anything that large.
Back on topic: I've dropped my note 2 about 3 or 4 times now, all without a case, all I have is a small, barely noticeable scratch in the chrome bezel and what I noticed the other day is on the bottom right corner the chrome seems to have been rubbed off somehow. I'm now using a samsung the case, seems like it'll provide pretty good protection for its size. It completely covers the chrome bezel, and the outer edge is a softer material so it should do some (albeit not much) shock absorption while the back of the case is hard plastic (and a fingerprint magnet, this must be why there's no black note 2 although one would have looked brilliant.)
I should also add that I've pretty much always dropped I on a wooden floor, which is a bit more forgiving than tiles or concrete

Hope that doesn't happen to my diztronic case that I bought. It's pretty similar to the cruzerlite case that you have

The problem with this thread is all drops are different. Unless you get enough sample of a certain drop for a specific case , you can't really generalize. The best you'll get here are a bunch of anecdotal samples.
For the most part though, the thicker the case, the better the protection. So get the thickest case you're willing to tolerate.
swyped all these spelling errors from my galaxy note 2

Supposedly Tech21 has a line of cases for the Note 2 that has D3O strips that turn rock hard on impact to prevent damage to the phone on drops. The D3O material works much like cornstarch and water, which turns hard when you press on it.

If you're super scared of your note 2 breaking, maybe get a wallet type of case?
I've dropped my note 2 three times. The first and second one, it was in a wallet type flip case, after the drops, it was scratch-less.The third time I dropped it was when it was on a jelly case. I had it gripped by my armpit when it fell on the ground face down!! It was raining then too so I did panic quite a bit. Fortunately, my note 2 survived that fall without a single scratch too >
I'm only 5'2 so that may not be much of a fall. -__-

oh wow, that's actually pretty amazing, are the strips enough though? looks like they're the thickness of sticky tape.
is the entire case not made of the stuff?
they make cases/bumpers made out of d30..how come the note only gets 2 tapes on the back?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtMNfSHfkv4
I bought the Tech21 D30 for my Note 2 before watching those videos, and I'm extremely happy with the case. I don't drop my phone often or anything, but I like to have something on the back to prevent scratches and dings from laying it on various tables, etc. The two times it has dropped 3-4, there are virtually no signs of it. The case grip could be better but then it wouldn't slide out of my pocket easily so there is always that trade-off to consider.
I'm ordering a wallet case from Story of the but I'm sure I'll continue to use this case as well due to how it keeps the phone fairly thin and manageable.

Why don't they make a bumper style case with a pinky-finger-thick bead of this stuff around the edges? Might add bulk, but I'd think it would be far better than any silicone or hardshell case.
If you find the OtterBox Defender too bulky, try the Commuter. It's thinner and still provides ample protection as it's a two piece case made from a silicone layer and a poly-carbonate hard shell. I can vouch for the level of protection they provide from past experiences (I had one on my GALAXY S II and dropped it by accident, landed face down and I was petrified that it would've damaged something... not so much as a scratch).
I have one on my GALAXY Note II and it fits very well - the buttons retain their tactile feel and "click" and it doesn't make the phone harder to hold or use in any way.

in the tech21 case, it works well since its a different layer and it just distributes the force evenly across the layer to minimise damage.
with other cases though, hard cases are a double edged sword. hard plastic and metal cases may be pretty to look at, but hard plastic and metal cases also amplify vibrations, which can cause damage to the internals of your phone and to your screen. normally i'd say avoid cases where most of the hard material is in direct contact with the case. ie. only go for hard plastic if theres a silicone/tpu layer between the plastic and the case. and only go for aluminium cases/bumpers if theres a layer of soft material between the metal and the case. this way, the vibrations are dampened before they reach your device.

Dust proof note 2 case ?

The best case so far is the Griffin survivor knockoff but it is very cheaply made. The screen protector scratches very easily. Does anyone have an idea where I could get the material used for the screen protector that Otterbox uses ?
Otterbox defender has a good quality protector but unfortunately it has cutouts for the home button as well as the top Speaker.
ARE there any other options ? Does anyone have any ideas how to dust proof the Otterbox?
Dust definitely is a problem with this case. I end up taking it apart to clean a couple of times a day, which sounds worse than it really is, even to me - When I think about it, I'm like, "Ugh, what a pain", but then, after, I'm like, "That wasn't so bad".
Anyway, in response to your question, I do have an idea, but haven't tried it and probably won't because I don't mind the cleaning.
You could cut to size and glue rubber washers to the inside of the screen, outlining the cutouts.
Tape. Put a small piece non sticky side up over the home button opening then tape it down from the inside do the same with the speaker cutout and use a needle to perforate it. If you're good with an exacto knife you could cut colored tape to fill the opening then use a small strip of crystal clear packing tape to seal it into place. It's cheap and easily replaceable when dust gets stuck to it. It'll serve 2 purposes of helping block the dust and catching what sneaks by.

Some people work in environments with lots of silica dust which will destroy the screen in no time. It's no fun to have a hazy scuffed up screen on your $700 phone.

If I worked in an environment prone to dust/sand, I'd have an otterbox no doubt!
I don't mind a few scratches on my phones body/midframe but my screen must stay relatively pristine. Scratches on my viewing area drive me insane  luckily I have an office job, but I do live in Florida and there's lots of sand around to wreak havok on your screen. For that reason alone I never put mine in a pocket cuz I prefer my glass naked, so I use a microfiber/microsuede lined leather holster with the bottom corners open so the sand and dust can fall out easily.

Defender for Note 2 won't save you from dust. For someone working in such harsh environment, I wouldn't even recommend getting N2 but rather S3 with Otterbox Armor soon to be released. Seidio OBEX might work as well. But those are not for N2
+1 for survivor case..that is what we can get for now on our note 2..

I guess I don't see how taping over the speaker and the punching tiny holes in the tape solves anything. Also tape would peel and get dirty. Just put a quality sp on and buy a good case, then leave everything else up to the gods.

Tape costs a few bucks for a big roll. When it peels you replace it, same with getting dusty. Thats the whole point of using tape so the dust sticks to it instead of getting and and being able to move around. As for perforating the tape, a few small holes is much harder for dust to get thru than a large opening, but will let the sound thru fairly well. Obviously you've never had to protect electronics in a harsh environment. One of the most common things done to protect ordinary electronics in the desert is put tape over the ports to prevent sand from getting in. Same in wet environments only you use heavier tape like no residue duct tape.

Yes obviously, because you know me, I've never had to protect my device in the desert.
But you would be wrong, I did 4 combat tours in Iraq and I never had a problem with a screen protector and a case. I been in sandstorms so bad you couldn't see in front of your face and I've never damaged a device. So before you go assuming things that you know nothing about maybe you should stop and think before you put your foot I your mouth.
In fact I still have the ipod I took with me and it works perfectly, as did my mates.

My G2 Nano technology screen protector

Hi, a few days ago I bought and applied this nano technology screen protector on my g2
Anyone has try it?
Is it really scratch resistant up to 9H???
I just bought it because it seem convincing,
and many of my friends use it too
And they scratch their screen with keys to prove it to me....
And it really had no scratch..
I'm just curious
This curiosity killing me'

I had my doubt, and curious badly..
Maybe I should try scratching my G2 glass with key to prove it...

Looks like they are made by a japanese company and they have some crazy s***! I saw a screen protector that literally looked like it was made out of water. They tried scratching a phone screen protector with a brillo pad and also with a steel wire brush but the screen protector just "formed" back like it absorbed the scratched.
This stuff looks like the hybrid nano ceramic car paint sealants you can buy. They basically form a glass layer over your paint that makes it extremely smooth and water resistant.
However, although very hard its also very very thin. Its resistant to minor scratching from grit and sand under low pressure, but it wont protect from a drop onto gravel like a plastic protector will.

thanks for the insight...
so it's still better to use plastic screen protector..
what brand that can you recommended for me???
This looks neat
This really isnt going to protect very much at all. All it does is make the surface slick so that most abrasive things slide rather than dig in.
All ive ever used is cheap screen protectors from eBay, packs of 5 or 10 for a few $ or £. Expensive ones are no better and the wet ones are hard to fit, sticky and wont protect any more anyway.
I think unnecessary, just advertising ..

How do you clean your phone?

Mostly I want to know how do you get out the tiny particles of dust that are stuck between the display and the rim of the phone? If there's a way...
I bought something cheap like this, the bristles are soft enough not to damage anything but hard enough to remove dust etc, from grooves, creases, etc. https://ikuraexpress.co.za/products...Hx7oPDMNT7zwY61mtwlsY55NKtYXF1ARoCV6YQAvD_BwE am sure you can find something like this on ebay etc. works very well.
I use large medical alcohol wipes personally, you can get them in the grooves to clean them out.
I just use a microfiber cloth. It seems to clean it pretty good for me.
I wash it with the same soap I wash my hands.

I wouldn't do that; soap almost completely removes water's surface tension, and in time it may seep through the water resistant seals :crying:

Maybe, but I don't wash it daily, maybe once a month and I did the same with all of my previous waterproof phones and had zero issues.
A drop of soapy water on the screen, making sure it doesn't get into the seams. Then a clean microfiber to the entire phone.. I take the case off and wash that with dishwashing soap. I do this every couple of weeks, though I know many people do nothing other than wipe their screens occasionally.
Anything except plain water, any solvent, alcohol, soap (with or without neutral PH), detergent whatever..DAMAGES the coating on your display. That coating that is oleophobic should have last several months if you were not washing the phone with ...whatever you're washing it. STOP DOING IT!!! For you, those that already did that, there's no turning back but at least some others that have brand new (or almost new phones) will read this and won't try all kind of liquids to clean their phone display and in fact doing worse.
If you really want or need to clean it, use only water then a soft cloth (limp free) or a microfiber one to absorb the moisture. Eventually you can use an air blower to blow remaining water droplets from USB port or any other openings.
P.S. You might try after several months (when the initial protective coating has gone) to use an oleophobic coating like FUSSO. There are also some other liquid protectors that claim to increase screen hardeness to 9H (too many to count) and have an oleofobic or aquafobic protection too. You might try these as well if they have good reviews or is a known brand you trust (Spigen for ex has something like this). This new coating won't be as good or effective as the original one, nor it'll last the same (don't belive those 1 year/2 year "guarantee", it'll probably last like 3-6 months), but at least will make the screen attract less fingerprints.
TIP: Fingerprints are mainly "grease" so if you can, better use an OLEOFOBIC protection rather then a aquafobic protection type.

While I agree with the science and I thank you for spreading this knowledge, I don't think folks here on xda ever keep their phones long enough for it to matter. Not to mention the amount if folks with screen protectors on their device. ?
