I unpacked both Philz & TWRP 2.4.2.0
I place the 'kernel' file of TWRP 2.4.2.0 in the folder from the unpacked Philz
Then I packed the Philz folder. It doesn't work when I flash it. It's stuck on the white screen.
But I have absolutely no experience with these kind of things. I just wanted to experiment.

no and no.
basically they are from the VIVID, and are not CWM at all, as indicated in the thread already.
if you want to build a rom, you need to download the RUU for your phone, extract the rom.zip out of it, and work from there.

Information was not clear. Have you flashed any custom ROM yet? OR running on stock ROM and flashed the kernel?
First download and install a ROM and then flash the corresponding kernel.
I think I got his problem..... You need to flash a custom ROM to upgrade android version actually. That android upgrading screen is because you wiped dalvik cache

It is not a pre-requisite. It doesn't need 4.1.2. You just have to flash the ROM. It will automatically say that version.
By the way, I flashed with JB 4.2.2 the same day and running on the same.

The overall look and feel is much smooth. I haven't discovered many bugs yet, but if you try to change widget buttons (which I generally used to do in CM10 build#3), then the quick settings (in the notification drawer) won't simply work.
Overall I am happy with it. So I will stick to it for some time.

Recovery update question

Hello,
I have had my Verizon G2 rooted for awhile now but no recovery. Now that it seems that they have stable asop roms, I might load one of those up. I added TWRP with autorec, but how do I upgrade to the lastest version of TWRP? I tried flashing in TWRP, but it failed. what have others been doing to keep updated with the latest recover?
Thanks,
Keith
I wouldn't bother. AutoRec installs 2.7.0.0 which is good enough for all ROMs out atm. Seems to be a bug in 2.7.1.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449679
