[Q] Can I use Skype on 3 in unofficial ROM

Hi, I am in the UK and with 3. My galaxy S came with the Skype on 3 and it can call phone numbers for free. (You still need Skype credits.) I think the way it works is it actually dials a 3's service number and then you get redirect to the phone number you want to call.
My question is:
1) If I flash to other ROM, can still use Skype on 3 for free? I make a lot of international calls by Skype...
2) Can I flash back to 3's official ROM?

thanks... but that's not what I'm asking, my galaxy s does come with 'Skype on 3' which is a specially made version for 3

I tried fring and even the voice was a disaster...

voiceIP only it seems
also it FORCES YOU TO TURN OFF WIFI so that you can only use GPRS/EDGE/3G to use skype
so that was the deal, so that you can't get away of their data plans
IMO it's useless if you can't use it on WiFi
i'm going back to Fring for Video to Video chats

Is there any trick to use video chat (besides fring) on yahoo/gmail/skype with a PC?

Same for me in South Africa on 3G

it'll only work if you are using the "3 network" from UK
you can install and run it, but it wont let you connect to make a call

I cannot transfer the application to my phone, it says that the file format cannot be transferred, is there any other software I have to upload to my PC before downloading the application? I'm on 3 Ireland and they haven't release skype for this phone here yet. Also Phone is on vodafone but unlocked, therefore I do not have 3 Ireland d=software installed yet

Hi guys, I've one question for who is using skype on three..Did you notice delays when someone is texting you? i mean, i get like 30 50 minutes delay on each text...is that normal?

Marketplace Browser and Downloader for Windows Phone 7

Zune is a wonderful application for finding and installing Windows Phone 7 applications on your phone. The other alternative is to use Market Place application in WP7 handset. If have an HTC HD2 which doesn't support WP7 officially, but thanks to XDA Developers and DarkForcesTeam, I am running WP7 on this handset with no issues.
Initially, when I upgraded, I couldn't connect to Windows Market Place and browse or install applications because of Windows Live Services Registration (which I later resolved). So, I wrote an app to resolve my problem.
What this application does is, that it allows to browse for free apps on the marketplace, and download them to your hard disk which you can later use to deploy to your handset manually (developer unlocked phone or ChebronWP7 unlocked phone). The interface is pretty simple and serves the purpose. The only pending thing is automatically deploying the downloaded application to the device, which I will leave for a later date (anyone to help me out with this).

Used the excellent method posted on XDA Forums. Called Microsoft support for activation code and they happily gave it to me.

Yes install this one, it has the deployer built it. Only free programs.

Oooh noooo!! Same here...so sad, happily downloaded lot of promising apps...none of them can be installed.
EDIT: The first app listed in the first post is claiming that the device has to be unlocked. The second app listed in the post above is claiming that the app hasn´t a valid license.

Any ideas?

I do not know if this will work for everyone else.
But it works for me, so im sharing EXACTLY what I did.
Some things may or not be unneeded, but i dont want to leave
anything out.
Please post your results to we can determine if I
was just super lucky or it can actually get results.
1. Get a AT&T branded dumbphone, put your sim in.
2. Talk to AT&T ( live chat or talk ) and tell them you no longer have a smartphone , want to get rid of your smartphone data plan and want to dumb phone unlimited data plan. *important* make sure somewhere to include the IMEI of your dumbphone so they can manually put it in the system. Then let it sync for a few hours.
3. Now you will need to put your sim card into a smartphone that AT&T does not have the IMEI in their database. EX. I used a radio/sim unlocked droid 3. Now run it for a few hours and let everything sync again.

4. After everything shows up that you have the non smartphone data plan ( go myatt on att's website ), and under your number you should not see your phone because it will be confused..
5. Put your sim into a AT&T branded smartphone. I used a iPhone 4 16gb.
If everything went correct, it should not automatically bump you up to a 3gb/month tiered plan.. In fact at least for me data did not work at ALL and said I was not subscribed to a network.
6. Contact AT&T and tell them your data is not working, and because that your on a nonsmartphone data plan and non on a smartphone plan.

One possible solution for "No Cast devices found."

This weekend, while trying to cast a tab in Chrome, ran into the "No Cast devices found." issue that a number of people have complained about. Thankfully, I found a solution quickly and without much frustration.
In my case, I had been running a VPN connection using OpenVPN on a windows TAP adapter. Apparently, when the connection is active, and therefore the virtual adapter, the Chrome plugin gets confused and starts attempting to discover your Chromecast on the VPN adapter. Once I shut down the VPN tunnel, the Chromecast was successfully discovered.
So, in summary, if you run into this issue, and are running VPN tunnel(s) and/or virtual adapters in windows, try disconnecting or even disabling those virtual network adapters.
Hope this helps someone else out there!

In my case it was a firewall, sorted it out by adding a rule to allow local access both ways, with all protocols.
I think Chromecast uses UDP.

I have McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention running on my PC, I saw some blocking messages in the activity log,
I then added a firewall rule as per the attached image

After that the Chrome browser detected the CC fine.
That was how I solved mine.

in my case it was not the antivirus
it was some kind of vpn because of the motherboard.
I had to go to windows device manager
and in "network adapters"
disable some virtual wifi miniport adaptes and also a bluetooth personal area network
after that it got detected in chrome

It's a stupid BUG I do have Hyper-V virtual switch ('cause I'm developing apps for Windows Phone), and damn Chromecast can't connect. Yes, disabling and removing all working network settings & virtual adapters will solve the problem, but it's not a solution.
Google MUST fix that bug 'cause there are lot of issues and people reporting the same problem!

Agreed. It's definitely an oversight to assume that the primary interface on the PC is the interface in which the Chromecast resides. The probably ought be doing discovery on all interfaces.

Tunnels/VPNs would definitely cause finding your Chromecast to fail. Disabling Hamachi, for whatever reason, resolved the issue on my laptop.

HUGE issue with Eclispe.

Ok, I spend almost 100% of my day yesterday trying to get this sorted out and I'm at the point of giving up, every different problem I went through at least 2 pages of googling and tried everything I could imagine and it's been futile up to this point. I would hate to put it off but the problem has been so bad I might have too. I'll go into as much detail as possible and any help would be VERY, VERY appreciated.
Ok, first off, I had the JDK, SDK, and Eclipse properly set up. The emulator was too slow and everything crashed so I decided to download VirtualBox by Oracle, and hook it up that way via ADB and it was a complete success, I was happy and ready to spend hours learning how to code.
Then one day, as out of the blue as possible, Virtual box popped some kind of error on me, or something along the lines of that, I can't remember unfortunately. But now after trying to re install it and deleting ".virtualbox" in my users folder, it now just freezes up upon starting up the software and I haven't been able to do a thing about it. It looks like on the surface I am able to still use Eclipse, I wouldn't think otherwise because they weren't supposed to be reliant on each other.I tried connecting my android devices to them but to no avail, they detected the devices but using adb connect "Device Name" it said unable to establish a connection or something along those lines, either way no information and my googling has came up NOTHING that didn't involve their devices not being seen either so their troubleshooting was to no avail too unfortunately. I said screw it and tried hooking up a AVD device. Every blank was filled in and I had it installed but "OK" was grayed out no matter what I picked and SURPRISE, it gave me no reason.
I re installed Eclipse (a.k.a deleting the whole folder and dragging a fresh one in). I received problems like "Failed to initialize Monitor Thread: Unable to establish loopback connection" When I attempt to add the URL and I used https:// and http:// But literately just now as I'm typing this and tried it, It seemed to work but these errors still get in the way:

I have firewall and antivirus disabled when attempted
I disabled Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface
I have a feeling VirturalBox F'd up a connection somewhere with it but I can't seem to find the snag.
Even in the preferences, It doesn't give me a lot to work with.

Ok so I read over the log and it mentioned something in the .android directory, I removed it and reinstalled eclipse and that removed THOSE errors but these ones now pop-up
