NANDROID on Rooted SM-900A? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I know we don't have an unlocked bootloader yet, but since we're rooted, is there an alternate way to do nandroid backups? Don't wanna have to redo EVERYTHING on my note 3 if I have to reboot or get a new phone

The best thing you can do at this point is use Titanium Backup or a similar app. Nandroid backups isn't possible just yet that I am aware of.

Backup app data without root?

I want to root my 7, but because you need to wipe data to do it I'm looking for the easiest way to backup app data without root. Is there any way other than in-app backups, which of course only some apps support?

That only backs up data if you have root.
adb backup - this should preserve app data (not apps though afaik). You can restore after you've wiped using adb as well.
Sweet, I didn't dare dream it would be THAT easy.

There is also a version of "MyBackup" that does not require root...I have it installed on an unrooted GS3.

Yes, there is. No, it can't back up data without root.
EDIT: It can only do that if the app you're backing up supports MyBackup's special backup.

What Can we do with a locked bootloader?

Can someone tell me what we will actually be able to download if bootloader remains looked? Can we flash certain types of Rom or mods? Or can we do nothing?

Should work the same as the S4 MF update that locked down the bootloader. You should be able to root but as for custom roms and CWM/TWRP we're out of luck.
Coming from a S4 running CM10.2 I'm not going to like using the standard rom but will get used to it I guess.
So even with the bootlegged locked we should be able to tour so we can use TB to backup and restore?

I have a locked MF3 firmware S4 and I'm running 3 different ROMs that are hot swappable thanks to Safestrap developed my Hashcode so even with a locked bootloader you can do something. Only thing is for now we are limited to internal storage for the ROM slots can't create them on external SD card but Hashcode has been working on that. Also we can only flash TW ROMs since we can't flash a custom kernel but that is also being worked on, I believe they want to be able flash a kernel with kexec. I have an AT&T S4 and currently swapping between an international Foxhound ROM, Google Play ROM, and well the stock ROM.

At this point I'd be happy with just root so I can use Titanium Backup.
Would be nice if we could get Loki.

Even tho I don't have any phone that has a bootloader. (i don't live in the USA Neither)
But if your Bootloader is locked you cannot Flash CWM or TWRP or flash custom roms (Because they need CWM or TWRP).
Sorry if I'm wrong. I don't have any phone with locked bootloader. Hope this helps.

Ditto... which is why I am returning my AT&T Note 3 less than 24 hrs after I purchased it.
My fault for not researching the bootlocker issue, but no way am I going to give up Titanium Backup. It has saved my tail more than once.
I'm also coming from an att S4. There has not been a bootloader unlock exploit but they do have some work around exploits like loki & safestrape. Loki is out bc they've already patched that so at this point I just hope we get root bc without that you don't have a fighting chance at custom roms

All I want to do is remove the AT&T bloat as well as the Samsung bloat. When I took my stock Note 2 and installed Cleanrom on it it felt like the phone got a cpu boost. Everything was smoother and faster.
With root, can we uninstall crap that is blocked from being removed while stock? I can live with a locked bootloader if I can just get as close to a stripped rom as possible. I'm pretty new to this stuff so forgive the newbie question.

how do i install CWM??

I just rooted my phone and now looking for CWM for sm-900a ATT. I just backed up my phone with Titanium back up. I would like to install spensoundsv6, but is show i need CWM. What other cool apps are you guys running on your Note's. Thanks for the help

Backup before Roms

Hey all,
I'm about to jump into rooting playing with some Roms. I wanted to know of the best way to do a complete backup just in case I want to go back to stock easily.
Thanks!

Problems with helium (non-premium)

Hi guys, I finally made the decision to root my z1,but first of all, I need to back it up. Problems are :
1. Sony pc companion backup is cr*p.
2. So I opted to using helium. Now, I got all settings up. Downloaded the pc counterpart of the app, downloaded the Android app from Google store, set up into debug mode. Helium requires my phone on PTP mode, which I do, but 1 second later, it comes back to MTP mode.
Did I miss anything? I tried downloading "drivers" from helium 's suggestions, but the one they have their is older than my SPCC.
Thanks in advance! I really look forward to rooting my device and getting it's benefits. Cheers!

I had the same problem, and I didn't find any solutions (I have Helium Premium). I ended up backing up my phone using Sonys software, just to be on the safe side. Rooting does not wipe your phone (at least not the method I used), but better safe than sorry. Unlocking on the other hand will wipe your phone!
After root, I installed Titanium and made all the backups I wanted. I also installed dual recovery (still without wiping the phone) and made a Nandroid bckup.
Titanium backup always work, use that in the future. It is worth the money, all others I have tried have been of no use

He's right. Move all files from internal memory to the PC and then use titanium backup. It's able to back up your entire phone including the application data. Duh. It can actually backup your entire device with system apps and it's data.
