Hi, battery and media problems - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I signed contract with optus in australia, it was all good, until i download some music and i use root explorer to move to sd card because by default it comes to internal memory. After i did it, i cannot see music songs that i just moved to sd card, and it starts lagging, reboot randomly and now battery drain overnight.
usually if i put stamina, overnight only cost 5% maximum, but lastnight was nearly 50%.
Check the battery usage.
If anyone have any suggestion why and how to solve it please give.
Thanks

You have some corrupt files on SD card and the media scanner is causing this battery drainage... You might want to backup your SD card, reformat it and check if the music files are not corrupt or anything before putting them back on the card...

Solved it by format the sd card, and yes, corrupted files i guess, very laggy when open the folder.
Thanks for your reply

[Q] Heating problem on optimus black

Hi all,
I brought a memory card of 8gb after putting it in my phone my phone started heating up even when browsing. Is this normal?
Yes heating is normal.
However I 've never heard of it associated with a memory card. It usually happen when playing HD.games or using wrong charger. Or even with original charge but doing works while charging. In short, heating is normal.
well there's a range for "normal heating" it may not be writen [well I don't know haven't read the manual ] but if the heat goes to a point where you can't handle the phone, then that's no normal thing

When your phone gets heated up to the point where there's a problem, it will let you know with a warning message. Happened to me once had the phone as gps on my car with 35 degrees outside and the sun was hitting it. Gave me a warning temp is too high. So yea.

Thanks man!!
Sometimes it heats up when you do multiple things simultaneously. It happened to me while having a comic book reader, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, Youtube and the browser open for more than 10 minutes. But only once, and it cooled down instantaneously after 10 minutes or so, without me having to close any of those apps.
Try monitoring whatever it is you're doing when it's heating. If you're multitasking vary the open processes you have open by killing them one by one until the heating problem goes away and you can locate the app/process that's causing the problem.
Another thing: try replacing the card. Is it a MicroSD or a MicroSDHC ? The HC standard isn't backwards compatible but it *may* work, causing instability though. What class is the card ? Maybe it's too high a class for your OB to handle. If i'm correct, Class 6 is the most it can handle.
Hope this helps !

Its a MicroSDHC card and its class 4.The heating problem happens only when I play some gameloft games which are stored in sd card for a long time may b for 1\2 hour.I think I need to replace the card...
Yup. Nailed it. I have a MicroSDHC myself. 8Gigs, Class 4, but I never experienced these issues myself.
Didn't your phone come with that stock, no-name Class 2, 2 Gigs card in the package ?
You could try that before buying a new card and see if it's the same issue...
Good luck !
me too have the same problem.
I am currently charging but it still drain the batt.
My phone reach 76% on charge but it turn to 74%, how could that possible?
check the battery stat, it says that media use 44% of battery but on that time i dont play any of media. just have 2 progs that run, dsp manager and easy task killer. this thing happen when I edit my configuration setting. use cm7 #20 and nova kernel V11c by Knzo.
could anyone help me?

Try to calibrate your battery if the battery stat showing you the wrong way
And for the battery stat thing, i'm pretty sure that's a "since unplugged" usage, that means you ever open the media since it unplugged and it used 44% from the showing stat

CPU stays @high freq - Phone heats up - Battery plummets

Hi there
I got my Z1 last friday.
I played with it with a prepaid sim (new provider testing ) up until monday's night (had my nexus 4 coming along still).
I quickly updated to the newest firmware and then learned that it can't be (easily) rooted (but that is another story).
I had it with a manually set wakelock and constantly pinging google the whole monday, and battery rocked like a beast, temperature and cpu were fine.
When i got back home, i formated an old sdcard (not that old really, it's a 16gb class10 card i got from UK), dropped my 4.6gb of music, titanium backup folder (hey, i hope root comes eventually ) and my helium backup folder (somehow my nexus 4 with 4.3 made folders instead of individual files and helium on the z1 does not pick them up...)
I left my phone, that had 12 hours of NOT deepsleeping, pluged into my pc's usb for charging (SD Card inside too).
Today i noticed that it had charged almost.. nothing
Then on my trip, with it using the postpaid sim card, with my current plan, and different provider, i noticed it was kinda hot, and battery was draining rapidly.
I downloaded "OS Monitor" and saw a process taking up 30% of cpu time/power. "memory", was the process.
I rebooted, and same thing, but this time "DRM Protected content storage".
Another reboot, and same thing, with "downloads".
Most of the time when i open OS Monitor it displays the package name (it includes "media" in it), and then turns to one of the others i mentioned.
CPU Spy plus says my cpu stays at 2100 or so mhz.
I am not sure what to do now
I left it off and charing.
I failed to mention that i had installed dropbox, box, press, pocketcasts and maybe some other app that i am forgetting, that i did not have the initial monday.
Now i turned it on again and the process killing me is:
Download Manager
Process: android.process.media
Status: sleep
Cpu spy plus: 50% 2150, and a little on 2 lower (but not 300 or deepsleep).
Phone is hot, usb connected, and i am not sure if keeping charge or dropping.
Will try removing the sd
Removing SD Card did nothing.
Just noticed that in the running apps, under "media" i have 1 process and 2 services.
The process i also named Media and it is using a wooping 600MB
DeviceStorageService and MediaScannerService are running.
---
Now that i remember, i had the SD Card with music and titanium backup in my phone from day one (i even listened to music in my car using Bluetooth).
What changed was that i tried copying the Carbon folder, and it dissapeared after restarting, twice. Then i tried on PC, same stuff.
I fully formated my SD card and added all the files again, this time it remained there.
ps: i have windows 8.1 at home
I just noticed that i now have way less free space on my internal storage, and there is an app called "media storage" that is using 2.63 GB
And if i am not crazy, it is slowly going up.
I Think something got terribly borked here
EDIT: ok, thought i was crazy, cause when i started typing this i thought it said 2.53gb. But i was not, by the time i finished writing it was on 2.9 gb!!
EDIT2: i wiped data on that and now everything MIGHT be ok
I now rebooted and that "app" is using 2.69MB (not gb this time) and in the processes tab, only 9mb (not 600).
No overheating or hi cpu usage.
Dunno what might have triggered this, nor know what this "app" is for.
Seriously, factory reset that phone. Some software malfunction going on. Also, backup that sd card to your computer and wipe it.
Start from scratch basically

Ya, i will most surelly do that and install that deodexed rooted rom that's the latest version...
I want root, and want to be up to date
SD Card is fine now, fully formated (not quick).
Everything worked fine after wiping that "apps's" data.
Now i noticed that i CANT DELETE files from my sdcard from my phone...
And i no longer haver another one to test
Out to get a new one before wiping the hell out of my phonE ?

[Q] Sudden decrease in battery life without software change

Hello!
Please allow me to introduce myself - I am a long-time xda forum lurker, who has not had the chance to post due to the fact that I am neither an expert, nor have had any questions that weren't covered by a simple search.
However, the day before an interesting thing happened to my P880. Without updating the software, due to the fact that my operator does not support it, battery life suddenly plunged significantly. In fact currently when charging, it discharges faster than it charges. So the only way to use it is to turn it off, charge it and then use it for a couple of hours.
As I said my software is stock and I haven't changed it for almost a year since I got the phone. It's version is "LG-P880-V10h-NOV-19-2012" with 2.6.39.4 Kernel.
That is what makes this issue even more interesting in my opinion, I cannot find a cause for it.
I note that the phone is warm to touch, so something is wake-locking it. However I am not an expert, but I will do my best to provide additional information if I can.
Thank you very much!

First of all download BBS and see what is keeping your phone awake. If you say that the phone is always warm than that wakelock seems as logical culprit. Something is keeping your phone stuck on high frequency and keeping it from deep sleep. Use BBS, you will know more after that..

The awake time is 9%, similar to what it was before, however the prone has been woken 872 times by System(radio). At the moment the phone lasts for 3 hours at most, while being charged at the same time.
Check your radio settings, maybe it is connecting to network all the time. Also you can freeze it..

Thank you for your quick response,
I force stopped the radio from the applications, and I had tried that before as well, however there is no noticeable difference, I can still see % drop by the minute.
Maybe it is battery malfunction..
Can you provide a dump from BBS?

radio isn't fm radio. it's needed for signal, dont freeze it
Issue is resolved by removing the external microSD card.
Now that was unexpected...
I haven't tested it with another SD card if the problem was in the card or in the phone itself.

is there any songs/videos in the SD card? i think the problem is with android's mediascannerservice. happened a lot. try checking the micro sd card for errors using windows.

It can't open the micro sd card from Windows. It simply isn't there.
Yes there were videos on it.

well, there's your problem. it was the mediascannerservice on android. the thing that scans the storage for media files for your music player, video player etc. it will go insane when your memory card is corrupted or damaged, which looks like what has happened to your memory card.

[Q] Can't find a file (Media) that's killing my battery

I did the Towelroot, but my battery usage is absolutely gone to pot.
I checked under battery usage, and it shows a file named "Media" that is using almost 50% of my battery. I can literally see the battery percentage drop 10% in 1 hour - with no usage. I can actually see it dropping before my eyes. Otherwise, the other functions are working great.
I installed Titanium Pro to freeze some bloatware, and at the bottom, I can see two files that are greyed out with lines through them. "Media" is one of them. The other is imsqmisocket. I didn't delete these or freeze them, but they appear to be removed from my system. When I click on them in Titanium Pro; I have no option to restore, or undelete. The imsqmisocket doesn't seem to be listed at all under battery usage.
Any ideas about what "Media" is, how it may have been deleted / frozen, and why it's drawing so much battery usage? I haven't been using ANY media type functions, but it's gobbling up my battery.
The rest of the battery usage seems normal for other applications / usage.
Thanks for any help.
Edited to reflect: In all fairness; the battery issue existed before the root. I'm just trying to resurrect this $700.00 paperweight. I just didn't think it was that bad!
have you loaded any app that can provide wakelock info? that's the best way to identify what app it is.
Wasn't there a problem in the Samsung tab 2 under stock that when the external SD card got corrupted it constantly attempted to scan the card for media consequently destroying the card and killing the battery? Maybe that's what is going on here

Anyone with battery drain issues this is what I did.

I was having problems with the phone discharging as fast as I could charge it. The phone kept identifying the media storage as the culprit so I went into apps and all the way on the end is all. In there I disabled it charged my phone to 100% then re-enabled and I haven't had very many problems since. I had read some where someone said it was all the Google apps so I went through and uninstalled the updates and that didn't help. So I kept looking and the phone kept telling me it was the media server so I tried it and bam I'm going to go back and reinstall all the Google updates and see if its still stable. I'll post back if it keeps draining...

are you using micro sd card?
you will face battery drain if the sd card wasn't formatted before using on the new phone.
Sometimes battery drain if you have .mkv video files or any corrupt files on sd card, phone will continue to index them and lose battery quickly.
Bingo I was thinking all of this came because I had just put my sd card in and it was working fine before I put it in. And I had removed it during this process. Thanks...
