Leaked Release Date for 4.3 - Galaxy S 4 Active General

According to this article on Android Police, AT&T is scheduled to officially release 4.3 for the S4 Active on Christmas Eve (12/24). This is just a leaked schedule so take that with a grain of salt, it could be sooner but more than likely it will be later. If you would like to try out a leaked pre-release of 4.3 for the S4 Active you can download it from this thread. Just remember that if you flash the leaked version of 4.3 you probably won't be able to get updates when 4.3 is officially released as has happened in the past.

Lol 12/24 is 2 months out.... I been sitting on the AOSP thinking I only had to wait till the end of October to get on the official release..... Looks like I will be running the 4.3 leak now.... By the time 4.3 is official on the S4 Active it will be obsolete.... Sweet. Thanks

I'm normally not patient, but 4.3 Doesn't have anything that I have been chomping at the bit for, so I will call it a Christmas Present. Yay!

I'm not seeing anything on 4.3 that makes me want to upgrade either. I would be wary of the official update though because I'm almost positive there are going to be issues rooting it which would cause problems with SafeStrap. If SafeStrap ever gets kexec working I doubt I will ever accept an official update.
I'm not sure where exactly this guy got his information, but his post seems to suggest that taking the new 4.3 update will make rooting exponentially harder.

Yeah I have automatic updates disabled since I rooted the phone and will wait until some other rooted beta tester makes sure it works and doesn't break root.

Do you have a link to that? I can't seem to find that date anywhere. The closest thing I've been able to find is that the regular AT&T S4 is getting the 4.3 update on November 13th.

You need to search and read. It's one of the basic principles of XDA and you'll find people saying that over and over.
For example if you start reading this thread from the beginning you might find your answer.

Well not to be an ass, but this thread mentions three different dates. So the question may have been for clarification purposes.

a NEW 4.2 version? OTA Updates suck

I rec'd my Nexus 7 Tab a couple of weeks ago. Immediately there was a flurry of updates landing me at 4.2. Today I rec'd notice there a new update had been downloaded and was ready to install! The new version? 4.2.
After reading some of the woes others have experienced with 4.2, I'm wondering if I have a "different" version of 4.2 (that works just fine.)
The constant stream of OTA updates is a pain in the arse. Can we get on a 3 month release cycle?

December bug fix they had to release before December started hence the update, it isnt usually that frequent.

Sign up with Verizon. You will be lucky to ever get another Android update.
Is this a serious thread? You're actually complaining about updates?
You do realise that these updates improve your device (new features & bugfixes). Are they really that much of an inconvenience for you?
10 whole minutes of downtime. The horror!
Yeah buy any android device that doesn't have "nexus" in the name and you won't have to worry about android updates anymore...

Maybe we are not getting 4.2.2, maybe we are getting 4.3

Android Police has uncovered evidence of android 4.3 in the works, most likely to be announced at I/O next month.
Could it be possible that 4.2.2 has been delayed because the awesome people at Sony are working instead on 4.3?
Probably not but it would be cool if Sony could be ahead of the development curve for once

I dont know how Sony is with their update but it takes Samsung FOREVER to update their phone. I been using CM10 so when they announce 4.1.2 I'm not even amazed or care.
I don't think Google would release source code (or whatever) early. And you can't assume from this rumour that Sony is waiting.
Sent from my LT15a using xda app-developers app
Even IF there will be a 4.3, we will get 4.2 first. IF there will be a 4.3:
1: It's not out yet (4.2 is)
2: Source codes aren't given out yet (4.2 source codes are)
IF 4.3 comes out then I guess we will get it before 5.0.
Way too many if's in this topic.

I think I wrote my post wrong.
AFAIK, only a part (not a good one) is sent to SOME companies (the biggest ones). The smaller ones don't get it so soon.
Seeming Sony is an AOSP partner I have no doubts their are People at Sony right now who know about 4.3, I highly doubt Google keeps their manufacturers in the dark until the launch day causing all OEMS to play catch up
It's been confirmed before that Sony is one of the key partners already working on the 'next' platform. They contribute a huge amount to Android compared to all the other manufacturers and it's going to give them the competitive edge some day.
I don't think so. Sony said that 4.2 update should be released soon after the phone's release, that means they must have been working on it for quite a while now. They won't just scrap their work and wait few months before 4.3/5.0 sources are released to start working again.
I think we'll get both of them, 4.2 in may/june and 4.3/5.0 probably 3-6 months after release - and let's hope it won't be wishful thinking.
I'd rather get 4.2 in a month or so than getting an hypothetical 4.3 in a 6 months...

hypothetical situations don't help but what does 4.2 really bring???? For the GNex is drastically reduced SOD but the Z doesn't have that issue.
If Sony turned around and asked and promised 4.2 next week OR 4.3 in 6 months I would take 4.3.
That said without a change log Who knows what 4.3 brings it may just be as useless at 4.2

But a hypothetical situation is what this thread is based on. Realistically it's a case of sit back and enjoy the handset as it is until Mr Sony pushes us an update. Some people are getting stressed out about updates. Frankly if it's not in my hands. I'm not worried about it. Just my opinion.

To be honest, XZ has "no use" for 4.2 - by this I mean there are no features worth the hype in it, and honestly I only hope for it to include core OS bugfixes and some XZ-specific fixes like WiFi performance etc.

There seems to be quite a few articles online saying that the Xperia Z is going to be one of the first devices to get KLP.. They even write it in a 'shocked' manner which I guess based on Sony's update history is rather appropriate.

The S4A is now 2 releases out of date and Samsung are still leaving their users in the dark.
Such a bad decision to get the active because it's so badly supported.
I heard somewhere that was problems with 4.3 and they go straight to 4.4.2. Cant find it again. Samsung i dont like this, we payed almost same price like S4 and we become much worse support.

So does the time of release of an update correlate to posting a changelog to AOSP? Like in the past how long has passed between changelog and update hitting 100% of phones? I am still assuming they are using IO to announce the release for some reason.

I think this KitKat update is coming before Google I/O conference in June. Remember, back in March, Android 4.4.3 was first rumored for mid-April. U.S carrier Sprint even jumped the gun and posted 4.4.3 OTA update promise "now" in mid-April, then sheepishly had to remove it from their public pages a week later. Of course we are now well into the month of May... Not sure why the delay, but I still think it's coming before I/O.
But I think 4.4.3 is minor bug squasher KitKat update that will come before the NEXT Android release with the Nexus 8 tablet announcement at the I/O conference in LATE June (June 25 - 26). Remember product "announcement" does not mean "release". Nexus 8 tablet and next version of Android will be announced at END of June, then will probably be released sometime in July.
Whatever is announced at end of June I/O will NOT show up before July. I just can't see this 4.4.3 waiting until JULY.
It's getting close to I/O ,the 4.4.3 ota is still not released....

Yes, but 4.4.3 will still probably come before then (I/O is June 25) -- because whatever is ANNOUNCED at I/O will not be RELEASED until July. We are now in the first week of May. 4.4.3 could still be released next week as bug squasher update.
Then in late June at I/O, Nexus 8 tablet and next version of Android ANNOUNCED. Then in July Nexus 8 tablet ships with NEW version of Android, the one AFTER 4.4.3.
I just can't see Google waiting TWO MORE MONTHS to release a basic bug fix update. So far from the changelog, that's all 4.4.3 is. Surely with Nexus 8 tablet they will want at least a couple new features as selling points.
Also U.S. Sprint wouldn't have posted the 4.4.3 announcement page back in mid-April if the release wasn't imminent. Sure they jumped the gun, but they were apparently led to believe it was coming then. I still think it's coming before May is over, due to flurry of Google app updates.

No, because Google never posted a changelog to AOSP before. While it is exciting, the changelog was posted 3 weeks ago and hardly means anything is imminent. Plus, the changelog is very flawed in that it shows all changes since 4.4 not the last release. It seems the posting to AOSP was an accident I would imagine.

Oh I don't know. It's not like Sprint RF engineers and testers have Spark enabled Nexus 5 running around for months which is explicitly included in the 4.4.3 update..
Fact is Google have to coordinate the rollout of 4.4.3 with their partners (carriers) to make sure the phone doesn't screw up anyones network. Google told the carriers (Sprint) that their update was ready and they're about the push it.
Sprint is notified and have confirmed that the update that is relevant for them (activation of band 26 / 41) is completed so they put the change log up. Google or one of the partners finds a problem and halts the rollout before it begin.
So now we all wait.

Hi guys
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a totally stock 2012 nexus 7 on 4.4.4. It's wireless not 3g and I'm in the UK.

As far as we can tell, and other complaints in other forums seem to confirm, they stopped pushing the update to Nexus 7. Why? We can only speculate. The ways of the Great Google are Mysterious. We are mere children and should not question the Great Google in His Infinite Wisdom.
If Google pulled off the update to fix performance issues some people have been reporting, I'm completely ok with that.
Know it took my wife's N7 2013 quite awhile to update to lolli. Think it was just a few days ago. Just have to be patient as it will come.

Are you really in THAT big of a hurry to turn your Nexus into a useless piece of garbage? Because that's what will happen after you put 5.0 on it. Hopefully the 5.0.2 image they pushed today will resolve the performance issues.

The 5.0.2 update definitely fixes the performance issues from the initial update to 5.0. Happy with the performance I'm getting. Pretty much the same as what I was getting under KK, which wasn't bad at all.
Initial boot into 5.0.2 might seems slow and laggy, but give it a few hours and it definitely clears up. That's with a clean update.
I didn't get the OTA. I just went to the Google images site and downloaded the official Google image and flashed it. I never got the LP OTA pushed to my device for whatever reason.
Agreed, 5.0.2 seems to have fixed the performance issues I was having.

Although "push" is a misnomer given how the tech actually works, in common parlance, available for download and manual installation is typically not considered a push. Just sayin.

"Android 5.0.2 has just been pushed into Google’s AOSP repos."
The 4.4.4>5.0 OTA is probably cancelled due to the known reasons.
The 5.0>5.0.2 OTA for the affected people on 5.0 is rolling out, check the other thread for the link.
They will probly wait to see if 5.0.2 fixes the stuff and add some OTA from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2.
