[TF701](new Transformer): possible battery issue?? - Asus Transformer TF701

Hi,
I recently bought a TF701. Two hours ago I was playing games on my tablet, which was at that time about 35% charged. The games I was playing were 3D (Sailboat, beach buggy blitz and No Gravity), as well as checking facebook etc. All of a sudden (without a warning) the tablet switched off. I tried to restart it, but all I saw was the empty battery sign. I hooked it up to the charger and switched it on again: the TF701 worked again as it should.
I'm using "SystemPanel" on active monitoring: the active monitor recorded this (2 hours plot) and this (8 hours plot), which is: a sudden, full discharge of the tablet... However, the hour before the discharge, there was no 'gradual' discharge monitored. To me, this is strange. Can anyone provide some explanation?
Has anyone else encountered this? And... should I return the tablet?
Kind regards!
p.s. there's not yet a dedicated forum for the TF701, so I'm posting it here. If it's the wrong forum, please inform me / move the post

update: I tried several things and I have reached a conclusion: the mechanism that monitors the battery does not function (properly).
What have I done? I recharged the device: at least I think it did... (indicator goes up to 100%) I then played energy consuming games: it works perfectly. However, the indicator does not drop: it remains at 100%. It does not matter whether I watch the stock-app or SystemPanel, it just doesn't drop... Now, I do like a device that has endless energy, but we all know that does not exist (yet).
I have tried a full factory reset (rebooting while pressing VOLUME down + power and then select wipe data), but it did not change: the indicator remains at 100%, even after watching several youtube clips and tried some games...
So the conslusion is a broken indicator, probably a hardware malfunction. So it will be a return... Fortunately, my webshop has real stores as well... Hopefully I'll get a new one.

You could try to use Battery Drainer by Dan Michlin from the Play Store (I would deselect the "vibrate" option when running it - seems a little excessive).
Run the battery down until it reboots, let it sit for a day or two and recharge.
If it still gives you wildly inaccurate readings I would return it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 4

Update: I have received a new tablet, so no more issues here.

!!Read post 14 (maybe solution)!! - Strange Battery Behaviour with battery tools

Hello
I have new diamond 2 for three days. It's very good machine, but i've one serious problem with battery. I try to explain the strange behaviour of it:
1) Battery life is too short. I have read in this forum, that battery life is amazing. I dont have this opinion. My topaz's battery life is about 3/4 of a day (standard using)
2) battery behaviour 1 - sometimes i have battery % value another than after restart. For example i have now 50%. When i do soft reset i will have 35%. After second soft reset i will have 42%. Maybe i have problem with battery calibration or something like that. Or ROM is bad.
3) battery behaviour 2 - many times my battery freeze at specific % value (for examlple 40%). At first i though that is amazing battery life. Buuut no. After few hours still was there value 40%. So i tried soft reset and i saw only 16%. I really don't know what is this problem about.
I tried ariel battery bar, which is very simple program and i didn't have problems with it in the past (when i had kaiser). But here was the same problem. Value on Ariel battery bar freezed too. After softreset there was another value. Maybe i will try hard reset in the future....Now i am trying to format battery with process of fully charge and discharge. Maybe it helps.
Has someone the same problem like me?
Detail of my official ROM:
ROM ver: 1.39.479.1 (47382) WWE
ROM date: 04/07/09
Radio ver: 3.43.25.19
Protocol ver: 61.20t.25.10U
Many thanks for help
PS: i had hermes, 2x kaisers in my past, but this kind of problem i haven't had til now. hmmm
Can you list any applications you have installed or is it still original and out of the box with no applications apart from the standard ones?
How did you perform your initial charge ?
I always perform mine by doing a full charge - letting it drain and then back on charge
This happens for the first week - even if it goes flat in the car, I will not plug it in the car charger until I get home and can do a full charge!
Once the first week is done, I charge normally which at the moment has been every 2 days
Did you do something similar?
I have read on here someone else having issues which is potentially down to the battery so it might just be you have a duff battery
thank you for quick response
Apps:
G-alarm
Total Commander
Core Player
Dictionary
MyLight
Nothing special installed. I think at first i must do a hard reset because i must exactly know if this will be on fresh ROM.
First charge - as usually - it was the same like you.
Now i am charging and here is the same strange problem. I am charging now for 2 hour and battery is only on level 50%. So, now i am going to do soft-reset..............few second...................tadaaaa i have 100%. This is not normal. Here is something bad.
But thanks for you help.

I was going to suggest the hard reset route - this would determine if its software or not.
I will say that charging from empty takes a hell of a long time on the TD2! I'm thinking without even timing it, that it is taking around 4-5 hours to charge up ... and thats on mains!
Are you doing a soft-reset while it is plugged into the mains to charge?
Also is it doing this on usb charge (try another cable and NOT the one supplied for the charger)
Have you been using Opera. If so how have you been closing it. Did you go to menue exit or just hit the X? I ask because I found that hitting the X did not fully close it and when I went back to it it was still at the same page and not relaoding my home page.
Also did you set X to close the programs automatically or do you have to hold X to shut the program down?
It is also my 3rd day with the phone but have used internet a lot and the battery seems to be good. I also have been playing lots of games. I have done an initial Full charge and let it drain.... A full charge again let it drain... and last night it got a full charge.... My battery is Full at the moment. Today I have used it mildly for the web.... Like less than 15 min and have played games for about 10. A few calls and that's it. I can say it's doing better than my Elfin has.

Good point - Just for your reference, in the settings menu > advanced settings> System> Task Manager > Button tab
You can set the X to close rather than minimise - I have always set this to be the case so that when I close a program, it does close!
i tried 3 different chargers. Nothing.
Now i am doing hard-reset. Soon i will report.
report-after hardreseting my topaz seems to be fine. Before hardresseting i fully charged my battery. now i am testing it...
hmmm. really interesting. after few hours of testing everything was ok. So i decided to test it with battery applications (ariel battery bar and another tools wich shows battery bar in %.) And here started ainigain the same problems. Can someone test ariel battery bar and test some soft reset? Please watch what happend after restarts with battery %. I tried 10x restart
and everytime was there another value of battery. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower values.....really annoying
Now i have uninstalled all battery tools and i am going to test again if everything is goog...
alkapone please inform us about the results because i kinda have the same problem here, and i am using batti.
i have a lot of applications installed (nothing to do with the battery meter), but i have GPRS not 3G signal, i am closing the programs normally, and i am exiting opera, and so on. i am using it a lot but i think it goes out kinda fast. i almost get 1 day by using it.
can anyone suggest a battery meter that actually works fine? i like batti
Same problems here! Looking at the battery-information tab: After 4 hours of use after full charged the battery is empty..
I have been using dciBattery and qwertyMemory and all seems to be ok.
I have copied the files to the storage card then run the files and set a shortcut in the windows startup folder.
Here is a link to the files
http://freewareppc.com/utilities/qwertymemoryanddcibattery.shtml
this program doesn't have any config ? i don't want to have the memory bar and i don't want to have that gradient thing.
i think i solve the problem - not sure for 100%
hello to all
i think i solved the trouble. when i have uninstalled every battery app, everything seems to be ok. and one statistic - i had today at 12:00(lunch) 20% of battery. after 8 hours standard using of the phone(few calls, sms, internet), my battery told me that it has 10%. i think it is veeeery gooood (8 hours=only 10% decrease of the battery).beautiful.
result - this case showed that some battery apps/tools causes problens with compatibility battery meter vs. these apps..,
list of apps which causes problems (my tests)
1) jimmyes greens battery fixes
2) ariel batrery bar
3) batti
this is not 100% solution. i am still testing.
please write your opinion.
i am going to try finix

I am using it since day one with my td1 and td2 and no problems so far...
Do you think nueDynamicClock and nueClock as well as TweakHD (with it's apparent powersaving options etc) could be culprits as well? I'm on 6 hours standby and 2 hours device usage and I've just hit 55% on my battery (trying out the app alkapone02 just linked to)
i have installed finix batt icon too. batti was battery crazy on this.
i will test tomorrow, i am fully charging it now and i am going to test how long it will last through the week
super. please test it and report here as usually. thanks

Xperia Z abnormal battery drainage and Wifi is DEAD

i bought my phone on 1st march and it was all fine (except the stamina mode led notification) until TODAY. I have experienced 2 sudden battery drainage on the same day and the battery can drop like 70% within an hr and the phone became VERY HOT. I have my stamina mode and location based wifi on.
Now my wifi and bluetooth is not working. I have rebooted my phone and switched off the location based wifi and trying to manually turn back on wifi and bluetooth but still failed! the wifi icon keep blinking but never able to turn on again. i also reset and erase everything of the phone and repair the phone once with the SUS. still NO LUCK!
I dunno if the abnormal battery drainage is something related to the location based wifi mode or the overheat killed my wifi or the wifi problem caused battery drain?. Has anyone experienced a similar issue? or just me? heres the battery screenshot.
Hi,
a member (November49) is having problems with their account, but they wanted me to post this for them in the meantime.
Hello mate,
I bought the Xperia Z the day it came out. I sent the first one back because I thought I was experiencing audio issues. The sellers claim they couldn't understand what I was complaining about, as they said caller audio was just fine.. but they sent me a new one anyway. I don't know, perhaps it is my network, because some callers sound muffled or like there is a separate layer of audio over their voices. I might change my sim card because the replacement unit is exhibiting the same behaviour.
Anyway, overheating and power drain. The phone was kind of ok. I was juicing it a fair bit because I watch movies, use the net, HSDPA+ constantly connected etc. All was relatively as expected, then suddenly, I was experiencing a massive power drain and overheating. Overheating while the phone was charging, really small increments in power when charging so it was taking forever, any use of the phone while charging would drain the battery (even though it is supposed to be receiving power), eg connecting to the net, watching movies, checking/sending messages, anything. The problem got so bad, I requested a second product return code from the dealer and was preparing to send it back.
Brain wave - "what if it was a software conflict with an app?". The phone is supposed to be some sort of behemoth and an app shouldn't have such an effect on it, but it was a thorn that felled St Jerome's' Lion. So I went over what I had installed recently and figured it may be a conflict with SystemPanelLite Task Manager. I immediately uninstalled it. Nothing.. no change. Eventually, the phone drained so badly, it shut down. I kept the charger plugged in, let it drink a little and powered it back up. I charged it to capacity. It was limping for a day or two, similar overheating problems and what not, did a second complete drain and shutdown, booted it back up.
Now it seems to be charging as normal, the battery percentage rising as it should, no extreme overheating while charging.. granted it warms up a little, but I'll take that over what was happening before. Tried streaming some video, watching native video, no overheating or exaggerated drainage. I think it's fixed. To be sure, though, I went to Sony's website, downloaded the software update tool, had it check my phone over, it said it was running the latest software, but I opted to do a factory reset and fresh install just to be safe. It recommends you do so if you are experiencing issues.
I'm in the middle of the fresh install now. If no one hears from me again on this issue, you can assume that uninstalling the offending app, draining and rebooting a couple of times and a factory reset fresh software install has fixed the problem. Well... that's what I'm hoping, anyway.
Good luck, buddy.
update: battery was heating up during use, not too much, but getting warm, losing about a percent every minute or two of watching video. Boxed it up. Sending back. I hope the fix worked for you as it did temporarily for me, but ultimately, I think I have a faulty unit.

Losing battery charge when tablet closed.

Anyone know why my TF701T completely loses all its charge, even when fully charged up, when i close the tablet with keyboard still attached?
I can fully charge it, tap the sleep button top left, close the keyboard, and then less than a day later it has lost all charge and then needs to be fully charged up again.
This is getting really frustrating, otherwise its a great tablet.
Android version 4.4.2
Thanks.
Have you tried a reset and see if the problem still exists without any apps on your tablet? I may be a problem with an app draining the battery.
Just started happening to me too

This just started happening to me a couple days ago. I take my tablet to work, it stays in my backpack powered on but not being used. Most days I get home and it's either still at 100% or at least in the high 90s. Two days ago when I got home it was at 18% and yesterday it was 15%. I'm beginning to suspect some app update is killing it. I haven't changed anything else. I don't have a keyboard. Running the latest CromiX 7.03.
This has been happening for at least 6 months, maybe longer.
Haven't tried a full factory reset and reinstall of apps - I was hoping it might be simpler than that.
No other android devices I have excessively drain the battery (Note2 phone, Nexus 7 tablet) - why should this tablet be different?
Have a battery monitor installed for about 2 weeks and no apps stand out having excessive wake locks. (apart from the battery monitor itself, which is to be expected )
Did you use Netflix?
There is a bug with Netflix that it completely drains the battery on the Tablet after it runs. The workaround I use is to reboot the tablet after I am done with Netflix

This has happened to me since I upgraded to 4.4.2. Since I had only just purchased the TF701T it had very few apps on it and I was able to observe some things via teh power and battery stats;
1. When stored in a bag the battery discharged throughout the day going from 100% to 20% in just over 8 hours
2. The TF701T had woken up every 5 - 10 minutes even when i thought it wasn't meant to
3. Wifi appeared to stay on when it was woken up as it used the most power
4. Google Play Services and Android OS initaited most of the wake ups (approx 70%)
I turned off Google sync and also now turn off Wifi manually when I finish a session. Now I am losing almost zero battery whilst in standby i.e. On with lid closed.
It was the same for me. The battery turned of in 8h without use. I tried to wipe and restore without result.
I re-calibre the battery with the app BatteryRepair. Now my tablet is 50% after 24h unplugged and 3h of use.
Hope it works great for you too.

Ok, quick update;
i wiped the tablet using the Asus tool, which removed all my apps and gave me a clean base to test from.
I noted that there was now no battery drain at this level, with google sync on and wifi on.
I then slowly added the apps i needed (probably over half of them I didn't need - this is always a good time to consolidate)
I then started noticing the keyboard battery was draining even while closed, but not as much as before.
Reading your above posts, i turned off sync, kept on wifi. I still noted a bit of drain.
I then just turned off wifi before closing (left sync on). No drain.
Also i noted, the mouse(pad) always now returns when i open the tablet from sleep.
So for now, i can conclude that the combination of;
having the new Oct 18 patch,
reinitialising the tablet, then reinstalling (& reducing) my apps,
and turning off wifi before closing/sleeping the tablet seems to have stopped the battery drain.
for now
ps. no, i dont use Netflix.
another update:
fully charged the tablet last night to 100%, turned off wifi, then closed the lid.
Opened the next day (10 hours later), charge still 100% on both tablet and keyboard.
Definitely looks like its the wifi, and turning it off before closing stops the drain.

That is what does it for me too.
Only this helped me
I found nvavp is used by NVIDIA's Widevine DRM proprietary plugins.
I removed all proprietary DRM plugins from /system/vendor/lib.
Code:
/system/vendor/lib/drm
/system/vendor/lib/mediadrm
/system/vendor/lib/libWVStreamControlAPI_L1.so
/system/vendor/lib/libwvdrm_L1.so
/system/vendor/lib/libwvm.so

TF701 battery life

I have had my 701 for almost two years, and it has a been a great tablet for the most part. I have had one issue, however, and that is terrible battery life. I rooted the tablet back in January and put a Lollipop 5.0 rom on it from this forum. Back in the beginning of August, I put the Zombie-pop 5.1.1 rom it. It has run smoothly on both roms, but I noticed that the battery runs down very quickly. It has done this since January when I first rooted the tablet. When I installed both roms, I wiped everything and started from scratch. I keep the screen brightness at about 30%, WIFI on, bluetooth off, location settings on battery saving mode (so GPS is off), am using the ondemand governor (Have tried others with no change), cfg I/O scheduler, etc. To give you an example of what is happening, last night I charged the tablet to 100%. This morning, I played a game called Astrowings2 for about 30-40 minutes. When I closed the game, the battery was at 63%! I can play this game on other tablets I own and the battery may run down about 10%. Is anybody else having similar experiences with the 701?
I will guess by the lack of responses that nobody else is having this issue. Maybe the battery itself in my tablet is slowly giving up the ghost. That is the only conclusion I can come to!

You are not alone with the battery problem. That is why I installed Zombi-pop in late September. At first all was great and power use was fantastic. Now it suddenly drains unexpectedly and it goes off entirely, so I never catch the event. I wish I could figure out what app is the culprit, but no luck so far.
I don't play games.
What is an acceptable battery drain?
Hello Guys,
Like so many, I am having issues with the battery life on my TFT701T. I am digging into it, using BBS. Over 12h, it goes into Awake Screen Off only for a few minutes (6mn) but the battery is gone from 100% down to 35% (both batteries, dock is attached), that makes a 6%/h drain.
What are your numbers? My tablet was sent back to Asus back in January, for a complete batteries replacement, and was then working fine. This issue appeared again lately (August, September), tried everything I read here, but I can't get better...
Thanks for your help

Gear S2 battery issue, drain in OS but when docked shows 60%

My Gear S2 operates as normal as it should, however even at idle, the battery drains rapidly. Once the unit is completely dead, I then dock it and it will say 60% charge, which I know is wrong given that the unit will not power on undocked, meaning the battery had been completely depleted. Unit charges normally but I think a bug is preventing it from reaching actual 100% since it believes 0% to be 60%. Is there a way I can fix this without tearing apart the unit or replacing the battery?
same issue
I'm having the exact same issue, did a factory reset today updated all apps still same. I use a basic watch face, turn brightness to 2, everything off except Bluetooth and can get about a day of use . Is anyone else having this issue and has a solution?
Battery dead
So update on this issue, (on the Gear App on the phones most updated version) I went to the basic watch face in gray scale, then turned off all notifications, under gear connection, I unchecked sync wi-fi profiles, and under about gear I unchecked marketing information. I'm not sure which of those if any made the difference but at the end of day one 16 hours of use I was at 70%. So on the second day I tried a colorful watch face with animations, and 16 hours in I was at 63%. So one of those changes I made may have fixed my issue.
I did uninstall and reinstall the app on the phone, as well as reset the watch itself, neither seemed to work until I did the above changes. Hopefully that will help someone, or at least help to find out what is causing the massive battery drain.

With all that I have done with my gear, most I was able to get was about 10 hours. Though today it did to something odd. It died completely like it normally does, (it dies anywhere between 3-10% ish, and when it does die, its completely dead) so I placed it on the dock. Two minutes later I check and it reports 34%, "thats odd" I think to myself so I undock it and power it up thinking I would get no more than 5 minutes battery life on it since it couldnt possibly have that much charge in two minutes. I also expected it to report a low percentage but it didnt. I placed it back on my wrist and it continues to run about 10 minutes later down to 25% and still going! I find it odd. My current leakage issue I think remains and might be why the watch doesnt last as long. I might end up getting a new battery and see. My top battery user: watch faces at ~45%, even if the face hardly came on, and I am using one with a custom background that is mostly pure black.
Drain
That does sound pretty weird. I had a custom watch face installed "Mr Time" and started with a brand new install and I'm slowly adding things back in.
I would suggest a fresh install of the phone app, and the watch, using the classic face black and white. If you can get similar results to what I have then one by one start customizing it. I tried a lot of things to get it to work, over several days and that's what worked for me. I even uninstalled all of the watch faces I want using from the app"i felt that Mr time was still running in the background, even though it probably wasn't.
Good Luck
