Operation - Trick Best Buy on Sale of Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 General

Here is an idea that requires everyone to participate.
Plan: Try and get Best Buy to sell you a Nexus 5 before official launch. Maybe they have stock already.
Action: Call your local Best Buy and act dumb. Tell them you want to buy the Nexus 5 and to put one on hold for you to pick up. Or walk into a store if you prefer and do the same. Ask them if perhaps they have a Nexus 5 sitting in the back of the store. Make no mention of the fact that it hasn't officially been announced for sale.
I forget exactly which phone was sold before it was officially released a years or so ago. I remember reading that this guy got a phone before time and he was a bit nervous about it but posted details online about it. So this is possible people! If you remember this incident and the phone remind us.
If everyone does it we might get lucky and have more info to share on the Nexus 5.
Of course report back if you are successful. It might even be fun to report the failed outcomes too. Be creative. See if you can snag an inventory screen shot. See if at least they tell you that they are back there but that they can't be touched.
PS - Don't be that guy. If you think this is a stupid plan be polite. Offer your opinion and insight in a respectful way. You can't say it isn't possible because this has happened before. Sure there are practices in place to prevent this. But all it takes is one rookie mistake and things go unexpected. This is all in good fun. We might get lucky!

Who told you it was going to be sold at Best Buy? I see you have a N4, did you get that at Best Buy too?

We don't know if Best Buy is going to sell the Nexus 5. But they might. They sell all the other Google products (Nexus 7, Chromecast, Chromebook, etc). We also know from a particular Canadian store that there is Nexus 5 inventory. So the Nexus 5 isn't going to be exclusive to the Play Store. None if this is definite for Best Buy, but it can't hurt to try our luck. Perhaps Google learned from the N4 launch that Play Store only sales is bad way to launch a product.
... And I got my N4 and N10 from the Play Store on launch day.

Are you talking about those end cap displays? I thought they were only for N7, Chromcast

I may try this tomorrow if I'm bored before work. Ha I'll report back.

Good luck! It worked with the Nexus 7 a couple months ago.

I bought the n7 2 days early at BB too...I saw the box up above in those locked cages...so I pointed and asked for it...worth a try I guess.

UK CarPhone Warehouse has 3,000 in stock according to a leak , I wonder if it would work there as in best buy? Does it depend on how clueless the staff is?

I think there is a definite possibility it will be sold at Best Buy. Google seems to be taking a different direction with this phone. More hype, and evleaks posted that it is going to be available on Sprint..

a friend of mine who works at BB as a manager told me they are expecting to sell the phone, but that they have yet to receive any units and might not get them until after its already out. This is on LI NY btw

If they're going to sell the phone it should be in their inventory systems; it's an easy thing to check.

Very true, that's why I find it's hard to believe that they'll have the N5 at launch. Someone should've posted a picture of the inventory already. I know I would if I was still there. (Like for the Wii's and PS3's.)

I'm pretty confident they are. I visit my local BestBuy yesterday and asked a customer service rep. He said he knew what I was talking about and went to ask his manager if he could sell it. When he came back 2-3 minutes later, he told me suddenly he wasn't permitted to talk about it because it's not official, so he couldn't legally converse over it. I'm going to try back at another location and see if I can get someone to pop early there, I also got my Nexus 7 2013 48 hours before launch just because I asked. Some guy went in the back and got it for me. Worth a try I suppose.

Hmm. I have a friend that works at BB.

16gb nexus 7 discontinued?

Well I was stupid and pre-ordered from Wal-Mart.com. My order status stated it would arrive today but that it hadn't shipped yet. I called their customer service and they said they had to cancel my order because my item has been discontinued from the distributor. Called gamestop and they said that not only are they out but they were told today they weren't getting anymore...anyone else heard this?

Definitely NOT discontinued. Supply issues certainly, but not discontinued.

I heard Asus is refusing to make anymore until those that have suggested it would have been better to have Samsung or Motorola make them instead, apologize..
In other news, it could be a national holiday in China, like it was during the long wait for the Notion Ink Adam, where employees agreed to continue working during New Years celebrations instead of going on their yearly vacation to see their families. Perhaps this time they see no benefit and refuse to skip theirs..
Second wave 8/30 or still waiting on the SD (street date) of 8/05?
NOTE: I called my Gamestop, they didn't have any, she offered to look in the computer to see which stores nearby had them in stock. Went to one and exchanged mine on the spot.
My Gamestop called me today to tell me my replacement came in.
I also ordered from Wallmart and checked on my order yesterday they said that it was ready to ship today. Than today I get a email and was told that they could not ship it yet. This was after they told me that they had them!

Yeah, I think at the price point more people went straight for the 16GB. I know I did, I didn't even consider the 8GB.
Honestly though with either model and an OTG cable and a little root work, storage isn't really a limiting factor at all. People who really want an N7 and can find a 8GB now should scoop one up.

LOL :silly:
It's not discontinued as mentioned, probably just temporarily out of stock. In Sweden we seem to only get the 16GB version sometime during September. I would have been fine with the 8GB but it doesn't really matter to me either in price or storage.
They might have stopped to address the screen and creaking issues. That's just a guess though.

I stopped by a GS the other day to see if they had any accessories for the n7, they didn't, but when i Asked them if they had any n7's the employee told me you had to have preordered one to get one and they wouldn't be getting more.
Doesn't mean Google isn't making more' just means GameStop won't be selling them.

Even if they halted distribution, there's no way it's being discontinued. I really doubt that any Walmart rep has his or her finger on the pulse, and the Gamestop guy only said that they were expecting shipments but now they're not.
It is possible that Google wants to put a hold on things until they reign in the build quality.

You have to educate the CSR's of new items at Walmart. They told me today that they don't have nor do they plan on carrying it. Then they opened the stock cabinet and I pointed at it. They didn't have a display up.
I got mine last night at Walmart and there is one box only in the cage so I went to grab it right away and go home happy.

Funny thing about Wal-Mart, they will take back anything, no questions asked, within a year.
Funny story about the funny thing above, Okla. State Univ. recruited a bunch of European women to play on their women's soccer team a few years ago. They all went to Wal-Mart and bought everything that they needed to furnish an entire apartment. When the season and semester was over, the returned everything down to the last spatula, for cash, and flew home.
I hate Wal-Mart with a white-hot passion, but when you need something at 3am, being able to go buy it at the near by Super Center is... grudgingly... pretty cool.
Wal-Mart is about the easiest place ever to return stuff. I wouldn't hesitate at all to buying one from there.

Perfect Nexus 7 Finally!!!!
I just bought mine from walmart When I went in they didn't have any out for sale but the website said they had them in stock so I asked the sales guy and he said they had them in the back. After buying one from google play and having severe light bleed it was nice to finally see what a perfect nexus 7 looks like. It looks great no light bleed, no dead pixels, no bad wifi and touch is responsive and colors don't look washed out, feels solid. I also got their 2 year protection for $20.00 it covers anything. So anyone with doubts about walmart might wanna give them a try.

NEEDED: Intel courtesy of someone who works for Wal-Mart.
The inventory information on the Wal-Mart.com that is accessible to the public runs two weeks behind. If you check today for Wal-Mart No.550756186 (the 16gb Nexus 7) it gives you store inventory as of 7/15/2012 (two weeks ago). Searching it for the dozen stores in/near 74105 (Tulsa, OK) shows that all 12 normally carry it, but are out of stock as of 7/15/2012. Well, no****, Sherlock. No Wal-Mart in America had any on 7/15, so this really just tells me that the stores should have it or get some soon. Based on reports in this thread that people are finding them in stock at their local Wal-Mart stores, I went to one here and called five others. None reported having any, but I'm not sure that they made much of an effort to search.
Surely someone who actually worked for Wal-Mart could access inventory info that's much closer to real time (like 24hrs or less). It sure would be nice if someone would tell us what to expect and which Wal-Mart's should have them.
For me, the cost of shipping is typically about the same as sales tax ($16 on the $200 model; $20 on the $250). All things considered, I'd prefer to buy from a local Wal-Mart, have the benefit of no questions asked one year returns and be able to buy a $20 covers nearly everything two year extended warranty. For me, this is preferable to $25 in Google Play credit.
Someone here woks for Wal-Mart, probably. C'mon, help a brother out.

I just ordered mine on the Walmart.com site and it was ready within a few hours. When I went in to pick it up, they said they still had about 12 more in the back. So it seems there may be some truth behind the Walmart Availability. Although, it wasn't displayed in the electronics department yet. Good Luck!

Nexus 5 confirmation?

So I've been having problems with my Nexus 4 device since I've received one, and now on my third. The usual over heating issues, screen blemishing, battery life issues, problems with people hearing me, etc. Have all been issues I've had with my replacements. So, I called today and told the young woman about my issues and I asked if LG has just dropped the ball on this product, in terms of manufacturing. It was a nice convo and she asked if I would like a refund. I said no, because I've had a Nexus 4 since November, and I felt it would be wrong to get my money back. She says let me put you on hold and I'll order a replacement. After about 30 seconds, she comes back on the phone and tells me I should do the refund. She said if I could wait a couple weeks with my phone and send it back, it would be "in my best interest". I jokingly said "ohhh so you're saying to get my money back and get the Nexus 5 next month!". Expecting the usual stating of ignorance on the subject, she just says, "yes, you can use the refund to get a new phone". I didn't want to get her in trouble so I basically said gotcha, thanked her, and now I'm getting a full refund. Google is so classy, and I wanted to share this with everyone.
So, the wait for the next release seems to be shorter than we expect (early October?). What do y'all think about this? Is this a sign of things to be soon?

All right, I'm going to be honest. I came into this thread expecting a link to some random website that "confirms" the Nexus 5. Thankfully, I was wrong.
That's really cool, man. I'm sure if she got found out, she could get in some serious trouble, so it's kind of cool to see a CSR looking out for a customer instead of staying quiet and keeping their head down. One thing to note though: I'm sure when you said "next month", the kind woman interpreted that as "around next month". I don't think she was actually quoting you a timeline, just kind of saying that it'll come out here soon so you should get a refund.
I've never had any of the issues stated. Maybe it's just bad parts or bad timing. But I'd never give up on my Nexus 4. I love that phone and I'd support it all the way.

Still I didn't release her name to protect her, but she was a very nice girl who understood my issues, and even confirmed that they existed. I get about 6 hours of usage. I probably use my phone less than average. I worm for VZW and use the GS4 more, due to LTE being faster than Net10. Anyone know a better prepaid service for the $? Net10 has been kind of slow recently... Google Now takes a while to interpret with 3 bars HSPA+. Proxy maybe the problem?

Wait, this is a conversation you had with Google customer service, or your wireless carrier? If it was Google, I can only assume that (since they are discontinuing the Nexus 4), the only way to refund or give you a "replacement" would be with a new model. T-Mobile does this all the time. If you have a phone under current warranty and they discontinue, they will give you the next "better" phone in line.
As for your Google Now, is that only when you use voice to text?

It's not necessarily the best phone in line. They give you something of similar price or similar specs. But nothing better in those terms. I've also had to deal with them in terms of this and was told on a few occasions they rarely or never do this anymore. They will keep sending you the same device. Only time they won't is if the device is out of stock or discontinued. Even then you won't like the options and its not something you can pick.

Very true that you can't pick. Maybe you had some bad luck. My friend just returned his HTC One S and T-Mo offered him a Nexus 4. Seems like a better phone to me. Also, Google usually only has one phone to offer; and, in this case, I know I would like the option.
I can only imagine how big the "Nexus 5 order and shipping thread" will be this time. Everyone is going to be so worried about getting their new phone and contemplating reasons with everyone as to why it does not ship right away, or any other problems we all had during the 4 release lol. I hope this release goes smooth and that Google has upgraded their website servers since then...

Why do you say that? Apple stores still carry iPhone 3gs' for replacements. Usually they will ramp down production but are still able to produce enough warranty phones for quite some time.

I don't know a ton about Apple's returns, especially on a 3gs. It seems crazy that Googlr would continue buying Nexus 4s and stop selling them. It's not like Apple who produces their own product. Also, I'd imagine those replacement 3gs are probably refurbs, not new.
Anyway, I hope the OP keeps us updated with what happens. I'm curious to find out why they would say it is in his best interest to wait.

[PT] Nexus 5 - Portugal thread

I've searched but I didn't found any thread for the portuguese market.
So, I think that we needed this place to talk about the long waited Nexus 5.
Last year was very to us to get the Nexus 4 (at least at a fair price). Due to the stock crash only in January or February it was available at the main stores like Fnac or MediaMarkt but priced over 550€.
I hope that this year we could have it a lot earlier. Last year Google released some of his services in our country, like books or music. I hope (ok, I haven't that much hope...) they carry on launching their services so that we could have Play Devices but it is unlikely.
Lets see what comes and which retailers would sold it. And we'll alwways have services like forward2me and, my favorite, friends all over Europe

I approve of this post. I've also looked around the Nexus 5 forum and only found a way that involves using Tor and setting up a fake Google account, then buying from the UK, sending to a UK address and having the phone re-shipped to Portugal. This is way too much of a hassle for me and I can't say I fully trust it to work or be particularly cheap.
If anyone knows of a reputable online retailer that stocks the Nexus 5 and ships to Portugal, can you give us a heads up please? Or if you come up with an easier way of getting this candy into our hands?
Handtec has it on pre-sale with delivery expected arround November 11th. It's a litle pricey, it'sm about 359£ to the 16GB and about 401£ to the 32GB version. I'm not sure if we must add shipment dosts to Portugal but if so I don't that is over 10€.
I've read on another forum that forward2me has a special to this device that theeirselves bought the device and just ship it to you but needs to check this.
Thanks, ToneJeco. I'll check out those options. It's a bit of a markup compared to the £299 on Google Play or £295 at Carphone Warehouse, but who knows?

Personally, I'm going to try one of the The Phone House stores (The Phone House = Carphone Warehouse in Portugal, and other countries) and see if they could get a Nexus 5 in. Somehow.
I might do that as well. Did it in Media Markt already (they'll warn me if and when they get the Nexus 5), as they previously had the Nexus 4 for some time.

Fnac.pt will unveil the nexus 5 next week, so next week we'll know if it's an official LG launch or not.
If it is the phone will be available in practically every major chain.
For those thinking about buying via playstore and forward2me it's much cheaper to buy from carphone warehouse (less hassle with mbnet declines, free postage to forward2me and no need for personal shopping)

i think ill have to do it like a i did with my nexus 4.
find a friend in uk and ask them to buy it and send it to me... its cheaper...
but first i need to sell my n4, money isnt that much in my pocket...
but good idea to start a thread for our contry...
Managed to grab two 16GB Nexus 5 (BLK) directly from the German Play Store, through a work colleague based in Germany and should have 'em with me sometime during next week. :victory: :fingers-crossed:

Really ?! Because I've called FNAC today after reading your post and they had no idea what the heck I was talking about. And based in a past experience, ordering from Carphone Warehouse (even to a UK forwarding address) was actually a PITA.

I've called several FNAC stores and checked their website. Also, I couldn't find any official statement about the Nexus 5 availability at their facebook page.

Found it, thanks!
The answer given by FNAC's representative wasn't, well... Too convincing. But yeah... Let's see what happens next week and, above all, how much they will ask for it.
I've ordered a black 32Gb one from the UK play store... Well, not me, but a friend of mine who's working in London.. He will then send it to me through Royal mail. I hope to have it by the 11th or 12th of November..!
Cant wait!

I'm a litle afraid of Fanc's prices since last year they sold Nexus 4 @ 600€ but things may be diferent if LG make it official. I hope so since they seem to be trying hard to push their image and get their space in the smartphone's market with G2. A Nexus device is always a good way to increase that recognition.
I almost bought N5 this weekend but I believe is better to chill a bit and wait, I really have no hurge so I'll wait to see how the things evolve and how will be the availability here in Portugal. But that price from carphone is very tempting

Nope, you got the same problem. LG wanted to charge 600 for the N4. They'll probably do the same for the N5. So, even if it's an official release, we'll have it for 600€ over at FNAC.

Problem is, it isn't that easy to get CPW to send you anything to Portugal, even through a UK forwarding address. Firstly, because you need a credit or debit card associated to an UK billing address (I don't think you can do that with MBNet) and secondly, you need a real UK mobile phone number, something that services like Forward2me do not provide.
And I highly doubt FNAC Portugal will have the Nexus 5 in the coming week as a representative stated at FNAC's facebook page. Right now, the availability of the Nexus 5 in B&M stores isn't a reality with CPW being one of the very few exceptions so it's highly unlikely they'll have it in stock this week. But let's see what happens.
Lg has several country wide launches scheduled for this week, so I don't thing that's so unlikely

Source ?
Hi everyone.
If I buy a Nexus 5 in the UK to use in Portugal (I have a friend in London that can buy it) will all radios work correctly in Portugal? I know GSM is the same in all Europe but what about 3G LTE. Can anyone confirm or tell me how I can check it?

AT&T Nexus 6 available at best buy soon??

Hey guys I'm so wanting to buy the new nexus 6but wondering how much longer it's going to be for the phone to be made available in Midwest. I live in Tulsa. Just upgraded to LG g3 for reasons far too complicated to explain. Owned nothing but note 2 and note3 and HTC one but had an impulse buy the other night asset best buy. I still have time to take it back and get nexus 6just curious if anyone has heard any inside info that I haven't???

I was at best buy other day and asked the rep in the mobile section and he told me that they would not carry the n6, but he could have been wrong or stalling.
I called best buy after seeing an article that they would carry the nexus 6 and they told me that they were not going to carry it.
Why don't you just get it directly from AT&T website and have it delivered to you? Inventory for the n6 is very weak meeting it's demand right now.

Exactly what he said lol I'm glad no one where I live actually knows about the Nexus 6 or wants one here, So I was able to wait 2 - 3 days and my Local T-Mobile Store still had it for sale.
The problem with BB is that they seem to charge an extra $50 for the phone if you want to pay MSRP for it. When I was looking at the Note 4, they were $50 more than Verizon and refused to price match. Maybe they do that to make up for the no restocking fee.....

Ya, you have to get it from the ATT website as the stores were ordered to send back their shipments. Even if you do get it from ATT you will get some "extras" that you probably don't want from them.

The "extras" can be removed, in my opinion, just get whatever method gets you the phone fastest as you possibly can.
