Let the RomGames begin!! - Nexus 5 General

So I know its just out and google needs to release the 4.4 code, but aren't we all exited for ROMS!!!!!! So let the developers start doing their magic and giving it to us on the nexus 5...
What ROM are you most exited to see, and what are your most favourite features about the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4.
Happy posting
Don't forget, if you choose other, tell us which Rom you are looking forward to!!
NOTE!!! 1. I didn't have a nexus 4, so i don't know all the Roms and everything about them, and I own an S4 I9500, so you can know how I fell about custom Roms :/
2. I AM NOT SAYING ONE ROM IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER. This is just asking for opinions on what are you exited to see the most.

looking forward to some Paranoid Android custom DPI settings whoooooo

Looking forward to cm

DU for life!! @Mazda :highfive:

CM is moving away from their original direction
never has been a fan of PA. Tried it a million times, but phone performance is just annoying. Right now i'm reverting back to stock from PA on my N4, because it freezes at least once every hour.
I guess I'll go with stock.

Thats a new Rom for me, seems badass!!
Problem is that for my I9000 I had tons of Roms then I got the I9500 and was disappointed in the lack of Roms....Hopefully Nexus 5 will have tons of them!!

RasBean or Saber for me.

Cyan or Carbon.
I honestly don't like any of the others. Loved Cyan on my N1, and NS. Loved Carbon on my N4. Can't wait to see what they're both like on the N5.
Cyan is mostly stable, and coming with less features. And Carbon is like the younger CM(mostly stable, with tons of features).

be good to see what direction PA is going to go as they said starting 4.4 they were changing direction at how they do things

This page was made for Flashaholics....HAHA

I have MIUI on my N4 atm.
Dont know if they will have a ROM for the N5 so I´ll try Carbon for my first time (heard a loft of good things about it)

You actually are saying which ROM is better. Why would anyone be "excited" for a inferior ROM?

The thing about custom ROMs...

I've flashed a few custom ROMs + Kernels on my Nexus 7, but I always return to stock. I find stock JB to just be rock-solid, with great battery life.
I've found that most custom ROMs have some tiny issues, and they always bug me. Same with custom kernels. There's always an occasional crash here or there, or some unexpected jerkiness.
But I guess it's always a compromise. If you want features/performance, you'll have to live with bugs/lower battery life. But, being a Nexus, we'll get newer, feature-filled versions of Android right away!
So what about you guys? Do you feel that custom ROMs/kernels are lacking that perfection and finesse the stock ROM has? Or is your custom ROM completely stable with absolutely no bugs?
I love the custom ROMS. No complaints from me. I prefer some version of CM...usually AOKP. They are always upgrading it, so there are some small problems with it at times but I really enjoy it too much to complain or go back to stock. Don't get me wrong stock is very smooth with few problems.

I so agree with the above.. Also your opinion is welcome but due note that these developers are doing this as a community effort for FREE.. They improve our devices give us some things Google decided to leave out. Also im not sure you are aware of this or not . But often you will see some of the So called custom rom stuff injected into future GOOGLE STOCK ROMS... Google does watch the development community and use there code from time to time . My guess is alot more then they would tell...

Cyanogenmod works perfectly on both my phone and nexus 7. It's the best of both worlds really. Clean stock look but with a sprinkle of customization.

pre-Gingerbread --> custom ROM required
post-ICS --> stock is fine
My bootloader isn't even unlocked on my N7 and it's only unlocked on my GN so I can flash updates once OTA or images are posted.
I agree that all the roms are great. My favorite is PA, love that rom. But after a while i just feel like going back to stock. But then its not long before i am back on pa.

I don't like custom Roms on devices that have the latest version of android available. I just root. Adding a custom kernel only makes things unstable.

I agree with the OP on ROMS, I haven't found one "better" than stock yet. Different yes, more/other customizations, yes. But so far not better. Yes, the devs do this for free, and for their own reasons. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't state our preferences. There are kernels that improve the device greatly, running one myself. But I've tried more than half a dozen custom ROMS and none gave me anything that would make me stick with it. Always went back to stock.
Not knocking all the hard work and effort. It's pretty amazing what some of these devs come up with, wish I had the knowledge and skills they have. Might try to pick up some basics, just so I understand more of everything involved with it. But I'm a system guy, not really a software dev.
Keep in mind we are nitpicking, custom features on new code it takes sometime implement them properly. I am rocking stock at the moment with stock recovery just cause Google is moving fast this time of year.
So take any bug with the custom Roms like this, yes it has more features, you may or may not be affected by bugs. If that bothers you then rock stock. Cause once cm hits stable that's when everything usually falls into place.
Just hopefully we can have less people posting silly complaints on in process releases. Go look in the Ubuntu thread, some user is just posting "its slow" or " there is no reason to use this" as if was a final product makes me smh

Heh... I'm NOT in denial.
I haven't used a single ROM in the android development I only used ones from original development. Slim bean, eos, rasbean... all exceptional ROMs. Currently on rasbean and its by far the best for myself. Used trinity and Francos kernel have had better results with Francos, his is just about an optimised stockish kernel.

Nothing better than pure stock Android on a NEXUS device. Period.
It's different on a non nexus Device due to carrier's skins but on a NEXUS device come on people you know there's nothing better than pure stock.

We shoul be lucky we have so many options for our Nexus 7, Stock ROM is rock stable and smooth , and to add to that we have almost 7-8 different custom ROMS which are also stable each with their own features and 3-4 different kernels to play with
I am flashing different ROM every 4-5 days
Play around people thats what I like about Android - complete control of your device and Nexus - quick latest stock updates and lots of custom development
Agreed, I prefer stock rom, but also I like to root it, and change fonts...

I'm not too into the roms in android development either, the ones in original development are pretty damn good though and eclipse Rom is really fast, I was into the stock only phase till 4.1.2 and imo development seem a lot better and roms just seemed actually faster than stock to me, rasbean, eclipse, pa, and bugless beast seem to do the trick for me

Roms etc. to check out?

Howdy.
Took advantage of the latest google offer to get myself a Nexus 4 - my Razr i just had literally no development and a lot of apps wouldn't even run due to x86 architecture! Arggh!
So anyway, mine is arriving soon (hopefully) and I'd like some pointers on what to check out first - Cyanogen is always worth considering of course
I mainly look for a good kernal to save me power but not skimp out on horse power when needed - a good deep sleep/idle function
Also a lightweight rom which is very snappy, I'm sure I'll find some roms to love based on the sheer amount of development on this section! Send your suggestions in and I'll be sure to check them out! :good::good::good:

First, Franco kernel is amazing ! make sure to set governor CPU on "interactive" and GPU on "ondemand".
MBQ_'s Vanir is by far the snappiest i'v experienced (and I have flashed dem roms ).
Me personally, I find Stock + Franco to work the best.

Sounds great
Put it this way, i went from HTC desire where I could change roms weekly - finally settling on oxygen which was totally stock android and great
Then Razr i - it took 7 months or something to even get jelly bean, 0 roms and now we finally have like two to choose from? They are good in terms of i'm not a developer and i appreciate what they do, but both are riddled with bugs

I've never really liked PA because of the different modes (phone, phablet, tablet, etc) would make if hard to modify everything easily for me (but thats cause i dont like phablet or tablet modes, prefer stock phone style)... Im using crDroid and it runs great with purified kernel. Ive tried Vanir and that one also was pretty good
You should do what i did, flash a few and test them out. They all have different variations of features...

I love customizing everything, so from the beginning I was on AOKP. Loved it but i think it was a little heavier than necessary..
after that I used Xylon - ( now Uxylon) which was awesome, smooth and fast, plenty of features.. but its still 4.2.2, so I had to leave it behind eventually.
Currently I'm on Slim Rom Beta, 4.3 and I'm loving it. So give it a try!
Rocking Purity & AK kernel today and loving it

You can also check a thread in general about a poll on which rom people are using. i mean, just based from that, you can have the number of nexus 4 users, what the best rom in common people use (you wouldn't know your best if you hadn't tried the others right?) and just a few mods also you can use that will give you what you want. Just have fun in the mako forum and all the best mate :good:

Addiction

I think I'm addicted to flashing ROMS. I've flashed just about everyone I can find for my T. Even when I get settled with a ROM I truly like (Hybrid/ CM 10.2) I think to myself 'oooh, I'll just try that one with a different kernel on the off chance I can get 4 minutes more battery and a speed increase that can't be registered with the human eye.'
I'm now checking XDA more than I check Facebook on the off chance that some genius like @tilal6991 has posted a semi-stable 4.4 build.
I only rooted/ unlocked bootloader 4 weeks ago. I feel I've come a long way!

A test build of 4.4 has been posted by Thomas on his OmniROM thread - it does have a couple of showstopper bugs like calls not going out and screen flashing everytime you select something (there's a hack around this) as well as broken GPS. It is out there though.

I had the same problem with my Xperia Arc. Pretty annoying sometimes when my phone didn't work properly when i needed it hha. But it was fun.
Weird thing is that i don't feel the need to do the same with this phone, i feel like the last jb firmware Works perfect and i don't have the need to mess with it. I rooted this phone a few months ago but it resulted in a performance decrease. So i.haven't felt the need to root again since then.

hahhahahah...so true! I love your message!
i used to be exactly the same i have calmed down a lot now i used to flash a rom at least once a day even if it was one i had used a couple of days ago just to see the difference the rom i am currently using makes if any or i would grow tireless knowing i have the ability to flash new roms but was not doing so .... i bricked a few galaxy ace's in the early days when i didn't know what i was doing and thought i could skip steps etc but once i knew what i was doing there was no stopping me i became that addicted i was flashing my friends phones with different roms too .... i have calmed down a lot now flashing only 3 - 4 times a week instead of the 7 - 100000000000000000's of times a week
(100000000000000000's is not literal but just a way of expressing countless amounts of times)
i think i have had almost all JB roms running on my T at least twice now i flick between omni, honami v5, and keep trying the 4.3 version of pacman from buildbasket waiting for a stable release .... honami is my daily because i get to use doomkernel and OC and its got enough tweaks in it to make me feel like im not stuck on boring stock rom lol for me im always looking for functions and OC and unfortunatly unless you ar on stock OC just isnt there .... sure on one of the AOKP projects you can OC to 1.7 but thats a whole 0.2 less than on a stock with doomkernel might not sound like much but it can make a difference also doomkernel comes with governors that are tweaked for dual core again something that is missing from CM AOKP etc ....... hopefully omni will resolve this issue for me and i can spread my wings a little once they have a few more settings and OC / governors are fixed up
I think I've flashed every ROM on XDA at least three times. Just in case I was missing something. The odd thing is that almost every time I flash a new ROM, I think it's better than the previous one. Which is mental. I must have flashed Rimmer's MIUI ROM 6 times. Every time I flash it I love it because it's beautiful. Then 12 hours later I get annoyed at having all the apps on the homescreen as I like it to be minimal, so I flash another ROM.
Two days later I flash it back because it's beautiful. And on and on.
*sigh*
Normally I use either peetr_'s Hybrid ROM with Doomkernel, or CM 10.2. I find Hybrid with the kernel OC is snappier, I find CM 10.2 to be smoother. These are the two I return to on a regular basis. I always feel like I'm cheating on them, both with each other and with any of the other ROMs. Again, this is mental!
Very excited for when the T gets 4.3 and we get a kernel that can be OC!
Also, I like the XDA community. Every seems nice and chilled. Generally.

im not always nice and chilled i get annoyed at noobs who ask things that have been answered hundreds of times or state something as a fact when the rest of the world know it is something completely different but i try to keep a lid on it although im sure it hasnt gone unnoticed when i have let off the steam lol .... MIUI is a really tasty rom and is real nice but i feel like i am back on iOS too much with it ... all the greatness of android with all the rubbish of iOS lol and if you install another launcher it just isn't the same the launcher was designed for that rom so why put a new one on there when there are lots of other roms to try ..... i love the honami rom like all roms it has its limits and its bugs and its by far not the quickest one out there but it serves most of my needs out the box i just wish somebody would fix up pacman rom on 4.3 had repeated problems with it not restarting instead going into bootloop after installing roms .... i will openly admit i don't know everything as i can not build my own rom i wish i knew how as i would gladly take on building pacman rom 4.3 .... anyway enjoy your T flash until you discover that magic rom .... it might even be 4.4 once they have that up and running smoothly .... once omni gets its features that will almost certainly become my daily but its just a little basic for my needs at the current time lol .... if i can help out in any ways just give me a shout i might be able to help if not im sure somebody else will be able to between the who communities collective there is a vast amount of knowledge to be tapped into

I had this impression regarding Greenify, especially since the auto-greenify feature is implemented. I can't imagine that rooting would slow down the phone.
Actually my V's stock ROM is a very good compromise in between performance, stability and fluid use. The 4.12 is rock solid and virtually lag free on my device. Well I flashed Honami Experience, but that is stock based.
Yes, it is very hard to resist this addiction ..I even infected my GF. She have Galaxy mini (terrible display) with CM10.1 some mods ..still better than stock sammy ROM.
Before Xperia T I have ACE 2 and I hated that lack of ROMs on this phone. So , after 5 months with this phone i bought T. and now I am in paradise .
Almost every day a CM or Miui update and now i flashed OmniROM from Tilal.. What a great feeling with 4.4.
Thanks OP for this Rom, made me smile
In truth, I have gone completely the other way, I used to be a flashaholic and flash new roms daily, it started with the X10 and i then bought an Xperia T off the shelf just so I could unlock the B/L - having played with everything there is to offer on here for the last year I finally trailed off flashing and the other day I flash an official stock Rom and re-locked my bootloader so as to get official 4.3 through SEUS or PCC

lol I was just about to do the same thing when tilal released his 4.4 OmniRom. It's excellent. Now, I'm not trying to suggest you come back to the darkside, but it's well worth a flash...

Weird thing is that i don't feel the need to do the same with this phone, i feel like the last jb firmware Works perfect and i don't have the need to mess with it. I rooted this phone a few months ago but it resulted in a performance decrease. So i.haven't felt the need to root again since then.

I know, right? This is the very first phone I own that hasn't been flashed or rooted even. For the very first time, I haven't felt the need. Actually, that's saying something for Sony. Kudos to them!
Now back to eagerly awaiting my 4.3 update...

(vent) Aicp, the relief I've needed.

I'm an aosp guy. For some reason TW is just wrong in my mind. As a Galaxy S4 users go, Sprint users kind of get the shaft on a lot of cool builds but luckily the whole merging business has made that easier to deal with. That said "plain" CM is not enough.I like all the customizing, and man do I spend my time on all kinds of cool features.
I don't really want to flash a ton of different ROMs, but sometimes I want to try something new out. But man there will be an awesome ROM that does EVERYTHING. And then it just fundamentally doesn't actually work. Nobody has that problem but you or the dev tells you its your fault, or someone is telling you not to ***** and use the stable. Backing up flashing settling in repeat.
So I'm on aicp and it works. And well. And has tons of the expected features. Maybe you like what you are using or this doesn't change your mind about how you feel. But man.
Churchey360 has been putting up quite a few ROMs lately, under the radar. And man am I happy right now. Until next flash anyway
Most tw users respect aosp
I hate how aosp users never respect tw at all
Everyone has their own preference don't bash on it

Nothing against aosp.. but CMs KK sucks... its garbage! I look at the thread daily to check and see if CM has released anything tasty.... but no! Just pages and pages of " this doesnt work " ...and " blah blah FCs.. , no sound...no signal....no.mms....exc exc.....they fix one thing just to break 2 other things......
I ALWAYS used CM when i have my EVO and HTC HERO.. CM was always the way to go.... but now? 4 and 5 months worth of nightlies and not a.single damn one is 100000% flawless..
On the other hand, i. Have tried other aosp roms that are CM based and they are just fine!!! Beanstalk, liquid....exc exc... all CM based and work amazing! Id use one of these roms if you perfer CM over TW...
FLAME me if you will.. but today TW is the way to go..

yeah man this wasn't in defense of CM, I was actually saying that CM is just not for me because it doesn't have as much features as countless other roms do. And yet, its still way more stable than say, Beanstalk KK (which I LOVED on 4.3, but now doesn't give us prebuilt nightlies and netflix never work), or Vanir (which never worked perfectly, and now doesn't work at all).
Also this wasn't meant to bash TW. I'm very aware of how people swear by it, and if you like it, thats on you. This post wasn't about TW vs AOSP, but how I'm finally happy to have an AOSP rom on KK that I can relax with. Honest!
Definitely did hit the thanks and rated. Unfortunately I'm not able to actually post in the dev forums to tell him.
No..i hear ya.. im not gung ho for either.. i was just saying how in MY past , CM was the shizzil... now today with KK, and even JB, it is HARD to find a flawless CM rom... not CM BASED, but CM itself... same goes with MIUI too.. in the GB and ICS versions, it was neat, now your licky to get it to boot.....But this could all be to the new codes and strings.. not sure.. i wasnt banging any particular rom or dev, just CM in general.. hell im glad somebody here knows what they are doing because if i tried to release a rom, there would be a crap load of BRICKS !

This has always been my experience with CM, from the EVO to the S2, S3, S4, and Note 8. Some of the CM-based ROMs are pretty good, but none are unfortunately as good as TW. Truth be told, I have no issues with TW.
If you want an aosp rom that works out of the box, try SlimKat.
Everything works the way is supposed to, no bugs, and it has lots of options for customization... Just look at the thread , there are not that many posts because everything works, no complaints.
Can't say SlimKat has really filled my needs as much as some others, and for some reason on the S4 the dpi isn't as easy to deal with as it was on the E4GT. But I definitely get the appeal, it's pretty solid.

Yeah, It's not like I haven't tried it. If it was genuinely something I wanted to be into, I definitely would have stuck with it. But I just find AOSP roms to be a more fluid experience for me. TW hadn't shown me any significant advantage.

I am on the same page as op, I DO like TW, but I like customizations more. I've tested most roms out (TW & AoSP based), slimkat is solid.. no issues with that rom at all (aside from theme support). I then tested AiCP, wow, that rom is 100% perfect for me. I am not a heavy BT user so that issue hasent affected me but my S4 will stay on AiCP until theres a TW build that supports all those features

Quickly turned into a best rom thread, which we do not allow here as they attract unnecessary arguments.
Thread closed. Take this to the off topic threads, thanks.

[Q] ROM recommendations PLZ?

I have an Atrix HD, rooted, with unlocked JB bootloader, and I've also done the MAXX battery MOD. I haven't had this phone long and it seems to be a bit laggy, and a battery hog on the stock firmware. I am not partial to JB or KK so I am pretty open to suggestions. All I am looking for is SPEED, STABILITY, and BATTERY LIFE, and of course the LEAST amount of bugs possible. TY all in advance! :good:
ROM recommendation posts are a dime a dozen around here, and the answer is always the same: figure it out for yourself by browsing the development forums for your phone, and flash the one that fits what you want.
Thanks

Thanks but thats what I've been doing for the past almost 2 weeks now. I only asked because there is ALOT of developement already for this device and it looks like EVERYTHING is buggy as Hell so far so I was really looking for a USEFUL suggestion. But thanks a bunch.

No, not everything is buggy as hell. The majority of them run just fine and are good enough for daily drivers. If you installed one, you'd see for yourself.
I understand that you want a perfect ROM but there isn't one. You've gotta take what minimal bad there is with the good. Even stock ROMs have bugs.
The best advice is to flash a ROM that sounds good and see if you like it. Hell, that's half the fun!
Thanks Dr. Orange

I understand what you are saying, and I have been checking them out, I'm on CM11 now, and have tried Holoblur, and a couple others. I've went through this with literally 13 devices now so I'm not new to this. I was simply asking the community for the best ones that they have used from their experience. I have asked this question on XDA about all of my other devices and normally people respond with just what I said before. Its just a lot easier when I can narrow it down between a handful of ROMs that are DD material.
What has been your favorite so far Doc?
Ah yes! Had to make sure you weren't just asking for the best instead of researching for yourself! I guess I could've been a little more helpful from the beginning...
My most important feature is pie controls, second is tied with customizing options and battery, So right now, carbonROM is perfect for me. I'm running the 8/04 jbbl build and it works great.
I have the MAXX battery mod so battery isn't as important, but I still want it to last all day.
Team Gummy works well too. The only build for our jbbl phone that works is the April build 2.0. It's light and battery life is good too. Also has pie, not as many customizable options.
Those are my KitKat choices, I'm not sure of the 4.3 Roms other than the last time I had a 4.3 PAC ROM installed it worked really well with excellent battery life. 4.3 Roms are arguably the most refined, but development has shifted towards KitKat obv.
That's pretty much all I know.
Awesome!

That my friend is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for the input... I will definitely try your recommendations next. I also did the MAXX MOD on mine the other day with the EB40 battery and cutting of the inner frame, but just like you I definitely want it to be able to last all day. Lol, I know there is no perfect ROM, I just didn't wanna be crack flashing for the next couple months with as many nice sounding ROMs there are for this phone. Either way, your info is extremely appreciated, and thanks for the heads up on Gummy. I typically look at a ROM's OP first to look at the features then look through the last couple pages to see if and what issues it may have. It just got frustrating bc MOST posts end with people all talking about their damn RAZR's in the wrong forum lol. So thank you very much Doc.

4.3.1 unified build from 1 Feb 14 works well and has decent battery life with the battery mod, best battery life i have seen so far was on ATT's stock pre-heartbleed fix revision.
Thank you very much as well palm beach. I'm on Gummy 2.0 now (the one that works) that the doc suggested and I love it aside from some random systemui force closes so I think I will try your suggestion next lol.
