Nexus 5 Battery Results - Nexus 5 General

Post your screenshots with a description of the test you used.
I'm doing a low to medium usage test with Bluetooth, Location Access on High accuracy, WIFI, HSPA,Auto Brightness and google now. From 100% down to 0%. Then doing a Full charge time with phone turned on.
Will be posting screenshots via dropbox below with a few hours in between.
Battery usage screenshots. https://www.dropbox.com/sc/zwr2s240knxqove/_FZDWDZWmT
4hr 6mins screenshots of time on. https://www.dropbox.com/sc/zzvlu7oplnax7qf/IeDdDl9Nb_

19hr screenshot with 7.5hr overnight standbyhttps://www.dropbox.com/sc/t64536q9a0l0axd/RWJ6_Oq4gJ
In addition I've used a2dp audio stream for an hour or so. I'll do a full screenshot of all the on times later.
Still very low usage scenario. Battery looking good. @22hrs 40% with updated screenshots above.
Final Result only took me to 15% with 1 Day 16 Hours. Screen on time 3hr 16mins. Needed a full battery for the day and couldn't risk it but atleast it's a general ballpark. https://www.dropbox.com/sc/oaj33ji9kssx5rt/BFiLIz-Jef
40 Hours is still pretty good for light usage. During a busy working day i would be happy with 9 hours max usage.

Yes it does have a notification light. Its in the same place as the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4. Here is a video of it in action;

Not to be rude, but no its not. I meant the actual time the screen has been on not the % of it. When you click on screen you'll see what I mean.

Were you expecting Galaxy Note or LG G2 battery life from a phone with a 2300 mAh battery?
Those battery stats seem perfectly fine for a phone with a 2300 mAh battery.

It looks ok with almost 2h of BT streaming calls + 2h of music. Other results in thread seem more "realistic" (if you don't use BT). Let's wait for more feedback. If it could make 4-4.30h screen on for me, that means with custom kernel and UC it could easily hit 5h or more. *thinking out loud*

Here's my reply from the previous thread...
Well you say it's disappointing but I disagree;
If you look at the screenshots you will see how much battery has been taken by the voice calls compared to screen on time;
30% of the total battery use was from the 3hr47m for screen on time but...
A whopping 26% for only 1hr28m of voice call time! If we use that ratio and just double it (assuming all network strength was the same) you'd likely lose 52% of your battery in just under 3 hours...(this is just an estimation based on my results btw).
I honestly don't understand the hard-on people get for screen on time when voice calls seem to drain the battery much much harder... doesn't anyone use their device as a phone anymore?
Also if you take into consideration how bad my signal was the battery life I had today was all the more impressive.
A Random Afterthought:
IF that 26% that were used on Voice calls were used for screen on time...although realistically it'd probably be something like 17-20% with the rest on random android processes and processor usage; the screen on time could easily be above 5 hours possibly pushing 6 with bad signal and no wifi O_O...

Well nexus 4 with Trinity kernel gets 6-7 hours so with nexus 5 I expect around 8 hours on a custom kernel and stock should get around 5 hours which is pretty darn good.

shr33kant,
The battery performance results you have are perfectly acceptable for a typical phone user that uses the phone for calls, web surfing, google services, movies etc. I only get 2 to 2hr. 15mins on my N4 with typical phone usage as you. So the N5 is basically getting better battery performance then the N4. :good:

I found there might be some defective on software or sth else,
some batteries drain so fast, some are not.
for example, mine never last over 24hr even i turn off everything, use only 2G, with no app installed.
and it's instable, sometimes it drains so fast, sometimes not. I don't know why.
Until we get a software update probably will be great battery like the update for one x

I think that is why many of us expect a huge battery improvement after updating to JB ,perhaps the newer system wont be so power hungry.
these screenshots are fun and all but they are totaly irrelevant.
hoe much USE time are people gettng is whats interesting.
so screen on time.
as the goal is no drain with screen off and as long as possible screen on time (this is when you use apps and so on).
my phone can be on for 2 days and still hve 95% juice left but thats kinda irrelevant if i dont touch it.
when i use it non stop my use time averages on 4 hours and 15 minutes so far.
all the people having problems with battery drain must have either bad apps installed of verry poor wifi/3g connections.
as in a good serup with no bad apps and good signal wifi should not drain battery at all if your not using it.
i would so like all people with issue to lend me there phones for 3 days to see if in my stable envourement they have the same issues.
im fairly sure that all these problems are signal and user related and that it has nothing to do with the hardware.
My phone would only give me 2 hours max if the mobile data is on with sync off facebook sync set to 1 hour and hotmail sync set to 1 hours. But if wifi is on throughout the day i would get around 3 hours 15 min average with sync on hotmail set to push and facebook sync set to 1 hour. The battery is really poor as i only use it generally for txting whatsapp and just a bit browsing thats all nothing else. When i watch videos my phone consumes less battery, than normal usage which i do everyday. The highest screen time i have ever got was 4 hours 15 mins thatd because i watched a video for almost like 3 hours thats why. But the battery is still really poor

My android system also consumes a lot of power, its always on top no matter what. I am running on V_10H I disabled some stock apps using titanium backup and used fast demorcacy but the only difference I could see was android wakeups had been much lower thats all and so less power consumption when phone on standby thats all.

this is totally relevant information for regular users.
many people complain about battery drain and that a custom rom is the cause or custom kernel when its available, but what shows that it is not, is when you can place your handheld mobile or tablet alone with wifi set to instant off and you got 3g disabled and it lives for days without loss of battery, you know that it is stable.
when you suddenly lose battery in hours and previous tests showed it was lasting days, you can be sure you got battery infected apps trying to activate your cpu all the time.
i'd like to buy this phone but i'm a bit afaid of the battery drain. people who says it last 2 days with normal use other says that with gaming and browsing lasts 10-15h but a lot says that the battery lasts just 6 h with normal use... can someone who owns this phone and he use it with a middle-intense use (texting, browsing, gaming some time) tell me how much lasts the battery please??

Well, my usage pattern is kinda light, but still...
- took it off the charger at 7:15 am
- 3g data permanently on while I'm not at home (from 7:20 til 18:00 or 19:00)
- wifi on when I'm at home (during the night too, I never switch the phone off)
- sync always on (gmail, whatsapp)
- received a couple short phone calls, let's say 5-6 mins
- received a bunch of emails, say about 15 or something
- some messaging (on whatsapp and gtalk, I don't use sms)
- some facebook, let's say 15 minutes (through mobile website 'cause FB app sucks big time, always had and most probably always will)
- some net browsing looking for a few stuff, let's say 5-10 minutes
- checked a couple forums on tapatalk a couple times
- updated 3 or 4 apps on wifi
- downloaded a 50mb game on wifi and played it for like 10-15 minutes
- ebook reading on moon+ for 1 hour and 30 minutes (maybe even longer, didn't check the exact time)
I connected it to the charger when it reached 12% battery at about midnight THE NEXT DAY (yes, that is around 41 hours without recharging it)
Overall, I can say I'm satisfied, at least for my standard usage...
- Stock v10h firmware, no root (yet).
- Nova launcher since 5 minutes after buying it
- I usually keep brightness quite low unless I'm out in the open under the sun, good thing about this phone's screen is that it's usually very well visible even with only a 20% brightness. If I need to use it in full sunlight, I conveniently placed a full brightness widget on my homescreen, and then back to 20% with one click when I'm done. No autobrightness 'cause I don't like much how it's set to work on this phone (was kinda better on my old i9000, but oh well, 1 click widget and I'm good to go, no sweat)
- Disabled 3 or 4 stock apps (through app settings, no titanium or other stuff)
I noticed that battery usage was kinda higher before disabling those stock apps, I guess one of them was a powermonster of sorts (I suspect the meteo one, but I'm not sure)
- No facebook notifications of course, not for battery-related reasons but just 'cause I simply hate them... but I guess that's nice on the battery too

i'm using 1800 mugen power battery. it's better on about 20/30 % and you can really see that. so if you want to buy new battery - better buy this one than original. i'm working with it for half of a year n everything is fine.
about your battery - yes, it can go in that way and its normal for our dev.

Mine is about the same as yours, 100% at sleep and 88(at times it's 87 or 86) or so when I wake up. But I think I slept for about 10h
Edit*

im having issue with poor battery life on this device too up to 5hrs ~)
A tip is to disable sweep2wake if you have it enabled. it consumes a lot battery. Since I disabled it yesterday my battery gained a couple of hours battery life.

Imo it's just placebo effect. I actually think that they waste battery than save.
About battery saving apps:
Some might help save some of your battery, like Juice Defender, but about 100% of the stuff that an app does is something you can do for yourself.
Like dim the screen when you don't need 100% brightness, turn off data and use only GSM when you don't need to use data (and if 3G has better reception it might be worth staying on 3G though, at least in my world a better reception would mean a little bit better battery than if you changed to the network mode with worse reception) and when you don't need WiFi - you turn it off.
Using apps to kill other services and apps are not a good idea either, since some apps will only restart and restart and restart while the task killer will keep killing = both apps will drain your battery.
And by turning off both WiFi and data and the apps are well designed, they should not try to look for updates and such if there are no available internet connections.
And, by undervolting you gain more than using different apps and such and if you then learn how to set up your device in the best way for battery you will get longer battery life.
If I don't use my phone so often, I can get about 2 days with 3G/GSM + WiFi turned on all the time and mobile data connection turned on all the time. If I use it a lot I still get long enough battery time to make a full day, usually I need to charge my phone every 18-24 hours when I use it to check mail, send some texts and read news (and XDA, as the addicted person I am).
Now, I just hope that I haven't f*cked anything up - I'm just too lazy to read it through.

I bought myself a Nexus 7 about a month ago to satisfy the cravings for that Jellybean goodness. After trying several ICS/JB roms on my IncS over the past year, I decided to revert back to the CM7 Nightlies. Much to my surprise it's almost as if I forgot how blazingly fast Gingerbread was.
Given how i use my IncS on a daily basis, I seem to be averaging around 34-36 hours before it hits below 5%. It really only gets used for calls, texts and wifi tethering to my N7.

I used to average 30% battery drain per day with light use with stock GB rom and kernal, it has upped to approx 50% per day with stock ICS rom, with lOst profit's overclock kernal running at 1400 wake and 368 sleep. ( setcpu )
Not bad considering 40% increase in processor speed, but less than 20% increase in battery usage.

keep in mind you have to give it a couple of hours , maybe even a day(depending on how much it has to do and your connection etc) Before the rom settles down after flashing. Then you can give your impression of it if it is laggy or not.

If you can't make a battery that lasts longer, make charging faster.

About time battery tech evolved in 1 way or another.
That's a website full of very classy people...
The energy density given is not bad for a supercapacitor, but the ballpark figure 'comparable to normal batteries is only 10% of chemical batteries.
So... your phone may recharge in 20 seconds, but only run for an hour or two.
Still it is great progress. Imagine a normal battery for the long runs, and this quick charge capacitor for a fast recharge in between.

WakeLock on HTC ONE!
Okey!Another problem i found when installed GSam...Why is consuming too much battery than others apps that i use...?
Tryed to find in forums and internet : is possible to be from a media files or media scanner(i'm not sure because i compared results of my htc ONE with Galaxy Note ( in Samsung i have tons of media files and usage by this "Wakelock media " is only 4% )...And another source from interent says that : Wake Lock can consume and installed apps who do a background work and stop cpu from sleep! Anyway i want to know more about this! Thanks to all.

[TUT] Extending Battery Life

So our phone has a lithium Ion battery right? Well heres some things most people do not know about this type of battery.
Sorry if this has been posted before!
Li-ion batteries begin to degrade as soon as they start to be used.
One cycle is based on a 100% depth of discharge (e.g. discharging from full to empty), the potential number of charges can be increased by not allowing the battery to become fully discharged before topping it up. For example, allowing a fully charged battery rated at 500 cycles to drop to 50% before recharging could potentially triple the number of charge/discharge cycles to 1500 before the battery capacity degrades, thus increasing the batteries overall lifespan. However, this also means the battery will need to be plugged in more regularly.
This means that keeping the phone topped up, and not waiting for full discharges will potentially extend the battery life of the phone.
In no way am i saying this a definite thing, as i do not know, and this wont extend your screen on time if that's what your after, it will offer you the same amount of screen on time, for an extended period of time.
So to conclude, charging little and often can extend the life of your battery. In theory anyways. I read up on this from a few articles and websites, too many to reference, but this is the combined knowledge i found.
There are still a lot of people who thinks that you must discharge to empty.
This was required when NiCd batteries were in use. Li-Ion are different.
Thanks for posting that! :highfive:
I have read on Note 3 forums how people cry about their battery life.
Thwir new software upgrade lowered thwir screen ON time to "only" 4-5 hours from 6-7. Whereby I am more then happy if i get 2-3 hours of screen time.
It makes me question my battery and software...

Friend, I wrote it looking at the topic of the thread. Hope this will help people who are looking to optimise their battery by tweaking some settings in CM 11.
At least helpful to those who have subscribed to this thread !
@sPEADy and @prem911 what ROM + kernel combos are you guys using ? :good:
@sprite048 I am using the nightly form 07th January.......and all defualt CM did'nt change anything
best battery saving strategy:
1) turn off wifi and 3g
2) put down your phone and pick up a book to read
3) dont touch you phone, use the landline to make call and laptop for messaging
right, speady?
Just kidding, WiFi and 3G are actually your battery killer. I'm currently using CM11 and can have 3 hours light gaming (Plague Inc.) with 700MHz CPU and 200MHz GPU settings. Another tip is dont use background process (such as news, email or even swiftkey; Google location accessing as well), they do wake your phone up regularly to sense if you have connection with the Internet Lord.
