[Q] Lens vibration/camera display issues - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear fellow forum users/Z1 owners,
I'm a new user of a Sony Xperia Z1. I've been using my phone for about a week now to take photos, and I've noticed that there is a problem with the camera display. When I move my phone to take a photo of another subject, the display actually lags behind and sometimes freezes for a second before finally catching up with my movements. Do any of you face similar issues?
Another question I'd like to ask, would be the vibration/movement of the lens as it refocuses, especially on macro shots. It makes this small "tick" sound and vibrates while attempting to focus, something which I've not experienced on other cameras. Is this natural or is it a hardware issue that I should get Sony to check?
Thanks for taking your time to read this post, and I look forward to hearing your responses.
Cheers,
Sonynoob

I must say - never heard for that problems.
I don't have that issues, my camera is working great, no vibrations, no lag - full HD recording or shooting picts - all works great.

Just tested the camera in a quiet environment and I must say, it seems to produce the 'tick' sound before every shot...it only gets worse in macro situations.

Same goes for me. I think it is a normal thing while camera struggles to focus.

Had this lag too the other night trying to shoot outdoor. I don't know if it was because too much stuff running in background or if it's the camera, only happened once.

Wat difference does it make after all, i mean, a 3mp autofocus should be alrite. But what if u need ur flash light at night and theres none.I hav a dilema, stick on the hermes with its wm6 and having flashlight or migrate to kaiser(i dont use gps)

I can't comment on the Kaiser's picture quality but when I owned a 8525, I never used the flash. The flash in 8525/Hermes, to me, was a joke. It did not really make any difference unless you were taking macro pictures at night. I'm glad that Tilt does not have it. One less thing to worry about. Just my opinion.
the only real use to the ''flash'' was the awesome flash-light.

agreed - I miss the flashlight.
the TyTN2 camera takes longer from button-push to snapshot than the TyTN - sometimes 2 seconds. Light sensitivity is better, but it's still a phone. Auto-focus seems to help but who can wait all that time?
yes the slow response time is kinda annoying. the pic quality is ok even without the flash, definitely not as good as my P1i sony ericsson.
The camera is better than the TyTN but no flash leads for very jumpy framerates in low light conditions. Nicest thing is the two-press camera button. Half press for focus and full press to take - much more like any other camera-phone. Quality still not up to that of a SE or a small digital camera though...

Agreed - camera quality passable but not a patch on my K800i.
slow..

yeah..i agree with the slow response,i was getting ready to call htc,but i see its just not my phone..it really suck waiting for the pic.
The image quality is OK (good for 3MP phone camera).
But the camera operation is very slow, jumpy and blurry when there are lot of movement of the object or when you pan the phone. I hate this.
And yes, the lag is really, really annoying You will not be able to take picture of moving object!
Flip chart text legible after transfer to PC?
Can someone share an image of a "flip chart" with letters or numerals approximately the same height as a man's palm?
I'm trying to decide between the Tilt (3MP, no flash) and the BB Curve (2MP, with flash). Shooting flip charts in typical conference room light with no natural window light is the only camera utilization that I expect. The images will be captured on the device, then transferred to a PC for transcription -- with essentially infinite optical zoom capability available.
Best,
Camera speed with shutter sound disabled?
Does your Tilt/Tytn II camera speed increase with shutter sound disabled? I read that idea on another thread but haven't seen it confirmed here or elsewhere.
seems pretty good to me...

I will put up others shortly... ;-)

Does anyone else notice a click when the camera has finished focusing?
its normal. my sony ericsson K790a with autofocus clicks after focusing as well.
Def miss the flashlight... but mainly because of using it as a flashlight to look for things
But the refresh late is appauling which is annoying
Having said that, if you are stable and get rid of any shaking, i think the camera is actually really good. I took some scenery pictures in the car while going to Kent and even though we were moving at 70mph or so, they came out without any blurryness or noise on the pictures.
If they get rid of the refresh rate in darker (and I dont mean even dusk type light but just not daylight) areas, the camera will be perfect (for a phone)
I just upgraded from my old nokia 6682 to the kaiser. Here's two shots of roughly the same thing.
Nokia 6682:
Kaiser:
This is low light night conditions. Nokia is a complete joke. Kaiser is infinitely better but still no comparison to ccd cameras.
It's real slow taking pictures. That's for sure. And the only way to get digital camera replacement shots is to be really really still while taking it, which is real hard when it takes multiple seconds to take the picture.
edit: sorry I'll take a different set of pictures tomorrow. Noticed something in the pictures

TyTN II choppy/laggy main camera but fast/quick 2ndary camera?

So I was playing around and I noticed that when using the main camera it was really choppy, but when I used the secondary camera it was fine, this is for both photos and videos. But out of fluke one time today the main camera had no lag...
So when recording video it's really choppy and photos if I move even the slightest it blurs =/ it's not quick refresh at all.
Using the secondary camera it seems to be very quick and recording videos is fast, not choppy at all.
Any solutions?
After some quick searches I Found this is a common problem...but doesn't answer my question how I got it to work perfect under the same conditions (I was inside the whole time same light conditions)
*shrugs*
The primary camera lags because it shifts into night mode when there is low light so as to get as much light into the lens. Trust me, try going outside when it's quite bright or something and the camera will be sooth as silk
Some people hate this feature though. Not sure if you can switch this "quirk" off so it only happens manually.

That's the funny thing though...it was perfectly fine after this 'glitch' happened haha...in the same light conditions, I'm trying to make that happen all the time

Camera - focus issue with audible noise

Recently the camera has started to exhibit some odd behaviour. Occasionally when launching the app, the camera will take several seconds to focus and you can actually hear quite clearly some kind of mechanical noises going on. It's not every time the case but this never happened before...
Anyone else encountered this strange issue? I will do some more testing in different lighting conditions to get a better grasp on the issue.

After almost a year, camera in this device is still a mystery to me. Questions

Hey. I'm an owner of a P20 Pro for almost a year now, and I always had good experience using it. However the last couple of weeks I've been bugged with some issues with the camera. Stills are fine, and they look great, but apart from that, everything else just looks horrible. I've read multiple threads over the last year where people discussed OIS of the camera in P20 Pro, pros and cons etc.
Some said that not 1, but 3 rear cameras are OIS. It feels like I'm missing something on my phone as the stabilisation feels really weird. Here are my observations:
1.) Camera in photo mode takes 2-3 seconds before you see it "grips" something to keep it stabilised. However, this does not feel like OIS at all. At least when tested devices like Pixel 2, Samsung S9 etc. How is it possible that camera supposedly has analog stabilisation, yet it takes 2 seconds before stabilisation finally kicks in?
2.) Sometimes stabilisation just does not kick in. This seems to be the case in low light or low contrast environments, and it seems like the camera just can't get a "grip" on something to keep it stabilised. Shouldn't OIS work regardless of the situation you're in?
3.) Video is absolutely horrific. Same as in PHOTO mode, the video just takes 2 seconds before you see it "stabilised". Then even once it's stabilised every camera movement just makes subjects on video choppy, and the movement is far from being smooth.
4.) For the last couple of days the stabilisation just does not work at all. It seems that sometimes when I open the camera, it just won't work no matter how long I wait. The preview is shaky. Also, if camera is physically OIS, why is it not supported in 4K or even 60p? I don't get that.
EDIT: Just found out that turning "beauty mode" in video mode ON, also a bit zooms out and disables the stabilisation. HOW? Like, why? How are these things connected? I don't understand the logic behind it.
To me it really seems like there's software stabilisation doing the work, which is quite frankly poorly done. Yet, there are videos of people dissasembling the device showing the cameras are indeed OIS.
Am I missing something here, guys? I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find similar thread.

Question Strong rattling sound when shaking the phone

So by complete accident I noticed that whenever I shake my 11 Ultra, a strong rattling sound comes from the top portion of the phone, like there's something loose inside. After a bit of testing I assumed it's the OIS from the wide angle, since whenever that camera is used, and the OIS kicks in, the sound when shaken becomes very small. But anyways, is this normal?
This may sound like a strange request, but please, could you people shake your device and give a feedback here to know if it's just my unit?
It’s normal.
Ah ah by accident too, i noticed the same few days ago.
And when i change camera lens in pro mode, i have a little sound similary as haptic.
That's reassuring, i am not the only one. But why we have this thing ?
It's the camera and OIS. It's normal.

It’s the stabilization module inside the camera shaking. It’s a moving part so it’s basically floating when you’re not using it. When you shake the phone you make it move inside the camera, thus the rattling noise.
And obviously, it’s for stabilizing the camera when you’re moving so you don’t get the blur effect.
Thank you guys for your feedback, good to know that it's normal. Have a nice day everyone!
