[Q] Power on cover when charging - Asus Transformer TF701

Power on cover when charging,
I don't know if I use the correct words but when my TF701 is charging and I go over the cover with my fingers I feel a some tingling.
If I rotate the charger in the socket it's a bit else but still it's there.
When I use my TF101 charger I don't feel this at all.
Any else feel this and know a possible solution?
Elrar

It's common on the tf700 as well as if the tablet is not fully grounded while charging.

Don't have this behavior.
But when on charger it has no ground connection.

I have this issue with my TF700 when in Europe but not when in the United States. It only happens when charging the keyboard dock. Since I use the same charger and don't have any issues with other electronic devices, I assume that it is related to a combination of the voltage and grounding in my dock.

Got my TF701 today and its the same.

some details
Here's what I have noticed so far:
Infos:
- The TF101 was shipped with a different charger. On that one I have a set of plugs to match different sockets (sort of a travel adapter).
- I live in Switzerland, ungrounded connectors look a bit like this <- -> and can be used rotated. Connectors with PE look more like this <-.->, and cannot be rotated.
- In any test I used the docking, and tried with two identical power supplies
- The TF101 charger showed this effect from day one, but only in one orientation. Use it the other way round, problem gone.
- The TF30x charger shows this effect, but in both charger orientations, and slightly less noticeable
- The TF701 charger shows the same effect as with the TF30x
Let's swap chargers. (The cables are different, the chargers themselves, which generally are no more than 5V/15V CV, which switch from 5V to 15V when a tablet is detected are interchangeable).
This showed the effect is clearly caused by the chargers. It's safe to say there's different circuitry inside the different charger revisions.
My conclusion: If you want to get rid of this effect, try finding one of the old international chargers and use it with your TF701 cable.
What may work: Try an isolation transformer
Also worth a try: Aftermarket chargers

I'm pretty sure this is called 'stray voltage', but not a problem.
as i can not post links, try this:
search google for 'noteboook tingle sensation', click the dell community link
also, wikipedia has an article about stray voltage (warning: technical)

As for a question, is it possible to charge with both the Pogo Charger and USB, at the same time, for faster charging?

Now THAT is an interesting question.
Err, so release an actual charger later sold separately? I thought it was supposed to be a pogo dock...

We've been hearing that they meant to ship that pogo charger with the tablet but something stopped them at the last minute.
My favorite theory? It's an awful lot like an Apple Mag Safe connector, and Apple would LOVE to get a sales ban if they thought they could make it stick. They'd screw both Google and Samsung at the same time and laugh the whole way. So I bet Google and/or Samsung decided not to risk it.
The other theory was that it was defective or didn't pass safety certification. Also likely.
But the one theory that I personally (and completely) reject is that they held back on it in order to make more money selling it as an accessory. Why? Because Samsung AND Google have a **** record in getting device accessories to market in a timely manner, for one thing. So they just don't end up selling that many, if they sell them at all (look at all the hard to find Nexus phone docks, car docks, cases, etc).
And I don't think they held it back to cut costs on the N10 since it's really only a few more pennies expensive than a USB to microUSB connector...same amount of wires, a little bit more plastic, and a couple of cheap magnets that plug into the SAME mains charger they already shipped with the device.

I think when it will become available all you gonna need is the special magnetic plug with the wire. No need new plug in adapter that goes to the wall ,that one on the picture is the original adapter came with the tablet same specs.
So than it should not be expensive!!
And I'm sure Google is aware of the issue.

Ops I did not see your post , but that make sense!
The charger in the pics above is labeled 5V/2A (10W) - the same as the travel charger that comes with the N10 - in fact it is labeled "travel adapter", so this IS the charger that comes with the N10.
I hope the pogo charger will have at least 5V/5A (25W) when they release it. Even a 5V/10A (50W) would not really be too strong for a 9000mAh battery.

5V/2A feeding through the pogo charger should be fine.
2 amp chargers are what the Galaxy Tab/Note 10.1, the iPad1/2/3/4, Transformer, Xoom, etc use with similar sized batteries. Of course they're all mated to a higher-rated connector than microUSB.
A 2 amp charger should mean 2 hours from empty to fully charged, and enough current to throw a slower charge on while using the tablet.
I estimates for my nexus 10, it would take around 7-7.5 hours for a full charge

I don't know much about batteries, but in a mathematical point of view, shouldn't a 9Ah battery take 4,5 hours to fully charge if supplied with constant 2A? 2A * 4,5h = 9Ah

Yep. But a LiIon charging current always tapers off towards the end (last ~20%), so it will take longer than that.

In theory, yes. Maybe they limited the amount of current that can be applied via the micro USB port, though. I will not be the one to test it.

I need one of these, got spoiled with how fast my old Xoom would charge. I'd likely end up buying two if I could, one as my home charger and extra cable to keep in my truck. I'm still glad the option of micro USB is on the Nexus too though.
Someone has already the nexus 10? That would clear all the questions...
I do, and indeed it takes almost 5 hours to charge, like they said, elemental physics.
I should receive an external battery with 3a, will try that, though I don't know if the 3a are supplied or if they are 2 plus 1

Second Charger

Has anyone found a wall charger that they're happy with? I have an Amazon basics 2.1 Amp one that charges OK and shows up as an A/C charger in the battery stats, but it's not as fast as the stock one (which already is slow).
I'd post a link to what I have, but the forum still sees me as a newbie even though I've been lurking around for a few years now.

If you don't really care about super fast charging time almost all usb wall chargers are the same because of the limitations of a usb cable. Just color, shape, and size might vary
I'm using the my hp Touchpad charger. It seems like it charges faster than the original charger. I'll have to test and see though.

I bought a pogo charger so it won't take up the micro usb slot and also safer charging with pets (or kids). If I'm lucky it will charge faster too.
the pogo charger uses the original samsung ac adapter though.. it doesn't come with one
I just use any random charger I have (I think I use an old Kindle one right now) and leave it charge while I sleep. I have no complaints and have a POGO on order.
I ordered the Powergen chargers for both the wall and my car. They supply 3.1 amps so whatever the max is that the N10 will take, it will get it.
Search for "powergen 3.1" on Amazon and you'll find both.

Thanks everyone for your input. I ended up ordering the Powergen 3.1 charger suggested above. I'll report back on what my experience is. I did note that one of the reviews of that item at Amazon says it charges the Nexus 10 well, so my hopes are high.
Next question - anyone know what happens if you plug in the POGO charger and a USB charger at the same time?
Your charger isnt going to make a great deal of difference in charge time. An updated and/or custom kernel will help a LOT more with that.
The AC wall unit isn't a charger, it's the power supply for the charger inside the N10.
Me and another N10 owner measured how much current the N10 draws from the PS and it was less than 1A, so the device isn't even asking anywhere near the max that the PS can supply. Unless there is someother reason and there very well could be, a larger PS "might" be a waste of time/money.
I think the N10 charger uses a special usb protocol which allows it to charger faster than most

I'm intrigued; how is that? More importantly, does such a kernel currently exist? I started this thread in search of a second charger that just worked as well as the original one. I'd be happier if could find something that did better than the OEM.

What I can tell you is that both powergen units charge the N10 fine.
What I can't tell you is whether they charge the N10 any faster than the stock wall unit. I haven't done any testing.
I'm expecting my pogo cable any day, maybe I'll do some testing then.
There are so many differing theories here, who knows?

Yes so many, maybe if someone would write to Mr google and ask him he would explains it to us hehehe
I have seen some dual USB port PS that are rated "total" for both "not" each port. How is this PowerGen 3.1?
Just check and it's listed as "shared", so that's 3.1A total.
The description clearly states that each port can supply up to 3.1A. If both are used at once, the 3.1A is shared.

Tf701t Mains Adapters

Hi guys,
I had more than one mains charging adapter for my TF700 as it was more convenient to leave one plugged in permanently on my desk and carry another around in my laptop bag for out of house charging.
Had a look around and can't find any charging adapters or usb cables available. Has anyone seen any anywhere?
I sent an email to Asus Shop and had the following response:
"Dear Owen,
Thank you for your interest to our e-shop
Unfortunately we don’t have this product in our shop but that does not mean this product in not available elsewhere. ASUS Shop is an outlet for refurbished ASUS tablets and notebooks – the range of accessories offered in our shop is rather limited.
You should be able to obtain this product from following Asusparts site. Or please contact ASUS Support Team for a list of retailers."
However, they don't list the TF701 yet
Damn Asus for changing the proprietary charger!!!
I remember from when the tf101 released, it took months before there was official acessories available from asus.
I dont expect to get a spare charger for a good couple of months.
I think if you already have a wall plug from your tf700, you could probably get away with just getting another tf701 USB cable and plugging it in to your TF700 wall plug.

Problem is, there are currently no USB cables for the new, slightly smaller connector that the TF701t uses.

This one even comes with an adaptor for the tf700. I don't own one but it has a lot of favorable reviews. I have owned other batteries by the same company and never had a problem with them. There's also a switchable voltage external battery on amazon that claims its 12V setting works with Asus tablets. Search amazon for 12v external battery. Other sites probably carry them as well but I only buy from amazon because returns are so dang easy.

When the tf101 was my main tablet I bought a cheap in-car charger off ebay. The seller claimed the circuitry inside boosts the voltage to 15V (cars generally run on 12V). Here's what happended: The tablet did actually try to charge, and it indicated it did. But as the adapter was a fake (I teared it down to find a diode inside and 11.2V output voltage), the voltage was way too low. The power supply circuitry inside the tablet converts the 15V down to whatever it uses (the 15V will be chosen because that way the current can be kept low enough for standard usb connectors) but the input was too low, and it whined. What happened is, even while displaying that it's charging, the battery drained. This all makes sense.
So if I can provide some advice here: 12V was too low to charge a tf101. The tf701 can, if switched off, be charged off 5V. I'm pretty sure in the worst case you'll see behavior like on my tf101, but will be able to charge if switched off. This is valid for in-car chargers and backup batteries. I wouldn't go for less than 15V. What I use in my car is a variable voltage multi supply for notebooks and a original asus cable soldered to it.

USB car charger

I have a few of the belkin/off brand dual USB auto adapters. But they all have output of around 500mA so basically when using bluetooth and GPS on the rd I'm drawing more power than I'm getting. I've looked around on amazon for some usb adapters but seems like a lot of them for some reason only really fast charge with IPads or other apple devices and for some reason they slow charge android devices. Apparently iphones have some sort of communications with the chargers to draw more power.
So my question is does anyone have one or know of one that works with the G2 and fast charges. I'd prefer one that is flush like my existing belkin and not one that sticks out a few inches. Dual ports would be nice, but at this point I'm not picky. Having said that, I'd like to not spend $30 on it.
To add to it, I installed some battery monitor widget and while in the car today I just popped it open and noticed that it said "USB Connected Discharging" So basically It actually drains power quicker than if it wasn't connected to the charger at all!

So my question is does anyone have one or know of one that works with the G2 and fast charges. I'd prefer one that is flush like my existing belkin and not one that sticks out a few inches. Dual ports would be nice, but at this point I'm not picky. Having said that, I'd like to not spend $30 on it.

There is a long thread on this already.

It seems that the bigger issue is not finding a 2amp charger, but a USB cable with the correct gauge similar to the oem one. I believe the oem cable is 20 gauge and I believe I found one on Amazon.

I don't get why it's such a difficult thing to find? Doesn't LG make a car charger that charges it's own phone?
I use my older Motorola ones and they work fine. Not full 2 amp but I can stream iheartradio or Pandora and the phone will charge up still. But the screen is off, not like using GPS. Still would like a fast charger tho.
I have an Anker 24w 2 port charger and it charges my phone as fast as the wall charger. I tested it with a charger doctor and it does read 1.8a current flowing thru.

I got a charger made by rocket dog I do believe for best buy best car charger I've ever had and it has an extra usb on the top

It's not the charger that seems to be the problem. 2a Chargers can be had in many places. It seems a 20 gauge wire is the difference.
Here is a link to a post I made in another thread with a tested and working setup in my car
Cheap too.

No, the problem is the op isn't using a charger designed for Android.

Wireless Charging

Is there any good wireless chargers out there that are compatible with the Xperia 1 II.
I've got this one ready which I'm presuming will work;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07DBXZZN3?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I'm not bothered that this may or may not charge at the fastest wireless capabilit, as it'll be my bedside table nighttime charger
I have just backed to that project
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ohsnapofficial/ohsnap-grip-how-smart-people-use-smartphones
i like the fact that it got a magnet so you won't consume a charge cycle for removing it from the dock for few seconds
I'm assuming my Ioniq Premium EV wireless charger will do the trick. A bit on the expensive side, but it comes with a car.
I just bought this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Ste...arger&qid=1592015010&sprefix=spigen+wi&sr=8-5
I have a Samsung one and it works ok.

Does it work? How long to charge? What adaptor are you using with it?
Want something by my computer, so needs to be reasonably fast.

It works even with the Spigen case. Though I couldn't say how long it takes as I only use it at nighttime as a stand, plus I have a generic multi-usb plug that it's plugged in to and so it won;t be charging at it's fastest speed anyways.
Sorry not to be of any help there, someone else soon I'm sure will be of more assistance

What do you mean by compatible? Qi is the only wireless charging standard so any wireless charger works

Loads of the wireless charges say Samsung compatible 10watts all other models 5watts
Or Apple compatible etc...
Use the one on the picture. It's old but does the job well. It even works with the official Sony window case.
Do we have an Official Sony OEM Wireless Charger?
I thought my eyes played a trick on me that a few weeks after the Xperia 1 II was announced in February that I saw a new wireless charger accessories in the Sony Mobile UK website. But when I check it again now, it's not there. I wonder if it was never there in the first place and my eyes played a trick on me.
I think the last wireless charger that Sony produced was the WCH20 for the XZ2. But it's said that the product is discontinued, and I find it really difficult to find one. I know I can use any qi-compatible wireless charger (like the Samsung one, which I kind of like), but I don't like having my accessories not part of the Sony ecosystem.
Does anyone know if Sony has an in-production wireless charger or have some plans to reintroduce them as well? I find it odd that they sell a phone with wireless charging capability but not complimented by the accessories needed to fully utilise that feature. Since the product page says that "Wireless charger sold separately". Now, does that mean we have to get it from somewhere else, or that Sony is going to sell their wireless charger separately?
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
I bought a Yootech one off Amazon. Works well, puts in just under 3000mah.

I found one at the Sony Center (look at my previous post) but it's an older model. They are planning on bringing back the xz2 / xz3 charger but due to the pandemic the production is slow. There are some New old Stock on ebay and amazon uk
Any recommendations for a reasonably inexpensive wireless charger that charges the phone quickly?
I'm using the Pixel Stand

Virtually any Qi charger that supports over 11w charging will work fine.
Only thing is, the phone seem to get hot when wireless charging much more than when using a cable.
Tip
I use a QI stand for my XZ2 P and left the phone on there (usually at night and more) and after 18 months the battery had swollen and was pushing the screen off
New battery fitted and programmed timer fitted to the mains outlet, working out my charging patterns I have set timed on off program that limits the charging times, it has a manual override if I need it but generally don't
so it charges for 2 hours from 4am and 5 more cycles during the day of 30mins each - sometimes I turn it off depending on my usage and charge level - so far working very well
The longest period on continuous charge is 2 hours
I highly recommend this to everyone who finds themselves leaving their phone on charge for long periods

Thanks tonev!
I bought one today from Ebay, 32 euro shipping included
Should I get a 10w or a 15w QI charger?
