Obtaining Root - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Searched for two days before asking this so if I missed this-my apologies in advance. Is there or is there not a working root tool/utility if I currently have 4.3 on the device (I was sent a new one and it was updated already)-and what/where is it? Please point me in the right direction and I really, really appreciate the help here.

How bout u post in correct section but first why dont u use something called google not sure if u know how but do this.
1. Type in address bar www.google.com

Some context since I have a moment: I Used some type of tool/program to root this thing when I got launch day. I finally broke it on a business trip in Japan last week and I have honestly fell off the forums completely since my son was born about the same time as I originally rooted this thing. That, combined with a partnership I have taken on in business- has essentially taken all free time away and, when my replacement arrived yesterday, I felt completely inept and without any reference point in my head to work from. Sad, I really miss having the time to mess around with my gadgets and I've learned so much here, but I'm really hoping to find some balance soon enough. So on lunch, after a day and a half of searching, I gave up and indeed made a very clumsy post, absent of any real thought-clearly showing some frustration. I Still have no idea where this all in one that I know I used to root this originally went and I certainly posted in the wrong section-no excuse for that- the gentleman has every right to react how he sees fit although after 7 years here I never found any productivity come out of commenting in that manor-so I choose to conduct myself differently from the outset. Appreciate the time and help.

I hear you; five kids, a full time job, and full time school and I try to build ROMs for this device. I understand where your coming from. Not the end of the world. But, as I have said in my threads before, if you make a really silly request, I reserve the right to mess with you about it. That's just me. But, I do it in playfulness, not actual meanness. Be cool, and if you need any help with anything, look me up.

No doubt you have that right and I'm all for bustin chops as well-to a point of course and yours was constructive. But some of the rage that I regularly see come out in comments here really bewilders me-I mean a paragraph about what a blanking idiot someone is or details about what they can go do to themselves- all because they are having trouble with something or even made a thoughtless post (like I did) -makes me want to say- "dude what happened in your day/life to react that strongly over something so insignificant?". Who knows. Anyway, I really appreciate you reaching out and relating to my situation a bit- especially since you clearly have a very busy life yourself-to say the least.

Avoiding over air updates for next time...

This over air update, I think everyone can agree, was a complete disaster. It didn't seem to matter whether you were completely stock or rooted, etc... and it could completely brick your phone. It scared the ever loving crap out of me. My phone kept contacting the update server (never started downloading) but I was able to sneak in the update via Clockwork.
My query is this... aimed at the developers here. Is it possible in any way, that a hack could be created that would block the connection to the over air updates? It became my understanding that once it started, you were basically stuck with it and had no choice in the matter.
Is it really that difficult to post in the correct section?
My bad... I guess. I thought a question directed towards developers would belong here. A moderator is welcome to move it as they see fit. And hopefully this isn't seen as rude... I really was just trying to bring up an honest question and believed it to be posted in the right place.
No need to be rude about it, this does nothing to foster a growing community

You're a senior member; he is not. Loosen up a bit and stop being rude. You took the time to post your rude comment when you could just have easily given an answer (assuming you knew it which appears not be the case) and then nicely mentioned the correct location for the post.
One of the reasons I hate posting. All these people always attack everything u do or say

I appreciate this, I really did think I'd posed the question in the right place... as it's not a "can I stop the update" question, but "does a developer know if that area of the OS could be stopped with hack." I should add I'm not a kid asking someone to hack my phone, this is purely hypothetical.
It's not such a big deal if you can, in fact deny the over-air update. I'd gotten the impression from several posts that it was nearly forced. Maybe it was just the issue of stopped downloads that got installed partially... I'm not sure.
Anyway, thanks zelendel. What's OP? My sign on should say maximus-dev... I see OP next to peoples member level... but thought that's what meant they were signed on.
OP = original poster. i.e. the person who started the thread

OP stands for Orignal Poster. I think it was stopped downloads that caused some issues but I have A buddy that has one as well and he didnt even know there was an update till I told him so I think you have to check for the update, I dont see anyone being able to push an update to your phone weather you want it or not. But then again I could be wrong, been known to happen a time or two

There was an AT&T link around here that said that you are allowed to postpone updating for a up to two times but will be required to update the third time. I am not sure how that works, because I have not yet been notified of the OTA update that is going to fail (because my phone is flashed off stock). I am sure it is something like a modeless dialog box where you have two choices the first two times, but the third time you must chose to update. Since I already have the OTA update installed, I am not sure what's going to happen when my time comes, and I can't postpone any more.
I saw the install or postpone but I only saw that after I looked for the update and DL it, then of course everything went to hell lol

[Q] Loud Popping/"Gunfire" sound on CM9

Hi all,
I just installed CM9 on my Touchpad earlier today, and whenever I try to perform ANY task with sound (e.g. typing on the keyboard, receiving a notification, playing music, etc.), I hear a loud, sharp series of static-filled pops, almost like the sound of gunfire on one of the old G.I. Joe tanks I played with as a kid.
I've searched multiple forums, but couldn't find any specific issues such as this. Everything else seems to be working well so far, I just don't know if it's something I can potentially fix, if I should reflash, or if I totally messed something up!
FWIW, the Touchpad was jailbroken before, but I don't think that matters for a different partition.(?)
- Anyway, the tablet is running CM build 9-20120329 Nightly tenderloin (Build# IML74K)
Thanks in advance for any help!

To say you searched and found no info is pretty much a lie since it's a well documented issue some Touchpads have with audio.... If the last few nightly ROMs don't fix it then you have one of those Touchpads that is just gonna have issues

You are foolish. Dead stupid, in fact. I searched, and unless you'd like to link it up, the "documented" audio issues involve audio not working, speaker/headset confusion, and static or distortion occurring especially when the screen shut off. NOTHING about not working at all.
I fixed it on my own, but not with thanks to you. Since calling you a douchebag could violate forum rules, I'll simply state that your attitude would be symptomatic of having the personality of a douche.
And I got it fixed by myself, by the way. Clown.

Cdzo.... How have you not been banned yet. I've yet to see you do anything but put people down in the touchpad section. For someone who claims numerous times to never have been spoonfed anything and always finds solutions on their own.. You don't seem to know a whole heck of a lot.
Anyhow, have you tried doing a clean install? Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik or try another ROM?

And if you're going to use nightly builds I would suggest going with a more recent one.. I have no issues with the latest.

I would suggest that you use the latest nightly build to... if you're still experiencing the error after flashing. Then I suggest that you use webos doctor to format the touchpad and reinstall cm9 without any MODS. (Have you applied the Mic Fix?)

Yeah you know a lot too dontcha... especially since you suggested go with a recently nightly just like I did.
Why have I not been banned? That's easy! I haven't cursed or flamed anyone! I merely call it like it is. Just like those that tell me not to read the newbie posts that clutter the forum, my advice to the rest of you is the same... if you don't like what I have to say to a post then don't read it. Just like the newbie thinks they can post without putting forth some effort then I think I can respond what the VAST majority of the more experienced would like to say but don't dare or just don't have the time.

although if you followed the 'advice' of others about not posting that kind of stuff...it would have a bigger effect than you telling others not to read your post. i'm not suggesting you to be banned....but leave the moderating to the mods....im sure one day they'll get fed up of the same threads being made again and again and again and decide to put their foot down. Till then just offer advice without the bluntness. at the end of the day it's not like you're hosting xda that all these threads are taking up your server space and you end up paying more, so chill out
its not like what you're saying is total bs (unlike countless others ive seen)....there are other ways to say it though and yours isn't really a good way. That's how i call it, regardless of what others are saying for you to be banned for just pointing out that someone's done something SLIGHTLY wrong (albeit with some anger)

Thank you to the two others who suggested the latest nightlies. I had seen that the build I used had few reported problems other than Wifi, so I tried that first before I went to anything newer!

Please help!

I feel like an idiot, I am personally a galaxy note 2 rooted and custom rom'd user. The G1 was my first android phone years ago. I got 2 g1's for my mom and dad and am trying to get a custom recovery on them. I have rooted both, (1 on 1.5 and the other 1.6) and cannot even see clockwork mod rom manager in the market. I'm guessing because it is such an old android build. What the hell do I do to get a custom recovery on these? All the sites I have found that host amon ra 1.7 do not have the file any more. I wish it was just as easy as installing rom manager, but I canot find it in the market. Please help me, my parents are without phones and I look like a fool.

Ok, first, I will say THANK YOU. As I have already ready that and every other thread and must have missed the section that I just now found.
Second, you need to learn how to talk to people, because at risk of sounding like a keyboard cowboy, I am not the type of person that people talk to that way. I am not trying to flame here, I am thankful that you just helped me, but please understand that there is a right and wrong way to talk to people.
Again,
Thank you for helping me see what I had preciously overlooked.
Seriously... No need to be on a high horse here fella, trying to help you understand how and when to post in a forum, if you spent any time in the stickies you would see rules on where to post, theyre very basic and usualy shouldnt even need to be said as theyre kinda obvious. When you hit the search key it may be kinda hard at first, but then you realize its sorted by date, and when "recovery" pops up 30 times in the past fews feeks you haved to assume thered might be something for you in there
And yes i am just trying to help so i appreciate you saying thank you but really, your on the internet, dont be tough, i and everyone else will talk to you however we want, no one is tough on the internet, dont pretend like people care who you are and just be happy you were pointed in the right direction

Lol, I have been a member of this forum longer than you, if you want to talk to me, I will pm you my phone number. I will also fly to see you. I can afford that. I dont live in my parents basement. I would love to continue this conversation in person, and will arrange it if you oblige, pm me. Please.
Im glad you made it out of your parents basment, again no one cares, no one cares how much money you have or that you dont have a fear of planes. No one cares how long youve been on the internet or members of a forum. And especially no one cares how tough you are. Feel free to waste your time flying down to see me, i and no one else will care that you do.
And for the sake of pointing out the obvious again, saying youve been a member of xda longer than i just shows that you should know where and when to post and just be greatful you got help anyhow, how about you show how tough you are by fighting the urge to even repond to this and learn to let it go, be greatful, and most important, be quiet

Again, thank you for your help I honestly appreciate it. I just thought you came across a little harsh originally. No point of getting tough like you said, thanks again.
you know i should apologize too, i used to be very hot tempered back in the day and have come down to a normal level over the years, i appreciate you responding in kind
to clarify my purpose is to help people here and some time i come off as harsh only because im busy at the moment or get tired of similar question being asked
anyhow if you need any further help just ask, im around frequently and enjoy helping - just remember this isnt a **** comparing contest so we can leave it at that
good luck on rooting your phones

want to install

Hello all I am new to this forum but not computers in general. I would like to install CM9 on my touch pad and I need a lil(lot) of help..lol.. I have never flashed on os before I have just done clean installs on desktops and such and I also have never done a dual boot before. So I guess I basically need a step by step guide to installing CM 9 on my tp..
Welcome. As a member of this forum, you are expected to search and read for yourself; no one will search for you or hold your hand. A very good step by step link is easily found in the dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147284.
:good: thanks. Next problem I am having is I can not get the goo website to open so I can download acmeinstaller...
Isn't there a mirror?
I think I figured it out. thanks again for the help. Also I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158341
Is this a good tool kit to install android on the tp?
Sorry, never used it.

Reasonable search is expected...but your statement is not completely true. MANY people including myself help noobs all the time. Not everyone is a seasoned searcher in fact i help DEVS who are awesome in development but suck (lol) at using even google properly and it can be tough to find what u want. This is a help and information site ...some wont or dont have time to help what they deem a common sense /noob question. Were all here to help each other and a good starting point is to always remember we were all noobs once have a great day

Helping noobs is not the same as doing their work for them. I help. I point them towards guides that have already been written for their benefit. I step in when they run into problems. But. I don't hold their hands. I don't retype what has already been asked and answered many times. To do so would be to promote filling up these xda developers forums with junk, and keep treating them as noobs. Hopefully if properly guided they will then go from noobs to seasoned searchers and helpers of the next group noobs.

U didnt say any of that.you represented ME and others in your uncouth borderline Rude(just plain unfriendly to a new person on this wonderfully helpful site) comment. Nice helpful people is what makes this place grand. You could have said it i a couth way and you didnt and at the same tim saying it like you represent everyone here. Simply NOT true.if found that this person was lazy and maybe not inept at searching(everyone is different, some Good people just cant do what you deem common sense) then you can nicely put it to them and say hey bro you need to do a little more searching man but it's cool I'll help u out just remember next time or do u need tips on searching because its an art to be good at it . Or don't answer!!! Really? Is it that hard to be nice.or did u not realize you came off so callous? because everyone's done it ,I've done it but once confronted I apologized and was contrite ...what a man does or thats what i was taught. What u stated is somewhat true but not completely and certainly nowhere near the nice way I would say it not even close. Ive hopefully made my point.and seriously i mean it whan i say i wish you well.im jot being facetious.

I think there may be a language barrier here, especially concerning your use of the word "uncouth." I wrote curtly, but I did say welcome, I gave OP a quick explanation of XDA rules, and I gave him a link to a guide. And OP didn't seem to mind; he got a quick and helpful answer fast. Personally, I would rather get right to the helpful part instead of being wordy. And think we simply have a difference of opinion in the way we deliver words (I'm very, maybe overly, to-the-point in real life too). But the meat of what we're both saying here is the same: this is first and foremost a developer site, and though help is given here, members are expected to help themselves as well. Oh, and I'm not a man. I'm a woman.
Quite honestly, I don't appreciate being called callous/rude and being told that I must be contrite just because I don't phrase things like you do. Nice to me is being helpful, not using more words. But I do see where you're coming from. We just have a difference in delivery. And now we've spent more time and words talking about this than I did helping him. So I'm done here now.

Well done :good:. Now the fun begins don't forget to make a backup with cwm. AN APP called Rom Toolbox lite will make it easier if you used jcsullins cwm, just tell the app it's a custom cwm
Do ask a question if you get stuck as there are a lot of helpful people on this forum.
All the best.
Well now I have a problem. Got it to start installing but half way through the install it came up with an error saying that cm something or another was missing and that I needed to download it from hptouchpad.linuxhackers.ru. Tried that and there is no such site. Now I am stuck in usb mode with the 2 lil pings at the top of the screen and I can not get out of it...
I would recommend that you ACMEUninstall everything, make sure you've downloaded and moved all the files from your computer to your TP (including CWM), and try to ACMEInstall again.
Thanks will try that..
The guide I linked before has instructions for ACMEUninstaller. Another note: I would strongly advise that you ask questions on the forums instead of by PM. Generally, having multiple pairs of eyes on a question is better than having just one.
Thanks again man your a life saver... :good:
Man I am in love with this tablet now that I have android on it...

[Q] Samsung Note Issues

I just found the Samsung Note GT-N7000 lying on a wall by my job. what perfect timing seeing as my other phone broke. unfortunately, I'm having a few issues.
1. Phone will not perform a hard reset. I've done the volume up+ home+ power keys and the phone will not respond. I've tried doing it through the settings and can't seem to figure out the password.
2. WLAN fails to enable
3. I'm on T-Mobile and the phone will not recognize my data connection. I receieve calls and texts just fine. But, I cannot connect to the internet.
Is it possible the phone is region locked? would I have to go to T-Mobile and get them to unlock it? any help is greatly appreciated asap. I rely on my phone for work and really need it to perform.
I hate to be that person. But, bump
Could you not ask the original owner who put his phone down for a second, whether its simlocked...? As I am sure he/she will love to answer that for you..
I'm guessing by now, chances are the phone has prolly been reported stolen and de-activated by now... And will end up just being a Tablet very soon...

You act as if I made no attempt at finding the owner of the device. But, I don't think I need to explain myself to you.
if the phone was deactivated, would I still be able to receive calls and texts? because I can.
Who would lose a note and not want it back.however long it takes I think u should find a way to return it.return it to the network provider they will know the owner as I'm sure he or she is registered

It is true, you dont have to explain yourself to me... However, I am sure many other people see this post in the same way. As you've not extactly made your post appear as though you've tried all you can to return it to the rightful owner. No mention of this... Only that you found it on a wall and it comes in handy as your other phone has died? And barely 3.5 hrs after posting the initial request, that your bumping a thread for answers, which shows your desperate for that quick answer...
Some times it can take a couple of days before people see or will reply to a post, not hours...
Not wishing to be mean or anything, but ya gotta see it from other peoples point of view too... Not saying you didnt try to return it... But nothing in your posts express that, only your eagerness to Restore the phone into a working state that you can use...
Don't return it, there stupid fault for losing it... Keep it and enjoy it did.

Seriously? Really?
If so, then let's move further - if someone is stupid enough to keep the phone accessible in public, he just deserves to have it stolen.
The difference between pavement and somebody's pocket is negligible, isn't it?
PS. To the OP - usually, with a found phone, it's enough to dial one of the most recent calls to find who is the owner.
Well said p107r0... My thoughts exactly...
Its not hard to just dial the first person in the phonebook, or recent calls...
My dads mate lost his phone, ok so it wasnt a Smartphone or anything to be proud of finding... just ya old basic call/text type... But he uses it for work, all his contacts and would be lost without it...
Yet one day I was in a pub, enjoying a drink and I get a random call from his phone... The person who found it in the street dialed my number as it was alphabetically first and told me he found it and where he could return it too. I was so pleased to hear honesty from him, and told my dad who passed it onto his mate. This person even waited around for when was a good time for my dads mate to see him, he was so pleased to get it back he rewarded him....
So before anything says its their own dumb fault, they deserve it... Just think if it was your own phone... Would you be happy if you lost access to all your data?? Knowing someone has got something of YOURS?? If your that kind of person, well lets hope they take something from you or your family.. and see how it feels????
