changes in 4.3 and 4.4 to come - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hi guys, like all of you guys i just recently got the 4.3 MJA onto my device. The first thing i noticed was the 4g LTE signal was different, the next thing was that they added the equalizer thing on your volume control when listening to music. The font was also slightly different, other than that. not much else changed. the biggest thing for me is that i can now use full features on my galaxy gear.
Tell me what you guys think samsung should do with the 4.4 kitkat update? i want to hear your thoughts. Me personally i want to see a theme change for once instead of the green battery icon etc, also i'd like to see a new touchwiz version. kinda like aosp. Lastly maybe a theme change in the notification bar. i like how it's set up but it'll be really bad ass if they added some more cool features.

they have a wide audience, and mostly likely radical change is not gonna work for a portion of that audience, so I highly doubt you will see that happen on this phone. a possibility with the next, but definitly not until a future phone comes out with it first.

Not really a 4.4 thing but wish Samsung had optional TW themes while keeping their TW features. AOSP, seasonal, sports, tech, etc... TW based themes would be refreshing.

Samsung updated Google Maps.
Used Titanium Backup to go back to 6.x.

That would be fantastic! At the very least Samsung and Google should put in a theme engine like wanam where you can change the colors of the notification icons, area and pull down panel.

That would be so sick.... I would almost consider not rooting.... but I still deff would

First thing they should do is get rid of the ugly gingerbread green in the status bar. They never adopted holo blue so at least adopt the kitkat gray.

I still have yet to receive my 4.3 update

Either clear data on Google services apk or just manually update to 4.3.

[Q] Love to have the new 4.3... BUTTT!?

Hey there,
This has probably been answered before. so a simple redirect would be ok.
I love the stock look of the N7000 (menu buttons and locker) but all of the 4,3 roms have the Nexus menu buttons and app locker suck. I find those horrible to use.
First question... what would it be called (kinda nooby when it comes to launchers and such).... Are they called AOSP or AOKP or something.. or is it completely different.
Are there any roms which look like the stock rom.. but with enhanced features with the new 4.3 features?
Thanks in advance.
Ricky
aosp, aokp, cm, miui are just rom types.
By saying menu buttons you mean the whole look of an interface. You mean You want this stock 4.1.2 samsung blue stuff?
Because if this is what You want you may want to download samsung theme for cm from the google play.

I'm using PA myself and it allows for nice customization when it comes to looks. Have you tried that? There are also a few fun launchers that might solve your cosmetic issue. Is it mostly the new DPI settings you're having trouble with? Or just the general art style of Android?

I haven't tried PA yet. Next on the list.
I am looking for a stock icons/colour scheme, the apps logo not to look like the nexus variation of droid. Just me being an oldschool stock visuals.

I'm currently running Lungo ROM (android 4.0.4) because it's light.
If You are searching for more functions use PA, or the best "Jellybam".
That's the best ROM ever, but it uses a LOOOOT of memory.

[App Req] Stock Lollipop Dialer for S6

Hi! Anyone else missing the stock dialer features? I like how you can search Google for numbers and show who's calling. Is it possible to have it installed on S6 replacing the default dialer?
Thanks for your help!
I miss stock dialer too!
Me too
Bump. Perhaps one can port it?
I would like that too. Bump!
You can check this (updater script is not mine, I just changed the apks)... I still haven't an S6, but I use them on my Nexus
Contacts work. Dialer FCs.
I'm assuming flashing any zip will trip Knox? Any longer way to update workout it by chance?
Same here!
The Samsung stock dialer is SO UGLY!
Coming from a Nexus 5, this is the most annoying thing about my new S6 Edge.
2nd annoyance: the notification bar is as ugly as hell... :-/
Can't wait to get stock lollipop dialer on my S6!
Yes, I came from the nexus 5 too. Google should have the dialer on play store.

Yeah it's crazy. Why would they go to the trouble of making their own Clock app but then have it be inferior (both in terms of functionality and aesthetics) in every way to the Google one? Instead of making an inferior clock app, they should have allocated some programmers to making the flash LED turn off.

[Q] New touch wiz icons theme?

So I have seen the new icons for the upcoming Note 5 and GSedge+ and I seriously dislike the fact that the S line wasn't updated to these, Would anyone be able to create a theme with those new icons I honestly have no real gripes with how touch wiz looks now besides those darn icons! :crying:
I would try my hand at making the theme myself but have no idea to do so I've also tried to just change the icons but can't get the phone icon to change because of permission reasons and the app drawer button
If anyone would be so kind to give it a shot I would be very delighted or if there's something I'm missing on how to change all of the icons that would be awesome too thanks!
The latest update to the unbranded international edition has this feature. Makes me believe it will be brought to the carrier branded devices.
Oh wow that's good to hear thanks for the reply was beginning to give up any hope will keep my fingers crossed for that and the added apps edge that's in the GS6+
Hah, as we've seen though, AT&T shouldn't exactly inspire faith with updates at all. We're pretty far behind the 5.1.1 update other carriers have released, and that update didn't even include the new icons.

What's Your Daily Driver ROM?

I've been trying different ROM and each one seems to have their own unique hiccups. I'm looking for a ROM that stable and have all the features as a stock ROM. So far the closest to that is Aurora Full Note7 by Lanc-City. The only issues I'm having is that it sometimes it lag, mms group text doesn't work, and charging does not charge right.
[ROM] Maximum OvrDriVE 6.0.1 MM V3.2 (8/24/16) [910T/910W8/910T3] has been good, however, the dev has moved on so there is no continued development on it.

If you want everything working then go stock, root, install xposed with your favorite modules and get a good launcher.
I go back and forth between stock and project L ROM by Lanc-City.

I was using EPJ2 for a while and it's the best stock update so far. Had no issues with barely any lag. But I rooted I am now using Aurora 3.1 since I miss my note 7 lol. I had to use Textra since group messaging isn't working and no wifi calling. It's so far filling that void. I'm sure a lot of ex note 7 users can relate.
AICP and Broken are amazing
My daily driver, seemingly forever, will remain Emporia ROM (AKA Rapture ROM) on 5.1.1 Lollipop
I don't have an explanation why, but this ROM is WAY more fluid in every single aspect of the UI than any other ROM on marshmallow or Lollipop, and I have tried them all. Yes I am aware you can set animation speeds to be faster, etc. But even with them set to the default speed of 1x (I default use .5x for most), the entire ROM is more FLUID. Each transition is more smooth, every app opens faster and without lag, scrolling in every single app is WAY more fluid, etc. I actually noticed a huge visual difference between this ROM and stock or custom MM. The user experience is just way better in every way than Maximum Overdrive, Stock MM, Stock LL, etc.
Battery life is approximately the same for me on both MM and LL using Greenify on both. Doze doesn't seem to make a difference at all for me, when using greenify on both versions of Android. I get within 15 minutes of SOT on either one, so battery life is practically the same.
Finally, Lollipop still has all the features that Samsung so foolishly removed in MM! Namely, Smart Select is still amazing, it still has the engine for optical character recognition that is missing in MM, it still can select multiple things, and it can still open apps if it detects and address/phone number/etc!
So, basically, Emporia is the best ROM for me, and I have literally tried all of them. I do miss the full screen action memo's of Lollipop, but the extreme speed and fluidity throughout the system, never encountering a single bug, and the amazing features still present in Smart Select beat out all the insignificant improvements of MM.
Plus, I ported an AOSP theme for the notification area to Emporia ROM, that makes it a much more lovely experience.

My daily driver is the N5/N7_6.0.1_port V1 and I use Nova launcher, a dark icon pack, dark wallpaper and (Google-inspired) Material Design dark from the samsung theme store. Basically looks like clean, dark AOSP on top and has all the Samsung features underneath.
Everything from the font and theming is smaller and more refined in the Note 5 which makes a huge difference to me and really is a big reason why the Note 5's screen looks more nicer than the Note 4 screen imo (they're both 1440p!).
Everything is quite stable but the stock camera app doesnt work (for me, I dont know abt others) (I use a third party app) and I also use a third party app for video playback (I cant find the stock video app). Keep in mind this is a chinese n5 port and there is some chinese characters next to the time and date. Time to brush up on some chinese I guess. (I havent seen any other chinese on it thou lolz)
Its pretty good for a port though based on fluidness. And yes I tried the Emporia ROM recommended earlier. I loved it and everything WaterMan said was true but the Note 4 default theming and fonts are too big imo for a quad HD screen. Also that's where I got my inspiration to get the Material Design dark theme so my notification bar and settings look like stock aosp (Thanks WaterMan!).
I also use a snapdragon-optimized chromium browser so its more snappier.
And that's my daily driver, for now. Lolz
PS: be sure to upgrade to EPE3 (6.0.1) before flashing.

I've never used those features before Now I want them!
Here you go!
The red icons are purposely not coherent (egg).
For a minimalistic dark setup, simplistic dark black and/or grey icons maybe some sophistication but very minimal and clean.
I took pics of Material design dark and Material design black themes. (Disclaimar: black theme is $1)
Wallpaper from 244 Quad HD Wallpapers for Galaxy Note 4 collection on XDA.
Material design black
I'm using CM-Remix but it's giving me mad problems. Mainly, the Google app keeps crashing and it locks up when rebooting, sometimes requiring 2 or 3 reboots or wiping cache. It's godawful annoying but my hatred for TouchWiz is the only reason I torture myself with this ROM.
I'm looking for a new ROM myself. Looks like a new build of DirtyUnicorns is coming very soon. I may give that another shot.

Weird because I'm using it and I don't have any problems!!
I've been on AICP for several months, very stable. Resurrection Remix is getting close to being pretty stable, it crashes the phone when uninstalling apps - only problem I found that prevented me from dailying it.
Gonna try going back to TW for a while for better camera usage, will be flashing Overdrive 6.0.1 for the first time.

I have no clue what's going on with my phone as every ROM I tried is either lagging, freeze, or randomly reboot. I'm thinking about going back to stock. When I was on stock it would lag as well but not as bad as what I'm experiencing now. I'm currently using my phone without my microsd card to see if that is the culprit.

Theme Store vs Substratum for customization

Which one do you guys recomend for theming. I have been running substratum with Nova.
I like the theme store a lot. I'm running a nice dark theme with some purple in it. I've heard of substratum, but never actually used it.
I haven't used Nova on this, so far. I never thought I'd utter these words, but I'm liking touchwiz on the Note 8!

I prefer substratum and another launcher. Some of the theme store themes look pretty good but the themers are only allowed theme the samsung apps and you end up with the cohesiveness of your theme looking bad.

this was my issue when i used Nova, annoying seeing everything themed and then opening the edge panel and all the icons being totally different.
however the only thing that kept me off touchwiz was the notification bar not being able to be pulled down from anywhere, but now that's 'fixed' ive been using the theme store and overlays... only substratum theme im using is to get the clock centered. still lots more choice with Nova/other launchers but there are some hidden gems in the theme store, or you could even grab some xda themes if you wanna go through the hassle of getting them to stick.
also i dont think substratum has enough choice for Samsung users yet, maybe i am too used to substratum for stock android rom. so much customisation where as for us at the moment barely any in comparison, even less if you are not willing to pay for every theme.

I have 2 x Themes from theme store by Lucas Kendi.
"Blac UI" is a free theme.
His theme has i think the Pixel navbars.
If you install theme it also changes the Samsung
navbar.Also ringtones, notification sound. Etc
So ringtones etc, you have to change back to you preferred ones
His other theme (i have) Oxy black also changes the navbar.
Overall i use a mixture of Nova Prime /Samsung Themes and Klwp themes.
I found that as stated by others Substratum
themes are very limited and not worth installing on Note 8.
As i already have most paid Substratum Samsung Themes
i use them mostly on my spare Note 5.

Looked promising but it creates a theme at the end rather than an installable overlay like substratum. It's a nice tool to make a theme though
(Only problem is I then loose my Samsung theme icons etc) also have to go through the whole getting a 'Free trial' theme to stick
I'm happy with my setup at the moment anyway :good:
The only other issue I had with that app was not enough options to change I could only change a few bits, was hoping to fully black out apps but could only do headers and status bar etc
