Came here to find my picture from Reddit... wasn't disappointed!

Photojojo (where these lenses come from) have a big nexus 5 banner on their site. Coincidence? I think not. I may seriously consider getting one though. Seems like such a neat thing to include.

Lol. Wireless charging dock magnets.

The discs located in the back of the N5 have been confirmed to be metal to aid in the adhering of the phone to wireless chargers. The magnets are in the chargers to the best of my knowledge, not the back of the N5. The lens ring is magnetic thanks OP! It isn't very strong though so an add-on lens would have to be pretty lightweight I'd imagine

My first thought as well.

very cool. I thought the protrusion was a ploy to get people to buy the Nexus bumpers. Having that lens stick out scares me

I guess they might have some merit if you want some fisheye or macro effect? Perhaps LG is planning to release their own accessories, or they could have just done it out of the goodness of their own hearts. If this was indeed an intentional feature at all.

I have some lenses I will try them in a few

I asked someone and was told that the OIS uses magnets to move the lens around.

This is all making me very happy, this phone refuses to focus on anything vaguely close, so seeing what the macro lens can do is aaawesome.

So... umm... don't let my Nexus 5 get near my credit cards?
Would love to have a magnetic zoom and wide angle to snap on, so long as they don't further impede the already poor focusing ability.

Not me, some dude on G+, No idea what phone he used, but the lenses are: http://photojojo.com/store/awesomeness/cell-phone-lenses/new
1st photo was labelled the 'closest is would focus without' which seems about right. and the second it just, droolworthy. I'll have to buy these lenses.

Would these work with the Nexus?

Seems they are pretty funny and so cheap you can't go wrong - directly ordered the photojojo wide angle/macro combi for 10€ including shipping at amazon. 10€ - what can you say more - have a look on youtube - there are plenty vids about the addon lenses.
Greets...

In their 'tested with' section, it doesn't state Nexus 5 yet. They have the N4 listed and a whole load of other devices.

How much do you reckon a lense like that could set you back?
About $4000 new, I can get it for about $2500 from KEH used. The prices might drop soon with the new version coming out. But there is a huge weight difference. I played around with the new one during the ProPhoto expo here in NY.

If you want quality you would have to spend much more that 200-300 USD on a quality telephoto. Try at about $1500
handy tip for those with straps that dig into your neck, over this side of the pond, motorfactors like Halfrauds do seat belt pads that wrap around the belt to stop it slicing your neck (especially for short people), get one for your camera strap and it's much nicer

Htc hd2 front camera

Did anyone ever think about installing/making this possible? Like with a spare Evo front camera or something? Just a thought. I'm not even sure if it's possible. But if it was I would be interested.
LOL: it would be impossible since no hardware support for front cam, the sensor on top left is a photo sensor which is used for Brightness adjustment and proximity measurement
I have 2 phone's with front cam and i think i have used them twice.
When do you need a front cam ?
Do you video call with your girlfriend.
No. i do not use it, and i do not miss it on the HTC HD2
I know about the proximity sensor and stuff. And I do video chat. And couldn't someone make software to run it. It would be interesting. Maybe put it on the right side...
No need for the hostility either. Just a thought.
maybe someone will mod a USB laptop camera and gorilla glue it to the front?

I'm gonna install a Core i7 into mine - it's time for the upgradings
(upgrade spelled wrong intentionally)
I think it's impossible. Use mirror.
i do not miss a front camera at all
now that skype supports video call. Front camera on skype would be a dream for me on hd2
it would be nice, but most likely impossible
So where are you going to solder that camera to if you manage to drill the plastic part of the center frame? I don't see any room on the motherboard...
in fact there has a most simple (and cheapest ) way to get a "front cam function" with your HD2, all you need to do is to find a small vanity mirror like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or this:
then open it in 90° angle and put this mirror behind of your hd2, in front of camera. now you can launch your camera app and adjust the mirror to the best position to show your face in app.
Done!
it's so easy! isn't it? the only bug is your face is inverse in app (if you are graduated from school you should know why), but who care! video talk is just for fun for most people! so you want it, you get it!
PS: you still need use a app which support not just front cam but also main cam, to do this. it's the only limitation my dud.

The whole idea is for sale for manufacturing. If this happens I'm gonna get my hands on one of these.
Very good invention. But i rather buy something it had built in, no fall out and all way there when i need it.

Camera comparison: N4 vs. iPhone5 (large image file embedded)

My co-worker (iPhone5) and I (N4) each tried to take an identical photo of some bourbon I bought the other day. The side-by-side is below. Granted, this test is close to meaningless, because he might have been shaking during his photo, but I was still pleased to see how much better the N4 output is compared to the iPhone 5 for this particular photo.

Yeah, and the 23-year is like a symphony in your mouth! Too bad the Pappy brand is so hard to come across these days
This confirms what I have seen from these two cams. The iPhone uses a lot of algorithms to make photos "pop", much like setting an SLR to output vivid jpegs. N4 seems to be less agressive with exposure and post-processing.
I can only explain the iPhone image looking fuzzier as being due to camera movement (it does have a better lens).
Yeah, it seems like the camera on the N4 is not adding any effects, allowing you to adjust it in the app itself.
I can see why Apple wants to adjust it a bit though, they are targeting people who just want to take a picture and leave it as it is. Though it might be true of Android customers too, it doesn't seem like Google has that as a priority.

Wow. The iPhone picture looks bright and washed out. The n4 looks darker yet has more detail. Also, the iPhone picture looks like you'd be drinking something watered down and the n4 pic looks like some manly stuff I'd drink even though I don't drink.
I voided my warranty.
As someone who owns both phones. This is a one off situation. The iPhone 5 has a better camera.
yeah, my gf has the iphone5 and i will say it has better photos in about 90% of situations... either way, they are two of the best phone cameras on the market so im okay with either

Made one with illustration board. I tried using the magnifying glass lens I have laying around (I conveniently have 2) but it doesn't get the job done. Everything looks blurred until I move the phone 4 inch farther... so that's why it is required to have lens with 40-45mm focal length (regardless of diameter, I think)
I'll be making another one out of vinyl tiles while I'm looking for the proper lenses here in my area.

depends on the app. Do a search for Google Cardboard. Its still a very young market, so apps are limited. I have one app that's for watching videos, but the rest are pretty much demos of 3d experiences (google earth, roller coaster, street view). The apps split the screen into two and the headset allows each eye to get one view
But the first time people use it..... A long ....woooooowwwwww....

Hi, the magnetometer is near IR blaster, so I have to lock my phone in the glass as high as possible to make the magnet stick work
Thank you, it work, but very shaky. May be we can change magnet to more powerful (from hard drive, e.g.)? Or can use voice, or headeset button?
In my case, I use 2 ferrite magnets and hold the phone like I do above. I think you can modify the glass with a lower magnet slider
I tried a bigger neodymium magnet (20mm diameter, 5mm thick) and it didn't work.
Voice or headset button: depends on your apps

Moment Lens have their attachment case recently released that allows for all of their lenses to be attached. I really want to get the anamorphic lenses they have, yet I just got to save up for it as they are a premium investment. There's a few other competitors to Moment Lens you might want to check out as well. I hope that helps.

Moment is good. Nice thing is when new phones come out, they make a new case that is compatible with their lenses extending your investment.

You're going to have optical issues with add on lens.
Get closer to the subject etc and work with what you got.

I have a D810 , lens reversing rings and a PB-6 bellows..... I don't want to carry all that gear with me in my pocket....
I have the Note 20 Ultra, the Moment case, Moment Fisheye, Moment Wide, and Tele. I have about $30K in professional camera gear. Adding lenses on the phone can work and I will sometimes use mine, especially for phone video. I carry these additional items in a small case. But, these phone add-ons start to add up in cost and I think you are better off investing in a compact camera. I my case, I also have a couple of small Canon EOS M bodies. These compact cameras will fit into the same size case as the phone add-ons and will be a much better solution than the phone. So I think it comes down to how much you can spend and how much image quality to need.
You could start with the Moment case and macro lens and give it a try.
I've seen some nice results from Moment lenses, any experience with cheaper telephoto alternatives? This one seems interesting:
