Won't boot if dock is drained - Asus Transformer TF701

If the dock battery is completely drained then I've noticed two problems:
o a reboot of the tablet while docked causes a boot loop; the tablet reboots normally when not docked
o touch control on the tablet is very bad when the tablet is plugged into the drained dock
Neither of these problems occurs when the dock has non-zero battery or is plugged into the charger. I'm on firmware .47 and haven't unlocked. While I manually updated to .47, this occurred several boot cycles prior to first noticing this problem. I have factory reset since and have not logged back into Google to avoid complicating debugging. I have not yet called ASUS.
Does anyone else have this issue or is it a hardware problem with my tablet/dock?

I suspect this is due to the same problem many others have with the faulty port on the tablet. So many users have problems with that port - just look through the threads....I would return it for a full refund and wait a few months. Asus really screw** up this release!
I was one click short of ordering the TF701 - now I'm going to wait and see if they can fix the QC (or maybe even design!) issues...

[Q] Bootloop and general flakiness

Last week the clips on my samsung power charger had worn enough that he plug would slip out at the slightest movement. So I have a generic USB charger that I used and didn't look at the output on it. Since doing this my phone has been generally unstable and is acting like it's not reporting the battery charge correctly. I have wiped and tried other (originally maclaw cm11 and then maclaw carbon) and both are acting the same way. Sometimes it will just bootloop and sometimes it will get through and then once I open up a program it will crash and go into a loop. I have tried a battery calibration app.
The original charger is [email protected] and the one that I used (another phone charger is [email protected] Is my battery hosed or is there something software related?

[Q] Charging problem

Hello everyone.
I have a really big problem with my Xiaomi Mi3w (Cancro) and i haven’t find a solution in months.
I have an issue with the battery(?) or with the micro usb connector, sometimes i can’t charge my battery, no matter what or how, i can’t in any way.
When i connect the phone to the wall charger it doesnt charge or it even drains the battery, even if it’s off, it happened that some times when i connect the phone to the charger at 20+% battery after some hours it’s at 10%.
When the phone behaves like this and i try to connect it to the pc it can’t seem to hold the connection for more than 3-4 seconds, it continuosly connects and disconnects and it’s impossible even to open it in explorer. Obviously it’s impossible to charge even in this way.
At first i thought that it could only be a hardware problem (faulty connector/charger/cable etc)
but the last time i had this issue (today) i discovered that i can keep the connection between pc and the phone using fastboot. When i use fastboot the phone doesn’t disconnects continuosly so i can say that in 99% it’s not a connector/cable problem.
Could it be a kernel bug? I know that the kernel it’s active even when the phone is off but in charge, this could explain the charging problem even if it’s off.
Another thing that i discovered is that when the phone is on the connection to the pc gets more stable if i turn off debug mode ( can keep the usb connection on for more than 30 secs but i can’t seem to charge it anyway).
Things that i tried to solve the problem:
-Change the charger (1st charger is xiaomi’s orignal/ 2nd it’s a sony with output 5V/850 mah/ 3rd is a lg 4.8V/1A/ 4th is a generic tablet charger which came with my acer iconia with 5V/2A) none of these solved the problem.
-Change the cable (used 10 and more different cables, every cable was tested with my other devices and all were working well with my moto G and acer iconia)
-Fastboot install of both stable and developer rom
-Clean fastboot install of both roms (formatting both systems earlier with cwm)
-Install via cwm of ivan 4.4 aosp and cyano 12 (both of these uses the same leaked kernel right?)
-Cleaning connector with a neddle, soft cloth and some alcohol
I’m not sure about this other point but the phone seem to get in this not charging state when the battery gets below 30% and i keep it uncharged overnight.
So i thought that i could also be a problem related to the governor used by the phone when gets to a low battery profile and specifically when this governor tells the phone to get in deep sleep.
(this could perhaps explain the problem of both cyano and ivans roms random reboots and the workaround using partial_wake_lock)
I hope that someone can help me to solve this problem because my device is useless now
Thanks in advance to everyone
i have the same problem with my MI3W. Sometimes i can charge it while smartphone is power off.
I tried with another battery. I am waiting for a new usb connector flex to check too.
Do you find any solution?

I think i might be having the same problem. My phone started acting weird at the exact same condition. The charging connection kept going on and off. Felt like hardware issue at first. Charged my phone somehow to full charge and reset it. Looks good now but still skeptical.
Fingers crossed.

Hi i resolved the problem some time ago, cleaning the connector with a very tiny needle, i didn't go very far the first time that i cleaned it, probably it's only dirt, try cleaning it yourself and see if it resolves the problem
going fine

Droid Turbo turns off automatically

Hi guys,
My phone turns off automatically. It actually has happened 4 -5 times in 3 days. Let me explain; Once my phone was just on my table and I picked up but it was off and nothing was happening. I just plugged in my wall charger (Turbo Power), it turned on and the charging showed 53℅ so it came back to life. Today, my phone was on charge and it was almost 70℅ andI had to remove the charger but as soon as I removed it, screen turned off and then I had to put the wall charger again to make it alive.
What could be the issue? I am confused.
Thanks!
Attached is an image of my battery stats for reference. Thanks!
82% wifi battery drain? Do you still have this problem if you keep wifi off? I would perform a factory reset if I were you.

Yes, the issue is still there when I keep my WiFi off. Also, i noticed that my phone used to get charge from 5℅ to around 40℅ within 15 or 20 minutes. I did put my phone on charge few hours ago but in one hour it was only 53℅.
I use Turbo Power wall charger and I purchased this phone 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure if doing factory reset would work or not but first I want to make sure there is nothing else wrong with this.
Any thoughts?

If a factory reset doesn't fix it, my only other guess is that there is something wrong with the battery. If you purchased it new, it's very easy to get a warranty replacement through Motorola if you live in the USA, but I'm not sure how it would work outside of it.
I just posted in the "Weird Battery" thread. But you need to do a Battery Re-calibration by holding the power button to turn the phone and KEEP holding button until the phone re-boots itself. Ignore the "Power Off" dialog. Then plug in the stock turbo charger overnight. I had this problem a lot while using a wireless charger.

Thanks for the response and I will definitely try this. However, there is something I noticed: Today I plugged in my Turbo Charger and the phone started charging from 4%. After 45 minutes, it was 22%. I think that means it wasn't turbo charging and as soon as I plugged out the cable from my phone, it turned off and again I had to plug the cable in and it turned on and started charging. I then turned on my phone and the battery was at 22% (charging). After next 30 minutes it was at around 70% and then I tried to pull out the charging cable to see if it turns off again but it didn't.
I am not sure if it's right but I feel like when it doesn't get a turbo charge, it gets turned off when I remove the charging cable from it. But when it actually gets turbo charge, it doesn't turn off and act normally.
This is really confusing, isn't it?

The most likely problem is that your battery is failing due to age.
Although it appears to maintain a usable voltage, reflected in the battery % displayed, it can no longer provide the current needed to run the phone under high-load conditions. In those cases the voltage drops momentarily below the 0% level, triggering an immediate shutdown.
Try taking the back cover off the phone and seeing if the battery is significantly swollen or bloated. If so, it's time for a replacement. There are good video guides on YouTube detailing the process.
Your device is two years old, and all batteries wear out with enough charge/discharge cycles. If the phone is exposed to high temperatures (such as during turbo charging), the batteries will wear out faster.

Are you sure it can be a problem of battery? I purchased this phone in start of February and it's new. Also, if it's a battery problem then why does it happen just sometimes? Why not every time i plug in the charger? Also, my battery after full charge give me a handsome backup of 1 and a half day easily even after 81% use of a WiFi.

A weak battery is one possibility, but if you're getting a day and a half of usage from a full battery, then it's probably a different problem.
My next guess would be a bad charging cable or damaged USB port. Or possibly a poorly written app that's running in the background and causing memory problems somehow.
What Android version or ROM is on your phone, what background apps are running, and do you have any root programs or system modifications?

Thanks for the response. My Android version is 6.0.1 and in background I am not sure where to look at but the usual stuff I use are Facebook, Watsapp, MyCafe game (I have already tried uninstalling it to see if it's causing the problem). My device is not rooted and there are no modification. I am using this phone as I got it new. Thanks!
For few days it was working fine. Now, I was facing the same issue again so I tried to do a factory reset. Now when I tried to boot it up for the first time, I was setting up the Google Account, I didn't remember my password so I first changed it using my PC and then tried to sign in on my phone but now it's always saying "please sign in using one of the owners accounts for this device". I tried to google it but all of it ended up giving me a solution that I have to wait 72 hours because there has been some Google Security or something? I don't understand. Please help!
sounds to me like the battery is dying/dead. i would certainly open up an inquiry to motorola to see if they can get you a new battery. doesn't hurt to ask.

I had to encrypt the device and it's back to life now. But still, the issue is still there. The phone still shuts down automatically as soon as I take off the charger. It's weird that when I don't face this problem, I get day and a half battery backup which is totally normal to me. Do you think it still can be a bad battery problem?

Hi Sh-Obaid!
Although this is a pretty old post, but I have just faced the same problem with my droid turbo as you were facing exactly a year ago. I am pretty sure that you must have ditched the droid turbo by now, but still I am curious to know if you finally found out the actual problem or some solution. Please share your experience as it can help me to fix my paperweight (almost dyeing turbo).
It keeps turning off during boot-up or android running mode within a few minutes after the charger is removed. But, it can stay 'on' for several hours in recovery mode (due to which I doubt that battery is dyeing) and also shows Good Battery status in the boot-loader mode. I have done factory reset and even re-installation of the stock rom but neither worked for me.
Any input from you would be highly appreciated - Thanks!

Not charging

I got this phone 2 months ago brand new from ebay.
It had mostly working fine until today.
Battery was around 25%, so I plugged it in for charging. The charging connection kept disconnecting and reconnecting every second. I thought it could be a loose cable, but I checked everything. Eventually it connected, but the phone wasn't charging. I opened the settings and checked under battery, it said something like "connected, but not charging". I tried changing the charger, used 2 different charges but same result.
At this point it was clear the phone wasn't charging no matter what. I checked the USB port for dust, etc and also reset the phone. I also noticed the phone become very very laggy, not registering touch etc. Restarting the phone temporarily fixed lag and touch issues, but the problems came back quickly.
I also connected it to PC, but nothing happened.
Finally the battery has drained, and the phone has been plugged in for a few hours now, but still no charge. It's dead.
What could be the issue? Any suggestions? Seems like a hardware failure?
It's a 2 month old phone and I could be out $300+.
First time I bought a Xiaomi phone, this is a very scary and disappointing experience. I didn't drop the phone, no damage. As I said the phone was 100% fine before.
i just experiencing this issue exactly a week ago, at that point my battery were 7% down to 5% while trying "the fail" and when i plug the charge it says "plugged in, can't charge right now" but after 3 hours or so charging in while the phone was on, it bounce back to 7% and still displaying that message.
after trying to charge while the phone was off for more than 12 hours with no results, i gave up and place silica gel around the charging port for approx. 3 hours or so. and then i do this step.
i don't know what the pin point of the causing factor is and i don't know what step is unnecessary but this is what i do. i place silica gel around the port incase the port detecting moisture and preventing charge from happening, after 3 hour i try charging again using 18w quick charge brick while the phone is fastboot and turning it on. just like that the battery was charging.
after my battery were full i update the software to pie incase this is because of the software update (just like pixel 2 did), give this tutorial video a try*https://youtu.be/F9XNIbpC1yA some ppl able to do it in the first try, some 3x, some 6x, me? i finally achieve that on my 11x. just give it a shot and patience, no need root, ubl, etc etc
the fail. i tried using my friend charger (we have same phone) didn't work. tried using computer usb didn't work. tried using that quick charger brick without that silica gel part, didn't work. tried charging when the phone is off (i waited more than 12+hours) still didn't work.
based on that my conclusion were either there is moisture in the port and the sensor detect it and prevent the battery from charging up or the V9.6.17.0.ODIMIFE november update causing this problem.
again, this is what i do
-place/cover the charging port with silica gel
-wait approx. 3hour or more
-put the phone in fastboot mode
-charge the phone with 18w fast charger while in fastboot mode
-try to turn on the phone
the only post about this issue other than this was some guy in moto x4 thread on reddit, i don't know why there is so little info about this issue.

Seems like a hardware failure? idk, i'm still able to transfer data and listen to music through the dongle while this problem happening, so i assume it was software thing

spoiler alert, that guy got his replacement phone while we (i assume you too) didn't even have access to official xiaomi service center ?
oh god, i just had it again, second time 10days later after the first one, on the latest pie update.
i'm legit scared ?, pray for my phones ?
but thanks god, the "plug in the charger while the phone on fastboot mode and turning it on"
still works, just like last time. even without the 18w fast charger.
I have the same problem. Battery drain could be the fingerpint sensor issue. The thing is the battery got really depleted and now, it seems the charger program/circuitry is consuming more power than it can charge. I tried several chargers, several usb-c cables, but nothing. Some hours ago the notification light blinked for some seconds and then it appeared as if it was indeed charging, it even showed the charging battery image ( the one without %, the one that appears when you have a really low battery charge ). But it has been hours trying and it doesn't do that anymore and there seems to be no way of making it charge and boot.
This is an appalling situation.
Similar problem, I purchase a Xiaomi Mi A2 by ebay, and passing 30 days (warranty expired) phone dead and never came to turn on, just flashing a white led, but nothing else, somebody has experimenting this problem and steps to revive the phone:crying:
same ****, guys.
I've tried several cables, couple of hard resets and etc. But now I have a pretty brick
I don't know if related but I had similar behavior after I dropped my a2 in the WC, after drying and figuring what prevented it to power on I discovered the USB plug at it's logic board internal connector as the parts preventing it to turn on, some cleaning an drying and my phone comeback.
Then today I observed it didn't charge, and the body warmed, It showed 50% charge, I rebooted and then it didn't turn on again, since I was doing some workout I figured the usb again got wet, I opened cleaned , dried assembly again and then it turned on w/o issue, but then the battery was showing 90% charge not 50% as before rebooting.
Maybe this your situation guys, it you think your phone somehow got wet, and you have no way to claim warranty (or too far from service center) try cleaning and drying the internal USB port connections. (Doit at your own risk).

I just had the same issue. The phone just randomly cant charge anymore and when I plugged it the battery charge indicator just keep going on and off but without charging. I tried to reset the phone in factory mode but no result, I tried with differents cables but no result. When the phone was plugged it was very very laggy but as soon as I unplugged it everything was coming back to normal.
Now I have run out of battery and my hopes to get my phone back to life are pretty low considering what I read on this topic. If anyone has a solution please tell us!
I would add that I always took care of my Xiaomi Mi A2 (no fall, no water spilled on it, no overheating) and everything was going well until a few hours ago. I didn't installed any new app since like a week ago (from the PlayStore) and I updated to 8.1 maybe a month ago. I thought waiting so long for Android Pie was annoying but this is way worse. If the situation doesn't evolve I will never buy a Xiaomi phone again. Very disappointed
Mi A2 stopped charging
After 2 month of use and Android pie update this stupid device refuses charging. I'm so very disappointed. I can't believe i fell to this Chinese trap. This is the last time I'm purchasing a Xiaomi phone! "Android One phone".... Yeah right!

In my case, after 4 months of use, just after Android pie update, I have stumbled on my MI A2 lite showing problems with USB connection and charging. The phone is not able to stablish a stable connection to the charger or the computer, it just keeps connecting and reconecting, begin charging and stopping charging.... If I leave the phone charging all night, it seems to finally fully charge. I can't figure how this problem may be related to Android Pie update, so I think it is just coincidence, and the usb connector is faulty, though I don't know the cause.... I think I will try to have it replaced
so did you fix the problem OP? i just started expiriencing what i think is the same problem.

if you go to the battery setting and it's says "plugged in, can't charge right now" then you should try plug in the charger while the phone on fastboot mode and turning it on

i don't know what the pin point of the causing factor is and i don't know what step is unnecessary but this is what i do. i place silica gel around the port incase the port detecting moisture and preventing charge from happening, after 3 hour i try charging again using 18w quick charge brick while the phone is fastboot and turning it on. just like that the battery was charging.
after my battery were full i update the software to pie incase this is because of the software update (just like pixel 2 did), give this tutorial video a try*https://youtu.be/F9XNIbpC1yA some ppl able to do it in the first try, some 3x, some 6x, me? i finally achieve that on my 11x. just give it a shot and patience, no need root, ubl, etc etc
the fail. i tried using my friend charger (we have same phone) didn't work. tried using computer usb didn't work. tried using that quick charger brick without that silica gel part, didn't work. tried charging when the phone is off (i waited more than 12+hours) still didn't work.
based on that my conclusion were either there is moisture in the port and the sensor detect it and prevent the battery from charging up or the V9.6.17.0.ODIMIFE november update causing this problem.
again, this is what i do
-place/cover the charging port with silica gel
-wait approx. 3hour or more
-put the phone in fastboot mode
-charge the phone with 18w fast charger while in fastboot mode
-try to turn on the phone
the only post about this issue other than this was some guy in moto x4 thread on reddit, i don't know why there is so little info about this issue.

Seems like a hardware failure? idk, i'm still able to transfer data and listen to music through the dongle while this problem happening, so i assume it was software thing
same...
please post an update so there's more information available regarding this problem and good luck

Hello,
I have something similar, I'm in Switzerland and running the Pie Rom from Nederland. I don't think it's link to Pie, maybe from a security patch because it didn't come at the same time for me, but this is what I got:
-When I plug my phone to a fast charger, I get "charging for a few second, then not charging"
-If I plug my fast charger and reboot the phone, the phone will charge (I need to double check but I guess slowly)
-I have a Audio-Adapter (USB-C, 3.5mm, USB Type C), so if plug the charger to this Adapter, and them plug the phone, the phone is charging fine (slowly).
So to me it looks like an issue with the fast charging...

No I was not able to fix it. I am talking with my credit card coverage and see what they can do.
I got a different phone in the meantime.
I also got rid of all my other Xiaomi products, never going to give this company a cent in the future. They are cheap for a reason !! Limited support and shady parts used in their devices. They can't be using quality internal components with such cheap prices.
Their mibox also randomly die.
Quantity over quality seems to be their mantra
Guys, it happened to me too,
I've flashed from android one Pie rom, to pixel experience.
Pixel Experience is great rom, was working brilliant for couple of days.
Then it stopped to charge. Now phone has discharged to 0% and I can't do anything.
My assumption is that getting new battery in exchange might help me fix the issue.
I've read that once you move to Pixel Experience Pie version form Android One 9.0 you need to flash kernel to. I did not do that.
Now waiting for the battery to arrive and will see what I can do with it.

Charging Issues

I've had my RP2 since July 2019 and it has been phenomenal. However, just within the last 2 weeks I ran into an issue with charging. Normally I charge using wireless charging and I started experiencing an issue where the phone constantly cycles through acknowledging wireless charge to not wireless charging. If I allow it to go through this cycle a couple times when I pull the phone off the dock it shows the battery icon as if it is still charging. When I first recognized this issue was occurring I tried plugging it in via wired(USB-C) and charging. The phone acted like it was charging but when I came back a few hours later I believe it had only increased maybe 1-2%.
Since the issue occurred I have tried powering off my phone and trying the wireless charge function with the phone powered off. I get a similar experience where it seems like the phone acknowledges wireless charging is trying to be done but it cycles between the battery charging icon and then blank screen, short buzz, and then the initial Powered by Android screen and then back to battery meter.
The only way I have found to successfully charge the phone at this point is to power off the phone, plug in wired charging(via USB-C). The phone will charge fine powered off or if I power the phone back on as long as i leave the charging cable plugged in when i power it on, it will continue to charge until i remove the cable. Once I try to plug the charging cable back in after the phone is powered on and booted it will no longer charge.
I've submitted a case to Razer Support but I'm almost 2 weeks in and have yet to hear any response back yet except, "Have you fixed your problem yet? If so let us know we'll close out your ticket" Obviously not very helpful.
Considering the wired charging behavior when the phone is up and running, it leads me to believe that this might be a software issue and not a hardware issue. However, since I have powered off my phone and attempted to wireless charge that way too and it still does not work makes me think it could possibly be a hardware issue?
Two other things to note:
1. I have seen a notification pop up that says something to the affect of "USB Controlled by Connected Device" even when nothing is connected to the phone.
2. Since the issue has arose I tried utilizing my USB-C dongle to 3.5mm headphone jack and it appears my phone no longer acknowledges when it is plugged in. Previously it worked like a charm and I could play music without issue. Now the music just plays out of the phone speakers like no dongle is connected.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Update: They did RMA my phone. I sent it in on a two day FedEx prepaid shipping. They received it 6/26 and by 6/30 were shipping it back to me. Arrived on my doorstep on 7/3 and it appears to be working now. I didnt receive any details on what they fixed but wireless charging and wired charging are back in good standing. They did return it with Android 8.1.0 so I had to do some updating from there.
It took a little to get everything completed(over a month from start of tech support case to finish of repaired Razer 2) but in all the experience was good with their support.
