The deal of the year !!! - Asus Transformer TF701

Hello guys,
I really do not want to spam the forum , but I see myself obliged to talk about the biggest deal of this year ... It is between Samsung and Asus !!!
As many of you, I want to buy a tablet , a good one ... and to be honest, the best ones available on the market now are the TF701T and the new Note 10.1... If you do not agree , that's ok , you should respect my choice !!
Anyway, if you look around in the forums of these two tablets here on XDA, you will find nothing but problems (lags, bloatware, bad build quality ....) and that's very very annoying for a tablet with such a price !!!!
Yeah they have both good stuff inside their stomach, but it's not enough !!!
It's like if Asus and Samsung are cooprating now.... releasing high end products with problems since the begining.
Please be objective !!!

Uh..
You got so excited, you forgot to ask the question..

It's not perfect for everybody, but no device is it... the TF701 for me is nearly perfect No major issue the last weeks, only battery is draining a bit too fast as of my expectations...

Great , thnks for the small review . Do you have a dock ? if yes, everything is good?? and from where did you get it ? thanks in advance

People who are satisfied will not complain.. So on this forum you will always find more people complaining than happy people. Nevertheless are the negative things just something that let you make a good decision for your new device.
I'm a linux user and my mission is too get linux working on this devices. Still I'm impressed by the usability of a keyboard and touchpad on android. I see the device more as a laptop than tablet (or maybe better.. it is both).. but for a laptop, is has an incredible battery time!
And the screen and its resolution is just awesome!

mine has a loose bezel and thats about it. no dock yet

Was that the best you can come up with? Like really?
If you were in the TF700 threads last year you would have seen we ALL had problems and I most certainly voiced them. For me, Asus finally got it right with the tablet. Although, there's some issues with the dock. I don't own a dock, so no problems for me.
Lastly, I agree with the poster above. A site like this is seeked out by several types of people, such as the tech savy and tweakers. But mostly, it's folks that have a complaint, or need info. Does it bother you that someone is having success with their device?

The emoticon shows i'm just kidding .... and no it doesnt bother me at all , i would be very happy if there are units without problems. I even havent buy one yet. Im more interested in the asus' but you know ... reading all these negative reviews ... come on , put yourself in my shoe!!

Indeed, I'm a happy user too. Nothing wrong with my device. Got an azerty keyboard dock with no isues at all.

I was waiting for the tf701 but when i was traveling in the US i could only find the Samsung and since neigther will be available in my country anytime soon i bought the Samsung.
My previous tablet was the tf300 and i wax happy with it until it was stolen.
One thing that i can say for sure is that Samsung did huge improvements and the difference that was so clear for me in the past between the tf300 and the first generation of the note is almost gone.
So far I'm happy with the Samsung and despite what others said my device is flying, I'm playing dead trigger 2 from the sd external card with 0 lag at all. Of course that turning off some pre installed apps and function helps a lot.
I'm sure the either choice will be a good choice.

You'll find negative comments on all device threads. That's why they are here. You'll rarely see happy consumers on these forums. You get more of a sense of how happy people are with their device on Amazon. As flawed as the TF700T was last year, the majority of consumers still loved their device. Go figure.. Lol.

Good gift?

Hi folks,
I'm planning to pick this phone for a family member and I was wondering if this phone is still worth getting? I've been reading that there are perhaps some problems with the phone such as reboots, overheating, freezing, etc. Would you say that these are hardware problems or is it a software-level issue?
Also, can you put Launcher Pro on this thing and over-ride LG's UI?
If you think that I should hold off until LG gets their manufacturing lines in order and quality control in place, what other dual-core phone would you recommend that has HDMI?
-Cheers.

Personally i only got one freeze in a week of use, but tbh i wouldn't recommend this smartphone to anyone.
LG has still too much to learn to be competitive with his android smartphones.
Actually this device has a great potential but it's used only in half of it's power imho

Actually there is SGS II, seems better to me, but of course it costs more
why would you NOT reccomend this phone to any1 kite ?
i mean sure, it can be some hassle if your unit has reboots and such, but as far as im concerned, this is the best price to quality(hardware) ratio right now. yea might have to return it if its defective or such, but i dont think its hardware.
personally i WOULD reccomend this phone, but probably not to the casual user, more like to some1 who knows what a ROM is and what does it mean to flash. if some1 likes a simple working phone just get an htc maybe.. heck, even an iphone
i can recommend it for sure, just flash a stable MCR Rom and you´re happy
i didn´t have any reboot or SOD with Modaco FR18b2 yet ...
HDMI out is a great feature
overall speed of this phone is very fine, no need to overclock for daily use, just for benchmarks ... ;-)
i think this phone has a great potential for moderate price
you can run any launcher you want, i also use launcher pro ...

O2x will be a great gift. Best bang for the buck dual core. Just avoid samsung phones. Been through a lot of them and the build quality and support sucks.

if you bought me this phone, i'd totally love you
oh yeah, IF you buy this phone.,. just install LauncherPro/ADW Launcher..
that gives it just a little more stability/speed, the LG Launcher is really slow.
Thanks for the input guys. I'm likely to get this phone as a gift if and only if I see the GB-update out first.
Buy it ! Recommend it ! Your family wont disappointed

1st Day 1st Impession

Nice device but the drop down menu is nasty and the stock keyboard leaves something to be desired The stock launcher is also driving me nuts (no landscape). Rooting the thing was also a nightmare but I suspect 2 of my 3 my PCs were the culprit. I finally rooted and tested the N7 against my Tf101 Transformer and a little disappointed that FF7 plays identical on the new Tegra3. Perhaps FPse isn't taking advantage of the new cores. Meh.
I bought the tablet last night on a whim. I walked into staples and they had a bunch. Overall the build quality is great. Feels like a stout little tablet. I'm just not sold on the Phablet mode. I already have a GalaxyNexus and it kinda just feels like a large version of that.
I definitely am going to try tablet mode and a new keyboard (thumb keyboard was my choice on the 10"). I also recommend just unlocking ASAP just so you don't lose everything if you decide to root in the future.
Overall the device is a good buy for the $$ but just a heads up for new owners with prior tablet experience that it feels a little off from other tablets IMO. This doesn't have to be a bad thing.
I was pretty impressed with the battery even for through the night. I picked it up at 5pm and was pretty much constantly on it testing and rooting and testing until 3am. I gave it a good charge over night so well see how today goes.
Now if the awesome devs here can somehow get HDMI out working, I'd be set.

WOW, rooting was hard?
If that was really the case, you really shouldn't bother. Some people shouldn't have root.
Sent from my Nexus 7
Easy, guys. OP said his PCs were the reasons for the rooting nightmare. Probably ADB drivers or something.
And OP is just telling the community a few observations. I hardly think this is a complaint thread.
Drivers exactly... plus Windows 8. And for the record rooting has never been the problem... just driver issues. Plus if you look at my signature, you'd tell I've been around.
Anyway that said, the thread was just posting my initial thoughts and woes for new owners. Windows 8 is the future and its driver protection crap is horrible. If you guys actually found the steps for installing the drivers on windows 8, you'd know it wasn't an easy process. You basically have to reboot the Pc in a special mode that disables this security feature and really hack around with it. The Galaxy Nexus drivers went in without s hitch so it boils down to infancy drivers that aren't signed properly.
It IS an issue, just not for you guys apparently.
Overall once the drivers were locked in, yea ADB commands are cake... or use the 1 click app that's available.
Anyway, after replacing the stock keyboard to my fav Thumbs Keyboard and some heavy gaming, I got over 9 hours with almost 6 screen on time. The 7" form factor fits in my cargo pocket of my shorts and very easy to tote. Very nice tablet.
Missing HDMI out. And the screens whites have a red tint compared to my Transformer. Both, hopefully can be resolved by some custom kernels.
Thanks for the unneeded ball busting comments

Don't Initial thoughts typically happen within the first day... right? Isn't that the topic of this thread? Initial Impressions...
I currently own a Nook Tablet, Asus Transformer, Samsung Galaxy 7, Galaxy Nexus, and a Nexus 7. I think I am more then experienced in Android devices to make educated comparisons between units. Nothing is really negative anyway. Battery life is stellar, even for the first day. I got over 6 hours while gaming. I'm liking the N7... alot.
This thread is about me sharing my experience with others. I don't understand why everyone is negative Nancy in here.

My first three days with the device I didn't think it was a big deal, what's the fuss all about. But I haven't put it down since. I just love to pick it up and use it.
At first I thought it was just basically a big Galaxy Nexus (it really is) but that extra screen space sure is nice. Anyway dude, give it some time and if your anything like me you will get a lot of use out of it.
Really?! It's like everyone's getting upset because you basically said the N7 isn't 100% perfect. I just ordered a Nexus 7 a few hours ago, so I appreciate the post. I'll be the first to NOT bust your balls ( leave that to the old lady right? )
I'm glad you mentioned the sorta phone UI...every time I look at the home screen I cringe, and I was wondering what was up with it. I didn't really plan on running the stock launcher much, but I had no idea it was portrait only ( wtf? ) now I KNOW I'll never use it. Thanks for thoughts.

Hi
How will you rate oneplus3 at ? 1-10
Do mention the reasons ..
I m using oneplus1 and confused if I should buy it or not?
I have it since Saturday. I'd recommend it to anyone who's in the market for a new phone for whatever reason they might have. For me, it offers the best overall package in the Android world right now. If you don't mind ugly OEM skins (I do), you could probably go with the S7 line or if you don't mind spending more cash, then the HTC10.

never settle. I've got it. yeah. once I got I download the oxygen rom from forum immediately.. cool !!!
I always planned on get op3,but as my contract was up I got a HTC 10, very nice phone but didn't strike me as much of an upgrade on my two year old xeperia Z2. Got my op3 yesterday and is given me more of a buzz than the HTC, which is on ebay.
Personally I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, the only thing missing for me is SD support, and with Google breaking that in mm, I don't really see that as an issue anymore.
A solid 9/10 from me.
Absolutely. For the money, it's a great feeling, solid phone that really flows. If you want to spend a lot, the yea, buy a Samsung or an HTC. For near stock strong contender with excellent customisation ability, get OP3 - 9/10 (not perfect because of the memory issue and no SD slot)

I agree... but the RAM should be optimized further in future Oxygen builds? In my experience, the SD card has created issues when it becomes corrupt... and it won't be as fast as reading from internal memory (good rebuttal from OP). It would be easy to say they should have offered a 128GB model but I know they wanted to keep costs down as much as possible. I've found with the previous OP devices that 64GB is just enough for my requirements
One issue I have is it was great they made all the Kernel sources available... but not the Dash Charge?? wtf lol
Mine is still in the mail so I can't officially recommend it but based on all the reviews I've read so far it's very promising :highfive:

Proximity ambient display prob. and camera performance
How u guys are finding the proximity display hand waving waving feature in your OP3 ..in my case im finding not so smooth...means I have to wave my hand very closely to the device screen to lit it... is it the same with u guys or just waving hand over frm a distance is doing the thng for u..kindly reply and also give solutions on how can I improve on the same.
Camera performace I guess is pretty gud in OP3 ..ya focusing closer objects is an issue...(it takes some time) but i guess thts just a software glitch...which can be corrected via updates....rest the phone till now hasnt disappointed
without a doubt id recommend this thing to anyone. its even got dev support before most people have it in hand. thats about on par with the nexus phones.

Maybe a 7/10. The hardware is great for $400, but the stock software has weird bugs, like camera photos coming out green unless I use raw, and I've heard the customer service is a nightmare if you have to deal with them. At least the developer support is booming so far. CM and PA save the day again.

The camera is simply amazing, screen is great, size is perfect, feels great in the hand!!! And I'm comparing it with the 6p and HTC 10 both of which were/are my daily drivers! Agreed. I see what you did there.
If it turns out to be true and even if they they just push it to those who oped in for soak test and whatnot and not a full out release in the next few weeks i am happy with Lenovo and this phone. I love what Lenovo did with the phone. I said updates will make or break it and i was scared about that when they said they could not commit to the security patches. But were getting those patches and have a word on the update so far so good. Hope they keep it up. This is the best phone out all around.
I'll still believe it when I see it. Moto has really been sucking badly on updates the last few years.

I agree 100% the funny part is I decided I needed a non samsung device as soon as I saw that lil wayne commercial that had him dumping champagne on the phone. I told coworkers that wanted the Note 7 prior to the release to get this phone instead because Samsung spent far too much for lil wayne for proper research and development, they all made fun of me...until the note started exploding.

Off topic but the issue is simple with the Note 7. I checked this my self. But its not cheap for them and the "Fixed" ones were not fixed and there was no way for them to fix it.
Simple version. The IC samsung chosen to handle the monitoring of the voltage for the battery was the cheapest they could find. That being said they can be way off in terms of calibration. The note 7 i had charged my battery to 4.9v. Phone would read 4.405v but a fluke on the batt reads 4.921v. And that is dangerous. So for all i know they could be charging to 5+ volts and no wounder they are bursting into flames. Issue has nothing to do with the battery and changing it wont do a thing. Its an issue with the ic on the board. And the IC has been used in other things that handle li-ion and li-po related charging and also caused problems on them.
Back on topic.
So we get 7.0 before the end of the year. Im guessing November. So far so good on the updates. But im wondering if they are going 7.0 or just going to jump to 7.1. Chances are no 7.1 that fast but so far the updates have been good. And the moto mod updates have been amazing. I would like to see 7.0 by Nov. 17th. But we prob wont see the roll out start until the end of Nov.

Just finished installing the Nougat update on my phone. After updating I tested it out in a Daydream VR and it works!
I wish someone would post the update files
Uuuurgh I wish there was a way to force it. I've been obsessively checking for software updates all day :|

Yes yes yes yes yes. Got rid of my Gear VR and S7 Edge for a PSVR and have been waiting for a good headset for my Z Droid. So it works with the remote and what not?

Yup, works exactly like it does on the Pixel. It runs the Daydream app, supports the VR keyboard, etc.

Not that I'm aware of. I've done plenty of soak tests for previous Moto devices and I got invites for soak tests for the camera and projector (which I don't have either), but I never got one for the phone. The update just popped up for me last night.
So far the only Nougat issues I'm having is the fact that my Ambient Moto Display no longer works. Slightly annoying, but it could be worse.

Great that means it's a general release!
Do a hard reset, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after a major update for optimal performance and user experience.
Strike my last statement. I just got it working. I need up just clearing the data for the Moto app and set it up again. Moto Display seems to work perfectly fine now.

Am I the only one .... END OF REMIX????? A MESSAGE FROM JIDE

Bought 3 Minis within a couple of months ... added monitors, keyboards etc, and gifted 2 of them away. Then, yesterday I discovered
jide.com
and since I am not into the 'root thing' .. wonder what CAN be done with all the MINIs out there. If they can somehow survive by rooting then I anm all for it.. Hope this forum will guide some dummies like me ... install another OS??? OR? OR?. I hope somehow they can live on ... beyond JIDE and that I will be aware of it..
time to say good bye, time to buy new box ,nividia shield still the best LOL

1000% AGREE Nvidia Shield is way better than Jide and Remix- and I own a Remix MIni that I love (or used to love...)
