Help, I need somebody! (Serious problems restoring original firmware) - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I'm really sorry to bother everyone but I just spent 10 hours straight trying to get my HTC One back to its original state.
I'm really frustrated as I have tried 15 different tutorials and have about 1 million tabs open right now.
- I tried the whole re-locking thing and tried flashing a RUU (tried so many different ones but always some signature error. And with exe's I should get the right utility because it's the wrong bootloader). I don't even know what's the right one. Here's the getvar version-main I get: 1.29.401.12
- I somehow wiped everything and can't even get my phone as an external flash drive.
- I read I should have S Off whatever that is, but for that I needed to re-flash a rom. I can't even get that to work anymore. I tried to sideload it. It worked...but there's nothing on the phone except an ever turning cyanogenmod wheel.
- I took a pic of my bootloader screen, maybe you guys can decipher what there's to be done.

Any help is SO appreciated! x/
Please go easy on me and speak english...not code lol
I know my way around googling the hell out of things but this is obviously my limit^^

Okay, your hboot is 1.44 (April 2013), so you should be able to achieve S-Off using revone.
can you please post a "fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and serialno), and confirm your bootloader is unlocked

sure, here you go:

Sorry for having to rewind a little, but can you let me know your goal?
1- hboot -> OK
2- getvar -> OK
3- you can achieve S-Off using revone with a Sense 5 / Android 4.1.2 based ROM
I need to go now, and may not be back till Saturday, in the meantime, if you need to get you phone up & running just use: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_1-29-401-13-zip/ (unselect "stock recovery" during installer) or any other custom ROM out there.
If you think I've helped, hit the thanks button,
and please explain where you want to end up.

my goal, as stated in my initial post and title, is to get my original phone back (firmware and stuff). i had cm on it, now there's nothing on it except a "useless" fastboot and recovery. i just wish to get my original phone back so i can re-sell it.

i just downloaded that zip and now i have absolutely no clue what to do...

Ah I think I know what your problem is ... 1.29.401.12 doesnt have a full RUU file anywhere ... can u tell me the filename you tried running (RUU exe?) ..
So what you need is ...
1. TWRP/CWM Recovery installed and working
2. TWRP/CWM Backup ROM file for 1.29.401.12
I could only google and find CWM backup for your ROM so you need to flash CWM recovery first (I assume you know how)
Download your ROM backup from here -> http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/m7-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-htc__102-1-29-401-12-2013-05-16-zip/
adb push this to your sdcard and use restore option from CWM... also best if you wipe data/factory reset first since you had CM on it

No need to relock

i don't know how adb push works. i tried following a tutorial but it says to mount sdcard which i don't have. i only have system, data and cache.
i then re-locked, then tried to flash via fastboot oem reboot and flash zip.
that didn't work because of "signature verify fail".
i'd love to try adb push, if you could be so nice to tell me how i'd have to proceed.

It would be easier if you download a Custom ROM and then in CWM choose Install -> Sideload
And then from PC , adb sideload yourfile.zip
This should load the Custom ROM ... it will be easier to transfer and manage the nandroid backup files once the OS is loaded

yes i tried that but it does not work. and i don't get why.
1. i sideloaded a cm stable file.
2. the file had been renamed sideload.zip
3. i started the install and it said successful.
4. when i boot the phone, the cm wheel turns and turns infinitely.
5. i tried a different rom (infection), it said succesful install, i re-booted but that darned cm wheel was still there turning and turning thinking "you like that huh?"

If you have nothing to save on sdcard , this is what I would do ...
1. Wipe System
2. Wipe Cache
3. Wipe Data
4. Wipe INternal Storage
And CWM Sideload should start the flashing immediately after transferring the zip file unless u r doing it some wrong way

Here's another way ..
Download this -> http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_1-29-401-13-zip/
Sideload it and follow on screen steps

to save us some time. would you be open for a quick chat session with screen sharing?
we could resolve this in 5 minutes like that.
tell me what you think, thanks!

nevermind! it seriously finally worked.
- i had some issues on the way with guru reset but it finally worked.
i couldn't sideload it it said something about too many emulators...
i sideloaded it via a toolkit and it worked. guru reset gave me another version number than the getvar thought. strange isn't it?
anyways...thanks a lot for helping me out!

4.3 update messed up my phone

I have rooted HTC one google edition. I received a new official updated that I installed through twrp, after installation it told me that root access was lost and i could restore it by pressing restore root access option. Since then i cant get past the Google screen. My phone basically gets to Google screen then restarts, gets to Google screen and restarts. I tried factory reset, did not help. What should i do?
If you have a Google Edition rooted phone, it shouldnt have installed the OTA with a custom recovery installed. You'll likely have to use the RUU in the original dev thread. you'll want to backup your sdcard via adb cause the RUU will wipe everything.

Just use this, its either pre-rooted or unrooted, follow the instructions but being on a GE One you should already be all set to flash it.

You can't install an OTA through a custom recovery my friend. RUU is your best option right now.

How am i supposed to use RUU if my computer wont recognize my phone in fastboot?
The RUU won't help anyway. It's not signed therefore will only install on s-off phone.

what does device manager say?
if it says something like QHUSB_Download mode, you're screwed, get it swapped out
if you can get to the bootloader, you can probably install a recovery again and install a stock 4.2.2 or 4.3 rom and get back up and running.

I can get to bootloader and i can also get to twrp. But the thing is i cant download anything to my phone because i cant access it through my computer, i hear the sound when i plug it in but i dont see the device in "My Computer"
Learned the hard way.
Your phone is not recognized, because you haven't updated your ADB and Fastboot files on your computer. Once, you do that.. You will need to download hboot 1.44 that gunnyman has in the 4.3 thread via RUU. After that is done find yourself, the RUU from whatever provider your phone is running under.. Ex: Dev or Tmo or ATT etc etc.. That should fix you up. I did this to my device once messing around with it.. But my problem also was with a locked boot loader that had 4 exclamation triangles on each corner.. No boot screen for start up even came up.. Just back to the boot loader of doom.

then all is not lost. you're having either a driver issue or trying to use a usb 3 port or something like that.
boot to recovery
type adb devices
if it gives a number you can sideload a ROM.
download this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390346
it's stock rooted 4.3
sideload it in twrp
start the sideload mode in twrp
type adb sideload then the name of the rom. the rom will push to the phone and then install.

He obviously has some sort of thing going. It clearly states in his OP, FYI. That he "was" rooted "before" the update. Umm & if he can get into boot loader & TWRP Recovery... He still has a chance.

[Q] HTC One Dual Sim I messed up after unlocked

I have HTC One dual sim 802w, China version. I was trying to root it to get the latest version of software as I had only 4.1.2 version. I came successfully till unlock and I was able to see SuperSU as well and I was able to see administrative rights checked. At that point, I wanted to backup my phone before I go for upgrade so I installed ClockworkMod ROM Manager, free version. After restarting it came to a non-normal screen (please find attached) but I was surprised to see that when I unlocked the screen I could only see white screen with HTC logo (also attached). After about 2 min it restarts and this process goes on and on and on. When I went for Factory Reset, it just remain on the screen where it says entering recovery but it stays there and does nothing. I have to put off the phone to get away from it. Even if I power off the phone, it restarts by itself but happens sometime only.
I have tried all possible ways I found on this site for last two days or so but I still could not fix the problem. Now I am wondering if I can recover my phone!. Appreciate if anyone could help me with possible solutions to solve this problem.

Hi rodfrang, I really appreciate for giving your time to post the link for me. After following the link, I am able to go to ClockworkMod Recovery menu page which wasn't possible before. From there I used "Install zip from sdcard" and then choose zip from external sdcard. First I chose SuperSU-root-V1.25.zip and then gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip which was downloaded from the given link and as given in the guide. But when I reboot my phone, it has the same problem.
I really look silly that I have done these to my phone without having good knowledge in rooting. Hope you will help me further to revive my phone.

Looks like that's the end of my phone...sooooo sad! it is still the same and I have done the guide "China Unicom 802W Dual Sim" and your advice several times. Though I don't get any error message for most of part of the process but when I did "wipe dalvik cache" I get the below line "E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]" however on next line it gives "Dalvik Cache wiped".
By the way, I have S-ON and the cwm version is 6.0.3.2.
I am losing my hope for this phone now. Anyway, looking forward for your further help.
Many thanks and regards.

Hi there, still I can't make it to work. When I restore from OTA.rar, after about 3-5 minutes, it gives the msg
"android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure
Restoring cache
Restore complete"
I did wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache several times.
and when I reboot the system it says
"Root access is missing. Root device?"
and I clicked "Yes - Root device (/system/xbin/su)"
However, now I get a different screens. Please note, I can't go inside the phone after the second snapshots which is blank and it keeps on restarting. Please find attached snapshots of screens.
Is there anyway to go back to my previous working state, I mean new phone state? Or can I download 4.2.2 and flashed the phone with it? Or can you suggest any other ways to make it useable at least?
Do you think I can bring back this phone to workable state?
Thanks and regards

Hi there, no luck still, it is same, just that it changes the language to Russian I think.
In relation to the message "android_secure.img not found. Skipping restore of /sdcard/.android.secure", someone has suggest to "install your previous ROM, then you can restore the Backup" (answer to another user's question). Do you think I have to do that. If so could you guide me where I can download my previous ROM or ROM version that I have to download?
Do you think I can restore this phone? My last resort would be to send it to China for repair, what is your suggestion?
Thanks and regards.

Hi style_arun. I had to send it to service center. They have fixed it for me and when I asked what had happened to my phone, they said something has gone wrong in booting.

[Q] Blue screen after attempting 4.4 update

I don't know what I did, but I now get a blue screen that I can't get out of after getting the 4.4 OTA update. I rooted and installed a GPE 4.3 RUU previously with CWM and when 4.4 came along, I just didn't be careful. I cannot even get to the bootloader to do anything. Help! What do I do? Everything I try just puts me back at the blue screen.

Exact same issue, at first i couldn't get to bootloader, but after a couple attempts, you should be able to get to it... I literally did the exact same thing as you did, was it because you HTC wasn't google play edition? I flashed a custom rom for Google play 4.3 and did the O.T.A update, blue screen with pixels kind of floating around. Keep me updated
OK, I got back into bootloader (I'm an idiot and was holding down the wrong button). Just reinstalled the 4.3 file and everything was good from there.

Yeah???? I'm lost
If you have access to your bootloader, just go into recovery. From there you can install the old rom.

Lost my old rom, pretty much hooped i think
grab the RUU here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358781
get to fastboot mode
then enter RUU mode with fastboot oem rebootRUU
then flash the RUU with fastboot flash zip RUUname.zip
do that command twice.
then reboot and you'll have a good clean GPE 4.4 install.

it's the fastest, best and most reliable way.
You have no one to blame for this but yourself. it's your fault your phone is screwed up and your fault you don't have a backup.
After running that RUU if you don't screw with anything and don't load a custom recovery you will be able to get future OTA updates.
I've done the OTA so far on 3 One's that I had previously converted using the 4.3 conversion RUU. none of them failed catastrophically. I had to uninstall Xposed; and mine had a custom build.prop but those were minor hiccups that were easily fixed. I'll be doing the OTA on a 4th one later today so I guess we'll see if my luck holds up..

I have back up, i got the blue screen then i went to recovery and got every thing back. The link you posted tells me how to update but they also tell me that all the mobiles memory will be erased, is there any way i can update with out erasing the memory?
no. running the RUU will wipe /data. it's unavoidable.
if you can't boot normally you'll need to pull your stuff off via ADB and save to your PC. then after running the RUU you can copy files back. I would NOT recommend restoring data from a nandroid since it doesn't sound like you had a successful conversion to 4.4 with the OTA so you'd be restoring old 4.3 data structures.

thank you
one more question, if i run the RUU and i get the 4.4 update will i get the blue screen when updating to a newer version?
why even did the blue screen in the first place? i have the build number: JWR66V.H10 and i know that it is the original GE.
you seem to be misunderstanding. the RUU is the 4.4 update. There might be slight ota updates but until 4.5 comes out there won't be another major update you'd install.
you flashed an ota update from a custom recovery Don't do that!
that should be JWR66Y.h10! you missed an update in between. not sure how the update ran at all with the wrong build. your recovery must not have been enforcing requirements.

folloowing the below should get u back up and running
Vomers guide covers most things you require (change s-off,recovery, cid ect, ect)
1) install latest twrp following vomers guide
2) went into RUU (followed Vomer's guide from SECTION 3)
3)went here (htc1guru.com) downloaded the exe VERSION, with phone plugged in and in ruu mode ran the exe installer, - installed the rom - easy - push a few keys, set phone up then
4) downloaded HTC_One_-MaximusHD_30.0.0 and installed that through recovery( or any rom you like)
now im back up and running
Hope this helps - I was almost going back to the shop - with a bricked phone lol - now im happy
hit the thanks button if ive helped
Im not very active in these parts of the forum, so if you struggle pm me or post back here for help

you'll need to post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (dont post your imei/sn) so we can tell you how to update. The version shown in your picture isn't necessarily the same version you'll find in bootloader.
And may I add - it would be better if you took a picture of bootloader screen. That way we could have better idea of phone's state. Is the bootloader unlocked, real firmware version, s-on or s-off...
Hi guys, today i managed to get the needed info. Please see the attached pictures. PS; why is the CID 1111111? Does that mean that the phone has been rooted? And s-off?
Thank you guys in advance.

Your phone was messed with. Great thing it's s-off. Someone flashed a new h-boot over old firmware, that's why you can't receive updates.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726
Take a look at this thread, download 7.19.401.1 RUU.zip, and flash it, you have all instructions on the thread. That will update your phone to Lollipop

Do i need to flash the combined or the full stock? I think full stock because i cant understand how a zip of 40MB can flash a new firmware, or im wrong?
So sorry for this noob questions, im used to Samsung where i just need to flash 1 file:silly::silly:

Full stock will give you a fully stock Android, but it will wipe everything from your phone, so you might want to back up your files before doing anything. I always flash full stock, just to be on the safe side. And there's no need to apologize, better to ask if you'rr not sure than ruin your phone, right? [emoji6]

Yeah you are right, normally i don't ask so many questions. I just flash the phone ans see what it will bring me to.
But this is not my phone, it's my brothers in law phone.
Last question, i hope, i read that after flashing full stock zip i need to flash rom, kernel and recovery and that phone wont boot up after the flash. It needs a rom flash.
So what should i do? I'm a bit confused, there is so much information and so many files..

You need to do it via HTC fastboot
donkeykong1 said:
You need to flash it in RUU mode. Issue the next command "fastboot oem rebootRUU" without quotation marks obviously. That will put your phone in RUU mode ( black screen with silver HTC logo ). Then fastboot flash zip

Then you definetly need to flash via HTC fastboot. I don't have it, so maybe @alray could help
@donkeykong1
I dont know how but i managed to update the phone.
I downloaded the fastboot of htc site and installed htc sync. Then i pluged the phone in with and without development modus on to instal drivers.
After this i pluged the phone back on in fastboot mode and flashed the zip of 1.6GB. It started right away and installed the android 5.0.2.
Working good till now, so thank you for your help.:sly:
