/dev/loop0 only exists on the HTC Tattoo. /dev/loop1, loop2, etc won't work.

I am trying to install Ubuntu on nFinityROM, i have partitioned my sdcard in fat32 and about 500 MB EXT3. Now the program asks me about the full path to the EXT3 partition.
What should i write??

Sorry if I am being pessimistic, what good use it would be if you install linux on phone (like a tattoo).
I understand it would "probably" makes sense, to use on some high end ones
Wouldn't it be a good idea to have dual boot to another ROM than to linux

Have you seen it on Touch Diamond? It has the same screen size and a 528 Mhz CPU.
It is just cool!

Hello everyone.
Now I know this question has been posted before but I didn't get enough help from that so...
Let me explain what I've done...
I appreciate all of the work that the Devs have done, however, I would
love to help them.
I decided to try and build my own ROM. Unfortunately, I'm getting stuck and
am not sure how to proceed.
That is why I am here. I was hoping the wise devs here on XDA could help me
along this path I'm taking.
Here's my goal.
Build a 2.1 rom from source. No modifications at first.
Run this on an Emulator to see how it runs.
Then run it on my phone.
Here are the steps I've taken:
- Installed Ubuntu
- Installed jdk1.5

-Add these lines

-Compile the ROM

Now I browsed through the out directory after the Make was complete
and found some .img files:
ramdisk.img
system.img
userdata.img
userdata-qemu.img
I don't have anything for a Kernel and am confused as to how to
take these files and make a .zip that I can flash through CWM
Any direction from here would be greatly appreciated.
i.e.
How to make this run on an emulator.
How to turn this in to a .zip to flash through CWM
Also some tips on modifying the ROM would be nice

i always assumed it was some sort of magic or wizardry.....but all that **** you just said sounds pretty important, too.

Installing WebTopMOD your awm dock will be populated with 3 new icons: leafpad, lxterminal and a penguin.
Leafpad and lxterminal works inside WebTop but clicking on the penguin you get a Debian menu chrooted http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroot in a Debian enviroment. In xterm you can use synaptic and apt-get to install anything in this new enviroment.
For example I need gimp:

For example LibreOffice is not yet in stable branch, so you can install OpenOffice or switch repo to testing or unstable
Firefox is renamed Iceweasel and the latest version in unstable is 3.5 and from experimental 4.0.
REMEMBER THAT 0.x VERSION MEAN THAT THIS SOFTWARE CAN BE BUGGED AND I CONSIDER IT IN ALPHA TESTING

I used an ATT Atrix with 1.8.3 firmware.
However this guide should be applicable to any atrix (att, bell, ecc) with any firmware...

Can i use ubuntu as the debian system on the pc to do the image, secondly how do i make a 4 or even 6 gb image, thirdly is this similar to the chroot modes?

Sure! I assumed that on 1.8.3 terminal is not available...

ye thats true, i copied it over from an old /osh dump and it seems to work fine, if you want/need it i can send it to you (only the lxterminal or the whole /osh dump) just started the procedures to get it on.

those commands returned the error:
dd: opening '/data/6GB/swap': No such file or directory
hmm in your first post the one for dding a 2gb file is different as these two.

You beat me to it!! I just ordered a Atrix and it's enroute to me over here in Japan... I was thinking I would try to build Gentoo on the webtop somehow.
I have experience there doing the whole bootstrapping thing, but then it hit me-- "How will I compile the programs?" since everything gets made from source and not from RPMs or DEBs in that distro.
Now I am totally chomping at the bit for my Atrix to get here; I am going to experiment using it as my ONLY computer at work, and out and about. I tend to use cloud-based apps even when creating content (I'm a teacher/photographer/web developer) and I feel uneasy about taking my loaded-to-the-gills Macbook on crowded Tokyo trains with me everyday.
Now with your find, I can still manage to do some light graphics work at times in GIMP too maybe?

I've not tried gimp, but it should works, we have 1gB of ram!

I was thinking how great gentoo would be too. kholk said once he manages to get kexec and a custom kernel to work he will start work for on gentoo to replace the webtop, that ought to be awesome than

Cannot wait to give this a shot! I just need to order a blue tooth mouse and keyboard.

ya thought so to just change to debian, btw why do you say if in ubuntu you use the squeeze tag and if just debian you use the stable tag when doing the debootstrap?

I'm not sure that stable tag works with ubuntu..

I've put together aroma installer for installing Google Apps to NATIVESD Jelly bean ROM's.
Theoretically it should work for all rom's, but I haven't tested it yet

I think I found the issue at least for PAC rom. I was caused by slightly different way of mounting partitions. I'm uploading new zip right now, first post should be updated in few minutes.
Please let me know if it's working for you now.

If new version is still not working for you, please post initrd.gz from your NATIVESD folder.

I tried the gapps-jb-20121011_NativeSD_v1.zip
for 2 ROMs:
[Dec. 9, 2012][ROM][720p] NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a [NativeSD]
and
[16JAN2013][ROM][JB][4.1.2]C.A.M.P.S_HD2_v1.3[CM10/AOKP/MIUI/PA/SONY][WIP][NATIVESD]
Unsuccessfull in both cases, I got the following error message:
Applying to SD-EXT
Mounting EXT PArtition
file_getprop: failed to stat "/tmp/nfo.prop": No such file or directory
(Attached are the initrd.files)

Well it seems that just about every ROM has a bit different method of setting ROM name. It's going to be very hard to create automatic script.
In the meantime you can do the following.
1. download zip file
2. create new file called mount_NativeSD.sh anywhere with following contents

3. Replace red text with desired ROM name (eg. JellyBelly, PA_LEO, PAC, etc...)
4. replace mount_NativeSD.sh file inside the zip with the file you just created (name should be mount_NativeSD.sh)

hi, I tried with JellyTime R32 but it doesn't work, I tried replacing the rom name with JellyTime and JellyTime_R32 but I got file_getprop: failed to stat "/tmp/nfo.prop": No such file or directory . Here is my init file..

Ethernet support on XSP?

I need some help here, I want to add Ethernet driver to my XSP, but I don't know what to do
Currently my XSP ROM is AICP (still on old version, Lollipop), with Helium kernel
I already built the asix.ko module, using this guide, and DooMLoRD' Android Toolchain
When I tried to "insmod asix.ko" on my XSP terminal, it returns error

1. Download the android prebuilt toolchains, kernel sourcecode, asix sourcecode
2. Modify the makefile from ASIX sourcecode
3. Make from it
4. Flash to my XSP along with the helium kernel
5. Error.
Is there anything wrong? :crying:
