Screen recording. Volume up plus power at the same time - Nexus 5 General

I've never seen this anywhere, but apparently holding volume up and power at the same time initiates a screen recording mode. Why haven't I seen this mentioned.

It's been posted up before and even in a bunch of online articles. You need the SCR screen recording app in order for it to work though from what I've seen.

Oh. Just never saw it anywhere and have owned about 25 android devices in 4 years. Strange.

the only thing i can find is to do it through adb. can anyone recommend an app from the play store?

Actually, it's volume down and power button at same time to take a screenshot. That's how it works on my N5.

No app needed. Like I just replied, volume down and power button at the same time.

This isn't screenshot. This is screen recording. Not sure if its psx rom only thing or if its across all of kit kat ROMs.

It's a new feature that Google snuck into 4.4. It's been fairly well publicized at this point.

This isn't working for me, but if I hold those 2 buttons for a while, my phone turns off.
I wonder if that's the key combo to use if my phone freezes

Not sure if its built into psx ROM only, haven't tried on other ROMs. Happened on accident.

Pretty sure its just a psx feature - on my N4 on Rastakat it did nothing, but now that I've flashes PSX on the 4 it works fine. That certainly snuck under the radar from the PSX devs

On most (all?) devices without a removable battery, holding power forces the device to reboot, seeing as you can't simply do a battery pull

Ahhh, thanks. My previous phone had a removable battery and my tablet has a reset button. I was planning to ask about this in the Q&A forum.

So Google place a feature in 4.4 that requires root to work? That's a load of old toss innit.

Does the Jig work on phones with power button issues

i recently tried flashing a kernel and now the phone is stuck in a bootloop
now usually 3 button recovery would do the trick BUT
> i guess i've lost 3 button combo since they don't work anymore
so i decided i'd make a jig with the 300k ohm resistor
however, most of the how-tos say "Don't touch any button!" so i was wondering if the jig would work on my phone (since it behaves like the power is always pressed i.e. the phone boots as soon as you put the battery)
(and i have neither the skill or the balls to try the unbrickable mod)
QUESTION/ DOUBT : does the jig work on phones with power button issues
Phone: AT&T captivate
ROM : cm10 JB 4.1
Have u tried getting to download mode with the volume buttons? That method doesn't use the power button.

yes i have ... ...
... unless i'm missing something, isn't it press them for like 5 seconds and then let go of volume up ...
Pull the battery then put the jig in first then put the battery back in

[Q] new to the gflex, loving it few ?

Well i finally picked up a d950. So far ive rooted and updated to 4.4.2. Ive done some searching for other roms, mods, or kernels for it and not sure what im actually able do with this phone. Any recommendations on roms or anything for it? Thanks a lot
There... Kind of isn't any at the moment. Not really. I'm hoping now that Bump is out and works with the Flex and that we have a working recovery again for the latest update things will start to pick up.

Try wiping finger across the proximity sensor and tap again. If that does bot work press firmly across of flex near proximity sensor and if that works it means the sensor is sliding back in the housing is what was happening to my flex 950

One Handed mode?

Haven't seen the minimized one handed mode used in videos yet, anyone know if it's still there on the Note 5? Also, does the triple click on the home button activate the one handed mode like on the Edge+
The one handed mode is still there. I tried double click and it activated the Camera. I will research a bit more.

It needs to be activated in the settings before the triple click will work. Its under settings>display.
Is there a way to resize (enlarge) one handed mode window?

I've got the white battery...

My tp was left uncharged for about a week and now I've got the dreaded white battery. I've tried everything. I cant get my tp to boot into download mode. It stays like that til it does, I plug it and try every button combo trying to boot back and just get white battery. Any feedback welcome. I'll pay $25 in amazon credit for something if someone wants to personally fix it. It's not worth it but I love my little touchpad.

This should fix it unless you can get to the USB symbol. Try power+home+volume up for 30 seconds.

Note 9 - S Pen Click without touching the screen

I use my Note 9 for ScummVM and Point and Click Adventure Games.
I used to have a Note 2 and it would only register a Click when the S Pen touched the Screen (with an optional right click on the S Pen Button) and i loved that.
The Note 9 registers clicks from the S Pen long before it ever touches the screen and thats really annoying for those games.
Can that somehow be changed?

Wait a min.. it's registering a click without you touching the screen.... hmmm
First try turning off Air view in SPen settings
If not then try turning sensitivity down...
Or check to see how the button click is set to do.
Basically check the settings ...

I turned off just about everything i could get my hands on in the s-pen settings.
It still registers about 2 or 3cm before i touch the screen.
EDIT: I checked. Air view is off. Like i said, everything is off.
Okay then I am leaning towards the pen itself... First try changing tips. You should have some extra. If not then just take the tip out & reseat it. Make sure you don't push it back in too much.
If this doesn't work then look into getting another Spen.

Long story short the pen maybe stuck. Maybe from pushing too hard on it as you use it. Or as you replaced the tip.
