[Q] Amazon App store Crashing - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good Evening All
I am after a bit of help/advice
Ok, I have a Kindle fire HD 7inch
I have [11/15] BETA CM10.2 + 3.0.50+ KERNEL installed and gapps-jb-20130813-signed installed
I have no issues using any of the google apps all happy with that.
The issue i have is that when i download Amazon app store it downloads ok, it installs ok
But when i go to run the App it crashes every time no matter what
I have installed via email, downloaded from amazon, sideloaded, copied from computer to tablet via ES file explore
installed from drop box, all instales looked like they installed ok.
i have tried deleting the cache still no joy, i have deleted the KFHD from amazon still no joy
i can log into my amazon account via the WWWeb so my account works
I was wondering if i had missed somthing out or have not installed somthing i should have
thank you in advance
Paul

Having the same issue. Tried redownloading and that didn't help. Ended up browsing for an older version and that did work. Just don't update it when prompted or back to force close you go.
Seems to work fine on my S4,just not on Cm 10.2 for some reason.

Try downloading it from Amazon while on your tablet http://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/get/android If it does not work then I can upload the official Amazon APK I am using which is not the super new one. I have a habit about waiting to see how an updated app gets reviewed before updating and using Titanium to back up first just in case the update messes the app up.

Hi

tried that one also, logged into my account via internet on KFHD downloaded the app from the link installed ok
but still did not work crashed as soon as opened/started.

This seems to be an issue for everyone across the board using cyanogenmod. Do any devs know what's going on here? I currently can no longer get any version of the Amazon store back on mine, new or old. I took the version 7 update when I was prompted and it, of course, doesn't work. Well, I didn't have a backup of version 5 anywhere so I grabbed an apk of 5, tried to install that back, and it force closes as well. Sucks bad considering a few of the games I have installed require the Amazon store to run even if you've linked them to Google Play.

I wiped the old data and updated to the new Amazon App and it FC. Flashed my nandroid with the previous version and no issues. This is not the first time the Amazon APK has gone haywire. I don't think it has anything to do with CM.

I downloaded the new Amazon APK and it does FC. Flashed a nandrod and have the last version and it works just fine. So I would remove the new Amazon APK and use SD maid or Titanium to wipe any old data too. Then you can try installing last version Amazon APK I uploaded to my drop box. This should fix the force closing issue. Make sure to reboot after installing if needed and uncheck Amazon apk in your sandbox if it's lit up so it can access your info.

You will see in the screen shot provided today's Amazon free app of the day.

Good Morning All
I have managed to sort it.
i had made a back before flashing using titanium and it looks like it kept the backup folder on the SD card
so i reinstaled titanium after flash and restored my amazon account rebooted and is now installed, i also
took off a couple of folders of apps that are no longer installed no program managed to show me these
anyway thank you for your help
regards
Paul

So if I am reading this correctly, you went back to an older version via restoring your backup?

Hi
RedsonRising
I originally had free kindle installed and made a backup with titanium when i put on CM10.2
it seems that nothing at all was wiped on the card so when i installed titanium again
it showed the backup so i installed from the titanium back and that seemed to fix it
i installed the program plus data files
regards
Paul

Well, I've now tried everything to get the Store back. I've cleared data, ran SD Maid, sifted through the root directories looking for anything related to a previous install that might be causing conflict, converted to a system app..nothing is working. I get a force close on version 5 and 7 both. I've even upgraded the tablet to CM 11 and still getting the fc. Help!

That's how Titanium works. As long as you don't wipe the data from your File Explorer (or write over it if you only allow one backup) it will be there for ever. That's how those of us that jump ROM's keep our info.

Yea, if you have Titanium, just restore the app data to that app any you're back to the previous version in two seconds.

So that solves the problem short term (I installed an older version), but it doesn't solve the issue of not being able to run the latest version. Granted it may not offer any improvements we can't live without, but down the line it could cause issues.

Amazon AppStore and Amazon KindleApp now work
I am on an Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7" running CM 11 from Hashcode's latest release on xda app-developers two weeks ago. The Amazon Kindle App would force close. I tried every combination of data and cache clearing with shutdown and restart then reloading the Amazon AppStore and Kindle App.
I had success after using LinearEquation's older version of the Amazon AppStore, with a simple side load. Prior to the load I cleared the data and cache and then removed the Amazon AppStore and Amazon Kindle App. After installing the older version of the Amazon AppStore from LinearEquation and the current version of the Amazon Kindle App from Google Play Store... Success! both work.
To confirm it was the new version of the AppStore causing the problem and not the Kindle App, I then updated the Amazon AppStore and the AppStore forced close again; however the Kindle App remained working.
Thanks for making the download available! Returned my Kindle to an Amazon reader without the annoying Amazon OS.

[Q] New Android Market (2.2.6)

Hi,
I have seen that some people have posted the latest version of the Android Market (2.2.6) as an apk file.
My questions are:
- If it will this work on DHD and correctly overwrite the old Market app and the market update utility ?
- Is installing the app this way legal ?
So anyway I did install it and it works fine.
A much needed upgrade.
I believe you can use this new market .apk file without problems, but I've read that a new official update is cooming soon, so if you doubtful if it's illegal, just wait.
It is working well here. If anyone wants it
Taken from here
Go to Settings>Applications>Mange Applications>Market>Clear Data... then install.
For some reasson I can't update it =(...
Wiped old market installed fine

Uhhh for me it seems to be the other way around :S! The new one loads almost instantly, the old one took a few more seconds.
cud my longer start-up time be related to the fact that i downloaded the apk file from here and installed the update manually ?
Thanks for the post.
Runs perfectly on my DHD. Better than the old version actually. A very welcome market update.

accidentally uninstalled the market

Hi guys,
I have a rooted nook color, and I accidentally uninstalled the android market using Titanium. I was trying to install Adobe Flash, but I was getting a message that Flash is not compatible with my device, so I read in a forum to uninstall the market and downgrade the market app to the previous version.
Well, after uninstalling it, and downloading the apk for the older market version, it force closes when I go to open it. Does anyone have a link to a market apk that will work?
Sorry, I'm new to this

check around for the google apps zip file. there are a few floating around. i will see if I can find one and post a link. but, once u have the zip file, put it on your sd card and boot to recovery, then install the zip file via recovery.

Hi, I'm new here, so please have mercy. This exact same thing happened to me. I went to the site below and since I flashed MN 4-5-18 and 4-6-16, I though I should download, at the site linked to above, the CyanogenMod 4 google apps. Is this correct?

I think you'll always want the CyanogenMod 7 gapps. I believe the CM version #s correspond to the Android version... Honeycomb is CM8, ICS will be CM9, etc.

[Q] How do I install apps not supported from the Play Store?

Hello everyone,
I recently rooted my KF HD 8.9 and installed the Play Store. All is well and most of the apps I want installed without an issue.
However there's one app that I swear by that isn't "supported on this device". Chrome.
I ended up sideloading an APK I grabbed from the web but that's neither ideal and it's not a current version.
My question is:
Is there a way to bypass the "not supported" message via an app like Market Enabler?
OR
Is there another (I'd imagine legal) way to obtain the current APK from an alternate website?
Not sure if this will help you but I'll share my method. What I do is just download whatever app I need to my SGS1 and back it up with Titanium Backup. Then, I mount it to my PC and pull the .apk out of the TitaniumBackup folder and side load it. I did this with Nova Launcher and HD Widgets and so far everything is working wonderfully.

Working [amazon appstore apk] [amzon mp3 apk] [amazon kindle apk]

Edit 1/19/14: Hashcode has released a new build that has apparently fixed the issue with the amazon apks.
His newest build (as of today) is here for KFHD7 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/cm11//cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip
And here for KFHD 8.9 2012 http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/jem/cm11/cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-jem.zip
I encourage all to try this build (or the newest one) first. I'll still leave these apks here just in case for the mean time.
As posted by KyleMac_ for rooted devices
editing the build.prop is working, too. At least with the amazon kindle apk (that's what I've tried).
go to
/system/build.prop
rename
ro.product.manufacturer=amazon

You can back them up with Titanium Backup, uninstall the apps and then restore them with Titanium Backup. That works on crashing apps but not all apps in the app store are compatible with the Kindle series.

I can't install the Kindle apk from this thread on hashcode's CM11 ROM on my KFHD7. I've tried clicking it to install, but this always ends in the install failing with "App not installed." I also tried copying it to /system/app (and setting proper permissions), but the app still fc's immediately upon starting.

You don't need to make this a system app. Try removing completely and re-downloading it to the download portion of the internal SD card. Then open it. It should work just fine unless something from CM is preventing the app from working properly.

I can confirm editing the line ro.product.manufacturer in the build.prop works. Just change after the = to whatever you want. I used "Amzn". Tested on KFHD7. As has been stated, always make a backup of your build.prop before changing anything.

Once you put a custom ROM on your tablet, the "kindle Edition" apps will not work anymore. The short answer is you have to find a non Kindle edition app.

The newest CM drop from Hashcode has change the prop build to make it an Android. If the newest build is used then the newest APK's can be used and the ones I uploaded are no longer necessary. I updated the OP when the new CM 11 was dropped and opted to leave the old APK's up only for those that may experience some random issue. As far as the downloads, they work fine. Not sure what to say about that.

[Q] Prime on rooted KF HD

Hi,
I bought the first version of the Kindle Fire HD (7"). I like to root it for using Google Play Store on it.
I have red, that it is possible to root the KF and to use all the prime features (videos and e-books) without any restriction.
Is this still right? Which custom ROMs support the prime features, too? (Kinology?)
Thank you!

Kinology should work as it's based on the Kindle rom, but i am not 100% sure as i never tried kinology. However Cm11 rom works for books games and music but not prime video. I just watch prime videos on my laptop. Cm11 has the android 4.4.4 and overall i think it's really good.

CM11 is no option for me at the moment, because I bought the tablet to use prime instant video and have access to the free prime ebooks (with the normal kindle app, you do not have access to them).

Yes you can do a factory reset. This will unroot your device and get rid of all the media (apps, music etc) and settings will turn back to normal.
However doing this you WON'T renew your warranty. But the benefits are clearing cache!
To reset your device got to : Settings - Device - Reset to Factory Defaults Then there should be a pop up and it will ask if you are sure.
If you want reset click "YES".
