No,
They are development threads made by xda users and are not based on Sony FW
He is asking for a prototype FW from sony, its an initial release of FW for journalistic and testing purposes. It is never released publicily, but there have been leaks in the past (Notably the first Sony JB release was leaked)
I do believe it only works on what are known as "Brown" Devices. i.e not for public sale

Yes but they have signature checks on those firmwares to look for the first few characters of the IEMI for the brown devices

Still, original android development roms are not protytype firmware
They are not even firmware (FTF files) but flashable, rooted and heavily modified .zips and nothing to do with official/unofficial releases from Sony

Why Sony is so damn restricted..

Every company has FW they don't release
You will find Sony is actually the most dev friendly OEM there is. That is why they have been voted XDA OEM of the year for the past 3 (Or maybe 4) years.
They are the only company that actively works with devs on xda

With Z1, for example, Unlocking Bootloader, maybe we get new Firmwares. You said XDA actively works with Sony and Vice-Versa, so we still in a middle of nowhere or what? If this is true what you said a solution should be on the way.

True, but that is a user problem, the stock releases have no problem. Its only a problem if you want to "mess" with the phone (Like we all do) then we do so with the caveat that we are messing with a stable system and we may make it unstable in some ways.
That's the fun and the joy in the journey
PS, unlocking the boot does not give you new firmwares. FW are official releases from sony. Custom roms are made by non sony developers and are not official

I agree 100% but Sony do not own Android, even if it is a part of a stable product we messing around with Android and we testing they product. They should be grateful for that. They also learning from us so why don't give the right support to the customers.

We are not testing their product, they do it themselves, they are aware that there is a lot of android users that choose android in order to have more control but a lot of software on the phone is their intellectual property and they have every right to protect it.

Rooting this device? Is there any work around

Hi
Like me, many of us are waiting for the pre order to come on 28th or soon after. Would love to root as soon as it is unboxed.
Is there any work around for rooting this device?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Guys in Development section already got kernel sources - so it might come faster than we think - but surely not as soon as it is unboxed. You'll probaly have to wait at least few days.

Yeah I have noticed the release of kernel by Sony.
Happy to wait for rooting to come.
Thanks.

Rooting is easy if any devs got a device already they could make one in less than 10minutes. Even they could make one now given the stock ROMs available now in dev section. What we really need to have now is how to relock the bootloader.

So since this phone is due for release is it a known fact that the bootloader is unlocked & also what would be achieved or the benefits of relocking the bootloader. Can't imagine why to relock coz despite best efforts by top developers over a year, my current phone's bootloader is totally hack proof (not impossible but improbable)

It's features.
With relock bootloader you could do OTA, Bravia Engine, download music info and stuffs. Plus maybe get your warranty back.
I can't imagine seeing lots of people buy the Xperia Z then unlock it then weeks after sony announces 1st batch of the devices have some major bug and you can't return it back because you void your warranty because you unlocked your bootloader.

Oh ok, worst case people could just use the old microwave trick for getting replacement under warranty!
Sorry no idea whats the connection of microwave and warranty

There was a "trick" where people fried their radios ( wifi, BT etc ) with a microwave to claim warranty - since those are on mb itself, service usually replaces the whole board. In theory there is no way to tell that your radios were damaged on purpose by a microwave - this way some tried to claim warranty saying their radios "just stopped working". Some claim it worked, others it didn't - i myself believe it to be utter gar.... if you put your phone into microwave, you're gonna have a bad time

Hmm I think that ain't gonna work since if you ever fried a radio sony can still check if whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked. Better fry the whole device instead
Well I just mentioned what I read & yeah I think it's for less than 10 secs @ lowest wattage But hmm yeah I didn't know that it is yet possible to check if BL was unlocked.
PS : Dont try this as home

Rooting on locked bootloader is difficult... One needs to hunt for exploit which can happen in 5 mins or can take months...
Relocking bootloader is easy... Just flash a ftf containing correct TA code...

Uhm yeah correct with that one but I was talking about rooting on unlocked bootloaders
rooting it while it's locked is an exploit or security flaw so yeah it's hard to do.
Regarding relocking bootloader no idea how to do since my last sony device was unlocked using testpoint and there's no way of relocking it yet at that time.
What I'm interested in at this point is anything with the drm keys. I want that to stay even when the device is unlocked. Do you know by chance where is it stored anyways? Is it on one of the partitions inside the phone or is there a seperate chipset where it is isolately stored? Or is it something like a firmware embedded to a chipset?

[Q] xperia T jelly bean update using flash tool [HELP]

Hey guys,
I'm extremely sorry for opening this thread.! Please forgive me. I posted my question in another thread but didn't get a reply. I am from India and I want to buy Xperia T (which hasn't officially launched in India) from eBay. I was worried about the official jelly bean update for the phone. As tge phone hasn't launched in India the eBay people are providing imported phones. I found a tutorial to manually update the phone here: http://android.sc/update-the-sony-x...o-official-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware/
This is a flash tool method to flash the official 4.1.2 update only for Xperia T LT30p. I just want to know whether this method is COMPLETELY RISK FREE and there is NOT EVEN A SLIGHTEST CHANCE TO BROCK THE DEVICE BOUGHT FROM ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD???? I want to know this as the Sony service centre in India won't even look at the phone if there is any problem! Please asure me of this flash tool method by taking a look at it and also,
can you please refer to this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136173 and tell me what can cause this type of problems? The person who started this thread who has posted 'something' about Xperia T and he is from India! And he bought his phone from Germany! I tried searching the net for 'Xperia T India' but I couldn't find a thing. So I just want to be sure about the flash tool method mentioned in the above link. Has anyone done that before?

Then how do you suggest I update the phone safely and securely to the official jelly bean update? Or could you please give me a link to a thread where the question has been answered or to a safe tutorial to update the phone? I tried searching but I wasn't able to find anything that answers my question! And does this depend upon the region from where the phone is? Will I be able to update the phone using this method? Can anyone please help me with a detailed answer?! PLEASE!!
There is no 100% foolproof method, even the sony official method can ruin your phone if YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.
However, IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS it will work.
Just try it.

Thank you very much... I was just looking for some confirmation. But now I got to know that this flash tool method is as safe pc companion method(correct me if I am wrong) I am pretty good at following instructions and also I have a rooted, bootloader unlocked, swaped xperia x8 running CM10. I am just so worried because I'm 17 and hence I don' t earn a single penny myself and this xperia T should last me atleast for the next 3 years. Would you please give me confirmation once again just for my satisfaction and also some general advice you think is necessary before following the above method? Like region verification, build no., kernel & firmware version, etc
...Pleaseee?!!:fingers-crossed:

Yes, rest assured, it's totally risk-free, using flashtool and flashing STOCK roms and kernels is risk-free, provided that you carefully follow the instructions...
for the firmwares and kernels, regions and the rest, don't worry about these things, as you know, you can flash ANY GLOBAL firmware, whether it is for France or M.E. or Malaysia, so don't worry, just search and see what build number is the last firmware for your T, then flash it, and thanks to DoomLord, you can root it even you have locked bootloader, using his rootkit, so don't unlock the bootloader for now
wish you best of bests, bro

Well thank you... that was really comforting..! Now I will definitely upgrade to jellybean on the first day itself after buying the phone.. Thanks for your reply! I'll buy the phone in 4-5 days and I'll enjoy real lag free 'Sony' jellybean. For too long I've been flaahing ROMs on my xperia x8, so I'm tired of it now. May be I won't get into rooting, etc for another 6 months! Thats what I'm saying now!
By the way if anyone comes across a better method please let me know! Ofcourse I'll be searching too..

Yup.. I did give it a thought! But its out of my budget... or otherwise I would have bought a nexus 4 16GB! Though xperia T is nowhere near the nexus 4 in terms of looks and hardware but it looks much better than SP. Also the SP has just 5.8GB of usable internal storage.... I felt really sad that I can't buy nexus 4 as it costs 100USD more than Xperia T and SP costs 70USD more... But then I thought I'm just 17! Not everyone of my age is lucky enough to own such a phone.. Many of my aquiantances can't even operate a Galaxy Ace!

[Q] How long wait for root ?

I'm getting my z3c on the 1., and I'm very excited.
I have a question though;
How long do you think it'll take before we get root on this phone, to open up for some more advanced functions ? I know no-one can say for sure, but you guys migth take a shot based on your experiences.
This will be my first new phone in years, so I'm not in the loop about how long this usually takes, after a phone comes out.

Is there a dev actively looking for a way to root locked bootloader? If yes, does he have a blog or Twitter? I want to follow his progress..

If we had a recovery, that tool wouldn't even be necessary xP
I'm guessing Doomlord will, in time, come up with something. Doesn't he always...?
Though I do believe we need to find a security hole to even get a recovery working (correct me if I'm wrong here).
EDIT: I've also tried every one-touch root apps and various Windows programs. None of them work ;-;
Damn you, Google, for hiring exploit patchers with such skills!

Patience is a virtue. But having the reason I bought the device go away if I unlock the bootloader is just unfair, imo.

Having bought all my devices over 6 months after they were released was probably much better for me than I ever realized xD
I'm tinkering with the idea of modding a stock FTF with root and whatnot and flashing it with flashtool. Anyone tried that yet? Or is everyone too busy looking for that one exploit they're unlikely to find?
EDIT: Back to the drawing board. Seems like things have changed a lot since I last took a look at an FTF.

Having bought all my devices over 6 months after they were released was probably much better for me than I ever realized xD
I'm tinkering with the idea of modding a stock FTF with root and whatnot and flashing it with flashtool. Anyone tried that yet? Or is everyone too busy looking for that one exploit they're unlikely to find?

you can make a prerooted firmware with prfcreator, but then its a flashable zip and we can only flash ftf files?

Well considering most people don't want to unlock their bootloaders and miss out on the amazing camera, we can only flash FTFs (Sony-signed software).
(No system/boot write access, so finding an exploit is crucial.)
Looks like my Nokia 6210 will have to keep doing its job for a while

[NEWS] Update with Widevine L1 support for Oneplus 5 and 5t

Just came to know about this. Updating the phone to support security level L1 requires authentic pc connection so phone has to be sent to service center to be updated.
interesting

Well id love if they cannuse this opportunity to make a vendor partition as well:laugh:
I love in India so I'll send mine for the update next week as they'll be covering courier cost.
I hope there will be some way in near future where it can be implemented in custom roms.

I'm gonna send my device in a few weeks too - I live in Europe
is it worth? spend 1-2 weeks without phone for an update.

I won't exchange my unlocked bootloader, twrp and root just for Netflix and other HD content never ever
Can it be ported?

+1, i have a OnePlus for that, friendly root, Pure Android (OOS or Custom) :highfive:
Netflix is on my computer or tv, not my Smartphone
They should make something that we could access remotely to update this. Like, c'mon, we are in 2018 they don't our phone in their hands to update it.
So is this done on the hardware level so that it sticks for factory resets and custom ROMs? You know, like official LineageOS 15.1 released today? :fingers-crossed:
And I noticed a few others mentioning locked bootloaders... I don't care if I have to wipe and relock it to have it serviced but will I still get L1 if I unlock and TWRP it again?
rAy
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs

This update is needed/convenient for users that are using a not OOS based custom ROM?

I think it's only with an oos based rom possible cause without locked bootloader it won't be possible in my opinion and regarding the statement of oneplus.
Don't know what to make of this but here it is anyway if someone is interested

Thanks it seems that you dealed with a support worker with little knowledge.
I dont think the "update" would surfive a full wipe as there are no extra partitions/chips to write to that we ourselfs cannot. If i'm wrong please do tell..

This update will survive wipes, and can surely be used for OOS based ROMs, OnePlus told me that rooting, unlocking the bootloader will not break the update again and that it is going to stick when on custom ROMs (they haven't guaranteed it tho). The reason why we, users cannot do the update ourselves, is because of Googles requirements - the executing PC must be authenticated to to generate special keys, which are unique to each and every device. It is inconvenient, but it's the only way OP can execute the update.

51.1.A.11.26 changelog

A bigger version jump than before.
Does someone know the changelog?

It should.
But you may get ghost touches and swipes.
I switched to European H8266 firmware.
Fast updates.
No problems.

Exactly what I get on my XZ2 Compact, not still updated to the last version (but I know it is rolling out). I have also overheating issue especially during charging, what about XZ2 big model?
I really have to know if this will be solved or I'll move to Galaxy S9.

I can't remember a real heat.
Or it got fixed.
Which hardware revision do you have?
And remember.
Samsung hates open source.
The update policy is crap.
And the exynos kills real custom ROM development, even with treble.

For what I have seen there are already some roms in development and root, which isn't available for our phone closed with DRM protection.
But at least something is coming out for S9, nothing for the Xperia.
By the way there is Snapdragon version of S9 which is amazing and powerful, so would be a good alternative, but I would not need it if they would fix these basic bugs.
How to know about hardware revision? I know I got H8314 model.

Yes, thanks to project treble, but they can't fix device specific things.
It should be on the box of the smartphone.
Abs after the official announcement, that the XZ2 and XZ2c are part of the open source programm, then you can also use the treble Roms and Sony's aosp image and some guys will make device specific roms.

Xz2 Compact REV 1 on the box...it doesn't sounds good. Maybe I should send it for warranty and try to get fixed touch and overheating, since it's the first version and they with the next ones fixed other issues.
Anyone having trouble installing this? Doesn't seem want to to install via OTA on my H8296 with 1314-9934 (IN) firmware, keep getting "Could not install."
I'll have to reboot and try again.

Eh, not yet.
I just used newflasher and Xperifirm and did it manually. Seems OK. Often this is a problem with Sony's updater software. Seen similar issues like this with the XZ and XZ1 where for some reason random updates just don't go (and if I wasn't lazy I'd check the logs to see where the problem lies ).
Does this mean you're OTA went normally for .26?
