[Q] Bricked after OTA Update? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks!
I was running a "google play edition" rom on my phone (rooted/ superuser). Today it said there was an ota update for kit-kat available. I let it go through with the install. For some reason the install failed (I think it was a 'status 7').The phone wouldn't boot (instead of a loading boot animation just blue screen) Then when I went to try to reflash my old rom (I was stupid and didn't have a backup), I got a status 7 error again, and I've gotten one for every rom I've tried to flash (HTC One nexus edition and another one, can't remember the name).
Anyway, I can push and pull files via adb but nothing will install. I've tried sideloading too but that failed also.
I have CWM 6.0.2.8.
Any help would be lovely.

Update CWM to newest image. That version won't work with 4.4

Okay, so I'm trying via fastboot but when I do I get this:
Code:
tys-macbook-pro:android tyrecegivens$ fastboot flash recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-m7tmo.img
unknown partition 'recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-m7tmo.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-m7tmo.img'
What am I doing wrong?
PS: thank you for your responses thus far.

Do you have the recovery in the same folder that fastboot is in?
Is the phone in fastboot USB mode while connected to the computer?
Try renaming it to "recovery" without the quotation marks. Then just use "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" without the quotations.

That did it! I think it was because I was using "fastboot flash filename.img", leaving out recovery.
Rom installed. Thanks a million man!

it is not recovery-cwm_3.1.0.1-sam-tab-10.1-052111.img when you unpack it.
ensure you have a working fastboot
you should fastboot boot it first prior to flashing/replacing.
you do not need to root your device to use this. if you are using this on the 'v', then you must unlock your bootloader prior.

It's in the Rom zip, assuming your not s-off it must be flashed separately
You can check if your s-off by going to hboot, toward the top it will say s-off or s-on...which basically means security off/on - its another level of security HTC added on above the bootloader
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
It says s-on
so what do i do from here?
Put your boot.img into the folder which your fastboot and adb are and then open a terminal to the folder. Then put your phone into fastboot by entering the bootloader. Then type fastboot devices to see if your device is connected to the computer. If it comes up with your serial number continue if not try again. Then type fastboot flash boot.img and then go to recovery and reflash the rom.

No no... bad advice... ODIN is for Samsung...
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Download either TWRP or WCX recovery. As long as your phone can get to the bootloader, you can get into Fastboot and flash the recovery again. Make sure the recovery is in the same folder where you have the adb.exe and fastboot.exe. Open up a command prompt, then change directory to where your fastboot and adb are. Type in fastboot flash recovery "recovery".img where "recovery" would be the name of the recovery file you download. This will flash pretty quickly. Once you get to that point, you probably are S-On so you need to make sure to extract the boot.img from the ROM you downloaded. Use either winrar or 7zip to extract the boot.img to the same location where you have the fastboot.exe and adb.exe. Then go to the command prompt again and change directories to the same folder where you have fastboot and adb. Type in fastboot flash boot boot.img. I usually would run this 3 times to make sure it loads properly. Once that is done reboot the phone again.
Sorry I used it on the HTC evolution 4g and it worked so I figured it would work for vivid

CWM trouble

Hi Guys,
A newbie here and of course I'm in trouble. HTC One International version.
Few weeks ago I unlocked the bootloader by HTC One Toolkit 1.9.3 and HTCDEV unlock token.
Installed CWM Mod Tuuch recovery.
Now I receive the E: Can't mount error with CWM...hence CWM won't also root the phone so it's Unlocked but unrooted.
Anyway, yesterday came the 4.3 OTA update...I downloaded and automatically tried to install it. It reboots to CWM and then of course get's stuck into CWM as it can't mount SD or anything...
Also for a strange reason whenever I go to Fastboot Windows 8 won't recognize the USB device...tried installin the HTC drivers, installed and uninstalled and installed again HTC Sync manager but still nothing...tried different USB cables, different USB ports..still nothing
What should I do to get CWM working and install the OTA?
The phone does boot to 4.2.2. ROM and works fine but as the OTA is downloaded is whines every now and then that I should install the update which I can't do..
Download an up-to-date recovery.img from the cwm thread and flash it via fastboot. There are several tutorials out there how to do that. Hope it will help

That's the question I keep asking myself....
Actually I thought of trying custom ROM. But then as the CWM had errord I had not the time to fiddle with that. So I thought that when I have time I'll deal with that.. Then came the update and surely I wanted to try the new 4.3 and Sense....
I guess now I need to have the time to deal with this..

Select 'Recovery' to boot into it.
Choose 'Mount' and check 'System'
Now try adb shell to check, if you have access to your Phone. If you have so, download a ROM, for example AICP, which I prefer, and copy it to your sd with this commad:
Code:
adb push C:\Path\to\you\rom.zip /sdcard/rom.zip
If this completes successfull go to the homescreen of twrp -> Install and choose this zip file.
For AICP you have to flash GApps after you flashed the ROM. I'll provide you the links:
AICP: http://tunsd.de/downloads/ICJ/AICP/m7ul/aicp_m7ul_jb-mr2_unofficial_2013-10-19.zip
GAPPS: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Push both zips to your sdcard as I described above and flash them in the priority I put the links..

[Q] Bootloop after going GPE to a 4.4 Rom

A couple of months back I flashed my HTC One to a GPE Rom and then updating using OTA to Android 4.3 which was working fine.
Upon finding this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356654
I wanted to flash to 4.4 using it. I followed instructions and it said it installed fine.
However I'm no stuck in a boot loop.
I get the "HTc quietly brilliant" screen and then it reboots, and this loops.
I can hold down vol button and then select recovery but as soon as I do it reboots and I cannot get into recover. I've tried a few adb commands like adb reboot recovery etc. and it just says device not found. Any tips?
Is your bootloader unlocked? Custom or stock recovery?

I didn't change anything, just flashed a Rom to make it a GPE. I just installed clockwork mod and flashed the rom.
this is the name of the rom I used

Maybe the 4.4 you flashed isn't compatible. I suggest you flash back that Rom or restore your nandroid backup if any

Same here. I even dunno how to flash a new recovery...i don´t have any access to the phone - only hboot...
Boot to bootloader. Choose fastboot and then connect your phone to PC.
Next step is to download the latest version of your favorite custom recovery and place it inside the fastboot folder. Open a command window and write fastboot devices to check that fastboot is working and then write the following:
Fastboot flash recovery filename.img

It won´t work...
I´m not able to mount/unmount system with theTWPR 2.6.3.0...but it´s the only recovery that works. I couldn´t even find the right cwm recovery...damn...
I'm was having the exact same problem, and I believe it's because you're S-ON like I am (says in the first green line of the bootloader)
Problem is try as I might (rum runner, Moonshine, revone) I cannot for the life of me get my phone S-OFF
Rum runner tells me there is no adb connection to the device, yet moonshine has no problem there and it's driving me nuts.
Until you can get S-OFF (and if you manage it let me know how) you'll more than likely have bootloop issues with that ROM

This one seems to be proper :
C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb push Android_Revolution_HD-One_4.1
_GE.zip /sdcard/Android_Revolution_HD-One_4.1_GE.zip
2282 KB/s (452221989 bytes in 193.456s)
..but after that,,,unable to open the zip file..and the best - the zip file has gone!!
Hmm..with TWPR I´m not able to mount the sdcard..maybe thats the failure...

Can't flash back to stock software...Need some help please.

Guys I need your help please..I root the tablet and flash Cromix ROM but the speaker went to crap..lots of crackling and distorted noise. So I went into recovery and flashed jb-4.3_ota-full_tf701t-macallan.zip to go back to stock. It did but its unstable and the speaker is still horrible..So I tried going to Asus Web site and DL the UL-K00C-WW-10.26.1.18-user.zip and put it in my Sd card and rebooted the device chosing RCK and it gives me an error..also did a wipe data on the option by the RCK...I cannot get it back to factory stock..what did I do wrong?
About in the settings
Build number
JSS15J.US_epad-10.26.1.18-20131217
020115_2013102100002
Then in Recovery is the Macalla-user BL released by "Us_epad-10.26.1.7-20131108"
I don't want to send it back to Asus, they are gonna charge me to fix this problem..Thanks
anyone please have any idea?
At least on tf201 (ordered my tf701 today) flashing stock rom downloaded straight from asus is a big no no on unlocked bootloader. You wiped data in rck? Do you mean in recovery or in the menu where are rck, fastboot and wipe data (just making sure)
How about in what state is your tablet now?

You can try this:
Download the stock recovery from here: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=3210
Copy the image to your fastboot folder.
Download the Asus firmware, unzip the file once and copy it to your internal SD.
Boot tablet into fastboot
Issue this command
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Note: Do not flash the recovery, just boot it.
It should recognize the firmware file on your tablet and flash it.
BTW, I doubt the rom has anything to do with your speaker problem, but it would be interesting to find out. Please report back.

YOU DO NOT FLASH THE RECOVERY IMAGE!
Boot it. Read the post and command.
You basically sideload the recovery. Instead of flashing it to your device, you boot it from your PC. But it should still function as if installed.
If you get an error, write it down. Exactly as it reports it.
