Pebble Battery Drain on Phone? - Pebble

I know that the Pebble only uses 5-10% of the phone's battery because of Bluetooth, but how much battery will the Pebble app, Pebble Notifier, and like three other Pebble apps use? Will they use minimal battery life (about 2-5%?
Thanks!
P.S. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S4.

Even less than 2-5% in my experience. I don't find them in my usage stats
Verstuurd vanaf mijn Xperia Z

I haven't seen it in my battery stats either using a N5. Even if it does take a bit of battery, remember that you're most likely going to be looking at your phone less and the constant lock/unlock should improve your battery.

This thread may be old, but I just came in to say that this comment is very true. Based on your kernel's governor settings (that throttle the CPU) you'll save a serious amount of battery even before considering the screen will be on less often.

With my N5, I have lots of awakes from Pebble app (v2.4 beta) which drains the battery of the smartphone. I'm using Dalvik because ART has a bug with the bluetooth with lots of awakes. Can anyone help me, please?

Looks like Pebble app is preventing the phone going into deep sleep though

not sure if other people are experiencing this. I am on V2 Beta 4.

Which watchfaces and watchapps are you using?

I've had a pebble for 4 months and haven't had it show up on my list in battery stats. That's using the pebble app, pebble notifier and canvas. Even using a watchface from canvas that shows weather and battery info doesn't cause a drain. And I wear my pebble 10+hrs a day.

I don't know, probably there's something strange with Pebble App and Android 4.4.2. Who notice this problem can please help us, providing the full list of watchapps and watchfaces installed?

Here are what I have on my Pebble:
- The original 3 watchfaces
- The World Metric watchface
- The Canvas for Pebble watchface that has 3 calendar entries, weather, missed text and phone counters
- Stopwatch for Pebble
- Multi-timer for Pebble

HTC One GE rom 4.4.2
Apps on the phone:
- Pebble
- Pebble Locker
- Pebble Notifier
- Pebble Dialer
Apps on Pebble
- Simple Weather
- Pebble Dialer
- Yahoo Weather 2.0
- Modern Extra
- Square Minutes
Update:
I am seeing a lot of nlpwakelock triggered from Pebble app.

I would wager either simple weather or yahoo weather(or both) are what's causing your wakelock issue. They tend to ping your phone at regular intervals and also when you switch to their watchface on the pebble, making the bt radio active and phone awake more often.

I agree with you. I tried to uninstall all the watchfaces that visualise the weather and seems that wakelocks never appear. Anyone can confirm this?

I use weather update function from Canvas for Pebble and my Pebble can last 5 days. However, I agree with the other poster that Yahoo Weather maybe the culprit. Yahoo always installs tracking codes for ad (spam) purposes. While ads currently do not display on your Pebble, I have to believe there are codes related to the overall Yahoo weather engine that constantly ping; consequently, causing wakelocks.

so that means even if the watch face is not active, the code is still running in the background?!?! or are we talking about that there are portion of codes running under the Pebble app?

It depends. If the app shows up in your list of running apps (settings - apps - running), then obviously it's using battery. It depends on what data a watchface pulls. If it doesn't poll your phone constantly, then the phone shouldn't be using battery.

Are you referring to android app or watch app? I am referring to the Yahoo Weather watch app, which pulls the weather info from somewhere. the assumption is that it connects to Pebble android app to get location; thus the nlpwakelock, and then pulls the necessary data from Yahoo weather API. If the Yahoo weather app is not running (active watchface), does it still run and pull location at the predetermine frequency?

See, that's what I'm not sure, you'll have to test. I do not use the Yahoo app; I don't know that when the watchface isn't active, does that app simply not displaying the watchface, but still runs in the background, or is it completely inactive altogether? I'm guessing that if the face isn't active, then there would be no reason for the Yahoo app to run. I thought you already stated that you did not experience wakelocks when you stopped using the Yahoo weather app.

SGS Config for Excellent Battery Life Return (For Reference)

Here is my current SGS config = Excellent Return on Battery Life
Current ROM - Doc & Kal ver 7.6.2, no lagfix installed - All tweaks enabled via CWM Might Disable-Phone is more responsive and faster but of course to much speed increases battery usage... 50/50 about tweaks imo...
AutoKiller - Settings set to optimal (i personally think strict kills heavily and programs restart to often which in turn uses battery life)
Rooted
Sync - Off
GPS - Off
Auto Rotation - Off & Off in Zeam
Brightness mainly off and minimum in Browser
Using both H/3G and 2G network
Launcher - Zeam
Homescreens - 2
Wallpaper - Dark coloured
Screen 1 - Battstatt (4x1), SiMi Clock (4x1)
Screen 2 - Power Control Plus - 2 options (brightness - Auto and off) & Screen Timeout setting -15 sec & 10 min)
6 icons (win7 type) Used Desktop Visualiser App, Beautiful Weather Widget (Updates Interval Manual)
Themed - Elegant Steel (Whole Rom)
Installed Zeam and ADW as a back up.
Windows Animation - Full
Cache Cleaner Installed
Adfree Android Installed
Xda Installed
GTasks Installed
Sms Backup & Restore installed
Titanium Back Free installed
Asop Stock Lock with extended controls Installed
Couple of other non-essential apps
Thinking about removing(No use for these):
Google Talk
The look of the phone might seem bland, but i prefer simple, clean and polished.
And yes my phone is smooth...But the main thing is the impressive Battery Life returned in use and idle.
Annoying question:
What do you consider excellent and what do you compare it to?
Install juiceplotter and give us some times. I get about 8 hours out of charge or 3hrs if on 3g

Well, not really a comparison but an example of what battery life I can achieve with my set up, of course its not to everyone taste but if you look closely you will see that I don't have any active battery services running constantly.
As it stands now I have achieved a 3% drain in 8 hours overnight idle time with my set up, that extra boost was achieved by removal of beautiful widgets and quite possibly the alteration of my status/notification bar which is no longer a shaded grey but now transparent (gonna add a screen shot today)
But my set up goes to show that you can have excellent battery life, but you have to balance the phone etc. more is less and less is more.
And I think its fair to say that even in daily usage you should by able to get good usage in my set up, because I will have nothing running except for what I am doing, rather then having a double drain.

Thats very bad.
I'm running Froyo 2.2 Scandinavian Update through Kies, Voodoo Lagfix. With the Exchange email bug active (constant 10% cpu load in background), 3g and Bluetooth on and moderate use, i drain from 100% to 20% in 11 hours.
With the Exchange email bug disabled (setting retrieval of email to Never), but with 3G and Bluetooth on, i drain from 100% to 50% in 11 hours with moderate use.
I recommend you to install SystemPanel app and let it monitor CPU usage for a day. The Top apps consuming cpu will become clear. My Galaxy CPU usage with the phoe asleep idles between 1-3%.
i'm on 2 days and 10 hrs since last unplugged and have 8% battery left... using superpower xda... scheduled data on every hour for 5 mins. night time sleep airplane mode. using jp6, rooted, oclf v2 (optimum and deadline).

yes superpower app is really useful for those who want to extend batt life.
ever since i installed it i've been easily having battery life for over 2d (it usually goes down to about 10% after 2d 12hrs)
only downside is that it takes a slight delay in switching between 2G and 3G (bad if you're in a rush) and when at night you can turn on sleep but won't get calls (bad if there is an emergency)
i have a question though, how do you get rid of thinkfree? i tried going into applications and then clicking on 'all' but everything is greyed out and i can't click uninstall.
any suggestions?

I guess power saver has its pro and con like every other app.
To remove think free, I downloaded titanium free.
Launch it, then at the top click on back up and restore, then scroll down to think free. Click on it, then clear data, then click uninstall.
Job done

O yeh, Also install Startup Manager and disable all them useless samsung startup processes like SNS , email (if you don't use built in email and use 3rd party like K-9) and remote wipes. What I noticed is that If i disabled something major at next boot the system re-enables the service so Its kind of safe (My experience anyways)

[Q] Scheduled "Extended Battery Mode"

[Q] Scheduled "Extended Battery Mode"
I would like to ask you if anybody knows how to set up the schedule time for turning on/off "Extended Battery Mode".
I tried SmartConnect from SONY but this app can only open the system settings shortcut in the specific time, but it cannot actually turn on/off Extended Battery Mode.
I have my Xperia V rooted.
Any answers appreciated.
Thanks.
But Smartconnect can disable/enable any connections (bluetooth, wifi, data, sound etc.) at a specific time, isnt it the same, but a different way?
I'm using it as some sort of automatic profiles service for specific times.
Yes, you are right - but I like the way how STAMINA and Ext. Battery Mode handles the battery.
(I would love to have real STAMINA mode on my Xperia V, but it is not possible.)
I would like to have:
- when battery lower than 20%, turn on Ext. Battery Mode
- when time from 23:00 to 6:00, turn on Ext. Battery Mode.
(I tried many Battery Saver app, however it actually does not work.)
Can you share with me some of your profiles in SmartConnect?
How did you set it up?
Thanks.
one setting i use mostly every day:
when time: 23:50-5:30 (Every Day)
startaction: disable bluetooth, disable mobile data, disable wifi, brigthness 7%
endaction: enable mobile data, brightness 40%
another thing i use:
when 22:00-7:00 (Monday-Friday)
startaction: Soundmode silent
endaction: Soundmode normal
something like this, i think its a good start, if you wanne keep open your smartphone at night. i had 3% battery usage last night (8hours)
(i also use greenify donate version, stock sony fw)
but the battery usage will vary from user to user, its up to the personal usage and what apps you use (in background and so on)
if my battery under 20% then i can manually turn down brightness, disable 3g (enable only 2g) i dont need my smartphone for that.i understand people like to have automatic functions like that, but i personal not think its necessary to have everything automatic.
Thanks.
1. Do you have any other Battery Saver installed?
2. We have almost the same settings. However, I found out that if you have Location-based WIFI enabled, it has higher priority than SmartConnect.
startaction: disable bluetooth, disable mobile data, disable wifi, brigthness 7% => WIFI will automatically turn on after few minutes.
I like this feature that saves battery while there is no known WIFI, but I would have it turned off during the night.

i use only greenify.
not using Location-based WIFI...i deleted that apk.
Ok, what did you GREENIFIED?
Any tips for smoother running?
if you use an app like sd maid, then maybe you noticed that apps like walkman are running in background, also DLNA/TV App-Starter and other stuff.
with donate version i can greenify system apps like walkman (experimental feature)
and i noticed that Xperia Home wakes up sony apps like walkman. (in greenify it said it) so i greenify stuff like walkman. but will it help for better battery life? no idea...i just think why it should run alltime in background the walkman or DLNA or whatever...for a faster first start i guess, but whatever.
but i never had a bad batterylife with stock fw. (also without greenify it was ok)
Thanks.
I used Wakelock Detector and I found out that many so called Batter Savers are not savers.
Why? They woke up my device so many times that it would have definitely affected my battery.
E. g. JuiceDefender - it woke up my device from DeepSleep app. 200x during 8 hrs.

Extended Battery Mode does a little more than just shutting off Bluetooth and Wifi. It also stops a number of backgrounds processes to be active.
The request for a scheduled Extended Battery Mode is a reasonable one, IMO. For example because enabling it kills functioning notification and reminders. To my personal opinion a selector what should be muted down would also be a good thing. Or the entire stamina thing should be integrated with Greenify, which in the end has exactly the purpose saving on system resources (and therefore battery power).
The basic thought of just letting things run is a comparable wrong idea as letting TV's, Surround Receiver and other household items in stand-bye. We all now now that this has been a real silly idea.
Thank you for supporting my idea.
Can you tell me what kind of app you have greenified?
Thanks.
P.S. I tried e.g. Tapatalk 4 - and it "Failed to put to hibernation".

Basically everything that does not require a widget to run, or alerts / alarms to be active. First I did not think so much of it, but Greenify has become my favourite app drawer, so to say. I think it's time for me changing to the donate version.
I got used to it but of course it's not a real app drawer. The idea shoot into my head, what if there was a launcher with a build in App Drawer that has the capability to greenify?
Sorry for the diversion from the subject.
I thought Sony including Superstamina in Smart Connect would be useful. It has already some system profiler functionality, and could be made even more being one.
I must say that Greenify is awesome. This guy should definitely work for Google.
He should show them how to handle the battery consumption.
However, I have still the problems. I did the test during the night:
- turned off WIFI + mobile data
- all apps available were greenified (Google Maps + Google Search as well)
... but still, my battery went down for 6% - check it.
Any suggestions?
I really do not understand why the phone needs to do wakelock almost every 30 seconds.

Same XV on stock ROM. Over night 1 % drop, sometimes nothing. Airplane mode, Extended Battery on.
No solution just a suggestion. Uninstall everything you don't need. Greenify Talk.

I am using airplane mode manually. I just accept to switch off /disable a couple of things when not needed. I used a number of profilers /schedulers in the past. In short, most cause more work than they save. If you believe you may need one, try Profile Widget, it's one of the most simple, hassle free.
My feeling about Hangouts is uninstalling it, and using the previous Talk.It is not as a fat pig. You likely still would not get notifications if it's greenified. I greenify it before I sleep.

Sorry, No. Disregard, I read your question incorrectly, dont know of an app. that can do that, since my Gear always depletes it's battery before my phone, never looked.
I can appreciate the concern of battery consumption with such an app/widget but if it could be set to poll only when the gear screen is on OR better yet, when the button/widget was pressed, that would be ideal. Wish I was smart enough to make such a thing.

If you are using a custom launcher there are quite a few, you can use UCCW, Zooper or you could also find a battery widget on the playstore.
Otherwise tap your screen twice with two fingers and it will display your battery percentage if enabled in gear manager.
I just double tap the screen with two fingers to quickly check battery level.

Thanks for the reply but I think there is some confusion as to what I'm after. I have UR Battery on the gear which gives me a widget already to display and see the battery level remaining on the gear itself. What I am after is a way to simply look at the gear to get a battery level reading somehow of the PHONE itself, not the gear.
PS: If I tap the screen twice, my screen turns off. I have this set up in apex and using "Screen Off" app I believe it's called. I'm thinking again though that you are referencing showing the Gear's battery level this way and not the phone's?
I use solo battery widget which displays a circular graphic with numerical % inside it. Works well

Tasker to the rescue
This can be accomplished on the gear s2 using the task s2 companion app. Setup a task to send the current battery level as a notification. Enable tasker notifications for the gear s2 in gear manager.
I was needing the same thing, so created an app called 'phone battery widget'.

firstly, whenever I try to launch any app from the launcher, it gives me a force close error. the launcher seems to stay on, but, again, when i try to start an app, FC/
secondly, the weather seems to not be working when using the geolocation. it's fine when I use a custom location to set it manually.

after the update last evening, everything seems to be working fine.
this is, by far, the best wear launcher out there!

have been using mini launcher since the watch was released. however, since I saw this post, I started using Apollo, and I would never go back to the other one.
It is really user friendly and make life much easier!
try it out
Hmm cant get it to work.
No matter what i do i cant get the launcher to start on my watch. Also when i start the app in my phone i get the disconnectedicon up in the right corner.
I have restarted the phone and the watch several times now also tried to reinstall it twice to no avail.
Phone is a Xperia Z1 and well a g watch r.
oh yeah i "resynced apps in wearsettings as well.
EDIT: Mini started working within a few minutes.
What did i do wrong? waited probably 15 minutes for the other launcher to connect. Also tryed the swipe from downleft to upper right and didnt get anything
Will retry it again in a few uppdates i guess.

hm, that's strange.
I just installed it on the phone and within a minute or so, got the notification on the watch that the app was installed there as well. Then had the little icon appear in the lower left zone of the watch and I could start pulling that and worked.
Prob try reinstalling the app?

Is there any way of disabling the new factory drawer and just use this one?
Using wear 5.1.1

SmarterBit
Hi everyone! I have recently released an Xposed Framework module called SmarterBit to allow you to enhance your Fitbit Charge and Charge HR fitness trackers.
Features
SMS/Text Notifications
Custom SMS/Text notification format
Notifications only if the device screen is off
Hide Caller ID for phone calls
and many more to come!
Features I am currently working on adding are quiet hours (either "intelligent" based on your Fitbit detecting sleep or a user-set range), Tasker implementation, smart alarms, and adding more integration with other messaging services (WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hangouts, etc.)
Link
The app is currently on sale through the Google Play Store for $1.50 and can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikerinehart.smarterbit
I am open to any and all suggestions for feature additions from the community
I just installed the app and I'm testing it out. I see messages typically get cut off. Is this just a screen timeout limit? I sent you a PM too.

Unfortunately yes - the screen timeout limit is a firmware limitation.
How about MMS notifications? I understand you can't translate pictures into text, but sometimes there is text accompanying the picture. You could add the option to customize like SMS so that you could at least see who the MMS is from (ex: MMS received from %sender%).

Heh, I was actually thinking about this the other day. I'll see what I can do
Did today's Fitbit app update break your app? SMS is no longer working for me. I see they implemented new Notification settings in the app update today.
I just bought the app and coincidentally Fitbit app has updated as well, so I couldn't get SMS notifications working after setting everything up. Calls got displayed on my Charge HR as they would with Fitbit's own Caller ID.. Thought of refunding the app but then stumbled across the post above. I can Enable SmartBit in the Fitbit app, but SMS notifications don't show up on my wrist.
Update:
After rolling back the Fitbit app to 2.10 (I don't care for GPS routes in 2.11 as I don't own a Surge) and deleting app data for SmartBit I can tell for sure that neither of notifications worked with 2.11. The vibration pattern SmartBit uses for CallerID is different to the default one-time kick from Fitbit's Notification. Also, when SmartBit actually overrides the default notification engine there's no indication of 'Notifications are running' in the status bar. What seems to have changed in 2.11 is the fact that they now allow you to select from multiple notification sources - Dialer, Skype .. whatever have you. SmartBit must not be set up to deal with these, despite the fact that it overrides the default 'Enabled Notifications' with 'Enable SmartBit' in Fitbit's application.
On a related note, I previously had a Huawei phone (H30-U10), where SMS were being routed as calls by default (I guess for their own Talk Band device), so my CHR was reading them as a classic pager would without any human intervention. Switching to a Sammy phone has lost me this feature so I was forced to look for a workaround.
Yes - the latest Fitbit update breaks SmarterBit. Please rollback to the previous version (2.10 I believe) if you would like SmarterBit functionality... At least until I can reverse engineer their new changes and push an update. I've recently started a new full-time job so I don't have as much time as I used to, but I'll try my best to get it updated for everyone

Any progress?
I'll steer clear of this app. Seems dev is too busy (understandably). What other options are out there for more functionality from charge hr?
