That was one of the things that I was worried about. A small fix is necessary. Give me about 15 minutes. I'll tell you when it's all fixed.

That's odd. I'll shut this down until I have time to look at it.

Hmm maybe the ROM is too large?
According to windows it is 1.14GB unzipped. And the system partition is just 1100mb. I am not able to change that in safestrap though.

Hello, all!
I promise more updates to this and apologize for the freakishly large file size, but here, I give to you, Fire Hydrant, a custom version of Fire OS, that has the added features listed below.
- Rooted
- Busybox Pre-Installed
- Everything Deodexed
- Everything Zipaligned
- Over-The-Air Updates from Amazon are disabled
- Lock Screen Ads removed
- Google Apps Added
- Google Play Store app downloading fixed
- "Google Experience Launcher" added as an option.
- Google Search Pre-installed
While some of this may seem overwhelming as of right now, I can promise updates to this that will bring a better experience to owners of the Kindle Fire HDX 7".
I can not guarantee to you that all of the features above will work. I do not have a Kindle Fire HDX 7", so I was unable to do testing of any kind.
ALSO, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN TO YOUR DEVICE. WHILE I TRY MY BEST TO KEEP EVERYTHING SAFE, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL NOT BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
Download:
Downloading isn't currently available while I investigate why it isn't working...
I will try to get this uploaded to other places once I get the chance. For the time being, and my current location, I had to upload to Dropbox as Google Drive upload speed was terrible.

Upload it as a torrent. Post a magnet link or torrent file. It's not like it's illegal content. You made it. I'll seed. I have a fast connection. In Utorrent goto file new torrent then seed it. It's that simple

I wasn't discussing the ROM as an uploading issue, but more as an installation issue. He was suggesting that the contents of the system folder in the zip file were too large for the allowed space on the device itself. So I removed a few things and replaced the "update-binary" so hopefully all should be okay.

Oh! That makes more sense. Lol. Well, the new build is already uploading to Dropbox. Hopefully this will fix all the installation errors. I just removed the Google+ apk (You can download it from the Play Store) and amazon's pre-built, heavy-on-memory fonts partition. I replaced them with just plain ol' android fonts (it should look the exact same).

No. I don't think we need close the update access.
I'm giving this a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper&hl=en
Worked fine in the past with my HTC EVO. It says it will work with anything that runs ext4 (the kindle does).

It certainly may have changed, but this isn't how it worked with the original KF. When Amazon pushed OTAs they automatically updated the the os. There wasn't even a notification that they were sending the update. I remember watching my KF turn on all by itself and then reboot while wondering what the heck was going on.

I have not move/rename. I actually want the updates to see how they affect the system, as long as they don't fix the root exploit. The reason I was annoyed is because I didn't notice it was an update until about the third time I flashed a backup and looked closer. Now I can make a backup of that version. By the way check out the android development section, Hashcode has figured out a way to bypass the locked bootloader

I received the same update - first I was confused, why my root was gone while it still having the 7.2.1 on, because I couldn't remember what was written after user_*** I wondered what happend - but thanks to that post now I understand.
Next to the lost of root, Amazon (which don't like us playing) turned back the permissions on the dtcp_apk.apk what brought the adds on the lockscreen back. They probably just pushed a new version of this file.
Yes, I just downloaded root checker and confirm my root is gone as well. The good news is that Google play is still working. My problem is how they pushed that updated without requiring user approval. This looks like a violation of our privacy rights. I'm going to research this further.

Google Wallet for the HTC ONE.
-Easy fix for viper Rom
-Should work on stock rooted w/ wp . -removed Kernal
-Always save your original build.prop before modifying
Using Rom Toolbox
1. Open up build.prop editor
2. Change the following values
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
3. Save changes
4. Reboot device, install wallet and open
-wallet takes a couple minutes to initialize so be patient, it works great!
5. Restore your original build.prop
This method should work fine on stock rooted also as long as you have a kernal with /system wp removed.
Also, if you don't want Rom toolbox you can navigate to /system/build.prop and open the file in any text editor to make the changes.

Honestly I'm not sure where I got it. I believe that it came from Viperrom. Duce says that it wasn't added in d3rpONE (I noticed mine working while I was on d3rpONE, but I think something restored it from viperrom), and the only other ROM that I've run is Viper's.

Kindle Fire HD 7" D025A Version - Return to Stock

Hey guys. I have a Kindle Fire HD 7 D025A (1st gen I think? 2012 release) that was rooted a long time ago and had the Cyanogen os put on it. Its become very unstable (reboots a lot, launchers crash, etc) and I would like to restore it back to the way it came from Amazon. The unfortunate part is, I am a total newb at this, and I wasnt the one who rooted it originally so I have no idea how it was done. Can anyone give me a step by step guide on the correct way to restore back to the original? Been trolling websites all morning, but with as many different releases of kindle as there are out in the world, I want to make sure its done right.
Thanks in advance.

Umm ok, thats more confusing than anything Ive ever read in my life. What is fastboot? I installed the android sdk thing it called for, but fastboot nor adb is an executable. I am a complete and total NEWB. Have never done anything like this before.

if you have a custom rom, you should already have 2nd bootloader

Yes, got the twrp to boot
The stock file I grabbed was from http://rootjunkysdl.com/files/?dir=Amazon Kindle Fire HD and was the kfhd-twrp-2.6.3.1-recovery image.

twrp-2.6.3.1-recovery is just twrp, no stock rom files
you need a stockrom.zip

Bleh, that was annoying. So finally got the stock zip to work. Had to wipe twice in order for it to boot into something not TWRP. Thank you very much btw and sorry if I seemed a little short. Im a computer guy by trade for over 20 years, but this programming and hacking stuff has never been my cup of tea. Finally into the basic default setup pattern now.
Ok, so now that Ive been shown and taught how to return this Kindle to stock, can you show me a list of all the custom OS's I can put on it? I know Lineage doesnt support it, and I know Cyanogenmode has a version 14, but I want something that will continue getting updates.
