If you want a phone with Top of the line Hardware and ICS that runs smooth and looks pretty stock. Then yes, the Atrix HD is a sexy phone.
If you are looking for a development community and want to do some flashing and Rom'ing then look for another phone.
I'd write more on this subject, but you are asking a question we have gone over a million times since the phone was released.
Look through the Atrix HD General forum. You will see a lot of post from SGS3 owners and HTC One X owners who returned their phones for the Atrix HD.
Atrix HD Cons:
Battery life is acceptable. But weak.
No NFC chip. (oh darn)
No FM Tuner (meh)
Camera Quality is effected tremendously by lighting conditions.
Battery Cannot be removed, charge time is slow. (no options for extended batteries and no keeping spare around)
No Root access.
Locked Bootloader. ( because of this, we have no root, no custom firmware or tweaked Kernels, and no ROMS!!!)
Look through the rest of the forum please. There is so much on the subject already so check it out for yourself.

Meh, the development side will come with time, both atrix(es?) had locked bootloaders, so I expected nothing less with this one. We all just get to sit around the campfire and sing kumbaya until the webkit is realeased . NFC or FM aren't really issues at the moment, I'm in rural (and when I say rural, I mean RURAL) Virginia, me and possibly 20 other people in this town even know what NFC stands for . About the ONLY issue I've read about so far is that darn battery! Come on now Moto!

I didnt want to seem like a fan boy that would give you biased information. So I just gave you the cons and let you decide on your own.
I'm between Northern VA and Washington DC in the over developed Tysons area. So NFC and all that Jazz is picking up.
This area is like the east coast's version of Beverly Hills. EVERYONE around here either has the SGS3 or an Iphone.
Looking at the prices for off contract phones, I'd say you have a really good deal.
Get it, its a nice phone and it'll do what it was engineered to do.
As for boot loaders being unlocked, I think it was only the Original Atrix and the Atrix 4g that got unlocked. The Atrix 2 (The phone I upgraded from) Still has a locked bootloader, and STILL has no ICS.
My one and only complaint is that I had a lapdock that I could no longer use because Webtop OS was removed.
I could careless for the bootloader as I dont like messing with non-stock firmware and kernels.
I'd really like to see this phone being rooted because this phone has a lot of potential just in editing the build.prop to be a much better performing phone than the SGS3
Anyways, thats just my 2 cents.

Yea for that price, it's too good to pass up. Plus Motorola is the best when it comes to RF and call quality. I keep hearing the build quality on
the Atrix HD is excellent. It's coming to Canada next week! You bet I'll be getting it.
If $49 is all you can afford the Atrix is a good choice. If you can afford $199 the Gs3 is the superior device. Bigger screen, bigger battery, double the RAM, superior camera in all lighting conditions, more dev support, NFC. If you dont like touchwiz, plenty of free launchers. If you don't like the plastic, easy to put a case on. Much harder to fix the shortcomings on the Atrix.
350$ is a great deal for this phone. I wouldn't miss it.
My opinion when i got the s3 i missed my 1x like no other then returned the s3 and went back to the 1x i sold my 1x to get this and havent missed it yet. The only thing im not liking that much is battery life but i can live with that. With the 1x i could easily make it through a day with 5 hour's screen on time with root 3 without root. So im getting about the same time without root. The screen is amazing to me i like it better than fhe 1x and s3 but thats just my opinion. This is an amazing phone for the price

I was in the same boat. I was selling my Atrix 4G with lapdock, car dock, standard dock and a few accessories for $350, planning on upgrading to a galaxy S3 with the proceeds. I got an offer to trade straight up for an Atrix HD (no contract renewal required!) and I took it. I have only played with the phone for an hour or two so far and all seems great.
And... if push comes to shove, I should be able to get at least $350 out of it!

Wow, HOX and GS3 users returned to get Atrix HD?! That is the perfect example of insanity. I wouldn't return my Atrix 2 for a AHD, let alone an HOX or my beloved GS3. Unlocked bootloader, removable battery, superior camera, incredible dev support, JB coming very soon, ridiculous aftermarket support.....who'd give that up for a device with pretty much the opposite of that?

I got the AHD cause I had to... All in all, I'm kinda sorry I traded in my RAZR (which was basically a small tab, since I couldn't afford Verizon's wallet raping) for this phone... If I can afford to, I'm returning it, and getting an S III. I don't want that one either, but the options are far better...

This phone seems like a good value, nice build quality, great screen and nice design. Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions since I've been an iOS user for years and am an Android noob.
1. If music is imported from iTunes to this phone using the Welcome Home apps that AT&T provides, will it play in its current file format, or do I need to change the mp4 to mp3 in iTunes before transferring?
2. I have several email accounts (Yahoo, Comcast, Go Daddy) including Gmail where my contacts are stored. Is the stock email app on this phone unified and capable of adding all the accounts or do I have to use individual email apps? And does it offer both POP and IMAP types?
3. I understand the boot loader is locked but it's important to me that whatever phone I get that it can be updated to JB. Is it at all possible that Moto will update the OS?
4. Is it possible to move apps to the microSD or just photos, videos, etc?

1. not sure, but aiff files definitely don't work on android phones
2. Yes, and yes, but gmail decides to also add any gmail email you add which can be annoying sometimes (turn off notifications on one of the two apps)

Well, been away for a couple of days, so I figure everyone needs an update on my original thread topic. I ended up buying it because, well, I am a sucker for a good deal. Initial impressions were about like everyone's experience. Silky smooth, almost vanilla-"like" UI, so-so battery life. I've got to say though, after letting the battery cycle a couple of times, and installing Juice Defender (first app that goes on ANY new phone I get), the battery life has improved significantly. I've been unplugged since about 5:45am, charged about 15 minutes on my hour lunch break in the car, it's now 11pm and I am at 70% with about an hour and a half or so of internet use, about 35 minutes of Backstab HD , and about 15 minutes of Angry Birds.

2. I can answer this partly. The stock gmail app will let you add multiple gmail accounts, so I am assuming you can multiple email accounts also. And it does offer both POP3 and IMAP types.
3. I'm willing to step out on a limb and say yes it will receive an official JB update. If Google hadn't bought Moto, then I wouldn't be near brave enough to touch this topic lol, but I feel pretty secure saying it will receive the update.
4. I know you can do it with TI Backup on other phones, but that requires root, like all "good" android apps , so I'm assuming it may work when someone finally roots this thing. Don't let the "free app2sd" apps fool you though, I've tested about 7 or 8 of them on my AHD so far with no luck.

Thanks folks.. it appears nobody here has been a recent iOS user hence the unclear answer around whether I need to change the iTunes music format.. Am also wondering about ring tones since I created about a dozen using music from iTunes.
Meantime, I ordered a white AHD from Amazon and evidently due to lack of proper box labeling on Moto's part, I was shipped the wrong color twice, so we decided it was best to cancel the order until Amazon could get things figured out. It appears they have now, and showing some proper business etiquette they gave me two credits amounting to more than I paid for the phone
In the interim, I did some more research and read and watched some more reviews of which several reviewers thought the build quality was marginal and complained of flimsy power and volume buttons that were also loose. Has anyone here experienced this? Good to see that Juice Defender helps with the battery issue too since that is obviously another weak link.
And as you may know too, due to slower than desired sales of the HTC One X, the price is dropping to the same as the AHD on Sunday, making this is even more difficult choice, though the One X does not have a microSD slot and from what I've seen, has had some pretty major hardware issues along with a poor job with how Sense screwed up multi-tasking. Any thoughts or recommendations here? I have to wait a few days until my upgrade is reset anyway, so I'm going to take my time. Thanks.

I was an ios user (ipod touch 4) recently, but i never bought songs from itunes, though all of my songs except the .aiff files uploaded to google music easily, so i say go ahead and try that on your computer first, if it works you should have no problem.
I'm a former iPhone user and currently have a HOX. I was able to use google play music on my mac to transfer my songs to google music and then sync with the phone the google play music app allows to store music on the device or cloud (similar to how the iTunes cloud worked).
As for which device is better, I have had no hardware issues with the phone. Actually the hardware is pretty impressive even without the microSD card and the camera is second to none (that includes my wife's iPhone4s). My only gripe is multitasking but that is fixable by flashing various ROMs and rumored to be fixed in the next software release based on a leaked update. And now that HTC had released source, development is likely to only pick up.
So why am I hanging out in the MAHD forum? I'm intrigued by this device and the slightly smaller screen, the unlock button on the side versus the top and new Motorola skin. In fact I'm using the MAHD launcher and widgets on one.

I just wanna ask the people who have run out and bought this phone if its really all that? I have read reviews watched them talk about it on android central and looked at the specs and compared it to the other phones that are out. I just want to know expierences so far
Well the scary thing to me is... I don't feel the need to root at the moment... It's smooth, battery life is amazing, active notifications are AWWWWESOME. once bootloader is figured out I may change my tune but my phone is in a very comfortable state. I LOVE IT!

i went to the att store today and played with this phone and i can say im definately not impressed at all. i compared the screen side by side and the difference in the 2 screens is really noticable. Also it so reminds me of a iphone i dont know why but it just does. i know alot of people are gonna argue my opinion but as for a phone guru as myself i can pretty much say its not any kind of a flagship device. only thing that may be good about it more than my HTC One is battery life. I al really hoping the hanami is gonna be a great phone and be my next purchase

I think the more you use this phone the more you will appreciate the innovation and little things. I now love this phone.

I came from the N4, which totally sucked. I had to strain to hear people. The X has excellent call quality, earpiece and speaker volume.

People crying over the dual-core processor...Motorola decided to choose what mattered more, which is battery life over "raw computing power". without increasing the size or the weight of the phone by adding a bigger and bulkier battery. Our phones just need to be fast and smooth enough for our every day tasks such as watching videos, playing games, browsing etc. We're not using these things for high end computing or folding proteins etc. Just like a computer with a 12 core processor won't matter if you're still using HDD and not SSD. Or people who only care about the "horses" on a car and disregard the weight of the vehicle or its transmission etc. I don't think people understand the software possibilities of having hardware designed for "always-on" mode besides the touchless google now feature. I've tried installing a voice assistant like the one on Moto X from the play store and my battery died within a couple hours with the screen off. The X8 system is really redefining how conventional smartphones would work in the future once people realize the possibilities that can bring. Now whether or not you agree that your smartphone should always be on and listening/aware is a different debate.

The phone isn't underpowered. Its GLBenchmark results are better than the SGS4 and HTC One. The CPU is two Krait 300 cores (which is the same as what's in the Snapdragon 600). With two cores disabled on the Nexus 4, the device runs just fine. If I can get this device for a good price, it will be my next phone.
I'll be the first to admit I wrong (there I said it). When I first heard the specs and price point, I figured Moto was doomed and their marketing gurus priced them right out of a comeback. Again, I was wrong.
Friday I picked up a Galaxy Mega 6.3 from AT&T and I took it back on Saturday afternoon. Very laggy (not as much as the S4 though), it was huge (and I'm a big guy at 6'3" 330lbs), the only thing I can say was good was the typing experience because I had so much room on the screen. But the phone was just too big, probably a great device in the end but just not for me.
Saturday afternoon I picked up the Black AT&T Moto X and this phone is fantastic and I don't say that about a lot of phones at all (I think the last time I said it was in 2007 when the first iPhone came out (yes I've used and respect all of the OS's, each has their own pluses and minuses) and before that, when the Moto Razr came out.
The phone feels perfect (IMO) in the hand, like Moto took the time to actually do the research with actual customers and see what they liked and didn't like and made change until they got it right. The 4.7" screen, in the same space as the iPhone 5 claims to only be able to fit 4", is great. Battery life is phenomenal (I'm not a heavy user but I never charged it out of the box and the charge that came on it lasted until it hit 4% this morning (Monday) when I got to the office at 6:30am. Build quality is great and believe me I have a mild case of OCD so I checked it out, buttons are nice with a definite tactile click to them (unlike the HTC One's power button that's almost always sunken in), buttons don't rattle (like they do on the S4 and the i5), soft touch material is great, screen is bright and not quite as SAMOLED'y as the S4 (again IMO) but marginally less impressive than the Super LCD3 on the HTC One. Focusing on day-to-day use and user experience, I have to admit I think it was the right way to go for a change.
There's more but I'm sure those of you that have one know what I'm talking about and those that don't, go try one out (at least if you're on AT&T for the moment here in the US), if you don't like it, return it but you might find yourself pleasantly surprised. I've only had it for two days but as right now, barring anything major popping up before the end of the next 10 days, I think this one is a keeper. And if this one develops an issue, I don't think I'd be getting anything else, I'd have this one DOA'ed and get another, it is really that good.
Excellent Job Google and Motorola on this one; very, very impressed.

That's really good to know. I had a N4 for a week and absolutely loved it. I had the ticking sound in the earpiece when on a call and buzzing whenever the screen was on. I couldn't justify the money for such obvious design flaws. It is comforting knowing the X is better in this regards.

What device were you originally coming from? I'm coming from the HTC Vivid (I'm torn between trading it in for cash and shooting it out of a cannon)

Recently I've had the SGS4, HTC One, iPhone 5 and the Optimus G Pro. User experience and build quality, the X wins and like I said in my post, I was not a believer of the X when I first heard about it but after trying it I'm am very pleasantly surprised. My suggestion again would be to try it and if after a week you aren't at least partially sold on it, take it back. There are definitely a lot of good choices out there right now, it's all about what works for you.

Just my 2 cents as information for folks who are pondering to switch from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 5:
I used my Gnex for 2 Years or so and were quite happily. After reading through the threads i was a little bit worried about the speakers and other things - but all in all i can say the Nexus 5 is worth the switch!
First impressions after 1 day playing around:
- it is fast as hell - even with all the same apps installed again!
- the camera is very, very ok! Not as good as the first published pictures promised but a lot better than the old one - especially in dark areas.
- the hdr mode is very cool!
- the loudness of the speakers is clearly louder than on the Gnex! And for my ears its not a "tin can sound"!
- the battery lasts longer than the gnex - even with its first loading!
- no clickering sounds from the power / volume buttons
- display is great, no angle problems - surfing is fun with that!
- UPDATE: Played around with the GPS (Sygic and GPStool) -> fixes are clearly faster than with the GNEX and navigation is nearly "realtime". The N5 doesnt get so hot as the GNEX too!
- UPDATE: Display colors: brighter and black is "more black" than on gnex!
Drawbacks so far:
- had some fc's when starting the camera
- i am too stupid to let the notification led do its job together with K9 mail, calendar and sms/hangouts
- I liked the center of weight better on the Gnex which was more on the bottom side than exact in the middle like Nexus 4, 5, G2 etc...
UPDATE: use light flow for the led - and everything is fine!

A lot of people who got a gnex signed up for 2 year contracts so it's around the time they'll be looking for a new handset.
I'm one of those and i know of a couple more who have already upgraded from gnex to N5

Here's my additional comments to those possibly thinking of upgrading - From GNex to Nexus 4 to Nexus 5
Users coming from GNex -
The difference between Gnex to Nexus 4 was amazing. Definitely worth the upgrade in every aspect. Users coming from the GNex to the Nexus 5 directly will notice a night and day difference in every aspect also. Speed speed speed!
Users coming from Nexus 4 -
I just received my Nexus 5 yesterday and am experiencing mixed emotions on whether it's worth the upgrade from the Nexus 4. First observations aren't overly impressive. I like the overall build of the n5 except for the camera ring sticking out. I've already read a few reports of it scratching/chipping simply from placing it on a table. I've never used cases on previous phones but this one might need something to protect it. However, cases take away from the look and feel of the phone so it's a tough decision.
I'm disappointed the screen edges aren't slightly rounded like the n4. It made swiping feel nice and comfortable and that's somewhat lost with the n5. My n5 'whites' seem washed out or 'yellowish/creamy' compared to the n4. "Same IPS screen", maybe just need to give this a day or so to settle in. It took a while between my Gnex and n4 to get used to. I don't know enough about screen technology to know if any of this is normal or not.
Possibly my biggest annoyance with the phone is on the bottom right back of the phone (on the speaker side) I seem to have a small raised surface, almost as if the back wasn't fully snapped in. Pressing down with force doesn't snap anything further into place though - this feels like a defect and something that'll annoy me if I keep the phone. I compared to a friend's and it's definitely less to almost not there on his. Not sure if this is the clip/glue/material or whatever is holding the device together that's causing the slight raised surface.
I can't comment on battery life to much yet. This morning I left the house on a full charge and got to the office at 78% (45 minute commute door to door - normal use, just reading G+ and reddit). On the n4 I'd be down to about 70% with the same use. Not much better but needs more testing. A big deciding factor will be whether the phone gets as hot as the n4 did from moderately heavy use. I haven't given the camera or speakers a test yet but will later on.
The s800 doesn't feel THAT much faster than the s4 pro when comparing side by side in the OS. Yes, it is (obviously), but only slightly during navigation and loading apps. There isn't enough of a WOW factor coming from the n4 here as I was hoping.
Overall, I'm going to give the phone a few days before deciding whether to keep it or return it.

Disregarding if its a small minority or not.. I personally don't think its worth a new thread because there is enough information on this phone on this forum.
It doesn't need a N5 VS Gnex thread to find out if the N5 is better then the Gnex.

I should be getting mine tomorrow. I too am switching from a GNex. I have home, bills, kids, etc and don't buy each new phone that comes out. I really didn't see the need. My big rationale now is dumping VZN. The N5 should be a nice update for a carrier switch!

everyone should switch phone every 2 years to notice the "upgrade"
Tomorrow should have many new Nexus 5 owners with the big November 8th deliver wave.
Haven't played around with it much, but I can vouch for the speed. I'm currently in the process of rooting the device with the Nexus 5 Multi-Tool, and it got me in a bootloop (yay).

I too came from the Galaxy Nexus. Naked, the Nexus 5 is way more grippy but I still learned my lesson and bought a case for this phone. The GNEX would constantly slip out of my hands and pockets with no case. The speed increase is nuts. The GNEX was never a slouch but man this thing screams. Apps, webpages load almost as fast as my desktop PC with a SSD in it. I feel like I gain minutes a day doing the same things I used to do on my old phone.
The one thing that blew my mind with Android 4.4? I wake up almost daily before my alarm goes off. So when I woke up early I was fiddling with my phone and I noticed a alarm notification. Dismiss alarm 30 minutes before its set to go off. How amazing, normally I would wait until it went off to do my morning routine, because I'd forget to turn my recurring alarm back on. More minutes saved everyday...
I currently own a GNex and my N5 is sitting at the local UPS depot. Hopefully I will get it tonight. In any event I am excited to start using the the phone. My GNex has the volume bug and so I cannot have conversations longer than 5 minutes without losing the ability to hear the other person. In addition, my battery life has become terrible and the screen is degenerating (lots of burn in). Not that the screen was of the greatest quality to begin with, but I can definitely see the difference with age.
In any event I will post my comparison when I receive my new phone.
Agree on the speed difference. Night and day - even versus an over clocked GNex. Chrome now actually works well as it should.

I owned a GNEX for a little bit a few years back and what a terrible phone that was. The screen was crap, the camera was one of the worst I have seen and the battery life.....OH THE BATTERY LIFE!
Going to an N4 from the GNEX might put you into a small acoma but going from the GNEX to the N5, let's just say be sure to breath slowly and have someone near you who can call you an ambulance if you start feeling chest pains.
Coming from the Galaxy Nexus myself, Chrome and its stupid, stupid "font boosting" is my biggest gripe with the Nexus 5. Can't wait for the AOSP Browser at least until an option (I would be happy with a chrome://flag...) arrives. But I'm waiting for 1,5 years now and still this simple option isn't there.
Enough Chrome rant, I loved my Galaxy Nexus but so far I've not looked back. The Nexus 5 is a great phone and it addresses my biggest problems with the Galaxy Nexus: speaker loudness and GPS accuracy and speed. My GPS problems were only minor but now I see that it can be much better. Also I can finally hear the navigation announcements AND listen to the radio!
I've been searching for gnex vs nex 5 comparisons and finding none. I'm glad to hear that battery life and speaker volume aren't things that I have to worry about.

But I like reading threads like this, cause I am also in teh 2 year upgrade club. I am coming from the HTC Sensation, very similar specs to the GNex, and I am loving life on the 5.
I also think that is the big split, on Nexus 5 performance on this forum. Some people are comparing it to a 2 month old phone, for their perception. While others are comparing it to a 2+ year old phone. I can imagine if I had the G2 or S4 and bought the Nexus 5, I wouldn't be nearly as impressed as I am coming from a dual core 768 MB of Ram phone.

I love the GN's screen and I'm not sure I'm ready for a screen where the blacks aren't black. I loved the GN, it's a great phone. We'll see tonight how I feel about the switch.

The point is that Mr. Big Shot doesn't have GNex and doesn't care if anyone else will find it useful, but has to say something anyway. I believe that's called trolling. It was useless spam in context of this thread. It's not for him to decide if the thread is worth it or not (once again well done OP and BIG Thanks!).
There was number of threads comparing it to N4 and G2 but non to GNex. If you ask me this one is more useful than comparison to N4 (locked in 2 year contract as well). Other people read it. G2 vs Nexus5 on the other hand makes sense as it help you choose the right phone for you now.
Other comparison threads mention bad/quiet speaker on Nexus5. It made me worried because Gnex was really quiet. But this one say that it's way better than GNex which gives me a reference point and I know I can live with it
I am undecided on this device or the Nexus 6. However, I was leaning more towards the T-Mobile Note 4 for use on AT&T. I have been reading through these forums, along with the AT&T Note 4 forums. The three major issues I have been reading on are:
1. Screen uniformity issues (apparently common among AMOLED panels) Many have complained about a pink tint or residue on certain portions of the screen when viewing whites. Others have also complained that certain sections of the screen are cooler and have more of a blue tint. I have read very few actually state they got perfect screens. These AMOLED issues seem to be more prevalent in the Black Galaxy Note 4s (the color I wanted, too). I have also noted that some are complaining about graininess in their displays. Why does one of the "best" displays on the market suffer from these issues?
2. Headphone output? Its been no secret that almost every Samsung Galaxy flagship had very low volume, but apparently the Note 4 takes it to a new level. The volume with headphones plugged in, when using the stock music app is so low, it apparently is half the volume of the iPhone 5S. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. I understand about volume mods and roms, but not everyone has time to mess around with that. I also refuse to carry around an iPhone and Note 4 just to get a good listening experience.
3. LAG? Apparently Samsung's TW is still lagging and stuttering just like its predecessors before it. Of course with the Note 4, "its not bad, and much improved", yet still there. When launching apps there are noticeable delays. Using the hangouts app produces quite a bit of stutter, and using the multitasking view.
I believe if anyone is going to drop $750+ dollars on a phone, they should not have to spend time "fixing" the above issues. I really hope that I am WRONG about these issues, because honestly, there really isn't much more to choose from when it comes to phones this year. The Nexus 6 display is lacking, and so is battery life. What's left? iPhone 6 Plus? Nah.

Yep got mine on preorder never had an issue with screen, if stock is bad no reason to mod download powerapp which is one of the best music players, go to settings and put outpt to the highest and promise to impress, and literally just downloading nova will get rid of most if an lag. Youll be fine and appreciate the phone more.

After reading the thread on the display issues, I was quite worried. It seemed rare to get a perfect display. Of course I am sure majority of people do not have perfect displays and just don't notice it. This is why I prefer IPS panels instead of AMOLED.
unless you suffer from OCD, ignore all that non sense and buy the damn phone; its the phone of the year, by a LARGE margin, period
No problems with the phone from me. Screen is perfect, volume is plenty loud (way louder than any iPhone), lag is a non issue.
This phone does everything and does them ask well. I do have a custom ROM on it, which make a difference. If you want to buy a phone and leave it stock you should look at a nexus 6 a Motorola X or an iPhone. This phone is way better rooted with a custom ROM.

Well rooting and flashing roms can be an amazing thing. It's just that I did that before with my S3 and S4 and I was always changing roms, never keeping anything lol. It also got annoying have to re-setup everything all the time when updates came. I think you could get into trouble by dirty flashing.
How is your signal reception? Do you use T-Mobile? How is the GPS accuracy?
From what I've seen personally and heard from reading it almost seems that the black n4's are more likely to have display issues........Racist !

Well if I could gather some respective opinions first before going out and spending $750+ then I'd rather go that route. Not too mention, if the phone does not work out for me, I'd have to pay T-Mobile a $50 restocking fee. So excuse me for using a "forum" the way it was designed.
Third party manufactures are not a bad thing, however, after using the S3 & S4, I have noticed a slow down or lag when it shouldn't be there, given the specs. I have read various reports of the Note 4 doing the same thing, so I figured I'd ask.

Using Tmobile Note 4 on AT&T. I get full LTE everywhere. I actually get faster speeds than the AT&T model on AT&T got.
Have absolutely NO GPS issues. I don't know where that complaint came from, I leave my location settings on this phone to "Device only" which means it doesn't use the WiFi or cell signal to locate me at all and have still never had any issues.
With the device on "high accuracy" it locates you instantly.
Not to mention the battery life on this thing is absolutely insane.

Thank you for your opinion. Can I ask when you bought the T-Mobile phone if you had service through them? I am reading that before the device is unlocked it first must be activated and used on its original carrier.

Lol, see it how you will im just stating the hard cold fact on the matter.
Point im trying to make is that EVERY single manufacturer will have the issue you just stated, thats the plain cold fact. Heck, even Nexus is having the complaints you are currently having.
Its a lottery my friend. If you are one of the unlucky ones you will end up with the unlucky device. If you want to nit pick at everything, you will end up with an unlucky device because you will always see something wrong.

The phone is great, it does not lag the way you are making it sound. I got zero screen issue and I'm satisfy with the sound of it...ITS LOUD. Unless you want your ears to bleed, the Note 4 is not for you. You want to use it as a boombox...the note 4 is not for you. It is smooth for what we KNOW to expect from samsung. They got so many things on here that needs to load and given the time they do and the tweaks I have on my phone, I'm satisfy and will forgive it. If you can't forgive it, than go grab an iphone or a nexus. We can bash on iphone all we want but their optimization is brilliant! They and google do so damn good job at it and make every other phone look like crap next to them (...nexus that is, im giving too much credit to icrap here lmao!) as far as "lag" is concern.
Also to make another note, most of the lag complain you see also deals with google apps. For some odd reason the only phone google apps (especially hangout) work flawlessly on are nexus devices, any other you will see lag. Nave samsung apps are FAR SUPERIOR in smoothness next to hangout. Using it make my phone feel like a cheap second rated phone

I appreciate that. You are right about every manufacturer having its issues. When I tried the iPhone 6 plus, it lagged too. But not as bad as my previous experience with Samsung devices. Perhaps "lag" isn't the right word. I guess the right word would be stutter. I always found the animations to be a tad jerky on Samsung devices, despite awesome specs. Hopefully its as improved as everyone here is making it out to be.
Its a shame though they don't make the headphone volume go louder. :/

Well considering best buy has them to demo and so does TMOBILE. I say hit the stores and you decide. So many threads about the phone not being perfect. Also every phone cost 500 plus so it not that big anymore. A smartphone comes with a smart phone price. U need to see for your self. I love it my boy hates it. It your money you need to go and see.

The only thing with going to Best Buy and T-Mobile is that they have demo versions running on the phone, which can slow everything down.
Honestly, you should just buy a note 4. Nothing else now or in the near future compares.
My headphones are too loud. If there is such a thing.
Screen is what everyone I show the phone notices. In a good drooling/jealous way.
I've never had a phone with less lag.

I'm on Verizon and I have an upgrade in a few weeks. I am between either the Motorola Droid Turbo or the HTC One M8. It seems like they both have their issues, making it hard for me to choose one. Here are my main concerns:
How does the phone feel while using it?
Does the ballistic nylon version have problems? I read the back of the phone can become screwed up.
Is the sound quality bad when using headphones? And are the speakers bad?
How is call quality? Does this phone have a good microphone?
How is the display? Are the colors bad?
How is the camera?
Can this phone be unlocked or rooted or is there at least a chance of it in the future?
I'd appreciate answers to these questions. Thank you.

1. phone feels great. Solidly built, buttons are nice and responsive. I use an Otterbox Commuter case but you don't really need to
2. No idea about the nylon, people said they really like it, i just prefer the kevlar
3. Sound quality and speakers are awesome; very loud. Sound quality is more based on the equalizer and app you're using when using headphones(for example, poweramp sounds 1000x better than using any other app, but its due to the equalizers and settings they have)
4. call quality is great. Microphone works perfectly fine. I havent had any issues and my house has a ****ty signal
5. Display is awesome. Colors are bright and vibrant. this whole nits being lower thing is garbage. I cam from an s3 which has higher nits than this, and this phones blows it out of the water.
6. Camera is decent. I don't use it that often but so far the pictures I have taken come out really nice. Some people say the shutter speed is slow, but they likely have HDR set to on or auto, so of course the shutter will be slower
7. Rooted/unlocked not as of right now, but it's been out for what, 3 weeks? Give it time and it will definitely be rooted/unlocked. There's already a bounty going out. You really don't need an unlocked bootloader but root would be ideal. All verizon and moto apps can be disabled giving you a stock android experience. I want root for gravity box but despite being an avid rooter/flasher, I see no reason to flash a new ROM.
Great phone...Noway I would get HTC ..Sounds like possibility of root just got better today...

Actually, I don't think the camera is that great. Try to take a photo of a piece of paper with nothing but text on it. The text in the photo will not be straight but curves.
Of course my camera of choice is a Canon EOS 60D DSLR.
Here is an example of what I am talking about:
The first yellow line shows that line of text almost straight. I can blame that on not keeping the camera perfectly level. While the second yellow line shows that line of text to be off by quite a bit. It gets worse the more text there is in the photo.

This answer helps nobody. Are you aware that many people arrive here via a google search? I also think people are smart enough to understand that comments in a device specific forum will be somewhat biased towards that device.

Yeah, and I have read reviews, but I posted this thread here to get a bigger range of opinions rather than judging certain aspects of the phone through a few reviews. Sometimes in a review there'll be a complaint that many others have not experienced or they may have exaggerated, or user error, etc. I want to take my purchase on the safe side.
Anyways, I'm deciding on the Turbo. Thanks to all who replied; I appreciate the responses.
I love my Droid Turbo. No issues at all
I came from an S3 too. I can say there may be a few Samsung tweaks that you'll miss. Sometimes Samsung goes overboard, but they also ADD features and options that stock Android doesn't have. But other than that and one bug that's driving me crazy, this is one amazingly awesome phone. I've been eligible for an upgrade for several months and was just waiting for the right phone. My main desires were all answered in the Droid Turbo: Fast Processor, at least 3GB RAM, battery that would last all day even with heavy usage, and a screen size that was large enough but not ridiculously big.
I have not been disappointed.

I went from a Razr M to a HTC One M8, to the Droid Turbo.
The ergo of the HTC is out of this world, for a large phone, one handed use was not really an issue. The Dot View case, gimmicky but it did work and it was nice to able to do some functions with it closed.
Call quality has been fine, signal is better than the M8 was, I didn't have 4g in my hobby room with it, I do with the Turbo.
Everything else has been echoed in this post. Remember, you have 14 days to take it back and yes, you'll have to eat the 35 bucks. Take it for a spin, I think you'll be surprised in a good way !
I went from the Galaxy Nexus to the Turbo with 64 gb of storage. EVERYTHING is much better on the Turbo, except two things: Screen Mirroring is terrible on the Turbo and no WiFI Hotspot without paying Verizon for double-dipping. If these two items are VERY important to you don't buy the Turbo.
Is it true that the ballistic nylon will start to fray eventually? I'm thinking of getting the kevlar backing because of that.

Don't see why that would be the case, in my opinion the Ballistic back with the raised metallic Droid emblem without the Verizon badging is far more stylish and unique.

Yeah, I'd definitely go for it if I hadn't heard of the nylon fraying for some. Plus the extra 32gb for $50 is a good deal.
Without a case I believe it will fray for sure in time, because it doesn't slide easy, but it also might keep you from dropping it or sliding out of a pocket...with a case is a moot point. the 64 gb is COOL. I didn't buy the Samsung 5 because 16 gb is not cool.
I'll just add my experience that the ballistic nylon version was way too slippery for me. I felt like I'd drop it all the time. I exchanged it for a black kevlar version and it's quite a bit grippier. I don't use a case so that may matter less to those who do.

Screen mirroring working 100% fine here via Chromecast. And you can't complain about the WiFi hotspot feature being an issue specific to the Turbo, that affects every single phone launched to date. It is against the terms of service of your contract to use a third party workaround or a root method to enable tethering. Not saying I haven't done it, not saying you will get caught or have any trouble, just that your contract explicitly states that it isn't allowed.
All of Verizon's plans for the last year or so have allowed tethering for no additional charge, and if you are stuck on an old legacy plan then it's your own fault for refusing to migrate to something more modern.
I resolved the screen mirroring, is no longer a problem, it required using Chromecast, it worked rather badly before I installed it. In regards to Hotspot if you want to pay for it buy the Turbo, if you don't; buy a Samsung phone. Good luck with your decision.
