I am now the owner of two Gears thanks to AT&T. I have an orange for everyday and black for business/formal events. I am starting to explore switching between the two. Anyone else connecting multiple Gears to one phone, yet?
When you use Gear manager to switch back and forth it has to sync with the gear each time. I switched using the settings>Bluetooth and gear manager shows the new one connected, but it doesn't have record of the apps that are installed.
I guess you would just make sure the same apps are on each watch.
Looking forward to feedback
Well, you can only connect one gear to a phone or one phone to a watch. Can't see it being easy to work with both :s

I also have two and connected them both is no problem even at the same time but it sometimes makes you restore on reconnect to other device. loose all but stock apps.
Update
I was mistaken. Do not use gear manager to switch between watches.
Go to Bluetooth devices and switch there. I have renamed each watch for identification.
When you switch and go into gear manager, you will find the apps are now the apps on the newly connected watch

Did you eve find a good solution! I have two gears and a Note 3. I am trying to find the correct way to get them to work without having to go through the Restore Process every-time I switch Gears. (I have tried using the Switch through Bluetooth Method) It is still asking to setup as new with option to restore.

Hey guys,
Yesterday I bought Galaxy Gear. I currently own Galaxy S3 that I would like to pair with Gear.
I'm on custom SlimBean ROM with Android 4.3. I have installed the APK Gear Manager that is floating around the forum here (around 17mb), it installs without the problem, but when it comes to pairing I get a little popup that some part of Samsung SDK is not supported and the connection is being broken. Did anyone else get it to work with S3?
I have time till next saturday to decide whatever I will keep it or not, maybe there will be a solution by then. I can always return it to the store.

update us if you manage to get it to work considering samsung said that it will pair with teh s3 once it updates to 4.3 :good:
sure, no problem, but my hands are tied at the moment, unless someone have some other idea how i could possibly pair it.
Can I ask does the watch display basic functions I.e time, camera etc ? Or is it stuck a the pairing icon?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
maybe there is a way to go further, but i don't see such option. it's stuck at pairing and only display battery left.
gear got gs3 and my gear paired without any issues. My gs3 is stock rom, downloaded the gear manager from Samsung app store and it all worked fine! There are some things that don't work - s voice, weather, can't install any new apps from Samsung app store but pretty much everytjing else works (calling, transfer of pics and videos, changing clock face, etc). Any questions, pls ask!
Rooted Stock Rom on my S3 and it paired fine with my 1st Watch (That went back to Best Buy, since I wasn't paying $300 until it was fully working - and my new one will be here tomorrow - had to take the 30% deal).
So it paires and the functions that worked, worked well ... Like the previous post - No apps / etc ... But Calls worked, pictures, etc

No, it's not rooted, I installed the earliest version of the manager and that one seems to be the only one that works. Today stupidly I went to Samsung app store and tried to install the new version... as the install wasn't working I deleted the version I had - and this was a mistake as new versions seem to be compatible only with 4.3. After searching this site, I've found the version that works again thankfully! so if you click here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484065&page=4 and install the app from the last post - this should work. Let me know how you get on.
for anyone curious, using this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910947 and this Gear Manager apk: http://depositfiles.com/files/pmgqxv9c5 will get you paired up with your Galaxy Gear.
Everything connected right up no problem.
The only issue is no notifications, which is the main reason I wanted this but its only a temporary issue. Hopefully.(c'mon 4.3 update :fingers-crossed
Camera, calls, even incoming calls, work fine, can change app settings and everything. I was even able to load GamboyColor AD and play some pokemon on it lol.
For those of you who have this problem, here is a potential band-aid:
When I installed the Galaxy Gear apk on my phone and tried to connect it to the Gear it would try to install 19 items / fail then try to connect to the watch, pair and then disconnect never actually finishing.
I finally got it working by going into the Gear Directory on my phone and running the APK's in that Directory using a file manager, the one which seems to have done the trick is "SAccessoryService_signed.apk", after running that it finally allowed gear to connect and stay connected.
Once you get gear connected you'll likely want some new apps, I installed several from here

I installed the signed.apk, but how do I actually run it? Mine still doesn't connect :/

Still having issues
SO, I got to my Gear this morning and tried this solution, but I am still having issues. I cant get through the setup and I keep getting "connection failed" even after I run the Signed APK. Anyone have any idea? I see others have it working so I must be doing something wrong.
I am on CM 10.2-20130920 which is Android 4.3.

Can't see that program even after I install the APK in the Gear folder. The only things I see that may be relevant are The Gear Manager APK and the Samsung Accessory Service in the All programs list in settings. I keep getting Bluetooth to connect on the watch (says connected for a second then goes to the spinning watch/device animation), but after a while of the animation on both the phone and watch a message on the phone comes up with "Can not connect". After that point the bluetooth connection seems lost and the Gear Manager asks to connect with the watch again.
SO, I figured it might be my CM 10.2 nightly build on my phone and installed the stable CM 10.1.3 build. Sadly, the same error is happening,:crying:
Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

Could your post SAccessoryService_signed.apk Im unable to locate it in my directory. Want to try to upgrade to 4.3 Liquid Smooth and see if installing this APK would do the trick because previously I was getting device not supported, but working on 4.2.2 ROMs
Hey guys just wanted some clarification before I go out and purchase one of these beautiful gears !
I own a Galaxy S4 currently running cm10.2 built from source.
Can anyone verify that using the supplied .apk from the OP, you have had success pairing up your gear with your S4 running cm10.2 and have all the main functions working ?
Can anyone please reply with a detailed response on what type of function's are working and what is not.
The only thing that work was making phone call. Notification, Weather, and svoice does not work.
Now if you install a stock 4.3 rom, everything works.

Hi Guys,
First to find SAccessoryService_signed.apk it is in the /sdcard/Gear directory.. It is downloaded by the gear manager software
Anyway I have found something else out too... once you run that apk, if you re-open the gear manager, it will download the next app and put it into that gear directory (it also deletes the old one)... if you keep doing this, you get through mose of the providers necessary. As of writing I have got through to SAmusicprovider_signed.apk which fails install and has left me stuck here.
I have tried this on a HTC One X running CM10.1 and a Samsung Galaxy Nexus running stock AOSP 4.3.
If I have an s4 with stock 4.2.2 which installs all ofthe apps automatically which means it is something that sammy has added to their version of android to get the stuff to install.
Will post logs if anyone is interested...
Cheers!

Gear Needs touchwiz elements in order to operate all functions such as shealth svoice and other elements. I have saw where others have got it to work somewhat but not fully. I can confirm with Gear 1 all hyperdrive roms work extremely well with gear.

Hello,
I have been looking around the forums and struggling with the galaxy gear i picked up today.
I have a verizon note 2, that is rooted and using a jellybean ROM. It appears that this ROM does not support NFC, and that looks to be the only way to install gear manager.
I have downloaded numerous 1.5 and 1.2 and 1.4 gear manager APKs from these forums, and have been able to set up gear manager on the phone but it appears to not be working so well. I cannot seem to get any notifications pushed to the gear, and cannot get the weather to show on the gear.
I was going to return the gear and just be done with it, but I am now wondering if anyone has any insight into whether or not I could get a simpler stock based ROM that enables NFC and has no conflict with the gear and my note 2?
I am using the stock messenger app, and no text messages come to the gear
Update
I contacted samsung to ask if there was any way to get the most recent gear manager without NFC and they said there was not. I am wondering if anyone can post a working APK, and if anyone can link me to a verizon note 2 rom that they are using and having no issues with the gear.
The phone calls go through without issue, but no text message or any other notification seems to be pushed through.

Regardless, why not simply install a stock samsung rom ? You can install the gear manager straight from the samsung apps store and your done ?

I am not sure how to find a stock rom that will work without causing problems. I just assumed the ROM did not support NFC as it was not working, the options are there in my settings.
Does NFC require the stock battery and back cover? I have an extended battery, but was able to find my stock battery without the cover and it would not connect.
I am currently downloading jeallybeans_b22 to flash and see if there are any issues - would you mind linking me to a rom that you think would be issue free?
Thanks for the help

I don't no dude exactly, Varys from phone to phone.. I remember reading in the past some aftermarket battery's prevent NFC from working.. which is more than likely your problem.
Also your not going to receive notifications unless you use a rom based on Samsung, otherwise you will be forced to use third party applications in order to receive notifications.

What, No its not because of root..
Dont over complicate things, its simply because your using a aftermarket battery.
Also you dont need nfc, you can manually connect the gear via bluetooth via the galaxy gear manager app.... ALTHOUGH I highly highly highly recommend you get a Samsung based rom !
No offence intended although you dont really seem like your very confident with android & know what your talking about, I recommend using a Samsung rom first until you understand how the gear actually works..

No offense taken at all, I have rooted every android device I have had but almost always run intro problems. I would definitely say I am not confident in this whole process. The problem I am facing now is that all of the roms in the verizon section for the note 2 are not really clear on what is close to stock and what is not
While my current rom is touchwiz based I am still trying to find one compatible with the gear.
When I said it was my fault for being rooted I just meant my fault for not understanding how to find a stock rom to revert to.
2 key ingredients to getting gear working are android 4.3 and touchwiz
nfc is only used to make connection easier, you can alwys just select to connect manually. I'm pretty sure nfc antenna is part of battery

Without downloading the gear manager apk from someone who posted it on XDA I could not get the phone to prompt anything and the connection failed.
After downloading the apk for gear manager I was able to get the limited connectivity set up. I am guessing this is because the ROM is not very compatible and I will try to find one that works better.
Thanks for the help guys, sorry for wasting time. I cannot find the OEM battery cover for the phone, just the OEM battery and neither work when trying to bump the cradle to it. What a silly way for samsung to deliver the download... I don't understand why there is no option for a download from them.

No, that is not how it works. You need the gear manager to connect and you just download this from the Samsung store (or I've posted all the apks). Anyway, nfc is just used to automatically pair devices and that is all, nothing else - it's simply less user interaction this way
EDIT: nfc looks to be part of the back cover (http://allaboutsamsung.de/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Note2_wireless_charging_2.jpg)

You can download gear manager directly from the app called "samsung apps", its considered bloat to some developers.. so it may be stripped out of the rom your using.

OK it's now fixed. I did it myself. (downloaded Samsung Tag Writer which wrote the missing data back onto the NFC part of the charging cradle.)
Just realized there is a specific Gear 2 Neo forum... they should combine them. How confusing! Anyhow...
I used the S-Voice option once on my Gear2 Neo, then when I was going to use it a few hours later but it no longer works. I hit the Mic to send a talk command and it does the circle connecting icon, then says No response from server. Try again.
Anyone know why that is happening or how to fix it? Did some searching and haven't seen anyone else mentioning it.
Whoops, I should say I have the latest version of everything to my knowledge and am on a GS5. I check for updates for the Gear, Gear Manager, and GS5 and all up to date.

Silly me, S-Voice had updated and wanted me to re-go through tutorial or skip it. I hit skip and boom! Good to go.
I'm having the same problem with my gear 2. I I had s voice working before, after an update recently it doesn't seem to work. It just says Connecting... And times out

Just read up on this issue and had the same issue with s voice not connecting to the server.
Well I resolved this issue by uninstalling the Samsung gear app, and then going to the Samsung App Store and redownloaded it. Then it went through all the tutorial crap again and it reset my watch as well installed updates and a couple service packs. After reconnecting my watch to my phone again, it appears my s voice is working again and can send messages and tell it to do stuff again.
I also recommend installing flesky messenger as it has a full keyboard for your watch so if you're like me and fat fingers stuff it'll automatically try to tell what you're typing.
Currently on a Verizon samsung galaxy s5 on straight talk with a samsung galaxy gear 2 neo smart watch (El cheapo tizan operating system one).
Hope this helps.

The issue is after I upgraded to the latest version of android on my phone 4.4.4, gear manager stopped working. now my gear is rooted and running null_ and i had gear manager running with ATN on the previous version of android for my phone i believe i was using GM 1.6.something and after the last android update it stopped working it and ATN, so for a while now Ive been using the gear sms server and client app i found but i miss being able to use the other things that gear manager aloud me to do. so my question to anyone that can figure it out, is what do i need to do to get this functionality back? now im no noob to this kind of stuff Ive just hit a brick wall and cant seem to get anything to work now. and a little info i forgot is gm stopped working after the update so i uninstalled to do a reinstall and now it wont load up says install failed. now i went though the whole proses of tearing down gm and installing all the apps and gm addon that had it working before like in the nexus how to. and that used to work but not now. so i am at a loss... as much as i like my gear this is proving to be a head ache. and i know i will be switching to moto 360 when it finally comes out. but i hate owning useless tech. so any advice or links would be very much appreciated.
Hey. One thing you can do is put the Gear over to Tizen and just install the Gear Manager like usual. I had that setup working fine on my G2 unrooted and the majority of things worked fine. Never had a connection problem, just weather and s-voice didn't work.
Try it and see. If not, follow the guide to go back to Android and do everything from scratch. Good luck.

Nope. I just made sure that I uninstalled every Gear Manager component, reset the Gear(in Tizen), downloaded the latest Gear Manager and started the sync. I can't see what difference there'd be between Moto and LG in the process. That's all I ever did with my Gear. I never had Android on it so I don't know if there's a different way of doing things.
Good luck
