Verizon OTA VS98012B don't lose ROOT - Verizon LG G2

Just read on Droid-life that the second update for LG G2 for Verizon has been approved. We aren't getting 4.3 just yet, but a few fixes. I was looking forward to fixing camera issues and that annoying jittery touch screen. Either way if you don't want to take a chance of losing root, tethering or/and if you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP and CWM) then you probably want to wait until the update get broken down so we can apply the update without losing ROOT or custom recovery.
I used Titanium Backup to FREEZE
"Software update MUC 6.4.1_B02-LG"
hit my blog for other LG G2 related stuff.

That's always the rule of thumb... ota = the devil. I always wait for rooted ota zips for any device. If you don't and you ota and lose root and your first born everyone will just say "Never ota. Hopefully they find a new exploit"

You can root and install custom recoveries now on 12B.
24A Kitkat is released too. So you'll want to root before updating because kitkat hasn't been rooted yet, on any device.

24A is posted in Verizon Dev.
I'm pretty sure 4.2.2 can be rooted. Its 4.4 that hasn't been rooted yet, on any device. The G2 is one of the lucky few because updates don't kill root.

So being that I have only had the g2 less than a month..and I'm not super familiar with adb, is there a better guide to get root on Verizon?
I have the root on any device, but can't get an adb window to "check devices"
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Well you have to make sure the right driver is installed and adb drivers are good. Check USB Debugging. Put USB Connection to ETHERNET, do ADB DEVICES in a command prompt. You should get a popup on the phone asking permission to allow adb.
Pretty easy.

[Q] Does OTA RootKeeper work on Android 4.3?

Hi guys,
1. I have a rooted, stock 4.2.2 Nexus 7 and I use Chainfire's SuperSU app.
2. As you may know, Chainfire just updated SuperSU to v1.44 in order for it to work on Android 4.3.
My question is this:
My device hasn't taken the Android 4.3 OTA update yet; when it does come, is it possible to use supercurio's Voodoo OTA RootKeeper app to preserve root, since it will be keeping Chainfire's latest SuperSU?
In Play store, voodoo ota rootkeeper says it is not updated for 4.3 and will not keep root.
Ah, the only place I haven't checked
Thanks though!
I can confirm it doesn't work.

What about chainfire's super su pro with OTA survival? He did recently update it to 1.44 to address some 4.3 bugs.

I had that prior to my OTA. My OTA failed, but SuperSU still alerted me that it saved my root after I forced a reboot.
Just reflash the latest SuperSU zip, no big deal.

I've tried updating from OTA but I get the dead android error message in the flashing process. I had the device rooted and DPI set to 160 but I changed it back to 213 prior to trying to update via OTA. I also removed root via the Full Unroot of the chainfire SuperSU. Any ideas why I'm getting this ? The error i'm getting looks like http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G-zGeRL92...6FM/s320/Android+Factory+Reset+Tutorial+2.jpg

Fixed it myself. Downloaded the update from the dedicate thread [REF] Nexus 7 Stock OTA URLs and tried to sideload it with ADB and noticed I had an error message regarding the checksum of debuggerd. So I found a debuggerd with matching checksum ( from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379430&page=2 ), put it in place and everything was able to update. The update process ended in a bootloop but that's another story which got a happy ending: updated via fastboot with the stock image from the Google repository. More details on how to update here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...-to-android-4-3-jwr66v-and-root-it-right-now/ - Scenario 2)

Well, for one thing it would mean blocking ads would be easy and that's the major source of revenue for Google, so I can understand why they wouldn't want to do that.

Are you sure this works?
I mean: Flashing a custom recovery like TWRP with a toolkit and then flashing the right SuperSu with it.
Should work fine.. Has for many others.... However, TWRP is probably better for doing it.

How to root & prepare for custom rom?

I just ordered a Moto X Verizon, and I will be rooting it and flashing Eclipse rom onto it. Is there any reason not to take all the OTA updates from Verizon, and then root and do safestrap or? Not sure how it works. I

[Q] Possible To Flash Custom Recovery to KitKat Yet?

I seem to have gotten over my head here being fairly new to android in general but wanting to try out all the new stuff lol.
Basically, I updated my LG G2 with the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant but after updating proceeded to screw up a few system files in the process. The kicker is I didn't know that installing this update was going to remove my TWRP custom recovery!
So now... It seems I am stuck with a buggy kitkat and cannot reinstall it because
- my custom recovery is gone and it seems that I can't reflash it do to my being on kitkat (24a)
- Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant won't upgrade the phone again because in it's view I have the latest and greatest.
- using factory reset doesn't seem to be fixing the underlying issue of system files being corrupted but simply wipes user data and apps.
What am I to do? Am I doomed to have a buggy phone until CWM or TWRP support LG G2 so I can install a ROM?
Or is there something I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
If you still have root, you can use this, AutoRec - KitKat Recovery Installer
http://forum.xda-developers.com /showthread.php?t=2715496
If you do not have root it would be best to start fresh by following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45694605
Then use IORoot to root your phone, thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48709232
After rooting use AutoRec-Kit Kat Recovery Installer and you will be good to go.
Hope all this helps.

At&t Lg Flex D950 Upgraded to Kitkat with Root retained.

I have at&t LG Flex, rooted and than updated to kitkat, surprised was when it updated to Kikat and root was retained, I used all applications that require supersu and work like charm.
Follow this, If you did not upgraded root it with ioroot and don't unroot it, take OTA update and you will keep the root.
If you upgraded, downgrade it via lgflashtool method, root with ioroot and update ota and you will keep the root..Good Luck

I was unable to try it out last night, ever since upgrading to kit Kat i can no longer choose which mode to connect (usb only, mtp, etc) so after flashing back the problem followed me which prevented me from running ioroot successfully. Luckily i had ordered a new flex yesterday from AT&T after their service center confirmed something was borked during the update, it'll be here Monday. Can't do anything till then.

[Q] bricked vs98024a

OK here's the deal, IOroot25 method, rooted flawlessly. Made an attempt to install openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-vs980 via flashify which forced phone into reboot. now stuck in lg boot with secure boot error with a boot certification verify, followed by auto-mount of device showing contents of multiple drivers within the vs980 I can access download mode but not recovery. Unfortunately while in download mode ubuntu 14.04 doesnt recognize device through adb or fastboot. verified both adb and fastboot are operational with my nexus7 device. I also checked android51 rules for allowance of vs980. I have read through xda dev threads for 3 days (night and day) trying to figure this thing out without any luck. I would really like some assistance here you guys.... lol anything would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Looks like the Freedom tool is the way to go on 24a. But until bootloader is fully unlocked, we will continue to have stability issues. Every ROM is working off of the Loki patch. Now I'm not nockin loki it's a good work around, but for stability issues I'm gonna stay rooted stock debloated. This G2 xposed module is decent, and fairly stable for good customization http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549923
