it is possible to lock it without a backup, is your camera not working anymore ?

You can try flashtool, BLU option tries to relock it if it's unlocked, theres a good chance you will brick your device!
Have fun

Are you sure this is good and/or informative advice? I thought a locked bootloader not finding valid keys in the TA will refuse to ever function usefully again - no boot, no fastboot, no flashmode, nothing, totally bricked, and no way to convert it back to unlocked and get your phone back.
I would like to know if I am wrong about any of that. And... it seems that I was:
** Correction - it is Ok to relock the bootloader without having the pre-unlock data in the TA partition
** Flashing in data from any other TA partition (some other phone) seems certain to brick the phone though.

I've never read about those damages but I read things like the known camera bug.
I unlocked my Z1 on .290 - the Sony release which fixed the problem (4.3). I flashed a Recovery and rooted it with it and my device is working like it was with a "untouched" ROM.
That's all I know.
We could wait for a dev to answer deeper questions.

Yes this absolutely fine and is what I did with my Z1, ie do not unlock until after the 290 update is applied - you will see that advice on the Sony unlock website. However if you want a TA backup you need to do that before unlocking as the unlock process will wipe the keys, and you also need root in order to make that copy. (let me know if I am wrong about that)
My process was to root on earlier firmware, copy the TA, update to .290, then unlock. After unlocking full root on .290 is easy with a custom kernel and everything is good: unlocked, rooted *and* working camera.
But you *will* need a copy of the pre-unlock TA partition to regain any of the functions that use the DRM keys if you decide to relock the bootloader later.

It is impossible to get the DRM keys back, and there is no gain from relocking without them, all you're doing is locking down the bootloader without enabling BIONZ, etc, but you can certainly run a stock system if you want.

Hello, yesterday I downgraded to rooteable 4.2.2 rom in order to backup TA partition. Once I had backup, I updated to 4.3 (290) and unlocked bootloader, then flashed recovery. With recovery was easy to flash superSu. Now I have "stock" rom with root and unlocked bootloader, but I realized that x-reality wasn't warking anymore (because of the DRM keys loss).
I tried to recover TA partition, but I caused a soft-brick, wich I only could solve flashing a 290 ftf through flashtool, but I lost root. My question is: It is possible to have root and DRM keys (TA partition restored)??
Thank you very much.

So, apart from losing x-reality and some Sony apps functionalities (which I dont care). Do you lose something else? I heard about losing bionz processor, but camera still works, then I dont know how far this is true.
The incompatibility problem of root and restored TA partition, is because flashing recovery (which modifies kernel) or supersu.apk it self?
Thank you VERY much!

You loose bionz, but not x-reality. I unlocked my bootloader and I have x-relity enabled.
Some ROMs won't have working camera, for example: android 4.4 KitKat ported from xperia z ultra GPe, and some other ROMs.

I can see that the x-reality option is still on menu, and you can enable/disable it, but it doesn't work. Before, I could see in the first second of picture showing how x-reality improves the image (its an effect that can be seen with the naked eye), this is not happening now. By the way, its for sure that bionz stop working? How could I take pictures without it?
Thank you

Not sure about bionz, but I guessed it as I had the x-relity option enabled. I can't tell if it works or not as I don't have camera (I'm using ported 4.4)
It would be nice of someone confirmed it.

Correct me if i am wrong.
Bionz is a service which improves the pictures after a shot, isn't it ?
Bionz and X-Reality are things u can't detect that easy like "oh that effect is from X-Reality" or something else.
I thought the main reason for not working cameras on other roms was that the dev's didn't apply those 4.3 changes :S

Bionz it's a image processor that includes xperia Z1, it process the pictures taken instead the cpu. I dont know if it's easy to detect if it's working or not. But in the case of x-reallity it's very simple, when you open a picture in Sony gallery app, you can see how the picture "improves" quality in the first second. It is no so evident in all pictures, but can be detected by a naked eye, as I do.
My only doubt is about bionz processor, I already know that I loss x-reality. But I want to be SURE if bionz processing is also lost. I want to have full root (with unlocked bootloader), and have bionz enabled. I dont care x-reality or Sony apps.
Thank you very much

Not true. If you have a TA backup, install .290, unlock bootloader, install a recovery, root, reflash stock boot partition, restore TA partition, you will end up with a booting, rooted, .290 installation.

[Q] Confused about keeping DRM & BE2

Hi there, ive came all the way here from the Defy turf and im really confused about flashing my new xperia z. ive tried my best reading the tutorials but it seems to be alot harder to flash the xperia z with proper backup, i mean i used to flash my Defy pretty much everyday without worrying much.
So my question is very basic.. btw I have root my xperia z through the "[Exploit by: goroh_kun & huhka_com]" method, and the bootloader is unlocked.
1. Is it possible to backup my unlocked stock Xperia Z with DRM & BE2? i know there are both twrp and cwm, but ive heard that once I "flash" my phone I will loose everything even with the SD card... (i mean when u talk about flash, there are tons of file types u can flash such as img, rar, zip etc and also tons of ways to flash, so which way to flash is the best without loosing eveything?)
And if yes, is there a step by step guide about how to use the flashtool? (i know there are million posts about what a flashtool is, but what i need is a step by step on how to install/flash cwm or twrp on an unlocked stock xperia z with DRM & BE2.) I mean I would like to be able restore if I dont like the custom roms.
2. does upgrading from the Sony update wipe out all data? i mean for the future 4.2 update can I just update without loosing from what I have at the moment (an unlocked and root stock xperia z)?
sorry to ask all these basic questions, but ive been searching alot with no clear answers...
thanks!:good:

uh bro. as soon as your bootloader is unlocked, DRM keys are GONE FOREVER. Unlocking your bootloader wipes everything too. by everything i mean your photos, music etc as well.
secondly, some updates might wipe data, and some don't

thanks for the reply. but i dont really understand, because I still have BE2 and track ID working, how do I check if I still have my DRM keys? i know i have an unlocked bootloader through *#*#7378423#*#* but i dont remember unlocking my phone apart from using the [Exploit by: goroh_kun & huhka_com] method to root my XZ. Can a XZ come unlocked from a Sony Retail store?

You're not confusing unlocked and unlockable are you?
The only way to unlock the bootloader that I'm aware of involves getting an unlock code emailed to you from Sony via their official unlocking website.
While the bootloader is unlocked you will not be able to update to a new official Sony ROM either OTA or via their provided PC/Mac software tools.
Locking & unlocking the bootloader is explained clearly here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153261
The bootloader will be locked on all new, unopened XZs
regardless of place of purchase, a phone purchased from Sony will (should) be carrier unlocked however.

nope, recoveries dont back up your drm keys.
you have to use the Backup TA tool that was posted, this one

Remember, ALWAYS, MD5 sum check before flashing, flashing someone else's or corrupted TA will HARD BRICK your device,

But - maybe if someone could confirm that X-Reality will stay after unlocking and using stock/stock based ROM.

Many users saying about issues when unlock BL even on 4.3. When we will unlock BL and do not missing anything?
I think we have to wait new year when custom roms will find the way.

Things like X-Reality aren't easily replicated, otherwise they won't need to wipe the related keys. However, at certain times, I found the over-sharpening of X-Reality bothersome, and I switched it off.
Anyway, I don't see any issues with keeping my bootloader unlocked. I really don't miss anything, and I doubt most people would notice something's missing till they're told about it.

I don't know of any programs, I simply use dd to backup and restore, but I'm guessing any program that does that is simply a script that uses dd.
I never saw the advantages of X-Reality in photos, only saw it in videos, and I can't see it anymore.
Restoring the TA doesn't need flashtool, adb is just to make terminal access easier and transfer the backup, technically you could just use a terminal emulator on the Play Store and upload the backup to Google Drive without using a PC. You just need to be rooted.

Restoring TA that mean restoring the phone to factory state, that mean I can't do that if I am on Custom Rom with Custom Kernel.
Factory state I will need just for warranty or I have to choose what I want, Custom Rom with Custom Kernels without X-Reality and BIONZ or Custom Rom with Stock Kernel with X-Reality and BIONZ?

What is this you go on about BIONZ?
What, your camera now takes raw photos or what?
How does your camera work if your image processor supposedly doesn't?
If you manage to flash your way to a custom kernel and rom, how hard is it to go back to stock and then shove your DRM keys back in there?

BIONZ processing and X-Reality maybe do not influence much the functionality. I am just careful do not lose some pieces which I will need in the future but the only thing what people are saying is that I need the DRM for restore to stock.
Like I said, why I should go back to stock? Just for warranty, who cares! In this DRM keys is something what I have to keep?

Rooting is it really worth it?

Hi I am new to super smart phones like the z1, I'm the type of person to want to hack things and make them beret but I'm also the type of person everything goes wrong for. I want to know if it really worth rooting my phone what I would gane and if it worth the risk,? Thanks

Some of the Benefits of Rooting:
1. Easily backup your apps + data to your Ext sd card (no PC required)
2. Remove bloatware (pre-installed carrier apps that you cant remove without root)
3. Full customization of your xperia z1. Examples: change your navigation bar layout, add 3 dot menu bar, customize your status bar, assign different actions to your hardware buttons, increase/decrease height of your navigation bar etc
4.Flash custom ROMs and kernels (if your bootloader unlocked)
5.Overclokking.
6.Improve Battery life with Frequencies and Governors.
7.Full access to your System phone.
8.Modified build.prop to make uncompatible, compatible apps.
9...and more...

First question is what version of firmware you are on. To get a fully functional root on 4.3 firmware (with write to system ability) you need to unlock the bootloader first.
You can have a partial root on 4.3 that will still allow use of Titanium Backup or Xposed Framework. To get root you need to use Flashtool to downgrade to old 534 firmware. Than root with vroot (check out my channel for video). Than install dual recovery. Once you have root and recovery flash a prerooted rom. I would highly advise using monxdified rom.

Than root with vroot (check out my channel for video). Than install dual recovery. Once you have root and recovery flash a prerooted rom. I would highly advise using monxdified rom.

When you go to Settings>About Phone under Build Number you will get the firmware that you are on. To root the phone you need to downgrade to .534 firmware. This place is to ask questions, but there is a search function for a reason. When you ask the same question for 100th time you just flood the forum. Your question on why you should root has been answered. If you want to find out how to do it read on the respective threads.

I did a backup of TA partition, then I updated to 4.3 (290) and unlocked bootloader in order to flash TWRP and flash SuperSu. All was nice, except for x-reality didn`t work (which i dont care so much) but I didn't know if BIONZ camera image processor stop working too.
This is my only concern. I want to know if its possible to have unlocked bootloader and root without loosing BIONZ processor. I tried restoring TA partition while unlocked/rooted, but it became in a soft-brick which I only could solve flashing a ftf.
Thank you very much!

When you unlock the bootloader you loose the DRM keys.Technologies such as X-reality Engine or Bionz will not work with bootloader unlocked.
When you restore your TA do it on the same firmware that you did the backup on. There have been issues reported when trying to restore backup from 4.2.2. on 4.3

But it's possible to have a working camera without bionz working? (such it happens in 4.3 after unlocking bootloader).
I can only do TA backup in 4.2.2 (534 or 257) because are the only rooteable versions. And I only can unlock bootloader in 4.3 because it's the only version which doesn't lose camera functionality. How it's supposed to be root and restore TA in 4.3?
Thank you.

The camera works on 4.3 when bootloader is unlocked. You are going to loose bionz and x-reality. You cannot relock the bootloader on 4.3 if you want to have a functioning root. It's either one or the other. When you restore TA you will relock the bootloader.

go to the cross device development, there is a mod on how to restore the good quality without the DRM keys.
it works for me, just follow the steps as they are.
(when u need to install a kernel with recovery on laters steps, install doom kernel via fastboot using flashtool)
hope i helped.

he lost his DRM keys, SO even with a locked bootloader the camera will still be the same as with an open bootloader.
he didn't backup his DRM, so he can't restore them after locking up the bootloader, your solution doesn't help.

It wasn't a solution I was just saying. I prefer to keep to LB. Try DRM fix thing. I have heard it good.

Proximity sensor always enabled

Hi guys, I've repaired my Z3+ but now the proximity sensor stays always on so on phone call the screen stay black even if I press the power button.
Is there a way to disable the sensor so I can enable and lock screen on call just by the power button? I'm seeing some app on the play store but I prefer a tips from you before make some other damage.
If it's possible without root, but if the only solution need root (so unlock the bootloader) I'll do it.
Thank you
Up
have you tried flashing the phone?

you can flash the phone with the correct version and region, just select flash system only, you won't lose any of your data, i did that several time for testing mods, don't forget to backup TA partitions if your BL is locked, just in case :highfive:
P.S: you don't need to unlock bootloader to flash the system partition

p.s:
1. download the correct firmware version and region for your phone
2. in the firmware selector in flashtool, under "sin" section, check everything except system. and under misc TA, check everything.
3. leave all the other check boxes UNCHECKED

Why back up TA if he is locked bootloader? As far as I know flashing .ftf file with flashtool doesn't affect TA partition. Am I right? I have made my all flashing with flashtool by selecting all wipes in wipe section. BTW I am locked bootloader Z3+ E6553 .305 firmware

How did you dare unlock your bootloader? photo quality, image enchanments were same after you restored your TA back up? Because once I tried to unlock my old Z1 bootloader, my phone really f.. up even if I restored my TA back up. I had regret to unlock it, so I'm really scared to unlock it again

well and awesome guy made this :highfive: :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
everything works perfect, just when there's OTA updates, i gotta download the whole ftf file and flash via flashtool, but that's not a big deal
My Z3+ got the same problem. Proximity sensor was always on.
Sent it to SONY repair center, they did a recalibration.
I'm just curious how can i do it myself? Where is this option to recalibrate proximity switch?
