Use original Samsung USB cable. Charging and data pins are different.
Cheap USB cables will only charge the phone, but you'll have no data connection.

Do you have the right drivers? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling them?
I suggest you go throwing the connections thread all over again.

When you connect the phone to the computer do you hear Windows specific USB device connection sound? If you do, then the computer sees something connected, but doesn't recognize the device. As BWolf56 said, check again your drivers. If there is no reaction when you connect the phone to the PC, then it's either the cable or phone's micro USB port. Also, try different USB ports on the computer. Use the ones to the back on desktop computers, not on the front panel. Good luck!

Does it detects it when it's simply powered on?
I think you don't have the drivers (or right drivers).

I highly doubt it. CWM wouldn't delete something that hurt itself.
Last thing I can think of is checking your usb port's and cable's data pins, perhaps they're damaged.

gamfunny,
U could also try one of my Heimdall One Clicks. See here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3
Heimdall uses different usb drivers. There is a Read Me file included in the downloads, with full instructions. I would suggest u have a Jig (u can make or buy one easily) just in case u need a way to get into download mode and the button combo won't work.

[Q] I am stuck in infinite boot, please help.

I was running on cognition and I decided to apply a speed kernal. I did, but I was not aware that it wasn't compatible with froyo. Now my phone shows the AT&T thing, says some weird techno voice thing, then restarts the process. I have tried holding volume up and volume down and power in order to get to recovery menu and it doesn't work. I have tried syncing with my computer, but it wasn't set on debugging beforehand so odin does not recognize it. I have tried everything I can think of yet to no avail.(spelling?) I really like my captivate and I could not bear to part from it. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using ADB to get into download mode. The only way to fix this will be to reflash stock and start over. You could also use Odin one click to flash back to stock as I dont thing debugging needs to be on for the download mode to work

Do not panic, did you pull the battery when the voices were going, that was voodoo installing and is normal.

I have tried getting into recovery again, but it goes through the cycle no matter what.
First: I downloaded the USB drivers from the Samsung Website and installed them.
Second: I downloaded Odin once click
Third: I take the battery out of my phone along with the sim card and micro SD card. Then I replace the battery
Fourth: Open Odin and plug in the USB sync cord
Fifth: I hold down the volume up and volume down buttons on the phone an insert the USB sync cord.
Sixth: A droid is pictured sweeping inside of a yellow triangle.
Seventh: I wait
Then after that, Odin doesn't recognize the phone.
Are you using the original cord that came with phone? Are you using a desktop or laptop? have you tried different usb ports? Have you tried the drivers on the odin thread?

Tried with different machine and reinstalled drivers and still nothing.

Its not only about the machines, its also about the USB cable and USB slot, you need to isolate the problem by way of elimination....get a hold of another original samsung USB Cable to isolate that is not the cause and than examine your Phone USB slot for damage/mislaigned pins ...you can try moving the usb plug to see, if connection is being established

Assuming you did not just buy any compatible cable, much to my regret, I myself have bought and found unusable .
and you have tried the Quick Guide
If phone is not being detected of a sudden (Quick Guide)
1. Reboot PC after a power cord pull and Reboot Phone after a Battery Pull , try USB connection
2. Try using a different Samsung USB cable (must be sumsung and nothing else)
3. Try a different USB port (use USB slots at the back of PC)
4. Try on a lap top or different PC
5. Try install nexus drivers - needed for ICS firmwares
6. Make sure you don't have fast charge on.
Trick : Putting your Phone into download mode and connecting it with USB cable to PC will do it automatically. Meaning drivers will be installed by windows If there are none.
Frankly, these works for me all the time, so I am a bit clueless as to why you are unable to. I mean losing USB connection is pretty common, happens every now and than.
You should also try switching off WIFI , reboot the phone, reboot the PC, start Odin and than plug in the phone ( this worked for some)
Since the USB is trying to connect but not recognized as to what it is, you should try again, this time using device manger as mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27205737&postcount=4571
thats all I can think of
Finaly solved my problem!

[Q]Samsung Captivate bricked?

Recently, I was updating my new Captivate using Kies Mini and the update failed, I flashed a couple of ROMs using Odinoneclick and after a couple of tries, I ****ed up my phone, I got it to a point where it would go through a boot loop and eventually get to the GB rom I installed but even that barely worked. Now I finally got my phone into download mode (actually the screeen with the pic of the phone then the triangle then the computer) but my phone wont be detected by my laptop (as in no message pops up as I plug it in) so I can't do an Odin Oneclick to stock 2.1. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance

If you installed Heimdall, Odin won't work on the same USB port. I assume you already tried deleting and reinstalling your drivers?
The only thing that worked for me when that happened before was using a different USB port and finaly flashed KK4 through Odin. If you have access to another pc, that would probably fix your connection problem as well (as long as that pc has the needed drivers).

Well then you don't have that many options left. If I were you, I'd keep trying to delete/reinstall drivers (of course, pc restart), swapping USB port and try both Odin and Heimdall (remember that Odin won't work on the same USB port as Heimwall installed his drivers on). Perhaps, using a different usb cable would work too. After that, the only thing I can think would be to use a different pc.
Sometime it's a mix of those things that will make it work, our cappys are quite capricious lol.

Idk about most likely...but like i said, if u have exhausted all other means, then it is worth trying.
I personally found several at a Dollar Tree store over a year and a half ago. I use one of them all of the time instead of the one that came with the phone, because that samsung cable just stopped workin for me just outta the blue. It happens. Usb debug doesnt matter. Download mode works either way. If you cant boot normal to activate it, you can still flash new fw through Odin.
Open task manager and kill all process with kies and try again.
Sometimes they interfere each other.

USB 1.0 to 2.0 has the same standard - a set of to wires that hast to handle 5V+ (and max 1.8A with dedicated chargers, if you use USB 2.0 and especially MicroUSB-B slot on the 2nd side) and ground, and 2 wires for data (+ Data and - Data). Micro-USB has another 5th wire to check, if host or slave connection method is used. Technically all USB cables are interchangable.

Yes, in theory they're all the same but they do come in different qualities and it's a well known fact that changing usb-cable can be the differens for a successful flash.

In that case I had the luck to use only good cables, I never had any problem besides cases, where the cable was broken, so the contacts were not always closed. But this was a problem with normal USB connection, too, so I got rid of it anyway.
U think so but its has diff quality so u need to use original cables use and see what I really mean

usb problem

My htc one usb will not connect to any computer anymore for some reason.
It just says the device is not recognized and has malfunctioned.
I have htc sync installed with drivers.
I am rooted and s-off'ed with insertcoin rom on.
Is there anyway to get back to stock without usb.
Help would be great as i'm a bit lost now.
Thanks in advance...

It's a driver problem on your pc.... are you using windows 8.1 preview?
i'm using xp on all 3 of my computers. my one x connects fine. i all drivers installed including adb.
it wont connect in bootloader, fastboot or recovery either.
Ok i have looked at the device id and it comes up with this in fastboot USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&4091F22&0&2
Now i have looked in the usb drivers and this id is not there , so it looks like a driver problem
How can i get this driver with the id in, as i have downloaded many drivers but with no luck.

Uninstall HTC sync and drivers. Reconnect phone, and it should automatically re-install sync manager and drivers. If it does not, however, you need to manually install the drivers. Also, make sure your drivers are up to date. Installing the android sdk might not be a bad idea either.
Thanks for the reply. Tried everything even fresh pc setup . Something in my phone is wrong and cannot get any recognition from it . It shows usb fastboot then changes to ac charging . I have checked in usb drivers and that id is not there so it will not let me install manually either.

Maybe a factory reset of your phone would help. I know that's a hassle, but it might reset or reconfigure whatever was lost or corrupted along the way.
Have done that thanks. Flashes different roms also .. can a different firmware be flashed through terminal emulator. Cannot even mount phone storage through usb. It just keeps alternating between unknown device and nothing.

Wow. Here's a hail mary then. Let the battery run out. Download stock RUU. Connect to PC, and see if fastboot usb comes up. If yes, boot into recovery, and flash RUU. Start from scratch.
I did try that to be honest. Is there anything special I need to know about doing that ..do I let the phone charge fully or anything before I try fastboot. Thanks for your help.

No, let the battery drain completely. Then reconnect it. As soon as anything on the phone shows up (normally the charging sign) get into bootloader. Boot to recovery and flash the RUU. Of course, it's all contingent on recovery being able to read usb, which it should (recovery uses different port and drivers than boot or oem).
Thanks I will give that a go. If that doesn't work is there an update.zip or img I can flash through hboot that will return the phone to stock. ?

If that doesn't work, you could try downloading a zip of your stock, renaming it update.zip (or anything.zip, really), and flashing that. But I'm pretty certain that you'd have to use adb to flash that through recovery too. Good luck with it all, and I hope you get back on track!

To test this, plug your usb cable into the wall charger and see if it charges. If it does, it's working. If not, if you have another micro usb cable, try that. If it still doesn't work, then I would contact HTC about what your options might be (new phone, new usb cable, etc.). Good luck.

Connect the phone to your pc. Cycle through all the different boot modes, boot, bootloader, and recovery. Do you hear any sound from the pc indicating it's picking up a device? If so, it's working, it's just not showing up while in android connected to pc, which would indicate an issue with drivers on your pc. If a sound happens during boot to recovery, leave it on recovery and get into adb mode on pc and attempt to flash the RUU. As soon as it's flashed completely, disconnect it from pc, completely uninstall ANYTHING having to do with HTC, android or 3rd party drivers. Then, reconnect the phone to your pc, and see if it auto installs the drivers and shows.
I have tried everything you have suggested . Even fresh install of xp on pc . Then installed htc sync from htc website . Plugged phone in , but still won't recognize phone . I get no usb connected icon on phone either . It just charges and get usb malfunctioning error on pc . I cannot use external usb drive on phone either . The phone recognizes it as a charger with an error saying that the charger has a fault . Thanks for your help so far .

Well, I can't think of anything else that would help. I think you should contact HTC and see if they've had other issues similar to yours, or if they can help you, but it sounds like your phone's usb is defective. If your phone came unlocked, you should be able to send it and receive a new one. Other than that, I really have no more suggestions. Best of luck.
