DraStic DS Emulator on the P990 - LG Optimus 2x

So, I read all over the DraStic forums and even on google play that TEGRA 2
processors are not compatible whit the emulator... I can confirm this because
before I used to test both the demo version and the pirated full version from
aptoide on my P990 which has the TEGRA 2.
Both version always showed a black screen and force closed instantly no matter
what, So today after a few months I tested the demo again and... It worked...
The official forums still say that TEGRA 2 is not compatible and yet it works on
my P990, A bit fearful I bought the full version because I like auto updates and it
worked like a charm too!
Maybe it has something to do whit the kernel I'm using or something random...
Anyway, I'm using Tonyp's "The ROM" build 26 and "Kowalsky Kernel" 27 exp
alpha 14 (the 3.0 + one), For anyone who feels like trying his luck!

It doesn't work for me. KK 100p5.

I think is the app not working.
It doesn't work to me too on my S3 i9300
Inviato dal mio GT-I9300 utilizzando Tapatalk

the latest version works well for me, I've tried GTA Chinatown Wars, thanks for the heads up.

Well, I'll be damned. It really does work, despite their claims that it's not working on non-NEON devices. I'll let screenshots speak.

They added x86 and Tegra2 (+other non-Neon-ARM-CPU) - support a month ago!
Nice Christmas present! The app is technically well coded, the coders Exophase and Lordus are helpful/supportive and they fix bugs fast and implement features nicely/clean and fast.
It also dropped in price and is really worth it!
All those who bought the app can also participate/volunteer in beta-tests.

Yeah, I've noticed that some time after posting. I was actually really thrilled because in te last couple of years, our Tegra 2 gets neglected too often, ranging from the fact that Vine and Instagram videos aren't supported, to some trivial facts like Twitter Image Upload.

Being on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (1st-gen), I know exactly what you're talking about.
Would be interesting if a processor-instruction-set could be changed a.k.a. "flashed", but I guess there isn't a rewritable flash and probably NEON couldn't simply added with a Kernel - Module, could it?

There was once a discussion about this and, as far as I remember, TonyP said that it was somewhat possible, in theory, because some people tried to do that by making Armv6 processors show up and work as armv7 processors, enabling them to use armv7 apps and stuff, basically the same thing we need because NEON isn't supported by our hardware and our only option is to emulate NEON. But, in all seriousness, it's impossible. We can only send requests to the app developers to fix that, as did the guys from the DraStic team do.

So technically NEON-Calls have to be catched on a higher abstraction and then emulated, or executed by other calls, thus technically leading to a lot overhead and inefficiency... But atleast NEON-Only-Apps could be executed then... Would be interesting thought...

Finally A Comparative Tegra 2 Device (DROID Bionic) Quadrant Test (Youtube Video)

Hi friends, I saw this and knew it would be of interest here. This is a Youtube video of Quadrant being run on a DROID Bionic. It ends up scoring a 2284, which is right in line with what the geniuses here are getting out of thier amazing ROMs and kernels (from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for all your work - all of you - there's too many too name). That 2284 is nothing compared to those 3100+ scores being achieved by that data2loop hack (which I haven't tried myself yet). All this without overclocking yet!? Man, these Tegra 2 devices are just animals!!! I am so glad mine is 100% unlocked (I don't believe this feature is listed on the XOOM ;-) ). Here's the video:
EDIT: The system would not let me post a link because I apparantly haven't posted enough posts yet. My apologies. At any rate, the video can currently be found on Androidandme dot com's home page.

Motoblur is the worst skin ever. I played around with my friend's Droid X and it lagged like crazy even though it was not supposed to and with moto's locked boot loader policy, I have to pass this phone up.
I'm afraid I agree with you 100%. However, with a Tegra 2, Motoblur shouldn't lag the device. That said though, Motorola should just not plague thier products with it, period. Keep a little faith though, there's still a chance that the bootloader is unlocked on the Bionic. If it is, I'm definitely picking one up.

Remember Cyanogen and many other roms do a filesystem hack to artificially boost your scores. An unreleased phone scoring 2284 without any hacks that fake the score is pretty awesome.
I find it pretty silly people are willing to run hacks like the data2loop or filesystem hack with no real-world performance increase except in certain instances like running a synthetic benchmark.
Unless you know for a fact that your flavor of rom isn't hacked (version 5.1 of the Vegan tab rom on the gtablet I'm pretty sure is not), then it's pretty pointless to compare your scores to an unmodified device.

Just for the record, I DID NOT and HAVE NOT run the data2loop or filesystem hacks (nor am I running CM). You did read my original post, yes? Also, for the record, my quadrant score comes in at 2400 - 2500 (and it IS completely relevant to compare that score to the Bionic's).

I'm fully aware this would probably be quite difficult to port, and likely quite time consuming.
Having said that, I also want this. It makes so much more sense on a 7 inch tablet then a 5 inch whatever.
This works with a handful of Google Apps, no other apps. I don't see the point.

Running 2 apps at the same time. Seems like a great idea to me. It supports a limited amount of apps, but unlike Galaxy Note 10.1, you could probably hack in other apps to work.

Yes, but the Galaxy Note 2 supports all apps in multi-window mode...
This would be *nice* to have but I don't know how much easier it would be then to just multitasking between 2 apps now and having the apps full screen. I can see some of the benefits like watching a youtube video while chatting on Google Talk. There are some good alternatives such as popup video players and notepads that overlay on top of current app and typically are resizable and movable.
While it makes sense this would be better on a 7" then a 5"... it really would be best on a 10". 7" barely gives me enough breathing room for 1 app. Plus most of the "compatible apps" are simple things like a calculator and notes
Well it seems VERY useful to me.
It's better than popup apps in my opinion - more app options.
Overscreen browser is a great alternative for now
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
No, it's not.
This allows multiple apps to run side by side, Overskreen is just the browser. Also, it's not even compatible with Jelly Bean, so no one who owns a Nexus 7 can use it.

No, as I said, handful of specific Google apps. Read up on it. Will the list grow? Maybe? I'd have to guess it is a sdk used to support the function, is it worth app dev time to do it and possibly maintain multiple versions of their app?
more then google apps
Not just google apps can do this on the samsung note 10.1 .
samsng snote and lecture app
browser
vidoe player
picture gallery
polaris office
Photo shop (special note version)
I think there a few others that are on the samsung web app store. Samsung sbe adding apps to this.
Now for the bubble burst. The reason they work on the galaxy note is the new QUAD Core cpu and 2 GB Very fast ram .. samsung tried to release a less ram/power version of the 10.1 note with a higer res display. they backed the display down and increased the cpu//ram. this is also to support the WACOM S PEN..
I have been reading alot about the device because mine will be here Monday. So the above if from my reading and research. I can update you more mid next week.. I do not see a need for split windows on a 7 inch screen .. get the overscreen browser and try it.. JUST Does not work for productive work...
Hope this help make it more understandable... too bad samsung did not make the n7 . i give up because of the screen issues sent two of them back and will NOT order a 3rd...
Dude. Overskreen DOES NOT work on Jelly Bean. And it is just one app, vs an entire suite of Google Apps.
Also there's no need for window management.
Nexus 7 has a quad-core processor too, just less RAM - which isn't even a problem, it still can handle side by side apps.
And you're telling some weird stuff here. We are talking about Galaxy Note 2, which allows more apps, and works better. AND it works on a 5 inch screen, so it'll be awesome on a seven inch.
So yeah, please don't come back with your 'research' to tell us that you think that this feature is unnecessary.
i hope sincerely as a dev can make a mod for port this feature in future beacause it's very usefull even if work only with google apps it's better ,
anyone know if a moded youtube apps existing for play a video on background because i search since 3 month but not find ?
thx
I don't think there is one, sadly. Android doesn't support true multitasking
While i would love to have or port this it simply isnt possible, it requires a lot of changing to the frameworks and it would be hard to decompile all of samsungs sources and extract it.

The majority of people come here for solid technical advice, and some of this discussion hardly inspires confidence. We also need confidence in Google as we have invested in their product and it is perfectly legitimate to raise concerns about the 4.2 update that they pushed to our devices
If you use Bluetooth, for example to tether, then you will have been thrown by the changes to the interface. It was not obvious how to connect, and is actually quite inconsistent in that clicking the device name disconnects which is different to what's needed to connect.
One of the advantages the Nexus has over the Mini is the 16:10 screen great for widescreen movies. It's no surprise then that loss of USB mount (a feature available when many of us decided to buy the Nexus) has hit us hard. Yes there is a paid App which might allow movie streaming but I use the USB to extend storage for the huge game files we must download and so this is a major loss.

Screen brightness is an isolated issue I suspect not caused directly by Android, as most people don't see it.
Everything runs just as fast as 4.1.
Quick Office has a coding problem, not Android.
Stop.
I have only seen 1 real bug in 4.2 and that's the missing December bug.

I actually love 4.2. A little lag here and there, but I owned a Huawei Ascend with like a 500 mHz processor, a Samsung Sidekick 4G with a 1 gHz processor, and a Kindle fire. Seriously Google isn't perfect (but they are damn close) they released an update you don't like, does that mean you should cry and hit the new thread button? No, it means you should just flash 4.1.2 and save server space. Especially when there are 100 other topics exactly as useless as yours. We don't need more of them.

Has nothing to do with Prism, the heuristics on the backlight seems to allow it to ramp up and down faster than it did before. In fact before the N7 seemed to be very stubborn to change levels, now it's a little too fast perhaps.
No matter what version or ROM I'm using I don't use automatic brightness. I use the lowest setting and adjust when I need to.

Hating it and loving it ? - wow these are strong words for an OS. Just like W8 people just can't work out whether its the cool thing to be for it or against it yet even though there's no need to take sides or feel possessive about it - we're all here just users equally dependant upon the working of Google aren't we?
One sure thing though - bugs will iron out but things like the way Bluetooth works now and the loss of USB mount are major hits for those of use dependant on those features for the last 4 months.
USB mounting was never part of 4.1... why are people suggesting it was? You needed root and stickmount or a custom ROM.
Stickmount will update eventually. Stop blaming Google for breaking something they never supported in the first place.

[Q] xbmc uses only one core

hey guys
i was experimenting with xbmc a bit, tried several versions (no-neon and full-neon's) but all versions are using only one core. and this makes even the music playback completely laggy, not to say unhearable...
so my question: has anyone of you found a version or a trick to make it work the way it's meant to work?
what i also experienced, sometimes all four cores are active, but then their clock speed drops to 475 MHz and it's still completely laggy...
thanks in advance
PS: i do know that there is another thread about xbmc from january, but due to all the trouble i had about reopening an old thread, i opened a new one here
Never heard of it before reading your thread and I have it a shot straight away. Downloaded the source file from xbmc.org/download and installed it. I was expecting some lags, but it played any file I threw at it flawlessly both video and audio. It was on the phone storage though, still learning how to stream it from my home network.
Anyway, is it the same xbmc we're talking about? Is the player or only the remote?
Attached are some screen shot of it

Yep, I'm on JB. However, in xbmc website FAQ, it says O4X running on ICS is compatible with the app, though they also mention that this app isn't official yet, so they tell us to expect some lags and bugs.
Btw, I tried installing the app in my Android HD set top box running on GB 2.3.4, with 1 Ghz ARM 7 processor and 512 MB RAM. Damn, the apps ran as slow as my grandma. The device is really cheap though ($59 or something, China made) I finally end up using the good old MX Player.

Question.

Hello guys
I wonder why some apps are not compatible with my i9000
example real racing 3, you only need 2.3 or higher in facts i9000 has 2.3.6
so why i cant play this game?
there are thousand more i can't play but my android is still higher than its required.
:/
thanks in advance.
Some apps including real racing 3 are marked as not compatible for some phones , not because of the android version , but because the developers consider that those apps won't work well or won't work at all on some phones. Real racing 3 if you get the apk from somewhere else, works fine for most of the time with very rare lags for a second or two on i9000. I've requested on Google Play that I would like EA to add i9000 for that game as a compatible device but still no respond

I totally agree and I hate the fact that the devs refuse to add devices that have proof with video on YouTube that the app works great on a device and they should add it as compatible. But we can't do anything if they ignore that and we have to live with it and get the apk from some other source.

Sometimes its because developers also limit availability based on specs - Firefox browser (a bit of a moot point because it works on almost every device) and PvZ 2 are examples of this - some devices don't have access to these apps because the developers believe that in terms of a general viewpoint, these devices won't be able to run it.
So even though Real Racing 3 does apparently work almost flawlessly on the S, its partly beacuse the game devs think that the S doesn't have the specs to run it.
