Smart Actions/Command Widget on Moto X? - Moto X Q&A

Does anybody know if Motorola plans to put the old Smart Actions app or the Command/Circles widget on the Moto X? I'm not sure why they didn't put these features on the phone. I have downloaded three apps to sort of act as them but its definitely not the same as having the Motorola app and widget. I downloaded Agent and Settings Wizard for the Smart Actions and One More Clock Free for the circles command center widget. If anybody else would like to see these features please post on Motorola's facebook page and tweet to them to get these put on the Moto X. I can't believe they aren't on it to begin with.

I've never had a Motorola phone with Smart Actions, but I have looked at it on display models and found it to be very limited when compared with Tasker. I'm sure this also made it a lot more user friendly though. Maybe they found it wasn't popular enough, or maybe they considered it beyond the "average joe" they were targeting with the X?

Pebble Smart Watch SDK APPS....

Now that the backers are getting there smart watches I was thinking there should be a thread were to get apps and the sdk available to other users.
I would love to see KIK Messenger working and more clock faces to choose from.
+1 for more watch faces.
Would it be possible to create an app that used a bluetooth headset as well to enable voice control w/ Google Now?
I can't read Hebrew the font used is not unicode. Does anybody have any idea how to change it?

It is not possible to read any other alphabet other than the latin for now (I have the same problem with greek). I saw an app today made by a chinese or korean user (not sure) that pushed a translated message to the watch. Of course it used some data trafic to translate it via internet but it is a very good idea. I was wondering if there could be an app that automatically changed the greek characters to latin ones, the way they appear on a computer keyboard and then push the text/e-mail to the watch. Sadly, I have no idea of programming. If anyone knows how to do it, please do!

How's the shipping situation on these looking? Like if I order one today what's the ETA?
The kickstarter backer watches didn't arrive in germany yet.
New orders will likely take some time
Hope it will get to the Netherlands soon....

Mine is finally here. Amazing! I also have the Sony smartwatch. The Pebble is much better and easier to use. Pebble Notifier for Android is amazingly easy to use and all my wanted notification come to the watch now including Whatsapp and Chess Player.
Also loving the music remote function of the watch. Once selected it remains onscreen so changing a track can be done without looking at the watch.
I hope for the SDK more watch faces. I would like one with time, date and the current weather. I do hope that the coming apps for the watch works as the music remote app. I don't prefer a notificationcentre or something like that. The watch should remain simple.

Glance is nice but I prefer the Pebbler app on my android and the 91 Weather watch face. Great weather and info on the watch and seems to stay connected better than glance for me.
They sent me a free Pebble to play with. They have Plenty of Watchfaces at Pebble's Forums, you could check them out. +1 To the idea of having a thread seperate for all the Watchapps and Watchfaces.
Edit:
1- https://notesforpebble.com/ - This is a Notes App. You can Password protect all the notes. However, To save more than one note, you will need to buy it. A Nice App to Check out.
2- Google 'Keep for Pebble'. It needs a rooted Android, and it syncs All your google keep notes to your watch. An option if you don't want to pay for the one above but this one needs active bluetooth connection to view the notes while the first one does not require any bluetooth connection after installing.
And the Third and Final App(A Game Actually)- Koishiban! (Sukoban For Pebble). Check it out here (Still in Beta Stage so you will have to sugn up for testing on google+ which is free- http://forums.getpebble.com/discussion/6973/watch-app-android-beta-koishiban-sokoban-for-pebble-looking-for-beta-testers
Canvas is my favorite app, easy and powerful way to make custom watch faces. Right now my pebble displays the weather conditions & temperature with a dynamic icon as long as an animated row of missed calls, sms, & emails plus the battery percentage of my phone. oh yeah and the date&time
Canvas makes it super easy to do this.

[Q] Dragon Assistant compatible? is X a 2 yr phone?

Does the Nuance Dragon Assistant work with the Moto X? Are we locked into using the Google Now if we want to talk with the X? Google is awesome, but Nuance has been working with speech recognition a long time. And they have programs out for Windows PCs. I know talking to a Jarvis is still a distant future. Competition is important, right?
Does Moto X have the right stuff to be competitive for 2 years? I've heard the stats aren't as impressive as was originally expected. I've also heard that stats alone aren't what makes the phone set apart from the pack. I'm not that interested in option to change up the designs. Talking to the phone is amazing, but if Dragon Assistant isn't on board then I'll reconsider.
AT&T: With a 2 year extension of contract, we're paying $200, plus some tax, upgrade/activation fee, and case. So, let's round up to $300. $300 plus the ongoing price of the month to month service. Am I going to be happy with the Moto X's performance with the needs upcoming apps will have?
I am with AT&T and might move from the Dell Streak 5. I love Dell Streak, but if I use it everyday I'll break that big screen. Which is why I'm not a big fan of the Galaxy s4 or even the HTC One. I can keep the Streak and swap SIM cards with the smaller Moto X as needed.
Love to hear your thoughts.
I can't really speak for 2-year performance, but it's super fast and buttery right now. More so than other, higher-specced phones, which are bogged down by stuff like touchwiz. Motorola did a really nice job with the optimizations. Dragon dictation does work but afaik you can't use it with touchless controls.
Also, it feels really nice in the hand.
Thanks to your post, I just discovered a completely new way to talk to my phone! I just installed Dragon and turned on the "listen in background" mode. Since the microphones are always on, dragon will turn on even when the screen is off!!! This is pretty awesome!
Thanks for the great find!

Alright....I'm getting some mixed messages here. "Can't use it with touchless controls"? That sucks! But wait...."dragon will turn on even when the screen is off!!!" ??
buttery..
Sorry, I didn't realize that Dragon had its own "listen in background" mode. So you can't use it instead of google now for the "ok google now" thing, but you can use dragon's own mode to activate it touchlessly.

Yeah! I'm playing around with it now! I customized the wake-up phrase to be "Yo google" and have the "background wake-up" option ticked. I don't know about other phones, but I presume because the Moto X has always on mics, having Dragon using the mics all the time isn't much of a battery drain. It is true that you can't use it in conjunction with touchless controls, but in all honesty, moto's touchless controls aren't that great. Dragon is much more accurate and you can customize the key phrase!
Also, regarding your previous concerns; I really recommend the moto x. It's really the smoothest phone on the market right now and with google at the head, I can guarantee that updates will keep the Moto running smooth as it is right now. I mentioned that touchless controls were kind of meh (they trigger quite a bit even without saying "ok google now"), but active notifications are really the deal sealer here. I honestly can't live without active notifications anymore; it's just incredibly convenient.
Active notifications are amazing, hopefully Moto will add some improvements to the touchless controls with future updates

Alright..you two are good salespeople. I'll work on scrounging up the $600 or so.
I just finished a contract with AT&T, and I don't think I'm interested in signing another contract. My lifestyle for the next year will provide me with plenty of wifi to supplement the 2G cap pre-paid AT&T allows @$60/month. And the other deal in town is StraightTalk @$45/month also with a 2G cap, even though they say its unlimited.
I hear the Moto X price is going to drop some. I hope that Iphone C(heap) phone sells like hotcakes and the Moto X price rolls back.
Thank you for the follow up on the Dragon bit.:highfive: I even thought about calling Naunce Dragon to ask them.

Does it keep the phone awake? Or is this using the benefits of the NLP?
I'm still guessing that the Dragon always-listening mode takes up a lot of battery as it would on a "normal" phone. tl;dr I don't think it takes advantage of X's X8 always listening chip.
The below quotes are from my communications with the Nuance Mobility Zen Desk (https://nuancemobility.zendesk.com).
Me: Does Dragon Assistant work with Moto X the same way Google Now works with Moto X?
I'm thinking about buying the Moto X. However, I'm unable to find any information about the "touchless" features working with Dragon Assistant.
Moto X runs on Android 4.2.2. The touchless features focus on Google Now and a processor dedicated to an "always listening" microphone.
Moto X specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_x-5601.php
Their response: Hello,
Thank you for contacting us,
I can not really comment on how Google now is integrated with moto X. However, I can tell you about Dragon Mobile Assistant functionality.
Dragon does have "always listening" functionality under which the device can be accessed touch-less. This functionality is called "Driver mode".
More feature of Dragon Mobile Assistant can be checked at: http://www.dragonmobileapps.com/
Regards,
Nuance Mobility Support
Me: Under Driver Mode, the Dragon Assistant will make use of the always on micrphones, then correct? Instead of saying "ok Google" to start up the device's Google Now app I can say a.phrase designated by Dragon Assistant. Is that correct?
The Moto X carries three always-on Wolfson microphones that constantly listen for the words "OK Google Now," to turn on a "Touchless Control" system, waking up the handset for voice commands and searching via Google Now. Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/08/28/motox_teardown_onshoring_handset_costs/
Their response: Yes, Under driver mode, Dragon Assistant will be always using device microphones for continuously listening for customized wake-up command.
Regards,
Nuance Mobility Support
Does it seem like I'm asking a very specific question and getting a very general answer to anyone else? I thought I was very clear.
The Nuance Mobility Team must have politicians working for them.
Take a read of the reviews for the Maxx/Ultra/X! They are stellar. I disabled Google search & this works better. I like using my Jawbone headset button.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.balerion&hl=en
I will say, functionally, I enjoy this far more than moto's touchless controls. But boy does it suck down the battery! Maybe if I was on a stock rom with the stock kernel, somehow some magic would happen and it would use the passive listening that's built in, but at least on AOSP based ROMs, in my experience, this thing will eat juice. i'm 15h on battery, 1.5h screen on, and 20%. 55% of the battery drain is from Dragon.
I think I'll keep it for driving, but maybe not for having on all the time.

Voice Control for Nexus 5

In latest Nexus 5, We could say " OK GOOGLE" to search in google now. Is it possible to take this function to next level by integrating Moto X voice control- Since Nexus 5 hardware has a always listening chip, will it be easy for devs to poet this feature.
Thank You
Moto x does that. You just have to install the new launcher with the new Google search app from the nexus 5. Look over in themes and app threads.

i didnt think it had the same X8 computing system. pretty sure thats the key behind the truely always listening feature of moto x vs screen on always listening aspect of the new google launcher.

It's not the X8, but the Snapdragon 800 in N5 has similar capability built in to the chip itself.
I'm going to say no. The moto x uses a totally different chip to get it done plus the always listening on the moto x is not open source. Any Dev would have a really really hard time getting that to work, if they could at all.

It runs on 4.3 and will be recieving an update in Early 2014(in february,i think)
It has a 1.7 ghz krait 300 quadcore processor (the 4g lte only has a 1.5ghz dualcore) along with 2gb of ram.So performance is supossed to be surprising.the super LCD3 4.7 inches screen has a resolution of

Also new to HTC One
Introducing myself. I'm also new to the HTC One. Previously had an HTC Evo Design 4G. I'm finding a few things which disappoint me.
1. That home screen. I don't want that feed thing on it, but it is apparently part of the OS. The only way I've found to not see it is to designate one of the other screens as my home screen. I can't actually get rid of it.
2. I just discovered that the HTC Hub soundsets aren't on this phone, and I don't find a way to go to the Hub to get them. I went over to the Evo forum here and downloaded them. I'll hook my phone up to the computer and put them in the appropriate folders.
3. Regarding the sounds, it doesn't appear that I can have different notification sounds for different messages. On the Evo, I had one sound for email, another for text messages, a third for calendar notifications, and a fourth for other notifications. I could tell by the sound if it was something I should look at immediately (text messages), something which could wait (emails), or someplace I was supposed to be (calendar notifications). So unless I there's somewhere in each individual app to customize the sounds, I'll have to either look at everything that comes in or ignore them all until I have time to go through them.
If any of you have any input on how to get the phone to do what I want (i.e. go to HTC Hub for stuff or set up individual notification sounds), let me know. I haven't finished exploring my new phone, so it might give me some pleasant surprises sometime soon.

Hello ,
1. There are a couple custom roms that disable blinkfeed, TranquilOne is one of those roms, or use a different launcher like Apex,Nova, ect.
2. I don't use MyHub so I can't comment on that
3. I'm pretty sure notifications can be separated with different sounds...or maybe just on custom roms. You may have to go into setting of each app and set the sound you want

I'll take a look at TranquilOne.
Back on the Evo, I could select a Sound Scheme and a set of sounds would be applied to several different types of notifications. On the ONE, I had to individually apply each sound to each type of notification. Doable, but a PITA after being used to the Sound Schemes on the Evo.

Of course the app is going to get updated to the new name but from the article it's saying the features won't make it. I guess I should be a bit clearer with my words. I'm just relaying the message, I'm not just pulling this stuff out of thin
air.
Perhaps you should read through it as well. By the following it seems more likely the 2013 moto x is NOT getting the new features like the 2014 Moto X.
Without touching your smartphone at all, you can get directions, set an alarm or pretty much anything—just by talking. Moto Voice is always ready. Say “Do I need an umbrella?” and it gives you the weather. Tell it you’re going home, and Moto Voice will get you there. Say "Find your phone" for your phone to make it ring so you can track it down.
On your new Moto X (2nd generation), there’s even more:
To make Moto Voice more personal to you, create your own launch phrase, like “Hello Moto X” and teach it your voice. Say “Play Beethoven on YouTube” to play music videos on YouTube. You can also interact with your favorite apps like Facebook and WhatsApp with your voice.
I found this one very vague reference on Gizmodo's article:
One major disappointment? Motorola's software updates won't be coming to last year's Moto X. Sorry, folks; it's a dead-end device. Which is a real shame, given that it's only a year old.

It was added right after the software section of the article so I'm guessing it's multiple software updates that won't be coming to the gen1 X. So far it looks like the customized wake-up phrase isn't coming. HOPEFULLY a dev here will be able to remedy that. I have faith, but if it's tied into the features of the snapdragon 801 then it might be a tall task.
It looks like Punit Soni says that we will be getting some of the new features of the new Moto X
"The new Moto X, the new Moto G, Moto 360 and Moto Hint.
I hope you like our line-up. The Specs are great and we have all new and improved software features across the board which make these devices work even better.
And better still, all that software will come to all our existing users too (as long as the Hardware allows it)
The team has worked super hard for this. I hope you all enjoy the update."

I sure hope so, but that part about the hardware allowing it, puts a bit of a dark cloud over it. I read down further and he confirms that yes it will be coming to the moto X G1 so that's good news. . At this point, i'll believe it when I "talk" to it.

I think all the new Moto stuff will be coming to our phones, but I think he's referring to the new camera features, like picture caching and 4K recording. I'm guessing the sensor doesn't support it.
U prefer believe in gizmodo than motorola? They said: Everything will come to first generation that don't need new hardware, the hand passing above the phone with new IR sensors will not come, and shotting photos with 2 LED flashs, but the rest will come. Motorola made a launching party and said that the moto X will come first to Brazil today, and talked about that.

photo caching has little to nothing to do with the sensor. it has to do with processing power and RAM allocation. a dedicated camera (even SLR) that can take multiple shots per second will run in to buffering issues once you've reached the max threshold (bottleneck in file writing/caching).
frankly i don't see why the camera apk couldn't come to the old X. the high-level description was that it basically takes three pictures. to do this, the phone has to cache frames of rolling images and save them once you hit the shutter. based on the description, it's buffering 3 frames out of possible 60/s (i don't see it being higher than that). so technically your shot would take all of 3s to snap, save and preview.
i'd like to see more demo/reviews on this tech to find out if my assumptions are correct.

It's not like gizmodo doesn't have a positive reputation. They were questioned about it today and they indicated they were told at the press event that the features wouldn't come to the G1 moto x. It's also not uncommon for Companies to change their stance on certains things as well. The next thing we should wonder (non moto related) is whether or not Sony remote play will come to the Xperia Z2. It's as capable as the Z3. Maybe they'll change their stance on that as well if there is enough demand.

photo caching has little to nothing to do with the sensor. it has to do with processing power and RAM allocation. a dedicated camera (even SLR) that can take multiple shots per second will run in to buffering issues once you've reached the max threshold (bottleneck in file writing/caching).
frankly i don't see why the camera apk couldn't come to the old X. the high-level description was that it basically takes three pictures. to do this, the phone has to cache frames of rolling images and save them once you hit the shutter. based on the description, it's buffering 3 frames out of possible 60/s (i don't see it being higher than that). so technically your shot would take all of 3s to snap, save and preview.
i'd like to see more demo/reviews on this tech to find out if my assumptions are correct.

Ah gotcha. Thought maybe it had something to do with shutter speed.
Quite frankly I'm looking forward to the new X. I know some people are grumbling about the size increase(rightfully so), but that's where the market is going. I see more people holding huge Samsung devices than any other, including iPhones(which I used to see everywhere). In fact, on my team of 13 here at work, only 4 have iPhones. The rest all have Galaxy phones... Excluding me of course, who made the right choice.

I came to Moto X from the HTC One M7. The new camera features in the new moto x sound like a subset of what the HTC One has. While they are nifty, I don't really miss them. The most useful is the highlight clip. However, I can get that from G+ Photos' auto-awesome. The number one feature on the moto x that I find indispensable is Touchless Control, so I sure hope the new Moto Voice will come to gen 1 moto x.
Does anyone have apk?
Got an update today but everything still says touchless control, aside from the play store. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet.
