You shouldn't make a new thread every time you have an issue... ask in the Pure Stock thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579270
p.s use the search button.

Thanks for the help :-/

Actually, he (kinda) did the right thing. Before asking development unrelated questions, better open a thread in the Q&A section. I mean, that's what it is here for
But nontheless, you do have a point, too. The golden rule on xda is "Search before posting".
So @ OP, next time please search before asking, as many Q's already got answered before

Already search before asking

[Q] upgrade galaxy note (n7000) to Jelly Bean?

As per the title, I'm wondering if this is now possible? I've checked via settings => update - but it says no update available.
- Is this update now available?
- If so, does it only apply to phones that are rooted? How do I go about getting the phone rooted?
This should be q&a, report yourself.
There is a leaked version out called ls7 or ls2,both available to download in development section. As they're leaks, you'll need to be rooted, follow drive ketans thread on rooting, easiest way is to install philz kernel via stock recovery.
Don't post questions in general, it's possible they'll just be closed.

Hi there. Apologies - upon reflection, you're quite right. I didn't notice the Q&A subsection when I went to post initially. Just saw 'general' and thought this would fit into general. Mods, please move as necessary.

Guess you talked chinese for him when explaining the rooting and upgrade procedure to jelly bean in post #2
Or he stopped reading after the phrase he quoted ofcourse...
He needs to read a LOT. spoonfeeding the procedure is dangerous if he is not even reading the replies.

Back up the bus people. You originally posted this;
"This should be q&a, report yourself."
Clearly, you came back and edited your post later. I thank you for that - but people, ease up on the assumptions and judgements. I never asked for spoonfeeding from anyone!
Is there a likelihood that this upgrade will be officially supported at some stage?

You are correct, I did only post that originally because usually posts are closed immediately in general, but I edited way before you replied, pretty much straight after, certainly not after 3 days that it took for your response.

Yes available as a leak.
The update is not official till at least December.
That is why you couldn't see a new JB update from Software Update (OTA).

You need not necessarily be rooted to install JB.
You can flash XXLS2, the earliest leak available from Odin 3.04 (The ROM flasher for Sammy phones)
XXLS7 is known to be unsoundly slow. It's probably not optimised yet from Sammy's side.
However the infamous Multi-window feature is available on XXLS7.
If you really want the latest and greatest aka XXLS7 with all the bells and whistles,
you need to be rooted. As for that, do your own research. :victory:

I assume you mean XXLS7 from leak, not XXLS7 cooked by xda devs. Because the last one is actually faster than XXLS2, and battery life better. No match.
@livebyte : Thanks for taking the time out for your comprehensive post. I think I will hold off and wait for the official update. That was what I was referring to when I posted initially. I appreciate that there are alternative roms available - but if the official becomes available sometime this month, then I guess that's the path of least resistance.

You want to root or use custom rom?
If just to have root access, you can try with enoxy abuse 1.4. If you want to flash rom then you need to flash philz kernel and flash your desired rom. You could check up wotj chain fire's guide or Dr.ketam. They are both great contributer

What is the used of custom rom?
some custom rom can tune your phone make it faster than stock. Eg. you can overclock or underclock your processor. Change your screen default dpi to lower resolution, customize your own theme, changing your system cache files to make your phone response faster and etc....
Root access is actually administrator mode for linux and andriod.

Hey , Chill out buddy. Dagger is right, when you sign to xda you are presented the rules which you have to follow. Being a noob does not excuse him from using the search engine or going through the stickies. Forums need to be clean from flooding the same question in multiple threads. Besides, you are reading his question but not answering or guiding him....so, I guess you are not helping either.
Nobody is saying that the question is not fine, but saying that just a little research would have answered that. There is a whole thread in the development forum called How to root/unroot by Dr. Ketan's that is amanzingly thorough...it is as easy as reading that.

Cole hii, the build version determines what kernel you need to flash. As you are on Stock ICS 4.0.4 with DXLR5 build version, the Philz kernel you need to flash is this one: http://www.mediafire.com/?c2jmfqnwajw8ei1
This will give you safe kernel (to avoid brick bug), CWM recovery and Root access.
You have to flash the file this way (this video might help but is in spanish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EPWIvIoEF8):
Download the kernel signed .zip file and put it in your external sdcard
Boot in stock recovery (press home + volume up + power and keep them pressed until you see the splash screen)
In the blue recovery menu, select install update from external storage and install the kernel file
reboot and you are done
Custom roms are all different and have their own instructions on how to flash them. So the best is to read what the dev of that particular rom tell you to do. In all roms you flash you will need to do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) and some other will require to format some partitions, that is why is so important to be on a safe kernel.
Hope it helps. :good:
OK..the post above me is quite good..if u want more detailed one..pm me

6606 Z help

Hello, I picked up my Tmobile Z last week, I've decided to root it and getting ready to install a recovery, not sure what one yet.My question is and sorry if it has already been answered. I am trying to install a 4.2.2. Rom. From what I am understanding i have to flash a stock firmware from a 6603, please correct me if that's wrong? I've looked at a few but not sure what one I should be flashing. If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me some info it would be much helpful . I'm not new to flashing roms etc this is just my first locked down Sony I'm doing it on.

This is better posted in the general section. If you are already on 4.2.2 stock then you don't need to flash the stock Rom. Just install dual recovery ( instructions on the relevant thread) back up current Rom and flash whatever 4.2.2 custom Rom you want.

Yes It kept lte. didn't need to mess with any apns or anything... It Just works like it should.
Word of advice though... In the update, under xperia settings in the settings menu, there is an option to download apns for your carrier.. Don't do it. It wipes T-Mobile's lte apn and you have to remake it... I learned that the hard way...

No problem mate, moderators please change the thread to general.
But I read this forum regularly and in the Z1 section there's no news yet for 4.4.
Device trees are not that different so we'll have to wait for one of the great devs at this forum to get working on it.

[Q] Can't enable pen mode

Hi guys, first post here and that's why I dindn't post on the original development thread.
I have a Sony Xperia Z1 C6946 which it is rooted and with the 4K/120fps mod working. I have followed the instructions on the thread to enable the pen writing but I can't get the mod to work. I did try with the 3 metods and none of them work. The app does nothing (it should give a message saying it is enabled). Someone has a clue?
Good job you didn't post your QUESTION in the original development section as QUESTIONS are posted in the QUESTION AND ANSWER section.
Now, please tell us which rom, which kernel and which download link you have used to install the pen mode, because it works fine for me.
